Its been almost a year since our Robsoul brother Chris Carrier unveiled new music on the label. After recent remix and release forays on Hot Creations, Cuttin’ Headz and his own Adult Only imprint, Mr Consistent is back with a trio of hot new jams. With its familiar screams and bumping bassline, title track ‘Plastic Dance’ sets the trend as its tickled ivories and snatched snares create a dancefloor commotion. ‘Hoverbike,' with its future facing title, actually presents crisp classic sounds wrapped in a haze of floating filters. A track that will draw even the most reluctant groovers to the dancefloor. For those still holding out, Chris also drops a bass-heavy Dub version to give them an extra nudge.

The always trustworthy Sound Carrier label steps back into the limelight to hit us with another fix of quality techno from monsieur Chris Carrier. The Parisian producer never stops making music, and he presents three new extra terrestrial cuts here on this latest instalment from his excellent label. The story here is about two powerful intergalactic beings who discover that they have been lied to by their leaders - there are no magic mushrooms, just a forest of poisoned ones. They have laid down their arms to discuss this despicable turn of events… Track one is a rolling slice of analogue techno with acid licks and squelches bubbling away at its core. Named ‘Cat’s Eye Nebula’ it sucks us in to an interplanetary vortex, with cosmic FX transporting to the interior of a spaceship, while the beats give the feeling of a bumpy ride into the cosmos. This is followed by the more composed solemnity of ‘Galactus’. Shuffling beats slide over a funky bassline, the outer space theme continues with Carrier implementing a series of manipulated sounds which convey the feeling of futuristic machinery, blinking dashboards or robots communicating with one another.
Finally, we have ‘Dark Poison’, the inspiration behind the whole EP. More deep 303 vibes on this with a simmering analogue riff, percussion which increases in intensity alongside several layers of melodramatic effects, high-pitched twinkles and chimes which really add to the tension

Last seen on Robsoul Jazz back in April with his wonderfully unique and creative long-player ‘Green Age’, our longest and dearest collaborator Mr Chris Carrier is back to close out 2016 with a fresh selection of straight up house gems. First choice is the sweat inducing Philly flava of ‘Fever Tree’. Showering us in ’70’s glitter with its timeless vocal and low-slung bass. Following and flexing its funk is ‘To The Wonder’ with its filtered strings and vocal, garnished with piercing beams of sound and fx. On the flip Chris opens with the warping piano, sultry sax and skittish snare work of the aptly titled ‘Feel Good Tonight’, before dropping some warehouse chops with the weighty bass growl of ‘Inside’, closing yet another essential Carrier crop for your record box.

The last Sound Carrier was based around the notion of intrepid intergalactic explorers trying to get to earth, this time we’re taken 10,000 leagues below the surface to trawl the deep sea. All the way down there, we experience increased pressure, sub-zero temperatures, darkness and previously undiscovered new worlds. Up first we have ‘Lactarius Indigo Mission’, which has a distinct urgency and ‘in-your-face’ bitch slap percussion. The bassline writhes under a variety of squelchy, bleepy effects, which add a layer of depth and the whole thing feels quite ‘electro’. After that ‘From The Space To The Sea’ continues the electro vibes with more punchy beats, a rugged b-line and heavyweight kicks. Carrier’s use of quirky details give this track a unique character and contagious energy. On the other side we’re treated to another strange Carrier creation, the laidback ‘Kepler 22b’. Named after the first known planet to orbit a sun within what’s known as a ‘habitable zone’, Kepler 22b could well support life. The track is serene and full of optimism, a fitting soundtrack for a distant Earth-like planet. Minimal workout ‘Diver Level 1000’ closes the EP with its unusual arrangement and simple yet deadly programming. Another addition to the impressive Sound Carrier catalogue and perhaps its most leftfield so far…

