Environ is proud to announce the reissue of Morgan Geist's cult classic Super. Originally released in summer 2001, the record is an ode to New York City and many of the producer's most vital influences. With live strings from the Kelley Polar Quartet and plenty of disco DNA, it's no mystery that this was made by half of Metro Area (and released just months before their underground classic "Miura"). Remastered and cut by the award-winning Matt Colton of Alchemy Mastering.

Morgan Geist - Feeling Is Mutual
Duper, the new release from Morgan Geist, is a not-so-subtle callback to his 2001 EP, Super. The playful synth riffs and sweeping disco strings of "Twilight Express" echo the palette of Geist's cult classic "24K" and early Metro Area. "Black Test Car" is a unique collision of minimal, almost Krautrock-style drums, sound library textures and spacy electro percussion. Meanwhile, "Feeling Is Mutual" is a rare acid outing that pushes beyond the usual comfort zone.

Duper, the new release from Morgan Geist, is a not-so-subtle callback to his 2001 EP, Super. "I was working most days with Kelley Polar on our new vocal project, Au Suisse, which isn't really dance music at all," he explains. "I started fooling around with these instrumental tracks at night for fun. Each track was in a different style, but they seemed to work nicely as a group. By the time I asked Kelley to contribute strings to the A-side, the record really started feeling like the sequel to Super."
Super Duper - get it?

REPRESS!!!!!!DETROIT is the first single from Double Night Time, the upcoming album from Morgan Geist and his first solo artist album in over a decade. It features two epic, gorgeous remixes from Grammy-nominated remixer Carl Craig and features vocals from Jeremy Greenspan of Junior Boys. After turning the dance music world on its head with his Metro Area project (alongside collaborator Darshan Jesrani) and mining rare disco gems with the seminal obscure disco DJ mix Unclassics (2004), Geist decided it was time to turn his attention to a solo album. “Detroit” is the lead song from the album and (as careful listeners may discern) is based loosely on “24K,” Geist’s cult classic track from 2001 (taken from the SUPER EP and recently covered by The Whitest Boy
Alive for their performances, a 7” release and almost 400,000 downloads from their mySpace page). The new, wistful lyrics (further emphasized by Greenspan’s evocative delivery) and melancholy feel (an ode, certainly, to the electronic music of Detroit itself) create a potent combination when contrasted against Geist’s meticulous production and trademark grooves. A native of the city for which the track is named, Carl Craig is a world-renowned remixer and was definitely the man for the job of tackling “Detroit.” Geist is a long-time Craig fan, and he knew the remixer was already adept at working with Greenspan’s vocals (it was Craig’s remix of Junior Boys “Like A Child” that received the Grammy nomination for Best Remix). After many revisions, Craig finally created two remixes that combined elements of all of his previous efforts. The “c2RMX1” remix is a full-on stormer in the classic C2 instrumental style (and featuring occasional MC’ing from the man himself!). The “c2RMX2” remix is just as devastating for the floor, but packs the emotional punch of retaining Greenspan’s vocals and Geist’s original chord progressions and melodies. More

Morgan Geist, - Skyblue Pink
BACK IN! The cold, hard facts: Morgan Geist's last solo 12" was four years ago, and his last (and only) solo album was nine years ago. So it is a bit of an understatement to say that a new solo undertaking from the Environ bossman is overdue. Well, better late than never: we present to you the new 12" from the Mr. Geist, MOST OF ALL, featuring Jeremy Greenspan from Junior Boys. The song "Most of All" is the result of Geist's increasing obsession with songwriting and arrangement being coupled with the diametrically opposed fixation on epic, purely-electronic albums and library records. With Metro Area heading back towards organic sounds (an album is in the works) Geist decided on a purely electronic direction for "Most of All," spurred on in large part by the collaboration with Junior Boys main man Jeremy Greenspan, a like-minded lover of great electronic bands (favorites including YMO, Japan, and Talk Talk) and...well, yes, disco. With Greenspan's unique voice floating over Geist's highly-detailed production, the result is part romantic standard, part lost new wave memories, part space-disco and part something unknown and unfamiliar. The B1 instrumental version on the flip streamlines the arrangement into something fit for the floor, yet retains the essence of the song within. Finally, the second B-side track "Skyblue Pink" is Geist's homage to memories of summer days in the 70s spent listening to synth-rock in his older brother's room, fused with the spirit of Klaus Schultz's epic electronic film works and raging power chords. Sound terrible? We assure you it is, but in the best way possible - dare we say in the vein of an Unclassic: so very wrong, its right! With all things Balearic and cosmic currently the rage among discerning diggers, now seemed like the right time to drop Skyblue Pink. Enjoy!

