Its been almost a year since our Robsoul brother Chris Carrier unveiled new music on the label. After recent remix and release forays on Hot Creations, Cuttin’ Headz and his own Adult Only imprint, Mr Consistent is back with a trio of hot new jams. With its familiar screams and bumping bassline, title track ‘Plastic Dance’ sets the trend as its tickled ivories and snatched snares create a dancefloor commotion. ‘Hoverbike,' with its future facing title, actually presents crisp classic sounds wrapped in a haze of floating filters. A track that will draw even the most reluctant groovers to the dancefloor. For those still holding out, Chris also drops a bass-heavy Dub version to give them an extra nudge.

The always trustworthy Sound Carrier label steps back into the limelight to hit us with another fix of quality techno from monsieur Chris Carrier. The Parisian producer never stops making music, and he presents three new extra terrestrial cuts here on this latest instalment from his excellent label. The story here is about two powerful intergalactic beings who discover that they have been lied to by their leaders - there are no magic mushrooms, just a forest of poisoned ones. They have laid down their arms to discuss this despicable turn of events… Track one is a rolling slice of analogue techno with acid licks and squelches bubbling away at its core. Named ‘Cat’s Eye Nebula’ it sucks us in to an interplanetary vortex, with cosmic FX transporting to the interior of a spaceship, while the beats give the feeling of a bumpy ride into the cosmos. This is followed by the more composed solemnity of ‘Galactus’. Shuffling beats slide over a funky bassline, the outer space theme continues with Carrier implementing a series of manipulated sounds which convey the feeling of futuristic machinery, blinking dashboards or robots communicating with one another.
Finally, we have ‘Dark Poison’, the inspiration behind the whole EP. More deep 303 vibes on this with a simmering analogue riff, percussion which increases in intensity alongside several layers of melodramatic effects, high-pitched twinkles and chimes which really add to the tension

Last seen on Robsoul Jazz back in April with his wonderfully unique and creative long-player ‘Green Age’, our longest and dearest collaborator Mr Chris Carrier is back to close out 2016 with a fresh selection of straight up house gems. First choice is the sweat inducing Philly flava of ‘Fever Tree’. Showering us in ’70’s glitter with its timeless vocal and low-slung bass. Following and flexing its funk is ‘To The Wonder’ with its filtered strings and vocal, garnished with piercing beams of sound and fx. On the flip Chris opens with the warping piano, sultry sax and skittish snare work of the aptly titled ‘Feel Good Tonight’, before dropping some warehouse chops with the weighty bass growl of ‘Inside’, closing yet another essential Carrier crop for your record box.

The last Sound Carrier was based around the notion of intrepid intergalactic explorers trying to get to earth, this time we’re taken 10,000 leagues below the surface to trawl the deep sea. All the way down there, we experience increased pressure, sub-zero temperatures, darkness and previously undiscovered new worlds. Up first we have ‘Lactarius Indigo Mission’, which has a distinct urgency and ‘in-your-face’ bitch slap percussion. The bassline writhes under a variety of squelchy, bleepy effects, which add a layer of depth and the whole thing feels quite ‘electro’. After that ‘From The Space To The Sea’ continues the electro vibes with more punchy beats, a rugged b-line and heavyweight kicks. Carrier’s use of quirky details give this track a unique character and contagious energy.On the other side we’re treated to another strange Carrier creation, the laidback ‘Kepler 22b’. Named after the first known planet to orbit a sun within what’s known as a ‘habitable zone’, Kepler 22b could well support life. The track is serene and full of optimism, a fitting soundtrack for a distant Earth-like planet. Minimal workout ‘Diver Level 1000’ closes the EP with its unusual arrangement and simple yet deadly programming. Another addition to the impressive Sound Carrier catalogue and perhaps its most leftfield so far… More

Chris Carrier delivers a box of steaming fresh hot techno jams with the latest release from his trusty Adult Only sub-label, Sound Carrier. Over the last five years he has dropped five EPs on the label, with this marking Sound Carrier’s sixth outing. As usual, the sounds here are a little more entrenched in the techno sound ethic. ‘Cosmic Road’ is the first of four that take us on a journey out into space, the final frontier… As the name suggests, we’re propelled up into the stars, encouraged to let go of our Earth-bound outlook and travel far away beyond Saturn’s rings. Smooth pads form a cosmic choir with bright flecks of synth, dancing around a jaunty bassline. Amazing. ‘Space Nation’ then strips things back, coming through with that minimal vibe. The rhythm is steppy, chugging along with mysterious intent. On the other side we take ‘Refuge On Earth’ with a 303-led trip back to our home planet. Here we are comforted by the familiar sound of that Roland machine, while the percussion slaps and claps away like the firecracker sound of a machine gun. Last up, ‘Holidays On Mars’ drifts in with an bright, optimistic feeling permeating throughout. See you at Orion’s Belt for a boogie!...

Its been just over a year since we brought you the fantastic ‘Inner Activist’ ep from our brother Chris. Crazy right? The fact that all three tracks became mainstays for many over the past twelve months is testament, yet again, to the talent of Mr. Carrier. We never leave home without him. Magic Gallery sees Chris displaying yet more his own musical sorcery. Opening with the soulful tones of Fantasy Faces we’re soon thrust into the serious drum workout of Stories. With Lomdit EP we have arrived at Levi Verspeeks 3rd solo record. Three times a charm and so it will be when it crashes onto the dancefloor with tech triumph Tamtam named after an unknown friend. 2nd track Octo's slick, oozing groove sees right through you and pillages the floor with metal percussion. No later than 6 and a half minutes after you will be met by God's choir singing it's chorus: We Smell Sausage. Watch out that you don't get dipped by that foxy break halfway through! Knock knock. Dutch label SlapFunk - a loose collective of DJs and producers dedicated to the rougher end of deep house - has decided to push the boat out for this fourth installment in the popular Raw Joints series. This time, they've expanded from one 12" to two, packing in no less than eight tracks, all of which bristle with heavy drum machine rhythms, fuzzy textures, and basslines that make you want to strut your stuff. Interestingly, there's a strong garage influence on some of the stand-out tracks - see the warped basslines, skipping drums and industrial electronics of U Know The Drill's "Back On It", and the two-step shuffle of Stooge Wilson and Otmar Haze's "Not Your Average Phonecall" - while Locklead does a convincing impersonation of Omar-S on the excellent "Keep Going".

Having established DeepSystems as a radio show some years back, Matt Pond (one third of the BitterSuite collective) has decided to launch a record label under the same name. Given his contacts, it's a smart move. Two close pals - BitterSuite member Jon Gray and Dan '1Dan' Rodgers - join forces as Tales Ov Rossi, laying down a slowly shifting chunk of deep, heads-down tech-house that stretches across one side of the 12". On the flip, Gray goes solo under the BitterSuite banner, delivering the two-part "Familiar Currents". Both versions sound heavily inspired by the dense percussion, expansive musicality and rich soundscapes of Ron Trent. It's a comparison that Gray will no doubt enjoy.