Chris Carrier delivers a box of steaming fresh hot techno jams with the latest release from his trusty Adult Only sub-label, Sound Carrier. Over the last five years he has dropped five EPs on the label, with this marking Sound Carrier’s sixth outing. As usual, the sounds here are a little more entrenched in the techno sound ethic. ‘Cosmic Road’ is the first of four that take us on a journey out into space, the final frontier… As the name suggests, we’re propelled up into the stars, encouraged to let go of our Earth-bound outlook and travel far away beyond Saturn’s rings. Smooth pads form a cosmic choir with bright flecks of synth, dancing around a jaunty bassline. Amazing. ‘Space Nation’ then strips things back, coming through with that minimal vibe. The rhythm is steppy, chugging along with mysterious intent. On the other side we take ‘Refuge On Earth’ with a 303-led trip back to our home planet. Here we are comforted by the familiar sound of that Roland machine, while the percussion slaps and claps away like the firecracker sound of a machine gun. Last up, ‘Holidays On Mars’ drifts in with an bright, optimistic feeling permeating throughout. See you at Orion’s Belt for a boogie!...

The fact that all three tracks became mainstays for many over the past twelve months is testament, yet again, to the talent of Mr. Carrier. We never leave home without him. Magic Gallery sees Chris displaying yet more his own musical sorcery. Opening with the soulful tones of Fantasy Faces we’re soon thrust into the serious drum workout of Stories. The choppy beats and sliced samples of Warlock follow before the EP is closed, in the finest fashion, by the spellbinding title track itself. Another strong and essential collection of house tools from Chris Carrier.

Launched in 2010, Sound Carrier is a sub-label of Chris Carrier’s highly-respected Adult Only label. Now on its fifth release, Sound Carrier has been set up as an outlet for techno-infused beats and ‘Disque Radioactif’ is a perfect representation of that sound ethos. With four original tracks from Chris Carrier, this new EP is based around the original Detroit vibe, with a hint of acid. The tracks all take their titles from famous nuclear devices, giving the music a foreboding overtone. RDS-1’ was the first weapon developed by the Russians during the arms race of the early 20th Century. The track is deep, driving and morose yet full of life. ‘Trinity’ was the codename of the very first nuclear test in 1945, this track is a shivering acid beast, minimal and absorbing. ‘BWR 3’ takes its name from one of the reactors at the doomed Fukushima plant; subtle elements of funk flow through this restrained number. Lastly comes ‘Chicago Pile 1’, the world’s first ever nuclear reactor, and a track that embodies the ominous possibilities of such an invention.

Eddie Leader has had his most productive year since releasing his first record under the Slum Science alias in 2004. Leader has delivered music on labels like Jovonn’s Body n’ Deep, Doorly’s Reptile Dysfunction, the iconic Hard Times label and his own Hudd Traxx in the past 12 months, most recently collaborating with Chez Damier on ‘Pressure’. This record is by far the deepest of them all. ‘Lost in…’ kicks things off and takes you on a deep hypnotic journey along the house spectrum. ‘The Unknown’ has a raw and underground vibe with a heavy bass line and takes inspiration from both Chicago & Detroit. The Tribal Manifestation Mix of ‘The Unknown' picks up the tempo on the B side for a peak time dancefloor rework. Eddie closes out the EP with ‘You’, which is a smooth vocal infused early hours future classic. Hudd Traxx have also had a very productive year and there’s still more to come in 2023.

A moment in time. A casual afterhours jam with friends. Out of which something special comes together. The story behind Hudd Traxx label head Eddie Leader’s new single is one that begins with a rescue mission. Driving from his base in Manchester to London, to collect a stranded Chez Damier, due to a cancelled flight, and deliver him to his gig in Manchester that same night. Old friends, on a mission and putting the world to rights on their way. Post gig, deep in merriment, and having given way to the lure of the machines, both Eddie, Chez & Tomson spent time jamming in the studio, recording vocals from which came the classic track 'I Am With You'. Until very recently the remaining stems and ideas were locked, but never forgotten, in the Hudd Traxx archives. Late last year Leader dusted them off and set to work on crafting a new single…. Pressure. Pressure was born from a distinct lack of. A factor that radiates from the speakers as Leader crafts an unhurried and simple groove, built upon a warm bassline and glistening Ivory chords, all garnished by Chez, featuring under his Kids In The Streets alias, with his soulful vocal delivery.