It's been a long time since a new Morgan Geist solo release on Environ, and we've got one in store for you next month. To hold you over, Environ presents RAREMIX, a collection of rare and unreleased Morgan Geist remixes! First up is Daniel Wang "24 to Vector Z (Morgan Geist's Commuter Mix)." The Commuter Mix is off Daniel Wang's debut Environ 12", The Mechanical Birds EP, released via a UK P&D back in 1998. A sought-after and rare Environ record, the remix takes the spacy original and reigns it into a tight, Moroder-esque robodisco workout sure to rock your floor. Next is Owusu & Hannibal "Delirium (Morgan Geist Unreleased Dub)." Geist is a major fan (and friend) of Owusu & Hannibal, whose album comes out on Ubiquity later in 2006. The duo invited him to remix their debut track "Delirium" for a Ubiquity 12" late in 2005, and Geist agreed, provided he could keep an unreleased dub to release on Environ. Here it is, lavishly adorned in tight 808 sequences and moody Detroit chords... A flip to the B-side brings us to Reflection "Cube Loop (Morgan Geist's Modest Science Mix)" - a bouncy treat from 1997, originally released on the highly-collectable and long defunct Clear Recordings label. Reflection are a pair of Japanese brothers who were far ahead of their time, hand-chopping beats and phrases with ReCycle-like precision and reassembling them with refreshingly little regard for traditional song structure and melody. "Cube Loop" was one of the more straightforward tunes from their debut and here Mr. Geist remixes it with a subtle classic house touch. Finally, the record closes with CiM "Typical (Morgan Geist Remix)." Taking a cue from the darker Carl Craig remixes he admired at the time and racking it onto a jacking 909/808 framework, Geist left little reminder of the nearly ambient original track. The remix was released in limited quantity on the Headspace UK label in early 1998 and was quite difficult to find until now.

The Galleria is a project from Morgan Geist (Storm Queen, Metro Area) that ripples with echoes of the indigenous music of long-dead suburban New Jersey shopping malls and NYC radio stations: bombastic freestyle, club dubs, razor-edits and bubblegum-pop R&B. The newest single, Stop & Go, is the second release since the 2015 debut, Calling Card/Mezzanine. Vocals are once again provided by Jessy Lanza, whose two solo albums on Hyperdub were met with critical acclaim and were both shortlisted for the Polaris Prize. Stop & Go features a drum-a-pella for creative mixing, plus an extended, dancefloor-friendly dub.

REPRESS!!! Morgan Geist's project STORM QUEEN marks a return to his roots with an analog approach towards modern house music with a disco pedigree. “Let's Make Mistakes” once again features the vocal talents of Damon C. Storm Queen's debut of 2010, “Look Right Through,” became an underground hit and was reissued as a remix package by Defected Records. 2011's “It Goes On” nearly outstripped Storm Queen's debut in popularity and was featured in countless radio and club DJ sets and charts. “Let's Make Mistakes” extends the Storm Queen continuum at 117 BPM, slowing down and emptying out to form a sinewy, building sound sculpture with a pop song nestled at its core. STORM QUEEN physical releases will be limited-edition 12”s only. STORM

San Serac has been bringing his blood house and wrong boogie funk to the clubs for a minute now. In the last few years he has toured extensively with Junior Boys, Wilderness and Shout Out Out Out Out, and his kinetic live show has disrupted every kind of venue including noted parties like Horse Meat Disco, Wierd and P.S.1 Warm Up in NYC. His self-released Professional album garnered many kind words from the underground, and his acclaimed Stereo Image project (with ex-Junior Boy Johnny Dark) made The Wire's top albums of 2008. After meeting Morgan Geist on tour the two got to talking, and the rest, as they say, is history. "Music Never Ends" is San Serac's first record for Environ, and it will burn a club hole in your soul with its catchy lyrics and no wave hip house style. Also on the A side is "Night Work," a manic depressive boogie track relaxing somewhere between the 80s funk of Aurra and the soul insanity of Station To Station. The B side is a remix of "Music Never Ends" by Morgan Geist himself, a stripped down classic techno jammer guaranteed to rock the crowd. San Serac is currently planning live dates for the fall, recording the follow up to Professional and wrapping up an album written and recorded with French house star Para One. He lives in Massachusetts.

