Tracklist :
A1. Freaks - The Man Who Lived Underground - Ricardo Villalobos Remix One
AA1. Turner - Been Out - Tuff City Kids Vocal Remix
AA2. Freaks - Instrument - Unreleased 1999 Edit
Short info:
Initial release for the relaunch of MFF (Music For Freaks).
The label was previously responsible for releases such as Turning Orange, Washing Machine, Where Were You When The lights Went Out, The Creeps and worked with artists Recloose / Kenny Hawkes / Doc L Junior / Mark Farina to name a few.
For Let's Do It Again….Ricardo Villalobos delivers in an innovative reworking. Sent a variety of parts from tracks released on Freaks - The Man Who Lived Underground album, Ricardo took his inspiration from all of them and mixes them into a distinctively Villalobos track - it was originally 14 minutes long ! This is the 1st of a series of reworkings from him for the label and speaks for itself.
Turner - Been Out was a classic MFF release and Tuff City Kids, Gerd Janson & Phillip Lauer, get their hands dirty with the parts and show why they're 2 of house music's current treasures. Tuff City Kids remixes have featured on labels such as Output Recordings, Rekids, Careless, Spectral and Sonar Kollektiv.
Freaks - Instrument - one of the rediscovered unreleased gems from the days of dat recording.

... Villalobos, Martinez Brothers, Tuff City Kidz and Freaks all on the same record? This is the type of house music madness that dreams are made of.
A fitting start to the celebrations - we reckon you'll agree! ...
Tracklist:
A1. Freaks - He's Angry - Villalobos Techmix
A2. Freaks - Unbeknown to Us
AA1. Freaks - Time - The Martinez Brothers Remix
AA2. Freaks - Turning Orange - TCK 808 Fate Mix
Short info:
2019 marks the year that Music for Freaks has officially been running for over 20 whole years. Two decades of topsy turvy, downright Freakish behaviour. How the hell did that happen?
So, what better time to delve deep into the labels vaults again and uncover more of its hidden treasures. Back in 2015, we approached some of today's most discerning producers, those who truly "get" the label's ethos from old, to let them loose on tracks old and new. It brought to the fore the "Freaks - Let's Do It Again" series of releases and we're super chuffed to bring you the 3rd in the series to kick off the label's 20th anniversary celebrations; a new collaboration with likeminded artists and we think you'll agree it's another testament to the divergent & insouciant house music that has always been the beating heart of this label.
First up, we welcome back the Chilean anti-hero Ricardo Villalobos.
When we sent Ricardo the parts to the Freaks album, "The Man Who Lived Underground" a few years ago, he sent back 5 interpretations which blew our collective minds. This is the 3rd of his journeys. Edited by head Freak, Justin Harris, it delivers a tripped out, discordant tech mix of the Freaks track, 'He's Angry' and is a wonderfully warped and highly hypnotic jam, that drives deep down into the subconscious.
The 20th anniversary wouldn't feel right without some brand spanking new music from Freaks themselves.
This track was properly hidden in the Freaks DAT vaults from the 1990's and Justin & Luke have dusted it off, mixed it down and "Unbeknown To Us" will finally see the light of day. It's safe to say Freaks have always had a timeless feel to their music and this track, despite being 20 years old as an original production, is no exception.
Next up, The Martinez Brothers make their MFF debut and to say we're chuffed to be releasing this one after 3 years of it being in the vault, is a huge understatement. There's nothing but good vibes, cranked to eleven, on this cut and the brothers have cooked up a true rip snorting tech house remix of "Time", that will charm the roof off any self-respecting club or festival tent.
And last but by no means least, fellow previous collaborators on Let's Do It Again, Part 1, Gerd Jansen and Phillip Lauer, aka Tuff City Kids, have graced us with another superb remix of a firm Freaks favourite from back in the day, "Turning Orange". The duo have whipped up an excellent stripped 808, electro-hop mix with low slung electro beats, minor key atmospherics and nostalgic 80s vocal pitch-shifts. Villalobos, Martinez Brothers, Tuff City Kidz and Freaks all on the same record? This is the type of house music madness that dreams are made of.