The spectrum-spanning archive of Hudd Traxx grows at pace, and having rolled out jams from legends of the game on Hudd Influences Vol. 1, Eddie Leader’s acclaimed Manchester based imprint now hands a full debut to rising star… DFRA. From label fan to label artist, Buenos Aires-based Colombian, Diego Ruiz, first featured on 2019’s ‘Out Of Order : Volume 3’ with ‘I Am House’. His new ‘Blue Horizon’ EP confirms that statement, as we’re presented with a trio of beautifully tailored tracks, highlighting a producer who is comfortable in his craft. The shimmer and bump of the title track, evokes scenes of sun, sea and bodies moving in rhythm. A theme that runs throughout, as the perspiring vibes of ‘Hold Me’ roll us into the club with its warm bass, pulsing keys and vocal, while final cut ‘Fallin’’ with its hypnotic swing and thumping kick takes us deeper into the night. Adding a final peak to the package is Real Tone boss, Franck Roger. Vocal flourishes, echoing keys and that renowned golden touch from the Frenchman round out this superb debut from DFRA.

Agnès - Common Dissectors
Lovers of fabulously swung, nice ‘n chunky house music have a treat in store on Hudd Traxx 066 as Swiss producer Agnès makes a very welcome, vinyl only return to our label. Much-loved for his stripped back and dubby style - with previous EP “Got That Music In My Mind” championed by Disclosure on their Mixmag mix - here we witness the Sthlmaudio Recordings founder loosening up with four shoulder-rolling rides of deep house greatness which commemorates his and Eddie Leader’s tour of South America in 2013/14. It’s the first new material we’ve heard from the producer since his 2016 EP “Accent Grave” and the track “Embryonic Connections” off our 15th year anniversary collection released early in the year. Effortless in construction, with the genre’s classic tropes of poking organs, sub-tickling bass, rich atmospheres and cheeky, playful vocal samples littered throughout; the EP’s real beauty comes across in Agnès’ unfathomable grasp of swing and shuffle, instantly injecting listeners with a fidgety energy and need to dance. His percussion sounds fizz, pop and crack in a manner that’d make Kerri Chandler blush while neon-hued pads glue the whole thing together with a radioactive warmth. Chuck in an almost shamanic level of dancefloor understanding & connectivity and what you have here is a breakthrough dose of unrivalled hedonism. There’s a sophisticated simplicity and sympathy at work here; with a reduced, hard-hitting and well thought out sound palette connecting the tracks together with the same impassioned spirit. That fiery flame of a basement and a red light, encapsulated perfectly and destined to rouse the spirits of house heads across world this Autumn…

Celebrating a determined and ambitious 15 year tenure as Yorkshire’s chief bastion of deep house music, Hudd Traxx enlist a who’s who from their gilded halls to contribute tunes for a special anniversary release. Split across two vinyl parts and an expansive digital release, it’s a pretty prestigious occasion featuring dance music legends Nightmares On Wax & Jovonn, long term label stalwarts Iron Curtis & JT Donaldson, a guest appearance from Mark Hawkins (FKA Marquis Hawkes) and a track from label head Eddie Leader. Adding to the already weighty credentials are Agnès (releasing his first material since 2013), Berlin-via-Italy producer Black Loops. On Part Two longstanding Hudd Traxx veteran JT Donaldson drops “What I Got” - twisting and contorting throughout its duration, a serpentine roller rich with block party flavour and the very essence of deep house coursing through its veins. Dixon Avenue Basement Jams’ Mark Hawkins does some moonlighting under his newly deed-polled alias with the epically beautifully “Chasing Paper”. No royalty credits heading north of the border here, just swathes of satisfied revellers and euphoric dancefloors guaranteed upon delivery. Meanwhile, another Hudd Traxx regular, Iron Curtis, pays tribute to one of the scene’s greatest on “Kerri On (Chandelier Dub)”. A red-lit nocturnal jam that Mr. Chandler himself has rubber stamped, its ever-growing bassline, soaring strings and delicately placed keys taking us towards a seriously blissful conclusion. Concluding part 2 is a track by Agnès - founder of Sthlmaudio Recordings. The stylish Swiss keeps true to his remit – deep, dubby, transcendent grooves that sway lushly with the midnight air. “Embryonic Connections” taking us right back to the roots of that tribal beat and a fitting end to this mammoth release and a perfect lead up to his forthcoming Hudd EP. 4 tracks which perfectly instil why Hudd started this label of love 15 years ago; to showcase fierce, uncompromising dancefloor workouts in as sincere and stylish manner as possible. The artists and tracks chosen show the adventurous routes and development the label keep as their main point of focus – to unearth the tantalizing new and exciting sounds of house music’s continuous evolution.