More

"Entropy Reigns" is the first single from Kelley Polar's highly-acclaimed new album I Need You to Hold On While the Sky Is Falling. Already a cult hit, the song is getting more and more radio play and charting each week. It was downloaded nearly 100,000 times in its week as iTunes' Discovery Download, and Pitchfork (in its glowing review of I Need You... on March 4, 2008) said "...the sumptuous, string-drenched boy-girl duet of 'Entropy Reigns (In the Celestial City)' is one of the best of the year so far."We knew "Entropy Reigns" needed an incredible remix, so it was a simple decision to enlist Ewan Pearson and Al Usher (who also operate under the name Partial Arts) to work their magic. Pearson is a dance music veteran, and remixes for the likes of Depeche Mode, Chemical Brothers, Seelenluft, Franz Ferdinand and Freeform 5 have made him one of the genre's most respected producers. He has programmed for Goldfrapp and Gwen Stefani and his production credits include albums for Tracey Thorn and The Rapture, as well as Ladytron, Chikinki and Jeb Loy Nichols, amongst others. Partial Arts is a highly-respected name in dance music with several fantastic EPs on Kompact, Out of the Loop and Battle, as well as remixes for labels including Rekids and Ministry of Sound. Not only did these two have a keen understanding of pop music, sweaty dancefloors and strings, but they were big fans of Kelley Polar - so they turned in two remixes instead of one! For the more house- and tech-driven floors, check the four-on-the-floor beauty of the "Pearson and Usher's Closed System Dub" (spread deep and loud across the A-side). For more electro- and pop-fuelled DJ sets, "Pearson and Usher's Second Law Dynamix" does the trick, complete with an insane acid breakdown. For the vinyl purists, we even threw the original album version on wax for you as well!

Another two years have passed since Metro Area last shook up the scene with a 12", and it is with great pleasure that Environ presents the latest outing from Morgan Geist & Darshan Jesrani: METRO AREA 7! This release finds Metro Area continuing on their quest for fresh sounds and timeless production, expanding the compositional palette while retaining the emotional spirit of their early influences. Metro Area have pushed themselves to once again make heartfelt, personal music that stands out from what the rest of the dance music pack is doing and the duo feel this EP is their strongest work since the release of their 2002 self-titled album. "Read My Mind" is the first full-on vocal track to actually be released by Metro Area (they had amassed a small catalog of unreleased vocal tracks since starting the project). Featuring the incredible pipes of Philip Owusu (of Ubiquity Records' Owusu & Hannibal), "Read My Mind" is a dynamic boogie romp full of contrast: sweet yet meloncholy, warm yet raw. It hearkens back to the days where songwriting and arrangement still had a place in dance music and we hope you'll love it. And for the beat purists, there's an irresistible "RMM Special Dub" version - perfect for doubles! Flipping to the B-side yields "Erodyne" - an incredible space-disco epic that rocks time and space, looking forward with angular arpeggiated riffs and futurist moods while anchored by an undeniably D.I.S.C.O. groove. Check out METRO AREA 7 and be transported - hot music, built to last!

