About 18 months ago, Let's Play House released its most significant EP to date: Fantastic Man's It's Essential. Since then, the Australian producer-whose real name is Mic Newman-has gone on to release a handful of other records, tour the world, and even remix a song for LPH's co-owner/-founder, Jacques Renault. A followup to the 12" that started it all was always in order and it's with great pleasure that we finally present it to you now! Heartbreaker kicks off with its title track, a spooky, acid-tinged burner that gets the blood flowing. Following that is "Zero," a lighter and brighter tune that shuffles along with grace and a certain carefree aesthetic that evokes 80s synth pop. On the flip, Fantastic Man returns to the darkness with "Keep Out," a sinister house cut that slowly, patiently boils, bubbles, and stews over the course of six-and-a-half minutes. The EP concludes with a fidgety, swirling remix of "Keep Out" by Suzanne Kraft, flush with modular synth noodlings and jams.

For their sixth release, Let's Play House has headed Down Under to scoop up Australia's Fantastic Man, a second identity of DJ/producer Mic Newman, with which the Melbourne-based artist explores-and exposes-another side of his musical and stylistic skills. And the four original songs on the It's Essential EP most definitely mark a bit of a departure from Newman's trademark sounds: he's exchanged the thumping, peak-hour, hands-in-the-air chaos and messiness of hits like 2009's "Sizzled Sally" for a more refined and subtle breed of deep house. The title track is crafted around a swinging keyboard line, horn samples, and jazz combo drum breaks. That's not to say it isn't made for the club-the throbbing bass line is hooky and infectious and will keep a crowd grooving all night long. "Wie Gehts" runs with the aesthetic of "It's Essential" a bit further, though instead of a keyboard riff, it builds around a smooth, ear-tickling guitar melody and a sultry vocal. The flip begins with the chillest tune of the bunch-"Sanctuary"-which certainly lives up to its name. This time, Newman springboards off a charming, dreamy piano line he underscores with an acoustic bass line and warm toms. Atop it all he spreads a thick layer of buttery synth warbles, making the track all the more magical and enchanting. Then "Scenic Route" kicks in and the decidedly clubby Mic Newman returns, although this time we're meeting him at 4 AM instead of midnight. The jam plods along with a deliberate yet stripped-down stride that's filled out with glistening synth stabs and a persistent hi-hat-driven beat. Finally, the song folds into itself, as though it's buckled under the strain of heavy eyelids and weakened muscles from a long night on the town.

world. On this road that led through water, air and over earth - music was a constant companion. Alike

dense and vibrant, than again full of space with lots of room to breathe - always in some sort of trance,
following a natural flow. We found the music to be deep, enriching and full of surprises, just like life

Soon after the release in 2022 of a triple album dedicated to electronic language, Principles of Geometry continues their orbiting journey that began exactly 20 years ago with "Penta," a Maxi composed of five electro-geometric vignettes that confirm what we already knew: the discreet French duo pilots one of the most underestimated projects in European IDM.
By returning just one year after a massive fifth album (26 tracks), Principles of Geometry makes a clear artistic move: shifting from electronic language unfolded on ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ to gesture, as one would associate intellect with manual, actions with words. On "Penta," to be visualized as the five fingers of a hand sketching the immediate and spontaneous pleasure of a hand pressing a chord, Guillaume Grosso and Jeremy Duval thus combine two essential concepts of their electronic music: the need to make the listener dance with their brains, and to touch with their mental images.
With nods to the godfathers of the genre (Autechre and Boards of Canada) or crossing paths with Aphex Twin in a Michael Mann film, "Penta" is therefore a beauty of gesture first conceived with the fingers, and without the need for words to evoke either the romance or the violence of a chord on a Roland Juno 60.
Mastered by the legend Noel Summerville (Boards of Canada, Kraftwerk, My Bloody Valentine) and designed by Ian Anderson of The Designers Republic (responsible for the graphics of the cult WipEout and many collaborations with the Warp label), this Maxi is therefore listened to as much as a recreational return to the future of the 90s as it is a concise summary of the equilateral career of Principles of Geometry; equally distant between pure emotion and the need to ponder the notes played in this very special ship.

RELEASE INFO:
The phrase “concept album” brings to mind long and complicated works by 60s rock bands or rap magna opera destined to be
pored over by Dissect podcast. But what if the concept is based on a simple conceit? With Refreshing Part 1, their third EP and
first vinyl release on Tresor, Fireground soundtrack an imaginary night spent at the Kraftwerk building on Köpenicker Straße,
moving between the smoke-filled basement of Tresor and the bass-heavy loft of Globus.
Opening piece, Never Sleep, has long been a feature of the Fireground live set and evolved over many months before reaching
its final form in something of a “eureka” moment during a performance in Tresor. The track kicks o the EP with a hint to
techno classic Knights of the Jaguar before quickly carving its own path through the foliage. The tribal leitmotif continues on
second track, Gaze, which again has subtle nods to classics whilst showcasing the duo’s ability to bring new life to 90s house
and techno tropes.
Obsession dispenses with any pretence and gets right down to business from the opening second: Inspired by the Tresor
dancefloor “when it reaches its peak; the strobe lights together with the smoke become so intense that for a few moments
you can't see anything and completely abandon yourself to your sense of hearing.”
A counterpoint to the finessed Never Sleep, Obsession was recorded live with minimal post-production this track finds
Fireground at their rawest and most uncompromising.
As if needing a spot of fresh air after the ferocity of Obsession, the second half of the EP leaves the dense and smoky
atmosphere behind and ascends towards the sky beginning with Driving Stars; lighter though this may be there’s no loss of
drive. Penultimate track Into a Diamond finds Fireground floating ever-upwards propelled by elements of jazz including a
gorgeous electric piano solo that recall the airy mid-90s UK house of labels like Nuphonic, Heavenly, Faze Action, and Soma.
Digital-only track, Wedding, closes the EP with the perfect end-of-night feeling, leaving us joyful, as if we are stepping out
into the morning sun surrounded by close friends, the sounds of the evening orbiting our minds. More

The Ghia saga unfolds once more, but in this chapter, there's a new and unique twist. "Out of Luck" draws its roots from a previously lost track, originally composed by the group in 1985. This time around, the song has been expertly reworked by Marian Tone, with new vocals by Adriano Prestel. The outcome? Quite possibly one of the smoothest and most refreshing modern funk tunes you'll hear this year.
But let's rewind to the beginning of this adventure: Earlier this year, DJ Scientist stumbled upon another early Ghia composition tucked away in the depths of a master tape. It was a treasure too precious to remain unheard. Sadly, the original track couldn't see the light of day due to sound quality and issues with the original vocals. To make matters more disappointing, no instrumental version survived. Thus, the only way to share this catchy boogie funk track with the world was to recreate it from scratch.
