It's always a special event when Cadenza releases an artist album, given their relative rarity. In fact, not counting copious doublepacks, the Cadenza Contemporary 01 mix CD, and Ricardo Villalobos' counterintuitively titled Achso EP, there has only been one so far: Los Updates' First If You Please. Making things even more special, Mirko Loko's Seventynine is both his debut solo album and his first appearance on Cadenza, all adding up to a triply celebratory moment. Not that Mirko is a newcomer: as part of Lazy Fat People, he lapped up accolades for releases on Border Community, Wagon Repair and Carl Craig's Planet E, among others. And no one can forget last year's Family EP, a collaborative effort by Mirko and Luciano, released on Loco Dice and Martin Buttrich's Desolat. Now, with Seventynine, Mirko takes us even deeper into his musical imagination, introducing listeners to a side of him they may not have heard before. At its heart, the album celebrates the communal ideal of dance music with spirited, percussive tracks offering a clear distillation of what could only be described as the Cadenza sound. But Mirko also diverges from the dance floor, ducking into shadowy corners in search of more private emotions. Rather than scattering energy, that tension between moods helps bind the album into a potent, coherent whole. "Sidonia" opens, immediately announcing that this won't be merely business as usual. With its groaning sub-bass and flickering percussive flashes, the track echoes the dubby, drifting melancholy of classic Warp records-always, in truth, a key influence for Cadenza. Bells and voices lend an atmosphere of shimmering energy that's carried over into "Around the Angel," which sails jubilantly forward, propelled by intricate polyrhythms and uplifting female vocals.
"Love Harmonic" returns its attention to a classic, melodic sound inspired equally by Detroit and Sheffield, as lean drum-machine patterns entwine with loping congas, and lush strings color everything delicate shades of yellow and rose. "On Fire" marks a 180-degree turn, pursuing a scorched-earth policy as blasts of white noise fire off slow, rhythmic bursts. Sirens and electronic squeals only add to the tension, culminating in nearly nine minutes of techno intensity. After that, "Astral Vacuum" offers necessary respite via a short, beatless passage of strings and abstract sound, before Mirko takes us once again into the breach with "Bluebook," a lean, focused groove battered by metallic drums and shot through with voices and bleeps ripped from radio transmissions. (So this, you may think, is how it feels to ride a satellite.) "Shadow" is deep and melancholic, with a booming 808 kick underpinning ragged, gleaming chords and frayed strings; its hard, mineral edge provides the perfect setup for the cottony flux of "Takhtok." The children's chant will doubtless draw comparisons to Ricardo Villalobos' "Enfants," but here childlike innocence turns ambiguous, even sinister, as the repetitions rise over a primal beat; scraps of Bulgarian folk song give the track a weirdly timeless quality, strange and familiar all at once. With "Le Monologue d'Orfeu," Mirko returns to one of his endlessly unspooling, headlong grooves. Spinning like a water wheel, limpid tones wash gently over everything, and a long spoken passage in hushed Portuguese falls over the music like a dream's veil. It's just one of the album's many examples of Mirko's talent for simplicity, for stripping back to reveal the essence of a particular feeling. "Altrove" is another cinematic interlude, two minutes of molten strings and electronic birdcall you wish could go on forever. But there's one more dance to be had: "You Know Where," which rises from a wooden, skippy rhythm into a string-laden celebration of techno at its most melodic. Having twice performed at DEMF, "You Know Where" might well refer to the Motor City; in any case, its deep, sung/grunted bassline serves as the warm, pulsing heart for this massive, man/machine mover. It's a glorious finish to an album that never takes its eyes off the horizon, sending it up, over and beyond. Seventynine is ultimately all about the journey, as it travels between Lausanne, Detroit and outlying points on electronic music's map. Mirko's travelogue bridges the gap between a classic Motor City influence and Cadenza's own nomadic aesthetic, firing up dance floors and fueling the imagination.