Tracklist :
A1. FREAKS - EIGHTIES THROWBACK (Villalobos Greiner Remix Two)
AA1.FREAKS - WASHING MACHINE (Soul Clap's Static Cling Mix) , AA2.FREAKS - ROBOTIC MOVEMENT
Short info:
For Let's Do It Again 2….Ricardo Villalobos delivers his 2nd remix for the label (2 of 5 !) which he's worked up, alongside studio partner Frank Greiner, into a confoundingly brilliant reworking of Eighties Throwback. Taking Freaks' original and already twisted sounds and vocals and twisting them up even further into another 14 minute (in it's edited form) piece of musical genius.
Free of compromise and thus fitting the MFF ethos perfectly, the track is a wonderful example of Villalobos wildly experimental dexterity. This is for all those dedicated to their turntable and the love of an awe inspiring journey into sonics and beats.
On the flip side you'll find a record from the other side of the house planet... Boston disco inspired, Soul Clap rework Diz Washington's vocals on the wonderful Washing Machine to funk them up to within an inch of their beautifully original understated life. Fresh from working with P-Funk orginator, George Clinton, their Washing Machine remix is a crisp, futuristic and downright freaky funkathon which will undoubtedly resonate at clubs and after parties for many moons.
And last but not least, an original track from Freaks - originally a remix, Justin and Luke recorded back in the 90's which never saw the light of day, they removed any references, renamed it Robotic Movement and released it on their album The Beat Diaries. Here they've re-mastered the original for vinyl (never having been available before on wax) and are very happy to be able to press up one of the tracks they've been most proud of throughout the musical history of Freaks and Music For Freaks.

freaks - funk you (who do you trust dub)
Tracklist:
A1 – Shrunken Heads (One Pro Mix)
B1 – Absolut Zero
B2 – Funk You (Who Do You Trust Dub)
Short info:
To anyone with even a passing interest in the weirder end of good-time party-ready house music, Freaks should need little introduction. Luke Solomon and Justin Harris have been keeping our preferred kind of dancefloor vibrating to the cheekiest manifestations of house music since the mid-
90s, never letting up and moving in the same oscillations as the good ship Circus Company. From first emerging on Phono through to setting up their Music For Freaks label, stopping by Playhouse, Wash House and Rebirth amongst countless other labels along the way, the UK duo have
constantly given the traditions of house music a tickle in the ribs without losing that fundamental funk that makes a record great to dance to. We were thrilled to welcome Luke and Justin to remix Dave Aju’s “Nu Threads” at the end of last year, and now we follow up on that connection with a special EP
of gems from the extensive Freaks archives. On “Shrunken Heads (One Pro Mix)” the rock solid foundations of filter house music collide with
flamboyant synth noodlings for a truly cosmic end result, while “Absolut Zero” finds solace in a slower, deeper groove peppered with oddball effects tweaking and disembodied vocal samples. Heading further into loose-fit, slippery territory, “Funk You (Who Do You Trust Dub)” lets soulful sample licks
wriggle and writhe through a decidedly laid-back atmosphere that shows off the range Freaks have always sported in their output since day one. In many ways this coming together of Circus Company and Freaks feels like a logical development for two bastions of the oddball house music community, not to mention a great opportunity to hear tracks that otherwise might never have seen the light of day. Freaks, - Black Shoes White Socks
Back with yet another killer release and proving why it is impossible to pigeonhole this unstoppable label, Hot Creations welcome you into the utterly mesmerizing world of Freaks with their next huge hit 'Black Shoes White Socks.' This epic single release features impressive remixes from Chicago legend Cajmere and Hot Creation's new recruit wAFF. Wonderfully enchanting 'Black Shoes White Socks' oozes the air of a timeless classic, beautifully mystifying with intoxicating vocals by 012 aka DIZ and off-kilter Arabian flutes, it showcases immaculate production while perfectly grasping the sound of the new era, edged with popular appeal and disco flare. Up first on remix duty, number one professional Curtis Jones aka Cajmere delivers a dance floor bomb like only he can. This deep groover is pumped with a powerful bass and shoulder shifting clap while an effective play on the vocal is used to maximum effect. Over on the B–side and fresh from his debut EP on the label 'Rainbows', wAFF adds a welcoming dose of techno. This heavy-duty remix is certainly one for peak time, with added vocals submerged in deep, driving energy, this rising star is one to keep a close eye on.

