Chris Carrier’s brings us the latest installment from his ever-trusty Adult Only label, with a firecracker from Julian Alexander, a rudeboy from Holland, Utrecht to be precise. Julian’s close ties with Slapfunk Records, the label that released Carrier’s most recent artist album, make him the perfect candidate to captain this new release, which is full of murky grooves and simmering energy. Across three tracks Julian brings encapsulates that Adult Only flavour, kicking off with ‘Butress Roots’ a bass-heavy roller with an eerie overtone and a minimal make-up – watch out for the extended breakdown, it will send shivers down your spine. Up after that we have ‘XY’ a more up-tempo, bouncing, dance floor destroyer. Major vibes on this one. With Lomdit EP we have arrived at Levi Verspeeks 3rd solo record. Three times a charm and so it will be when it crashes onto the dancefloor with tech triumph Tamtam named after an unknown friend. 2nd track Octo's slick, oozing groove sees right through you and pillages the floor with metal percussion. Dutch label SlapFunk - a loose collective of DJs and producers dedicated to the rougher end of deep house - has decided to push the boat out for this fourth installment in the popular Raw Joints series. This time, they've expanded from one 12" to two, packing in no less than eight tracks, all of which bristle with heavy drum machine rhythms, fuzzy textures, and basslines that make you want to strut your stuff. Interestingly, there's a strong garage influence on some of the stand-out tracks - see the warped basslines, skipping drums and industrial electronics of U Know The Drill's "Back On It", and the two-step shuffle of Stooge Wilson and Otmar Haze's "Not Your Average Phonecall" - while Locklead does a convincing impersonation of Omar-S on the excellent "Keep Going".

Having established DeepSystems as a radio show some years back, Matt Pond (one third of the BitterSuite collective) has decided to launch a record label under the same name. Given his contacts, it's a smart move. Two close pals - BitterSuite member Jon Gray and Dan '1Dan' Rodgers - join forces as Tales Ov Rossi, laying down a slowly shifting chunk of deep, heads-down tech-house that stretches across one side of the 12". On the flip, Gray goes solo under the BitterSuite banner, delivering the two-part "Familiar Currents". Both versions sound heavily inspired by the dense percussion, expansive musicality and rich soundscapes of Ron Trent. It's a comparison that Gray will no doubt enjoy.