Check out the new record from new Environ act BABY OLIVER! More hot and twisted tracks for disco jackers and neurotic nu-romantics...you don't want to miss it. Baby Oliver's debut "PRIMETIME/HYPOCHONDRIAC" was an underground smash hit, gaining noteriety in sets by the finest DJs from disco (Metro Area, Prins Thomas) to house/techno (praise from Carl Craig) and indie floors (Junior Boys, Optimo). And it's no wonder - like the best club music, Baby Oliver's jams slice across genre divides and sound like nothing else coming out! Like any music that makes one feel uncomfortable with its unfamiliarity, it was universally despised by teen clones on venues like iTunes while trendmaking DJs licensed it for their mix CDs (LCD Soundsystem's James Murphy among them). Baby Oliver's new jams expand on the territory he pioneered on his debut. "Feelings 2" sounds like an out-take from Prince on the day he forgot to take his meds, with the result cut and sliced by Ron Hardy and served up by the Hot Mix 5 on WMBX. Always unpredictable, Baby Oliver flips the usual male lyrical cliche and tells his lover, "You just give me sex when I need a love fix - and you know that's not the same." The B-side is a slow-building, dark epic called "Shot Caller" that juxtaposes the sounds of gunshots with the famous Linn Drum rim shot sound in a wry sonic pun. Sprinked with vocal garnishes rendered from memories of Depeche Mode and Art of Noise, "Shot Caller" is sure to drive your dancefloors wild...

"Chrysanthemum EP" is the first new recording from Kelley Polar since his hugely successful debut album released in 2005, "Love Songs of The Hanging Gardens." This EP continues his unique take on pop music and includes an extended and radical B-side rework (exclusive to this EP) for DJs and dancefloors. This EP precedes a brand-new album from Mr. Polar scheduled for Fall 2007. The seeds of "Chrysanthemum" are described by Mr. Polar himself as a confluence of the apocalyptic fear that permeated all Cold War childhoods, comic-book illustrations of blood and violence abstracted into flora and a B-grade science fiction novel's portraying two teens in the final throes of lovemaking as the world is destroyed in nuclear apocalypse. Yet despite this decidedly dark and unique approach, the song is nevertheless pure pop: catchy and indelible once heard. "Rosenband" is lighter in subject matter yet just as deep musically, filled with synthetic layers and rhythms that reveal themselves slowly on subsequent listens. Despite the immediacy of the melodies, there is a detail that permeates all of Kelley Polar's work and rewards the attentive listener. A completely reworked instrumental version of "Rosenband" is stretched across the B-side and is - dare we say it - a dancefloor killer, with a long, mix-friendly intro building to an incredible crescendo. The track is arranged and mixed by Morgan Geist and was done so with DJs in mind!

If there is one person, who has been causing a stir on the international club circuit recently, it is Barcelona's John Talabot. Already his debut “My Old School“ (which is meant literally by the way) on Permanent Vacation in 2009 and shortly after that the single “ Sunshine”, which he put out on his own Hivern Disc imprint, made him one of the most promising musicians of the Spanish electronic scene. And those two releases also already set the mark for John Talabot’s unparalleled music: raw, loopy, heavy on the kick drum, sample based, moderate on the tempo, distorted on the drums and light years away from the clean and ever revolving house sound of today. This unique style which also blends influences from afro beat, Detroit techno, Chicago house and cosmic disco, but also northern soul or the energy of Flamenco, immediately turned some heads around. James Murphy, Âme and Aeroplane started including Talabot music in their sets like it was the most natural thing. However - and this is quite rare - he not only gained legions of fans in the house and disco community, but also amongst the leftfield pop and indie rock followers. NME and Resident Advisor both had “Breakthrough“ features on John Talabot and he can be proud of a “Best New Music“ dubbing on
Pitchfork. (Being rather elusive on showing his face in magazines or the web it also came to some funny rumors that John Talabot was the alter ego of a well-known techno producer from Detroit).
At the same time he drew the attention of like-minded artists like James Holden and Luke Abott from Border Community, Blondes or Delorean, which lead to a bunch of fertile collaborations: Luke Abbott and Blondes remixed Talabot’s “Sunshine“ single , John Talabot remixed a track by Delorean and vice versa Delorean’s Ekhi contributed vocals to the track “Journeys “ on John’s album). Another example is the Young Turks Label (home of Jamie XX, Holy Fuck, El Guincho or SBTRKT ) on which he released the “Families“ EP in 2010. It was praised beyond limits. Pitchfork for
instance hailed: “… where pop and house influences sweetly buffer up against one another to provide an unyielding sense of elation“ and even brought Talabot a comparison with artists like Four Tet or Caribou.
While staying true to his sound, John Talabot has nevertheless shown a constant evolution as a producer since his first release. He has traced a solid musical path that has turned him into one of the big references of European House and has made him also a highly in demand Remixer (for the likes of The XX, Francesco Tristano’s “Aufgang” project, Shit Robot on DFA, Thaiti 80, Joakim or Teengirl Fantasy to name just a few ).
A progression that now crystallizes in “ƒin”, his first full-length album for Permanent Vacation. A record, in which the Barcelona mastermind sets aside the danceable immediacy to expand his stylistic palette more than ever. For that purpose, Talabot melts all the elements that have constructed his distinctive sound until now and makes them emerge from a new perspective, in which the construction of complex song structures, intricate rhythms and superpositions of ever-evolving melodies and atmospheres pick up the baton of the “a kick-drum and a sampler” philosophy of his initial productions. The result brings us 11 tracks (we should call them songs really!) dominated by dark ambiances, gaseous textures and bittersweet moods that, above all, reveal a kind of vivacity that’s really hard to find in contemporary electronics. “Fin” is far from being a track collection. From the majestic opener “Depak Ine“ to it’s solemn ending with
“So Will Be Now“ , one of the two tracks that features Talabot’s soul and label mate Pional, each song traces an overall dialogue with the rest, culminating a highly emotional journey through Talabot’s always compelling and unique musical vision. More

