Glenn Underground is the founding member of the Strictly Jaz Unit. He was raised on disco classics and freeform jazz in Chicago's Southside, the place where house music was born. Taking inspiration from Chicago's original pioneers, Larry Heard, Ron Hardy, Lil' Louis, and the like, Glenn has produced many sought after house gems for some of the most well respected deep house labels such as Prescription and Guidance. The Jerusalem EP's, GU's second album for Peacefrog originally released in 1997 still sounds so fresh, so deep and so soulful. Blending jazz-tinged chord progressions with sax accents, and rolling basslines the album evokes the sound of late-’90s hypnotic Chicago house. Timeless, quality, underground house music for the mind, the body and especially the soul.

Experienced Barcelonian Larry Lan's epic 10-minute opener 'WTNG' is minimal goes post-punk, repurposing well-known, undisguised lyrics into an aggressive take on early Perlon and explanation enough for his recent album drop on Cadenza. BKS vets N/UM return with 'A Free Woman in Queens' showing off a reduced side of their sound adjacent to mid-00s minimal with plenty of character, its stripped intro giving way to a fuller, dubbed-out second half, with the cheeky vocal and instrumental touches joined by a swelling pad. Featuring spoken vox from Mari Blue and the debut of BKS co-head Asha Jasz alongside DeWinter and Jay Prouty, 'Acid in Your Coffee' takes the dirtier route, with layers of zapping electronics, an insistent single-note acid bass, and synths drifting between tones and textures all veering off like its vocals before eventually returning to center. LA/Bucktown scallywag $coe brings it home with 'The Devil is a MF Liar', an acid jam whose profanity-laced vocal samples don't require divine intervention to decipher. Bookended by a pair of interludes, the first on the power of repetition and the last in memoriam BK legend Big Sexy in his own words, and again featuring striking artwork from notable NYC street artist Fumero, BKS keeps that Sway from going astray.

This 4 track monster pulls together a pretty heavy cast of Detroit Techno and deep House royalty in the shape of Chez Damier, MK and Derrick May all contributing various mixes and versions across the EP. If deep, driving, soul drenched House is your bag you will be in heaven with "Can you feel it", a truly classic slice of sophisticated dance music indeed. All of the mixes are killers, but it's the "MK Dub" mix, also known as the "New York Dub" that really steals the show, here MK and May combine to craft a classy, slamming, emotive string driven jam that pushes all the right buttons. OVERVIEW:
Born and raised in the birthplace of House Music, Paul Johnson was known for his raw, soulful, and infectious sound, that helped shape Chicago's house scene and inspired generations of DJs worldwide in particular he was a massive inspiration to Daft Punk and the 'French Touch' scene.
Releasing a vast amount of music throughout the 1990s for some of the most consistently underground dance labels including legendary Chicago imprints Cajual, Relief and Dance Mania he finally gained global fame with his 1999 hit “Get Get Down,” a dancefloor anthem that topped charts across Europe. In all of his years of being a certified veteran in the world of techno - from his beginning days in Napoli in the early 90s to his celebrated status around the world today - Marco Carola never once lost grip on his main priority: letting the music speak for itself. Throughout his leagues of vital releases and endless stream of DJ dates, his focus always steered clear of sensationalized press angles, or ranking up the charts; he chose to instead keep his head down and his passions high. Carola retains a rare sense of integrity, despite being an artist who's consistently changed the face of techno. He shrugs it off modestly, claiming only to "always try to do something new." "Inspiration changes a lot," he tells. "When I was a kid, I was inspired by other people's productions, and today I'm more inspired by the energy of evolving. I'm really passionate about the progress of music. I listen to all of the promos that I get sent because I look and search for something that's new to me. For me, music is still all of my passion. I don't really do many other things - I don't run a label, and I don't have people working for me because I don't want to use up the time that should be spent on music. And I think that's the reason that I'm always looking for something new: to expand even more." With the CD and Digital editions of the album coming in the form of a seamless mix, the Vinyl edition cherry-picks the cuts ripest for DJ use and presents them across three collectible 12"s. Among the tracks featured are the bass-laden groove of The Jingle, a sonic reverie filled with a vast space of percussive layers and stuttering vocals; Magic Tribe, a playground of drums and colorful beat texture; the gripping twists and turns of Kimbo; the shuffling bassline of Lighthouse, where around each loop lies a surprising new rhythmic element; Black Box, teasing and throbbing with dynamic climbs into a soundworld immersed in shadows; melodies slowly emerging and taking shape through the aptly titled Suspense; the stomping bass weight of One Man Show's wide-eyed entertainment; and potential 2011 dancefloor mainstay Freak On. "I called it 'Play It Loud!' because I think my music is based a lot on the groove and the bassline. I don't think I ever play a record if it doesn't have a bassline. So I think the way this album makes most sense is when you actually play it on a big soundsystem. Something like an iPod speakers won't probably make much sense of it. This is just my opinion of how the album should be played: loud! The energy of the music is for that."

There are few artists at work in electronic music today with a sound as unmistakable as Mathew Jonson. The Vancouver producer has been steadily turning out some of the most inspiring electronic compositions of the past decade, beginning with his debut 12" for Canadian imprint Itiswhatitis Recordings in 2001, with a career taking in releases on Minus, Perlon and Kompakt - along with a steady output on the Wagon Repair label he co-founded in 2005, and numerous related side projects including Cobblestone Jazz, The Modern Deep Left Quartet and Midnight Operator (alongside his brother Nathan aka Hrdvision). Learning To Fly will be Jonson's second release on Minus, following 2004's Decompression EP - the release that truly launched him on the international stage and laid out a blueprint for his ever-evolving style, one that manages to consistently explore new territory whilst maintaining the aesthetic that makes his productions distinct from every other artist working today. Learning To Fly is arguably one of the most exciting singular works of Jonson's career, recalling his first Wagon Repair release: 2005's Marionette, a record that continues to inspire cultish devotion six years after its release and thoroughly deserves every adjective for 'hypnotic' and 'anthemic' that's ever been thrown at it. Learning To Fly retains those qualities whilst taking them yet further - a 12 minute sci-fi exploration that achieves that mark of classic electronic music production, working just as thrillingly for personal listening as it does when experienced as part of Jonson's transcendent live performances. Jonson himself considers Learning To Fly to be among the best compositions of his career, and brings it to Minus after years of waiting for the right track to follow the mighty Decompression. "For me this piece reflects clarity and harmony," explains Jonson. "Richie Hawtin is someone who has always inspired me to take my work to new levels, so it's fitting that Learning To Fly will be released on Minus”
