Feel safe: like newborn, take your first careful steps on a clean slate while Maayan is your supervisor. Naïve and happy, you leave carbonbon footprints on your way into the positives. Then a faster pace: some tribal folk music from a tiny world, where people dance around an LED fire, commands a gallop to the one and ollam. Latinfection guaranteed.
Your nonplus motion interferes with environmental geometry. A memory from an analog past flashes like a daydream. Upward and rising, your smile workout succeeds while scintillating waves say “hello!”. Having grown up to a motorik being, the determined goal however never appears. The journey into a perfect storm is the reward. Maayan sends you some motivating words.
Then have a break and jump on the light train of thoughts to enjoy blurred reflections: on the water and in your mind. Sing your body beautiful and free. Words come in bubbles, a heart-throb away from a light tower. Feel like stumbling into new adventures on a pathless terrain.
Slowly and cautious, the novemberme, which is the one that approaches dawn, celebrates tristesse with a funny accent. Kick the blues with a beat. Somewhere lost but regenerated, find sisyphos’ generator of vitality. A nascent religious mood at the Autobahn service station fades into the fog.
Finally, the circle of pace is almost closed. After laughter of amazement, Maayan leaves you with a soothing mantra of confidence: an everyday ritual fun you should indulge yourself in. It comes in waves.

Depeche Mode, Yazoo, Erasure's Vince Clarke, Blancmange's Neil Arthur and the electronic producer-writer-synth-nerd Benge have joined forces to form the new project Doublespeak. Set to be released on May 29th, their self-titled debut album revisits eleven of their favourite songs from the past four decades, each reimagined and renewed in the timeless space of gleaming analogue electronica.

The 'Doublespeak' album is divided between songs from the postpunk netherworld brought blinking into the light (Fad Gadget, The Sound, Young Marble Giants), pop radio monsters ushered back down a dark stairway into the club (ABBA, David Essex, The Carpenters) and buried treasures from the 1990s onwards (The Magnetic Fields, Ed Dowie and Laptop).

Collectively, the album amounts to a shadow autobiography of the three collaborators' continuing musical education. Doublespeak is the great human songbook, synthesised.
Empathic vocals, bold arrangements and glowing analogue electronics turn familiar and forgotten songs into a personal, forward-looking electronic statement.

Known principally as a smooth titan of blue-eyed soul, Bobby Caldwell transcended genre tags with consummate ease; he was a musical icon of real class and versatility, cherished the world over. Tragically passing away in March 2023 at the too young age of 71, it still feels as if Bobby's true artistry is profoundly under-appreciated. His double platinum self-titled album from 1978 is a timeless masterpiece of sophisticated jazzy soul brilliance and is strictly canonical. Yes, it's perfect, yet it's been out of press on vinyl for years. We're deeply honoured to present the long-awaited reissue this summer.

Whilst Ned Doheny is known in Japan as "Mr California", native New Yorker Bobby Caldwell has always been "Mr AOR" to his Far-Eastern friends. His distinct charm is an irresistible blend of soul, jazz, and pop influences. He possessed phenomenal songwriting prowess, smooth vocal performances, was both a great soul guitarist and dextrous keyboard player and known for genius chord progressions. It all added up to a multi-layered brilliance entering the studio, and the singular sound he landed on was laced with soulful, sweeping strings and funky horns, touching lightly on disco, while allowing his supple voice to carry the stunning tracks he'd crafted.

String-swept opener "Special To Me" immediately sets the tone with its lush instrumentation, rich harmonies, and Caldwell's velvety-smooth vocals. Next up, a huge one. The infectious, mid-tempo bounce of "My Flame" showcases Caldwell's ability to effortlessly blend catchy pop hooks with soulful arrangements. It's an exquisite, emotive ballad that, at the same time, absolutely SLAPS. Game recognise game, and all that, so, accordingly, Notorious B.I.G. memorably ran with “My Flame” for his 1997 single “Sky’s The Limit”. The rolling, disco-very "Love Won't Wait" is a slick, uptempo track containing heartfelt lyrics intertwined with elegant strings and a horn section to die for. Aching - and achingly cool - single "Can't Say Goodbye" is a real fan favourite, and it's no surprise. It's a laconic, slow-mo jazz-funk stepper, with fantastic, very deliberate playing that closes out the A Side quite exceptionally. "Come To Me" slows proceedings down elegantly to open Side B before the universally agreed-upon masterpiece enters proceedings.