Electric Deluxe welcomes Tommy Four Seven to the family. Both Chris Liebing and Speedy J have been playing Surma as a highlight in almost every set for the last 5 months, building alternate versions on the fly. As a result, both spontane- ously made mixes, and Tommy added a kick ass tool. Surma is beautifully dark, yet the main theme is really catchy and always invokes instant crowd response. Noise for the boys and bass for the girls! Rave alarm signals keep whipping up the steady pushing groove with a fat bottom end, Techno, Ambient and House are utilized for one sinister intention, to drive the crowd mad... the Electric Deluxe definition of Deep Techno. Speedy J quote:"I have been following Tommy's releases for a while, most of his tracks have been in my playlists. Surma came together in stages, it has had various incar- nations. When he sent the final version, I was instantly blown away." Dark, raw and sweaty environments are where you're most likely to find Tommy Four Seven, filling the void between house and techno since 2005. Tommy's been steadily building his catalogue of strong, moody and hypnotic dancefloor destroyers such as early hits on Parisian label, Kill Brique and recent recordings for Wolfskuil Records, Speedy J's Electric Deluxe and Chris Liebing's CLR, as well as remixes for the likes of Josh Wink and Darko Esser. His approach to music is unlike a musician. Instead, Tommy prefers to sound design, recording and sculpting elements into deep engaging atmospheres. It's this production ethos Tommy also applies in the club, morphing from tech-house, to the darker realms of
techno. "I always keep the foundations deep and hypnotic, a vibe I feel that creates more of a connection." Electric deluxe aims to release music that has personality and unique character; Surma totally fits the profile and at the same time it's an amazing dance floor record.

Danish producer and DJ Anders Trentemøller is about to release his first mix-CD ever in May 2009! Stirring a buzz with a number of 12“es (mainly on Poker Flat Recordings), remixes (most recently „Wrong“ from the new Depeche Mode album) and most importantly his multiaward- winning debut artist-album „The Last Resort“ (2006) and the compilation „The Trentemøller Chronicles“ (2007) we‘ve been very curious about what to expect from his first mix-album and indeed the CD comes in as a very nice surprise. Entitled „Harbour Boat Trips - Copenhagen by Trentemøller“, the CD will be released on the new label HFN Music, and will feature a very intimate and emotional mix of some of the most beautiful music from four decades, as Trentemøller opens his secret musicbox for us. The idea behind the „Harbour Boat Trips“ series is to present
special mixes by outstanding artists, inspired by the imagery and the connotations of harbours with all its distraction and disaccords, where wanderlust meets homesickness, where the time stands still and runs fast and where past, present and future melt into one special intimate moment. Trentemøller‘s mix melts dreamy neo folk and shoegazer songs with heart-wrenching female vocals such as the wonderful Emiliana Torrini‘s „Livesaver“ or Liz Harris‘ Grouper into the electro-induced Post-Rock of Nic Endo‘s remix of The Raveonettes‘ seductive „Aly, Walk With Me“ or „Ghost Rider“ from Alan Vega‘s unforgettable Suicide into the decadent „Fantômes“ by Khan which was recorded 25 years later! Sparkeled with odds, outtakes and Trentemøller‘s own edits, the mix features lots of tunes from Copenhagen, Denmark, but is not limited to that. You‘ll hear russian announcements, french whispers and simply beautiful music mixed into a very inspiring soundscape which you might want to take you away on your next Harbour Boat Trip. And if you ever wondered what‘s inspiring the musical mastermind of Anders Trentemøller - here you‘ll get an idea.

While the world wonders if the House revival has already come and gone, Highgrade presents an EP from ADF, aka Adriano Filippucci which manages to achieve a homogeneous fusion combining the euphoric feeling of Techno and the vibrant soul of House. The title track, “Perugia” is named after Adriano’s hometown in the heart of Italy. Whether it is the warmth of the sun or the Mediterranean lust for life, Perugia turns out to be a massive track, with its sparking melodies and a real sense of atmosphere and dynamic mischief. Perugia gets the remix treatment from two of the directors at the Highgrade
headquarters. Todd Bodine sends the track firmly in the direction of Detroit and into some new sonic territory. Label boss Tom Clark sets the focus on the tracks technoid energy and simply lets the groove run away on route to its own destination. The EP is completed with three exclusive digital tracks. Sascha Braemer provides a clubby remix of Perugia, and Adriano proves his versatility with two more classy originals. The percussive inferno of “African Shop” and the housey highlight “Long Train Running”, both top shelf tunes from our man ADF. Avanti avanti, amici!!