12" Remote ControlEPdelivers the sameproduction quality asCAUCASIAN BOY’s classic singles, Spangle and Northern Lights.
GENRE/S:ACID HOUSE / DEEP HOUSE / HOUSE3.
TRACKLISTS: A SIDE: REMOTE CONTROLAASIDE: DYSTOPIA
SHORT INFO: “I can remember literally bolting across a busy warehouse party in the early 90's (I think it was actually DIY in Gloucester?) afterhearing a record come on which immediately stood out to me, hadn't heard it before.... A clear 303 single note bassline/hook with sublime strings and undeniable flavours of Detroit and Chicago in the drums and vibe. I needed to know what it was!!That record was "Northern Lights" by Caucasian Boy (AKA Crispin J Glover and David Jenkins, AKA DJ Shakra), and I have honestly been playing it ever since. Fast forward 28 years, and here we are releasing their new acid house monster, the Remote Control EP”Justin Harris Remote Control immediately puts youback in the warehouse or one of those dark, sweaty basement parties which have shaped manymusical educationsover the decades, you know, when things are just starting to get really involved! Beginning with a relentless 90's feel and withmore thana nod to early 90's Belgian Techno, Remote Control steers you through a perfect six and a half minutes of heads down warehouse acid groove, all culminating in a kick-ass gorgeous breakdown. And then there's Dystopia.A deep, dark 909 driven cut of excellence. You can hear in every bar that the purveyors of this track have a deep experience of and are driven to write for the dance floor. Once again, making perfect use of 303, 909 and 808 (amongst others) Dystopia pullsno punches and shamelessly leads you right into the middle of that sweaty dancefloor, and it's perfectly executed deliverykeeps you right there.

Dan Ghenacia & Chris Carrier - No Title
The tag team are back with another club-ready release bringing together their combined experience and production prowess. Dan Ghenacia and Chris Carrier are long-time friends who’ve been working together in the studio over the last few years, resulting in a series of EPs on labels like Apollonia, Adult Only and, of course, Music For Freaks, for whom this is their second release. On the A-side ‘Vocalized’ comes at us full throttle with a powerful bassline and crisp, punchy beats. The vibe is unrelenting with a neat call and response vocal clip and a simple, catchy melody in the top line, keeping it hypnotic. Funky, groovy and full of potent energy from start to end. On the flip ‘Burning’ has a similar aesthetic, with taut drums and bass, plus a range of unusual sounds to add depth and character. Indecipherable vocal clips pop up occasionally, and the pace picks up as the track hits the midpoint. A repeated siren-esque effect locks you into the groove, keeping you hopelessly hooked until the end...

Tracklist:
A1. They Sleep We Love feat. Foxxee
A2. They Sleep We Dub feat. Foxxee
B1. They Sleep We Love feat. Foxxee (Sev's Bay Area Remix)
B2. They Sleep We Love feat. Foxxee (Foxxapella)
Shortinfo:
After a wildly successful collaboration on Thatmanmonkz's "Turn It Out" from the LP, Columbus-ing, Dave Aju suggested they should continue their production streak for a new percussive tracks project.
At the same time, Aju had finally kept his word to legendary Bay Area club/underground MC and personality, Foxxee aka Foxxee Brown aka Lawrence Petty, to work on a track together as well. Petty being a core part of the infamous Ya Mama's House radio show on 106 KMEL alongside Pete Avila and David Harness that introduced legions of young Bay Area DJs to real House Music, includ-ing Aju, in the early 90s.
While Aju & Monkz had originally been working on more of a slick club romance narrative angle over some robust tumbling drums, some very tragic news had struck their hometown - at an under-ground event in Oakland California, more than 30 people including many dear friends and stalwarts of the local dance music community had been trapped inside a building and killed in a fire that broke out while doing what they love, in the now-infamous Ghost Ship.
Lawrence and Aju immediately acknowledged and agreed that the track should serve as a tribute to the event and the loved ones affected by it. But decidedly, rather than it being a solemn requiem of sorts, it should reflect the communal power, strength and uplifting spirit of the underground scene they all helped build and knew so well.
At first entitled They Sleep We Live, a representative reference to the iconic arm tattoo of the late Jonny Igaz aka Nacht, one of the more well-known and active DJs whose life was lost that tragic evening, and a lyrical direction idea for Lawrence for a direct tribute to the SF Bay Area scene, it was then decided that a universal underground anthem angle would be far more appropriate and that brothers and sisters from around the world in scenes just as the deep and expansive as the one in the Bay Area are a part of what happened - an extended family for real.
Aju and Monkz then imbued the track with some flavor and attitude that evoked their own respective rave scene heydays - from early Cajual/Relief style fuzzy drum knocks to a filtered voiced bass line nod to MAW. The track was then unintentionally renamed They Sleep We Love by hands at the Music For Freaks label office, who loved at first listen and agreed to release it, a happiest of fitting acci-dents followed by fellow dance floor maverick Seven Davis Jr hearing the tune from Dave Aju, and immediately offering an enthused and upbeat remix. Aju paired the cuts with a nasty They Sleep We Dub version for the later-night DJ moments, and a clean "Foxxapella" so Lawrence's loving words can be heard and felt directly, fast forward through a bit of processing time, and now the rest as they say..