SHORT INFO:
Braulio Lam's Close-Up is a captivating soundscape that blurs the lines between music and photography. Hailing from the border region between San Diego and Tijuana, Lam's inspiration stems from the vibrant cultural exchange and diverse musical traditions of the area. His creativity as a music producer and photographer converges seamlessly into this album, where he manipulates images and sounds, using light as a catalyst for his sonic experiments.
The album's eight tracks showcase Lam's eclectic sonic palette, ranging from electronica and dub techno to ambient and trip hop. The opening track, "Prologue," sets the stage with a haunting guitar echo and a spacious, downtempo beat. Angelic vocals float ethereal over the sonic backdrop, creating a sense of scenic grandeur. "Cinestill" immerses listeners in a sub-aquatic realm with its slow-pulsing beat and cavernous ambiance. "Buena Vista Social Dub" captivates with its sensual vocals, echoing drums, and hypnotic melody. "Monika" evokes a sense of beachy tranquility with its electric guitar and ambient soundscapes, while "Mirror" transports listeners into an atmospheric swirl of broken beats and ambient textures. "Eastman" delves into the depths of dub techno, its hypnotic chords and airy soundscapes creating an otherworldly atmosphere. "Winter Light," showcases Lam's mastery of minimalism. Field recordings of natural sounds, sparse guitar plucks, and evocative imagery paint a stark but beautiful soundscape that lingers long after the
music has faded. "Tiffen" closes the album on a serene note, its gentle island rhythms and floaty textures inviting listeners to relax and unwind.
Overall, Close-Up is a testament to Braulio Lam's boundless creativity and artistry. Its unique fusion of musical styles, experimental sonic textures, and evocative imagery makes it an immersive and captivating listening experience that transports listeners to a realm where the senses intertwine. Nathan Melja - B2 - Bblluurrryy
12" EP, 180G
Welcome to the " Triangle d'Or " by Nathan Melja. The first opus of a series to come out on his label Parodia, this record is an ode to those Parisian nights where the prestige and extravagance are prior.
Showing a strong willing to integrate elements from the mainstream world in his creative process, the EP opens with the contemplative and emotive 'Stargazing'. You're walking down Champs Elysées, looking at the sky. In a fraction of a second, everything starts to move in slow motion. You're passing out, your eyes stuck on moving stars. It was all a dream, they say.
As you wake up, you're sitting next to a glossy club. 'UnDcided' is blasting out of that neon door. You get lost in its colorful and trippy intro before your head starts to feel the vibrations of its wobbly baseline.
You need a cocktail to get your night started. You enter the restaurant next door. 'Welcome!' is playing in the background. That's Patrick Holland on the guitars you just tried to Shazam! Like the missing piece is not missing anymore.
One too many drinks - you got lost in the groove of the night. It's time to go home. As you leave the club, the sounds of 'Bblluurrryy' are floating in the air, every noise you hear melts into the music. Everything looks hazy. Nothing feels the same anymore.
