Another two years have passed since Metro Area last shook up the scene with a 12", and it is with great pleasure that Environ presents the latest outing from Morgan Geist & Darshan Jesrani: METRO AREA 7! This release finds Metro Area continuing on their quest for fresh sounds and timeless production, expanding the compositional palette while retaining the emotional spirit of their early influences. Metro Area have pushed themselves to once again make heartfelt, personal music that stands out from what the rest of the dance music pack is doing and the duo feel this EP is their strongest work since the release of their 2002 self-titled album. "Read My Mind" is the first full-on vocal track to actually be released by Metro Area (they had amassed a small catalog of unreleased vocal tracks since starting the project). "Honey Circuit" leads off at 45 RPM and spread over a full A-side of wax. It's been more than two and a half years since Metro Area last shook up the scene with a 12" record. That record was "MIURA" - a cult classic that continues to sell today and crossed over into DJ crates across the musical spectrum. after they huge full-lenght they were eager to get back to the 12" format, where the quality of the music (rather than the number of magazine articles) is the deciding factor between success and failure. METRO AREA 5, the newest installment in Metro Area's 12" series, is the result. This release finds the duo continuing on their quest for fresh sounds and timeless production, expanding their palette while retaining the emotional spirit of their first releases. "Nerves" is a suspenseful, driving piece with an irresistible groove soaked in frantic Latin percussion and fierce drums. Angular synthetic textures trade off aggressively, finally arriving at a gorgeous and melancholic destination awash in piano, strings and horns. This reissue of ENV001 "Premise EP" is remastered from the original tapes and features the original artwork by Todd Sines. Featuring a remix from The Connection Machine, the 1995 EP was recorded in Ohio and originally mastered inDetroit by the legendary Ron Murphy. The release marked the end of four years of Geist living the midwest and his return to the metro area of New York City, a dramatic shift that would soon be reflected in Environ's sound.
In 1994, with only a single 12" in his discography, Morgan Geist decided to start his own record label. His debut on Dan Curtin's Metamorphic label was inspired by the sounds of Detroit techno and Chicago house. But Geist was equally fascinated by UK imports from labels like Warp, B12, and ART. He sought to combine these inspirations on the first release of his new label, Environ. Featuring a remix from The Connection Machine, whose unique "Bitflower" was released the year before on Carl Craig's Planet E, "Premise EP" (1995) was recorded in Ohio and mastered in Detroit by the legendary Ron Murphy. The release also marked the end of four years of Geist living the midwest and his return to the metro area of New York City, a dramatic shift that would soon be reflected in Environ's sound. "I started fooling around with these instrumental tracks at night for fun. Each track was in a different style, but they seemed to work nicely as a group. By the time I asked Kelley to contribute strings to the A-side, the record really started feeling like the sequel to Super."

The Galleria is a project from Morgan Geist (Storm Queen, Metro Area) that ripples with echoes of the indigenous music of long-dead suburban New Jersey shopping malls and NYC radio stations: bombastic freestyle, club dubs, razor-edits and bubblegum-pop R&B. The newest single, Stop & Go, is the second release since the 2015 debut, Calling Card/Mezzanine. Vocals are once again provided by Jessy Lanza, whose two solo albums on Hyperdub were met with critical acclaim and were both shortlisted for the Polaris Prize. Stop & Go features a drum-a-pella for creative mixing, plus an extended, dancefloor-friendly dub.

San Serac has been bringing his blood house and wrong boogie funk to the clubs for a minute now. In the last few years he has toured extensively with Junior Boys, Wilderness and Shout Out Out Out Out, and his kinetic live show has disrupted every kind of venue including noted parties like Horse Meat Disco, Wierd and P.S.1 Warm Up in NYC. His self-released Professional album garnered many kind words from the underground, and his acclaimed Stereo Image project (with ex-Junior Boy Johnny Dark) made The Wire's top albums of 2008. After meeting Morgan Geist on tour the two got to talking, and the rest, as they say, is history. "Music Never Ends" is San Serac's first record for Environ, and it will burn a club hole in your soul with its catchy lyrics and no wave hip house style. Also on the A side is "Night Work," a manic depressive boogie track relaxing somewhere between the 80s funk of Aurra and the soul insanity of Station To Station. The B side is a remix of "Music Never Ends" by Morgan Geist himself, a stripped down classic techno jammer guaranteed to rock the crowd. San Serac is currently planning live dates for the fall, recording the follow up to Professional and wrapping up an album written and recorded with French house star Para One. He lives in Massachusetts.

REPRESS!!!!!!DETROIT is the first single from Double Night Time, the upcoming album from Morgan Geist and his first solo artist album in over a decade. It features two epic, gorgeous remixes from Grammy-nominated remixer Carl Craig and features vocals from Jeremy Greenspan of Junior Boys. After turning the dance music world on its head with his Metro Area project (alongside collaborator Darshan Jesrani) and mining rare disco gems with the seminal obscure disco DJ mix Unclassics (2004), Geist decided it was time to turn his attention to a solo album. “Detroit” is the lead song from the album and (as careful listeners may discern) is based loosely on “24K,” Geist’s cult classic track from 2001 (taken from the SUPER EP and recently covered by The Whitest Boy