A1. Two Sharp Pencils (Get Bad) Anna Wall & Corbi Remix
AA1. Two Sharp Pencils (Get Bad) Jamie 3:26 Punk Funk Version
Shortinfo:
Anna Wall & Corbi's take on Queen drummer Roger Taylor's 'Two Sharp Pencils (Get Bad)'. The result? One of the most unlikely and essential party records of 2017.
Queen and house music: not necessarily the most obvious of bedfellows, but Music For Freaks has never been a label to take the path most travelled. Over the course of their de-cades long journey the label founded by Luke Solomon and Justin Harris has released uni-quely idiosyncratic dance music, establishing the label as a go-to imprint for those seeking imaginative, unpredictable records that still undeniably work on the dancefloor.
Their latest release might well be among the most out-there of them all.
Originally released back in 1984, 'Two Sharp Pencils (Get Bad)' is a record by Queen drum-mer Roger Taylor, featuring him on vocals as well as drums, bass & guitar. Now brought bang up to date via a fully official and endorsed remix courtesy of Anna Wall & Corbi, this overlooked album track looks set to become one of the summer's most essential records.
Born and bred in the UK, Anna Wall is a DJ, producer and label owner who is a key player in London's underground house music scene. Her label The Bricks champions up-and-coming producers, while Anna herself has DJ'd all over the world, most recently for Mixmag at Pacha for their IMS launch party.
Corbi is an Ibiza-based DJ and producer, A&R for the highly respected FINA Records and co-founder of Melon Bomb, a party and DJ collective that has in the space of just a couple of years become one of the White Isle's most talked-about exports.
Having met while working at house giant Defected Records some years ago, Anna felt that Corbi would be the perfect studio accomplice to work on the remix of 'Two Sharp Pencils'.
"I was honoured to be asked to remix Roger Taylor. It felt right to work with Juan as we have a really great workflow, and he'd just released his first single on my label The Bricks. We made it at his home studio in Ibiza and were absolutely inspired by our surroundings." Anna Wall
The remix of 'Two Sharp Pencils' is about as far away from a run-of-the-mill house record as its possible to get. Full of character, unexpected turns and moments of joyful brilliance, it's every DJs dream: a statement record that will illuminate every dancefloor and stage at which it is dropped.
"It was a great project to work on with my good friend and producer Anna Wall who had managed to get hold of the stems of this Roger Taylor track. We retained all the parts we loved and then added extra drums, synth parts and textures, really trying to stay faithful to the vibe of the original." Juan Corbi
The package also includes an additional version from Chicago's Jamie 3:26, who adds disco guitar licks and claps - as well as incorporating additional vocals - for his Punk Funk versi-on.

SPECIAL REMARKS : 2017 Remaster 12” with new (actual) MFF Housebag, 150g Vinyl
Tracklist:
A: Sure
AA : Angie's Fucked
Short info:
Repress of the original vinyl release on MFF back in 2001....
Newly re-mastered for 2017, Angie's Fucked and Sure are sounding bigger and better. Driving dubby deep house with freaky effects.
This EP was undoubtedly one of MFF's release highlights and C++ (aka Joshua, Circulation, J-Boom, C++, Free Energy, Stereo People, Dubwise and as Iz of Iz & Diz) needs no introduction having been making music for past 24 years and setting up Vizual Records with production partner Diz.
He's previously released tracks on label giants such as Prescription, Balance, Clas-sic, Junior Boys Own, OM and Guidance, working with the likes of Derrick Carter, Chez Damier and Cajmere.
Four Tet also chose to pay homage to this rarity by adding Angie's Fucked to his highly revered Fabric Live 59 compilation, released in 2011. The track sits comfor-tably alongside Burial, Floating Points, Red Rack'em, Ricardo Villalobos and Cari-bou, who all feature on the album too.