"What You Won't Do for Love," the standout hit that became a classic in its own right, perfectly captured Bobby's ability to infuse a contagious groove with introspective and relatable lyrics. With its instantly recognisable horn riff and Caldwell's soulful delivery, this timeless, chiller anthem continues to captivate audiences and define his musical legacy. He scored huge with the track, taking over the pop and R&B airways with this mellow soul stepper. It has remained a perennial favourite and has been heavily sampled, such is its unique allure; Aaliyah sang over snatches of it on "Age Ain’t Nothing But A Number" and you can hear Caldwell’s vocal sample used for the hook on Tupac’s posthumously released “Do For Love”.

Upon submitting the finished album to his label, they requested more material in hope of a big single. As Bobby remembered to Wax Poetics a few years ago: “Now at this point, I’m mentally exhausted...and bear in mind that I got so close to all the songs I’d written. I gave each song a profound amount of thought, and maybe too much. So, in haste, I went in and cut this song, "What You Won’t Do For Love". Wrote it in a day, cut the rhythm track, overdubbed the horns, I sang the song, and literally turned it in three days after. And lo and behold, the one song I gave the least thought to,” Bobby laughed, “ended up being a national anthem.”

The mysterious, magical "Kalimba Song" is a cosmic, kalimba-driven melodic-funk instrumental - short but oh, so sweet. It's followed by the supreme tear-jerker "Take Me Back To Then", Bobby's otherworldly voice deeply longing for a simpler time, "when life was mellow". I think we can all get behind this sentiment. The final cut is arguably its deepest, its low-key finest moment. For us, it is, anyway. The glorious, driving, effortlessly funky guitar-soul jam "Down For The Third Time" is a huge melancholic Be With favourite and has been played by discerning genre-hopping DJs with significant glee for years. Hypnotic, melodic, beautiful. Like the album it elegantly rounds out.

Bobby sadly passed away on 23rd March 2023, after a long struggle with mitochondrial damage and oxidative stress, due to an adverse effect from a fluoroquinolone antibiotic. The reissue of his wonderful eponymous album will be available on vinyl across the globe, ensuring that fans of his incomparable talent - and soul music enthusiasts worldwide - can radiate in the deep beauty of this seminal album. Meticulously remastered and cut by both Simon Francis and Cicely Balston respectively, it has been pressed to the highest possibly quality at Record Industry in Holland.

Now with over 20 years of releases behind him, Oliver Huntemann finds himself on the cusp of yet a new era in his career. 'Propaganda' is the fifth proper artist album from the Hamburg-based DJ/producer, and like each of its predecessors, it shows a different side to one of the most consistently rewarding names in techno. Released on his own Senso Sounds label, the album exudes the level of assurance that perhaps only comes with being so active in curating and developing a label that has stood out from the masses since its inception in 2014.

'Propaganda' opens with 'Taktik', and the mood is quickly established through crisp motorik drum programming and deep, pulsing bass lines. 'Poltergeist' - the 2nd cut, continues this aesthetic - a deep and spacious groover. Clocking in at over 1 hour 15 minutes, the album allows a lot of space for itself, each tracking having the time it needs to develop and unfold. 'Egoist' ramps up the feel somewhat with intricate melodies and effects, before breaking down into something that will destroy many dance floors.
Yet the beauty of the album format is that it allows for various mood changes, and 'Malaria' brings us something of a shift into a more freaked out and edgy vibe, while 'Anonym' highlights Huntemann's mastery of atmosphere, serving as an ambient / downbeat interlude.

'Rotlicht' is perhaps a standout for fans of Huntemann's epic DJ sets, exhibiting all the control and release dynamic that make him such an engaging performer. It's also clearly a key cornerstone for the entire album

Next up is 'Absurd', followed by 'Manipulation' - both reference the exquisite sound design Huntemann instils into his precision- built tracks, while remaining primed for club use at all times. 'Momentum' switches up the tempo, perhaps influenced by more experimental, no wave and krautrock sources - and serving as punctuation before the album's final triptych.