Eddie Leader - There's A Time
A triumphant return for Eddie Leader and his proudly homegrown, fiercely independent imprint, Hudd Traxx. Revelling in the continuous cross pollination of dance music between the US & the UK, the label’s meticulously curated output, undeniably strong signings and creatively pertinent style has made it a go-to stable for house music lovers across the globe over its 15 year inception. Eddie’s first solo offerings for the label for five years, following on from inspired and club-ready collaborations with Chez Damier, Tomson & the Classic label. Loosing none of the dancefloor functionality championed across its previous releases, Hudd 063 enlists the vocal talents of Alexander East on lead track – “Get You Alone” – a sparkly, buoyant and amorous mid-session track that drives deep through wupp’ing pads and a direct, kick-heavy beat. And while the seductively lucid vocals of East attempt to coax you onto the mattresses, this beast refuses to leave the club, bucking hard right thru till the end. There’s a tasty ‘instrumental’ handily included in the digital package too, just in case Alexander’s vox gets you too hot under the collar… “Respect” follows, leading with an elementary but nonetheless poignant vocal refrain. With a tuff, almost New Jersey energy to it, highly advanced kinetics power this bad boy forward; the well-tested system of vintage drum boxes working overtime alongside detuned keys, space-age synth swirls and a rugged, box busting bassline. Nods to Peacefrog, Rick Wade and Glenn Underground adorn, “Drum March” – a track so shuffled to buggery you’ll be forgiven for falling over on first listen. Littered with expertly programmed shakers, woodblocks and swung snares whilst finely decorated with some exquisite lead lines and a complimenting patina of optimistic organ notes. The very essence of deep house musica –unostentatious & deeply grooving. “There’s A Time” hovers between its solid bass and drum foundations via a taut and scintillating synth array as an evocative speech is mined from recent events. A unifying message wrapped up for the dancefloor when the whole world needs it most, it’s again characterized by an unbeatable grasp of rhythm utilizing gripping, Chicago-indebted drum sequencing. Quite obviously crafted with a virtuosic yet humble hand; these rooted house cuts devoid of superfluity and languishing in pure body motion are exactly what the town crier will be ordering when the doors of our dancing establishments open once more. Feasts for the feet whilst consciously acknowledging the very corner stones of house music’s underground, embryonic beginnings. Top drawer tackle from start to finish.

As Hudd Traxx approach their 15th anniversary year, Iron Curtis steps up for a mini album split in 2 parts. As a long-time label collaborator and friend, it’s no surprise that Curtis delivers his 5th and 6th EP for the label. Total Art Of Living contains straight up house jams, hints of techno, nods to broken beat, references to Detroit and a few interludes for good measure. These new cuts are further proof that Iron Curtis music has always celebrated the deepest foundations of house and all its varieties, whilst resolutely refusing to get nostalgic. Curtis’ previous 4 Hudd EPs have gone on to be classics, Total Art Of Living has all the ingredients to become a future classic too. TRACK LISTING: A1. Everything's Alright, A2. Lately, B1. SPX3, B2. Iron Curtis serves up another 4 tracks for Lights EP - Part 2. Well Well Well kicks things off nicely with a heavy sub bass, hypnotic keys and slick beats to boot. See Ya is a cleverly worked head nodder, perfect for early night or morning vibes. Curtis takes things to a deeper level on the B side with Salvation and the uber classy Spectral, which is reminscent of Mr Larry Heards early works. A great way to close out this 2 part EP on Iron Curtis' regular label Hudd Traxx.I

Rhythm Plate released one of the best releases on Hudd Traxx in 2007, half of RP returns under the guise of Goshawk for Hudd 055. Matt brings Astral T back with him for the A1 track and 'My Heart' certainly gives 'Inside Me' a run for it's money. Warm Chords, lush vocals and slick beats are all laid down to perfection to kick off the EP in fine style.A2 follows the deep tones set on A1 with the wonderful 'High In The Evergreens. The B Side kicks off in a more upbeat style with 'Yes In This Way' which would fit nicely in a Derrick Carter peak time set. Goshawk finishes off with a cheeky garage number that is reminiscent of Grant Nelson's early work on Nice n ' Ripe which can only be a good thing.