Two of Paris’ original old school bad boys get together for the third in their special series of collabs. With fresh new releases already on the streets through their own labels, Apollonia and Adult Only, Dan Ghenacia and Chris Carrier step up to the legendary Music For Freaks with a brand new collection of delectable dance floor delights. Music For Freaks is back after a long break and this release couldn’t be anymore fitting for the highly-respected label’s relaunch. Full of vibrant flavours and addictive rhythms, Dan and Chris bless MFF with some irresistible Paris funk. Kicking off with ‘Vaporized’, a catchy little groover with dried out percussion which slaps down over a sultry bassline. Wibbly-wobbly FX combine with mysterious chimes and sketchy radio interference to create an odd atmosphere. Then we have ‘The Green Bell’, a squelchy heads-down vibe provider. ‘Wind And Fire’ brings the EP to a close and continues the duo’s use of strange sounds to great effect. This is no run-of-the-mill 4x4 production, there’s depth, subtle progression and hypnotic rhythms as only two seasoned pros like Dan and Chris can muster. An instant classic, what more would you expect from Music For Freaks?...

“It’s just too easy to make a standard dance track,” Aphex Twin said of his mindset back in 1992. “You’ve got to put a bit of thought into it to get something a bit different.” ‘Didgeridoo’ was released on the Belgian R&S Records label in 1992, and originally peaked at #55 in the UK singles chart in May of that year. Over the last 32 years the track has become one of the essential Aphex Twin tracks in a gargantuan catalogue that continues to amaze and inspire. “I wanted to have some tracks to play to finish the raves I used to play in Cornwall, to really kill everybody off so they couldn’t dance,” Richard D James, AKA Aphex, told Select magazine back in the 90s. “Digeridoo came out of that.” Released as a 4 track EP that also included early Aphex productions (now classics) including the industrial, acidic clang of ‘Flap Head’ and hyperbolic futurism of ‘Isopropanol’, the release cemented a relationship with the R&S label that went on to release the ‘Xylem Tube’ EP and the pivotal album ‘Selected Ambient Works 85-92’ in the same year. The label’s owner & A&R Renaat Vandepapeliere reflected “When I first heard Aphex Twin’s music I said, ‘This is it!’, and everybody else said, ‘You’re crazy!’ …a lot of the hardcore R&S fans dropped us. To them it wasn’t music.” ‘Didgeridoo’ (Expanded Edition) is the first time the EP has been re-issued with extra material. Whilst digging in his DAT archive (allegedly stored in an airtight military ammo box), Richard James revisited the recordings, encoding them through a Nakamichi CR7e cassette deck, using the customised deck with vari-speed to encode at speeds “felt right at the time”. Alongside these CR7e versions, the original mixes have been remastered by Beau Thomas at Ten Eight Seven Mastering, offering a dilated insight into one of electronic music’s most endearing releases.

Short info:
A humanity-reminding suite of miracle moments, Someone Like Me unites a geographically unbound cast of real people in pursuit of a meaningful connection. Taping their lived experience in economic studios in quiet English counties, Pacific Northwest woodland retreats and the big city bustle of Sydney and Los Angeles, these kindred spirits rendered sheer beauty in the process. Custom pressed folk songs of love, loss and the lord saviour.
Illuminating minor works from seasoned players such as former Syndicate Of Sound chart-topper Sharkey and late-era Canned Heat lynchpin James Thornbury, the collection simultaneously honours the fleeting amateurism of hobby musicians. With their one shot at tangible vinyl, freshman Lynne Ann Kingan realised her loose bubblegum rocker on campus time, while U.S. Navy recruit Fred Potts cut his unconditionally serene ballad remotely stationed on a Spanish naval base. Spartan production continues to reign with Jon Betmead’s hair-raising gospel, howling into infinite space, and Goldrust’s stripped back garden hymn.
Throughout the hour-long reflection, faith has an intermittent yet revelatory presence, most overtly with the divine choral soul of Seventh-day Adventist quartet Remnant. More subtly, Gary Ramey and Jim Kennedy both turned to song in their spiritual quests, offering their all to a universal power. An irrefutable compilation cornerstone, the National Office For Black Catholics showcased Charles Murphy’s lionhearted account of the Black experience at a 1971 concert. Five years earlier, high school seniors The Superwomen would use their hauntingly angelic harmonies to address racial inequity with a breathless take on ‘Lowlands’.
Reaching the furthest corners, Someone Like Me secures the inaugural licence of three homespun masterpieces. Discovered by fluke in the digital haystacks of Youtube and Soundcloud, Jim Huxley’s bedroom pop earworm melds peacefully into Charlie Webster’s synthesized reverie. Meanwhile, Hollywood’s John Agostino introduces us to the bizarre world of tax scam records, with the artist only now learning that his tender psych-folk demos were leaked via a 1977 bootleg.
Compiled and lovingly restored by armchair digger Mikey Young (Eddy Current Suppression Ring/The Green Child), Someone Like Me pays due service to seventeen rarefied journals of truth and devotion. Adorned with visual artist Chris Fallon’s figure and flora dream extractions, the uniting songbook is further detailed by expansive track-by-track liner notes and a forward from San Franciscan poet Rod Roland.