'Vertigo' sees shimmering arpeggiated synths skip across a solid rhythm track, while 'Doppelgänger' builds a delicious tension through constant pads and pulsing, blocky bass tones. 'Trick17' ultimately rounds off 'Propoganda', - an expanse of emotionally charged techno with Huntemann's signature feel woven into its fabric.

Now Kavinksy emerges from this late-night haze with the helping of friends, bearing a collection of covers, remixes, and second takes for yet another drive through the midnight hours...?The song was produced by Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo of Daft Punk and mixed by SebastiAn and finds the spooky, distorted, zombie vocals of Kavinsky perfectly counterbalanced by the sultry purr of CSS' front kitten Lovefoxxx.?On the other side, Kavinsky has produced the fantastic "Pacific Coast Highway". This track really taps into the Kavinsky story as a voiceover narrates a high-speed ghost-car chase on the freeway. As the label turns 35 years, Tresor Records’ ongoing reissue series comes round to Scan 7’s 1999 album, Resurfaced.
A true exemplar in the canon of Detroit techno, the LP is a further reminder of Scan 7’s confidence to patiently let the music unfold, never needing to overplay their hand. This is demonstrated from the first second as Random Soul opens with a slow downbeat and soft, almost imperceptible synths before quickly settling into a perfect groove whose power is present without the need for a hard edge. This strategy is utilised throughout the album in tracks like Black Wall and Unit , while Invisible Invasion and Twisted Groov add in some intensity for deeper moments in the club.
Remastered by Mike Grinser from the original DATs, the double vinyl features the original eight tracks from the album, while the digital version (and cassette tape) includes two bonus tracks: Custom Made and Mind Trap.

Hectic times require adequate measures. Shorten the text message, shorten any URL, filter a newsfeed to make a broadband broader - in any way, take a shortcut wherever you intend to go. While the world is struggling for convenience, those who chose the road less travelled will soon become - or already are? - outsiders. In many ways this is the case of Jacek Sienkiewicz - with over 30 releases behind, and over a decade of running his own label, he persistently followed his very own path, creating music that very soon began to be impossible to define. Friendly, but not fraternizing with everyone and his family, modest, but stubborn only in a positive way, Jacek is an individual with clear, personal vision and an unorthodox approach to music - light years away from the hectic, utilitarian ethos of club-derived electronic beats.
And this story finally took shape - at the same time rock solid and otherworldly ethereal - in the form of "On the Road", without any doubt one of the few rare records, this complex and challenging, to be derived in recent years from the music formerly known as techno. This album successfully attempts to embrace virtually all aspects of modern electronic music - from rave-like club bangers, through Detroitish passion and deep house-like style, towards ambient soundscapes that are Mariana Trench deep. Although "Departure" and "Arrival" are clearly marked, in fact this is a journey without a beginning or end, an endless peregrination in search of the lost chords, primal rhythms and melodies coming supposedly from another world. "On the Road" is also another collaboration with Cocoon - starting with "Téchnè", through the memorable "Displaced", the cycle is now completed with one of the most experimental albums to appear on Sven Väth's label to date. This record is not easy and is definitely demanding attention - but it's also rewarding like no other. "On the Road" encapsulates Jacek's journey to date - and is by no means its closing chapter. Quite the contrary - it's a blueprint for an even more advanced attempt to create a truly timeless piece of art without denying its obvious, energetic and joyful roots. This is proper music - full of energy, life, impossibly complex yet light as a feather, dense, thought-provoking and playful at the same time. Balancing between dirty noises and angelic melodies it is still moving and at times simply breath-taking. From the opening drone, in a second turned into a whirlwind of sounds and noises, via robotic fanfares for the common traveller and muscular bass-driven anthems for still non-existent dancefloors, towards ambient-like bliss - we hear mature, totally original musician, an artist with the one and only approach to a sound that is both perfectly clear - and amazingly multi-layered. "On the Road" took several years to complete - but as a whole, for the keen listener will surely bring years of amusement, as new sounds, voices and brilliantly clever arrangement patterns are revealed with each new listen. It's not Detroit nor Santiago, not Sheffield nor Berlin, it's not even the sound of Jacek's home town of Warsaw - this is the real music of the spheres.