The 4th and final part of Hudd Traxx 10th Anniversary series comes from Ekkohaus, Mihai Popoviciu, Rio Padice & JT Donaldson. Previous parts featured tracks from the likes of Chez Damier, Agnes, Iron Curtis & Luna City Express. Part 4 keeps the high standards that Hudd have set and Ekkohaus steps up to open proceedings. 'Modest Fun' is a peak time house cut with a big sub bass, shuffling hats and lush keys to boot. Mihai Popoviciu's 'Two Minutes Ago' plays a hypnotic Xylophone hook mixed with the dreamy vocal chant of 'Don't stop, let's go' to round off the 'Now' side in a classy fashion. Rio Padice & JT Donaldson close out the EP on the 'Then' side being 2 of the label's biggest sellers to date. Hudd Traxx have been swamped with requests for a repress of Rio Padice's 'Dirty Belvedere' so it was a no brainer for this to make the cut. JT Donaldson's 'Just Bounce' was played by any DJ worth their salt in 2009, and it's clear to see why, as once you've listened once, it goes on repeat a good few times. A great way to close out this 4 Part 10th Anniversary series.

Hudd Traxx 3rd installment of their 10th Anniversary series comes from Eddie Leader, Hector Moralez, Washerman, Brett Johnson & Rhythm Plate. Label owner Eddie Leader delivers a deep & moody house groover with the slick vocals of long time Hudd Artist Hector Moralez, aptly title 'Way Back'. Washerman picks the pace up with 'Twilite', which is reminiscent of legendary Detroit label Underground Resistance, and adds to the continued diversity of this project. Brett Johnson's 'Mr Smarty Pants' is re-released after gaining plays from the likes of Laurent Garnier and an edit by Dyed Soundorom. Closing out the EP are 2 of the most underrated Producers in the business; Rhythm Plate. 'Keep Moving' was Overshadowed by 'Inside Me' on the 'Robbin Hudd EP' in 2007 but is given it's time to shine on 'Now & Then Part 3' and is a fine addition to the 10 Year celebrations.

The second part in the Hudd Traxx 10th Anniversary 'Now & Then' compilation sees tracks from Luna City Express, Sek, Iz & Diz and Rick Wade. Berlin duo Luna City Express serve up a lush deep house groove that builds throughout the track, and will bring a smile to the faces of those who follow them on their beloved Moon Habour Recordings. Sek uses slick beats, trippy leads, a driving bassline and some 'Thug life' vocals to ensure this one has 'future classic' written all over it. Go back in time (to 2006 to be precise) on the 'Then' side to find Iz & Diz's 'Happy'. The words 'epic' & 'journey' are often misused in music but both can be mentioned about this track. It had devastating effect on first release and is set to do the same again nearly 10 years later. Rick Wade closes things out in fine style to fly the Detroit flag on an all Chicago / Detroit side.

Hudd Traxx celebrate their 10th Anniversary and 50th Release in style with a 4 part Compilation called 'Now & Then'. The first part includes tracks from Chez Damier, Tomson, Agnes & Iron Curtis. Over the years Hudd have released music from the likes of Matthew Herbert, DJ Sneak, Rolando, Rick Wade, Iz & Diz, JT Donaldson and a whole load more. The concept behind the release celebrates both new & classic tracks on the 'Now' & 'Then' sides respectively. Man of the moment Tomson kicks things off with a typically straight up House number entitled 'On The Buttons', and definitely is right on them with this one. Chicago legend Chez Damier steps up to the plate next with an Epic Deep House groover with elements of soulful Jazz, which will be well received for those late night or early morning sets. Flip for the 'Then' Side & find 2 Classic tracks with Agnes remix of 'The Bass' & Iron Curtis' 'You Are'. Both still sound as good as they did on their initial release, and prove that buying Hudd Traxx music now will still sound as fresh in another 10 Years time.