This whole text about a compilation of legit chill slippers could be over with one quote of drummer Aaron Sterling. The John Mayer band member and studio guru called Basso (our compiler) the „ECM of chill wave“.
As we all know, even if some words may be hollow, good quotes help to tell a story. And that is definitely a great quote and if someone has a good story to tell, it is Basso.
Best known for his label Growing Bin and probably even more so for the online record shop of the same name, he is one of those miraculous figures in music or record culture who can be called a true believer.
Helplessly addicted to collecting music nonstop (hence Growing Bin) from all corners of the spectrum and with an uncanny knack of finding precious little diamonds, where others only assume slop, his shop features everything from original trance tapes to fake reggae and plain private press folly. Much to the pleasure of his devoted customers and even more so to the nickel nursers who use his website for window shopping and go bargain hunting in the dusty canyons and wide plains of the internet. Unfair, you might think, because knowledge like that comes with a commitment. A commitment that is not only financial in nature, but also involves time, dedication, thrift store and flea market visits and hardships (lacerated cuticles especially).
Sitting in Trees for International Feel is a sampling demonstration of this commitment. Devotees of his previous compiling efforts Proper Sunburn (Music For Dreams) and Lucky Are Those Who Hear The Birds Sing (Growing Bin), know what to expect: some of the best songs you have never heard before, some you would probably never hear without this and even some that you did not know you would even like. Even self-proclaimed record diggers might not recognize more than Mystery Voice by smooth jazz new agers Dancing Fantasy. It is a world of merry music that pretty much is boundary- and genre-free and includes sunshine stepper like Beau Michael’s Move Away. Patrick Jahn’s and Erobique’s previously unreleased Moonlight Shuffle (the soundtrack to a lost Schimanski Tatort) and Christian Ch. Kneisel’s impossible-to-find Balearic digi gem Jungle Connection.
All contextualized, explained and wonderfully described with meticulous liner notes by the king
of record descriptions himself: Basso. But what else would you expect from a DJ turned trip-hop-producer turned artiste turned record sommelier? Magic moments galore that won’t make you move away!
Short: Legit chill slippers by the „ECM of chill wave“ by Growing Bin boss and record collector sommelier Basso. A world of merry music, precious little diamonds and impossible to find records. File under Balearic beats, smooth hardcore jazz, new age ambient or fake reggae.

For an aesthetic of (dis)obedience. The impressions Richard Siegal and his company Ballet of Difference gathered on a trip to Japan in September 2022 now find their way into a full-length dance evening. Siegal and his team had set off for Tokyo to learn the practice of Shuudan Koudou, also known as "Japanese Precision Walking". The strictly synchronised group choreographies are astonishing in their radical stringency and have become a secret YouTube hit, not least because of their peculiar subtle humour. Siegal recognises in the extreme disciplining of the bodies an analogy to the training practice of classical ballet. In the mutual exchange of these movement cultures, questions are raised about individual and collective thinking, about personal decision-making power and social responsibility. For this extraordinary project, Richard Siegal has invited a special guest: Nazareth Panadero, long-time companion of Pina Bausch, who has long since become an icon of Wuppertal dance theatre and will be on stage with the BoD ensemble.
The production BALLET OF (DIS)OBEDIENCE is sponsored by Goethe Institut, with the kind support of Sissel GmbH.