After two very successful 12inches on Philpot, we are proud to present the first full-length album from Break SL aka Sebastian Lohse from Dresden! "City Wasteland" comes as a full CD as well as a split in two 12inches (release of part 2 in early autumn), including some tracks that are vinyl-exclusives. Break SL is still quite young, but you can feel that he already defined his own universe of sounds and proper production skills. After the smooth introduction with House-rooted strings, piano and sweet fm-synthesis, he explores already deepest territory of Detroit-influenced Techno with "Weird Dancer", followed by the lush playground-atmosphere over beatdown-excursions on "Kids".The track "My Love is for U" introduces us to the voice of Syjana, singing a duet with the maestro himself...pure sweetness! "Break it" pushes musical boundaries even further, breaking up with 4 to the floor: Funked-up Electro and meandering soundscapes, reminding us a lot of B12 and the likes...timeless! Next is "Laguna Seca" from his second 12inch on Philpot with the same name - a track that already made it into various charts when it was released, and a true masterpiece of it´s own. "Dirtbomb" shows some nice edges and has a kinda dark feeling to it. Hovering samples and a raw, dirty feel on the drums gives the whole track a very subtle blues, but the following "Slowmotion" pours oil on troubled water and has that endless floating, euphoric feeling, we sometimes miss on the floors of today...

Patuá, - Chapado
Hailing from the southeast Asian jungle, globalization, diaspora, and the unchecked native baboon explosion have all seriously endangered Patuá, so we are afraid that poor Patuá has very few brothers and sisters left in this world. Lucky for you, as the Vakant freak out bus has transversed the planet so many times now, we have indeed found (gasp) Patuá and present Patuá here for your delight and revelry. All it took to lure Patuá onto the bus was some animal crackers and a 1989 Game Boy. Truly momentous, yes we feel like Noah. Once onboard we immediately put Patuá to work and this double A-side is the result. Apparently house is big everywhere. Smooth and warm, A-side 'Macaista' reaches out to the remaining Patuá of this world and says, I am here, do not fret. If Patuá reaches out with 'Macaista', AA-side 'Chapado' is the reach around. Much like his newfound masters, Patuá is quite cheeky. Thick and spacey 'Chapado' is the Patuá mating call to all the remaining tribe members earthbound and beyond

The 2nd record from Hidden Recordings comes on the heels of resounding success from the first record which saw stores in Berlin re-ordering more! This record again features four tracks, two produced by label owners Deepak Sharma + Dieter Krause showcasing their first track using a female vocalist. "Spheres" is a sexy deep minimal groover which has received support from the likes of Remute, Greg Shiff and Pablo Bolivar. "Cubik" is a fuinkier groover, using a variety of synth stabs to keep the tracks energy high. On the flip side, are two remixes that Deepak Sharma + Dieter Krause completed for artists on their label. They too have been receiving a lot of support including the remix of Karri O's "Ajaton" reaching the #1 download on Kompakt-MP3. The track has a nice contrast of deep pounding drums and a soft melody that tells a story perfect for late in the night, or during the day on terraces. The remix of Monkey Brothers "Manuela" has seem support from the likes of Alexi Delano and Maetrik, and is deep rumbler with strong definitive percussion to give a late-night vibe.

A killer clubby groove from Steve Marshall -- the kind that reminds us of the best indie singles from the late 70s disco years! Steve plays alto sax here over a strutting, high-stepping rhythm that's got plenty of warm touches -- really glowing with a sense of soul that's great, and touched by some female chorus vocals that are very much in a Philly mode! The disco mix is great -- even more upbeat and extended than the 45 groove. "In The Country" is a great bit of club jazz -- smooth and sweet, but still with a snakey flute line in the middle -- almost like some lost Bobbi Humphrey track from her Epic years. "Do What You Will" is another chorus vocal number -- and "You Are The World" features some laidback mellow flute.

Adam Marshall, - Vespers
The latest offering from New Kanada:"Vespers" catches the lost transmissions of an ancient groove. Snippets of the radio band crackle through the ether, and arpped basslines grind into the void. Pop songs of the past drift through, but reduced into an aggressive mix of subtle techno and house. "Deep Knight Track" mines the old stabs of the DX-7, the poly of the Juno 106, and the mute glory of the MPC swing. Backbone mixing track for after 6am journeys into tropical America.