"Entropy Reigns" is the first single from Kelley Polar's highly-acclaimed new album I Need You to Hold On While the Sky Is Falling. Already a cult hit, the song is getting more and more radio play and charting each week. It was downloaded nearly 100,000 times in its week as iTunes' Discovery Download, and Pitchfork (in its glowing review of I Need You... on March 4, 2008) said "...the sumptuous, string-drenched boy-girl duet of 'Entropy Reigns (In the Celestial City)' is one of the best of the year so far."We knew "Entropy Reigns" needed an incredible remix, so it was a simple decision to enlist Ewan Pearson and Al Usher (who also operate under the name Partial Arts) to work their magic. Pearson is a dance music veteran, and remixes for the likes of Depeche Mode, Chemical Brothers, Seelenluft, Franz Ferdinand and Freeform 5 have made him one of the genre's most respected producers. He has programmed for Goldfrapp and Gwen Stefani and his production credits include albums for Tracey Thorn and The Rapture, as well as Ladytron, Chikinki and Jeb Loy Nichols, amongst others. Partial Arts is a highly-respected name in dance music with several fantastic EPs on Kompact, Out of the Loop and Battle, as well as remixes for labels including Rekids and Ministry of Sound. Not only did these two have a keen understanding of pop music, sweaty dancefloors and strings, but they were big fans of Kelley Polar - so they turned in two remixes instead of one! For the more house- and tech-driven floors, check the four-on-the-floor beauty of the "Pearson and Usher's Closed System Dub" (spread deep and loud across the A-side). For more electro- and pop-fuelled DJ sets, "Pearson and Usher's Second Law Dynamix" does the trick, complete with an insane acid breakdown. This release finds Metro Area continuing on their quest for fresh sounds and timeless production, expanding the compositional palette while retaining the emotional spirit of their early influences. Metro Area have pushed themselves to once again make heartfelt, personal music that stands out from what the rest of the dance music pack is doing and the duo feel this EP is their strongest work since the release of their 2002 self-titled album. On the label's latest, Oath are proud to present 'Times', the latest morphological masterclass from Ukrainian producer extrodinaire Vakula, on which his boundless and intuitively captivating sound remains as absorbing as ever.
Drawing deeply from a rich palette of genres such as deep house, ambient, dub techno, and jazz, and feeding in inspirations from natural and philosophical spheres, Vakula's musical ethos has allowed him to continuously explore the inner and outer reaches of his universal soundscape. By feeling things out through hardware, he allows his music to grow organically, blending humanistic tendencies with technological outputs that always bring harmonious musical riches to the surface.
'Times' represents another seismic chapter in his story, one which contains a series of genre-defying blends that twist, turn, and enthrall with their ever-evolving beauty. 'Atmos Time' plays out as the EP opens up, and draws the listener close with a textured melodic chime and spaced out groove.
Floating along on a bed of cosmic ambience, the groove and melodic features cascade as one, drifting further through the layers of time and thought. 'Break Time' ups the urgency ever so slightly, with a similar atmosphere unraveling above an energised broken beat.
'Drum Time' brings in side B, and this one shifts perspective once more. The melodic sways up above merge and blend with the poly-rhythmic undertones, with the jungle-lite broken beat creating an enchanting energy. 'Soul Time' wraps things up, which moves into a distinctly ambient techno sort of realm. Dreamy pads and looping key lines intertwine amongst a captivating sea of mood and tone, as a laid-back beat shimmers underneath with poise and elegance. . reminiscent of early 3 Chairs, that is sure to keep the crowd jumping!
Ron Allen is a Toronto based JUNO Nominated music producer/songwriter/DJ and founder of legendary dance music label Strobe Records that was instrumental in developing the house and techno genres in Canada in the early 90’s. “Whispers” by The R.A.S.E. (Ron Allen Sound Experience), features melodic keys, dreamy vocals and a groovy, head-nod inducing bassline that sounds just as fresh now as it did when it was originally released in 1994.
Terrence Parker (“TP”) was born and raised in Detroit and has become legendary for his skillful turntablism style of playing House Music. Terrence has released more than 100 recordings on his Intangible Records & Soundworks label and various other international record labels. With lush keys, and soaring vocals, “Embrace (The Original Melody Vibe)” is one of the deeper cuts in the Intangible Records & Soundworks catalogue.

The opening track 'Dawn Chorus' is a trip into a more natural soundscape and deeper arrangement of sound. A perfect track to take a steady dance-floor to higher heights.
The A2, 'Low Winter Sun', aptly named deep house music with no frills. Proper sub-bass tuned for tuned-up soundsystem use.
'Meditations' which is the final track on the A side has clear broken beat influences, percussive, deep and rhythmic. A breather for the dance floor.
The title track of the EP, 'Journey to The Outer Atmosphere' is a big peak time house journey to the cosmos. Expansive synths, 909 kit and if timed well, certified to blow the dance floor up. Clear François K inspiration here.
The final track of the release, 'First Light', is proper deep house music named suitably for an early sun rise roller with a huge hammond organ solo, enough to keep the leavers in the building.

Ryjel was a band from suburban Pittsburgh, PA, that started out in the mid-1970s performing classic rock covers. The band was approached by a local entrepreneur who wanted to cut a single for the disco market, but a lack of financing scuttled the proposal. Nevertheless, the band was able to record a dozen of its original tunes in a professional studio for possible release, and among those songs were "Heart's On Fire" and "Baby Don't Stop."
Both tracks were recorded some 50 years ago having remained unreleased to this day. It needed the investigative work of the Tramp Records crew to discover them. Finally they are available on a strictly limited 45 RPM single release. In addition, the full length version of "Heart's On Fire" will soon be released on the upcoming Tramp Records compilation titled "CAN YOU FEEL IT Vol.5 - Modern Soul, Disco & Boogie 1977-88".