On the other hand, hybrid 3 is inspired by Noh Play - Japanese performances and deals with the refusal of rules musically, hybrid three continues the two previous albums and weaves both rhythmic and beatless musical pieces into a holistic work.
The idea for me has always been that these albums are not only perceived as individual tracks, but as a whole piece, which is why I find the possibility of experiencing and listening to these albums in the right order and as a whole particularly important. For me, the pieces are not only closely related to the ballet that was created for them, but also function as individual pieces as pure, musical pieces and mark a new quality for me, which is very strongly focussed on producing electronic sounds and structures in such a way that they can develop a sculptural quality.

CHOREOGRAPHY & STAGE: RICHARD SIEGAL

B1. Oscar Mulero - Why Are You Holding a Gun?
B2. Oscar Mulero - The Sunlight Blinded His Eyes
Known for his intense DJ sets and heavily textured productions, Oscar Mulero embodies all that has made him a central figure in the international techno scene in 'The Stranger'. His first release on Token since 2021's 'Titan', the Spaniard announces his return the only way he knows how, through layered concoctions of noisy synth work and impactful percussion wrapped up in a four track EP of impressive weight.
The record's first track 'The Sweat and the Salt' is a representative introduction to the rest of the project. Mulero holds nothing back with his moody, obscure style and funnels measured grit into every detail he can. Hypnotic to its core but noisy and saturated enough to give it an industrial edge, the intricacies of this first track are upheld and continued in 'The Reddish Glow'. Here, we have more of a melodic back and forth being played between synth sequences. With no small dose of reverb to open up the dimension of the track, the incessant tapping of high to low frequency plucks make it a destabilizing mind trip of a club record. Complete with racing hi hats and his signature kick, Mulero plays with his elements to ensure depth in disorientation. 'Why Are You Holding a Gun' flattens up the space a little bit, creating more of a two-dimensional ambiance and taking synth distortion to a new level. A mess of an analog sequence hissing in the high end is paced out by metallic rides and short hi hats, making an effective dancefloor instrument. As powerful as ever, the PoleGroup boss controls his chaos with rhythmically questionable elements that add to the general delirium of 'The Stranger'. As the final chapter, 'The Sunlight Blinded His Eyes' is the perfect arrival to a stomping EP. A meditative pad hovers in the back while a rhythmically centered track forms, shuffling through drum patterns and an infectious bassline. Still packing a punch in the kick, this final song takes us out into the cosmos after a high pressure club music display by one of Spain's most respected contributors to techno.

The three-track vinyl is sourced from the original reels, cut at 45rpm, and comes with its iconic artwork on a 350gsm sleeve.
Ich möchte ein Eisbär sein…Written by Martin Eicher after a nightmare in which he saw talking polar bears on the walls, and with music by the Grauzone crew consisting of Martin and his brother Stephan Eicher, Marco Repetto, Christian "GT" Trüssel, and Claudine Chirac (on saxophone), "Eisbär" is the most recognizable title from the band, a sublime mix of ingredients reflecting the transitional era it comes from - the raw energy of punk music still palpable, combined with the audacity of early electronics, the warm groove of a disco gem, beautifully fragile lyrics, and one of the best basslines ever. It became a mega hit, totally unplanned, but how could you resist such a track?
"FILM 2" is the ultimate b-side monster, a menacing all-instrumental pre-techno masterpiece, slowly building to a magnetizing frenzy. An instant underground favorite, it was famously heard played at both speeds depending on the scenes and DJs you were frequenting, 45rpm as it was first intended, and 33rpm for the cosmic experience (search Daniele Baldelli’s Cosmic C75 1982 mixtape online for a great example of this).
The maxi single ends with "Ich Lieb Sie", a synth-pop meets doo-wop ballad, a true love song oozing with innocence. Simple, stylish, and just right.
At the crossroads of post-punk, new wave, pop, and electronic experimentation, the Eisbär maxi offers three songs that are technically different but hold the same spirit, the perfect embodiment of Grauzone’s music - wild, unpredictable, and youthful, yet sophisticated, catchy, and ingenious. The magic recipe for the good stuff.
Stephan Eicher went on to be, arguably, the most successful Swiss musician ever, with an international career extending from pop chanson to experimental escapades and collaborations with Moondog, artists Sophie Calle and John Armleder, and author Martin Suter among many other luminaries. Marco Repetto flourished as a techno and ambient producer, releasing multiple projects including releases on Aphex Twin’s Rephlex label.
Grauzone and WRWTFWW will continue to collaborate on the band’s 40th anniversary reissue campaign, with numerous projects planned for the year, including a vast selection of music, visuals, and literature never available before.
