'Aus Music...All Night Long' as a title is not just a play on the timeless House Music All Night Long phrase, it also expresses the musical diversity of the label. From the live dub of Sideshow through to the layered, undulating techno of Sian via the heartwarming, richly textured grooves of Lee Jones our aim has always been that you can play Aus music from dusk till dawn… all night long. So with this in mind we introduce a double album that aims to fondly remember the first 20 releases via A&R and co-founder (alongside Sideshow) Will Saul's DJ mix of the back catalogue (CD2) whilst looking forward to the next twenty with 13 totally new and exclusive tracks from the core roster, friends of the label and artists who we'll be working with in the future (CD 1). CD 1 opens with the Sideshow's reworking of his collaboration with Cortney Tidwell before Roland Appel eases us into the realms of disco, his guitar licks and piano refrains carrying the torch of live instrumentation forward, before Sian, Shur-I-Kan
and Brooks turn up the electronic dial whilst maintaining the disco groove. The mysterious Pearson Sound (a core member of the burgeoning dubstep meets techno scene, who for the time being wanted to remain anonymous) changes up the rhythm and brings his stripped back yet inherently soulful sound before Appleblim & Ramadanman present their first foray into the world of house. Full of space and power you can appreciate the production ethos that has brought them to the forefront of underground electronic music and it feels to us like a genuinely fresh take on house music. Martyn needs no introduction and his p-funk inspired melody and bassline provide another entirely fresh take on the deliciously broken rhythms we have come to love from him. We thought it only fitting that we should try and get a different take on Lee Jones's 'Aria' for the project, as it has been the most in demand single from the first 20 releases on Aus. Lawrence's reworking is typically sleek and graceful, and leads into the houseier section of the album. MyMy deliver one of their trademark melodic bomb's and Lee Jones gets uncharacteristically pumping (with all the character and fun we've come to love from him) whilst Will Saul & Tam Cooper bring the soul and melancholy like only they can before Martyn signs off with a potent piece to pull at your heartstrings.

When Cadenza invited Gavin Herlihy to come on board, he showed up on the label's Swiss doorstep with suitcases absolutely bursting at the seams—spilling over with rubbery bass lines, silvery percussion, and strange samples with a faded, postcard patina. (Also, two of the most evocative titles in recent memory.) Wherever the Irish-born, Berlin-based producer has been on his travels, it was clearly one hell of a journey. From the sound of "Underneath the Wind Machine," he must have made at least one stop on the Italian Riviera: the song's climax features a slow swell of mandolins that evoke the hot breeze ruffling dog-eared pages at a seaside café. But this isn't musical tourism. Herlihy takes his sweet time building things up, with dry electronic percussion shuddering in place beneath subtle synthesizer gusts; it's more than three minutes before the sound of a lone, plucked arpeggio can first be faintly heard, and then another, rising with a hummingbird's motion. The remainder of the track all but sweeps you off your feet, between the fantastical melody and a driving, housey groove. "Train Dodging," true to its title, is all about hijinks on a hairpin curve. Whereas Herlihy's productions can often be deeply melodic, this one pours all of its energy into a bounding, propulsive groove. Hi-hats, woodblocks, bells and bass trade syncopations, tumbling over one another in a breathless game of percussive leapfrog; fat, battered 909 snares push it all forward with martial riffing. The suggestion of a melody flashes by in scraps of sampled horns and voices, like blurred forms glimpsed from the passenger window as the train goes hurtling down the rails. It's a white-knuckled ride with a wide-eyed grin.

I, the ninth letter in the Latin alphabet, is statistically the third most used sign in the German language. Even more interesting is the echo of the I in the English language, as there is no other linguistic possibility to define the first person singular that simple and concisely. Therefore, I means also me, the sound-wise definition of the subversive aesthetics of Cocoon Recordings, of inspired electronic dance music of modern spirit and of the dignified follw-up of one of the most successful series of compilations within the context of House and Techno, whereas this edition's focus on House is significantly. That's why I begins with a personal debut: the Berlin-based producer and outstanding DJ Tobi Neumann, an important part of the Cocoon family already for years, has recently been more active in the background, as producer and remixer for 2Raumwohnung or Chicks on Speed, for instance. With the first release under the name eMT, Tobi and his partner Matthew Styles are enchanting the dancefloor with a warm and organic sound, peeling the summer out of its garment and "Extra Lunch" seems like a reflection on a clear water surface, thanks to small vocal snippets and permanent strings. A great start, especially because the Dutchman Laurens Lanting aka Lauhaus stays exactly on this track with his percussive and Detroit-dubby-style "Back To Ipanema". And being already in Holland: Jeroen Verheij aka Secret Cinema is already a constant on Music Man Records since the beginning of the Nineties and may be also known to some under the name Meng Syndicate. His contribution "Kurzweil" may be the most ingenious track that has been made in the field of highly harmonic House with piano and strings over the last few years. Hands-in-the-air guarantee included! After this emotional furioso, Detroit's M_nus ambassador Gaiser takes the path of deepness in reduction with his hypnotic Triphouse in "Am I". And this is not the only surprise on I: Matthew Edwards' aka Radio Slave's highly anticipated first track for Cocoon is a glorious Wild Pitch revival with constant layers of sound, a pumping bass kick and an organ, that would even make DJ Pierre proud of. And after his tribal endorphine hymn "Subtellite" from last year, Timo Maas lets you totally lose yourself for eleven minutes in his spacy alarm siren disco funk. Of course, also the tracks by Chymera, Johnny D, Green & Todd or Kabuto & Koji would require a few words. Have you ever been more surprised by a totally un-kitschy saxophone, such as in "Night", the techno-jazz piece made by Canadian Guillaume & The Coutu Dumont? And shouldn't have the xylophone much more often the last word, just like in the melancholy "Dead Room" finale by Hamburg-based Kollektiv Turmstraße? The answers (not only) to this questions can be found in more than 104 (!!!) minutes of amazement, dancing and getting lost within yourself.

Heinrichs & Hirtenfellner, just released two successfull EPs and a digital release so far on Highgrade, but are constantly developing themselves to important core artists in no time. So it‘s about time to ignite the next part of the roket - with „Dark Orbit“ this Berlin based producer-team presents their debut-album on Highgrade. Is there existing life in outer space? This question can easily be answered with yes for the sound-universe of Heinrichs & Hirtenfellner. Their „Dark Orbit“ has a lot to offer: From the engrossed glitter of a „Supernova“ to funky vocalcuts drifting through the „Starry Fog“. Meanwhile „Hubble“ is
testing out what happen‘s if you circulate off the beaten track. However „Quantum Jump“ proves itself to be a springboard to a parallel universe made out of pulsating bass and voice sequences, echoing to us from the depth of space. A „Black Hole“ at Heinrichs & Hortenfellner‘s works somehow backwards - instead of eating energy it spills it all over us - causing an impact of this track being as powerfull as a meteor storm. „Alpha Particle“ sounds like a lunar probe on speed while „My Gravitation“ shows perfectly how to build massive clubhits from apparantly dreamy sequences. At Heinrichs & Hirtenfellner‘s the groove never get‘s lost, that‘s one of the reasons that makes „Dark Orbit“ a fresh clubalbum, which always shows a subtle grasp for humour, weird sounds and small oddities. It‘s this relation
between perfection and human touch, that gives Heinrichs & Hirtenfellner‘s tracks a lot of suspense - not least on the dancefloor. Christopher Spero a.k.a Glimpse has really made a name for himself the way that Producers and DJ's in this day and age should: By making tasteful music of the highest caliber; and putting substance over style. These two tracks co-produced with frequent collaborator and head of the Hypercolour label, Alex Jones, put that said taste on display in a refined and elegant form of House music.'True Friends' pumps right from the beginning with a chunky rolling kick drum only made denser by the thick brushing percussion that surrounds it. Before the beats become to overwhelming a soothing male vocals drifts in reminding how hard it is these days to find a true friend. A stark tune of epic proportions. Returning with a similar pressure from drum programming aesthetic, which basically means hefty percussion layered over warm and tumbling drums. 'Cambria' sets itself apart from the A-Side with a more open-air vibe. Light piano notes float along side softly played wind instruments, creating a surreal dreamlike audio experience that still has the tools to do damage on the dance floor. Glimpse and Alex Jones have really put some true style, grace and class into their music. Masters at creating a distinctive sound that exist in the space where warm and lush tones meet musicality and stimulation. A Summer record with good vibes scrawled all over it.

Peter Kruder is one of those emblematic names that lead a whole decade and inspire myriads of DJs, producers and clubbers all over the world. While he enjoys unprecedented success with Kruder & Dorfmeister and crossed into the platinum range (selling 1 million copies of the K&D Sessions album), he never lost track of the underground. Probably his stellar career would never have happened exactly this way if there wasn't the other Kruder: the adventurous DJ, the deep producer, the challenging A&R at G-Stone, the producer behind DJ Hell's highly acclaimed "Teufelswerk" album. In 15 years Peter Kruder has done only 3 singles under his own name though. When you get your ears around "Chordal" and "Law Of Return" it becomes totally clear why this rare outing happens on Macro. Kruder meets his Macro debut full on modernism - showcasing his deep, dark, dancefloor grounded side. With a crisp harmonic sequence reminiscent of Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker Suite, "Chordal" hijacks brains on the dancefloor with its vacuum depth and sizzling details. "Law Of Return" on the other side is a Kruder signature take on deepness - solemn chords wrapped around a hypnotic groove give you tears of joy. A masterpiece!

There is a date this year in autumn you should keep in mind: the release of Marcel Knopf's first album on Mo's Ferry. Being a DJ Marcel Knopf is used to fathom genre boundaries and now and then he dives into Dubstep, Electronica and realms of Pop. With the single "dusty dance" you get a foretaste of the upcoming congenial longplayer. In its own way, his single enables an acoustic addiction of a thrilling style mix. These two tracks move in between smart Techno and grooving illustrious House and points out, that Knopf doesn't want to be bound to one musical direction. The title track and A-side of the single "dusty dance" is one of the floor fillers of his album. Get ready for an enthralling groove, a monster break and a hook, where any bias against trumpets in the club is blown away. On the B-side you’ll find the oldschool frickling House track "rec-chord", which reflects Knopf's addiction for the beloved vinyl format. Go out and get yourself a physical copy, to hear this nice and comfortable sizzling noise. It’s the best way to get a charming club feeling. And always remember: who buys first, may listen longer!
