Its been almost a year since our Robsoul brother Chris Carrier unveiled new music on the label. After recent remix and release forays on Hot Creations, Cuttin’ Headz and his own Adult Only imprint, Mr Consistent is back with a trio of hot new jams. With its familiar screams and bumping bassline, title track ‘Plastic Dance’ sets the trend as its tickled ivories and snatched snares create a dancefloor commotion. ‘Hoverbike,' with its future facing title, actually presents crisp classic sounds wrapped in a haze of floating filters. A track that will draw even the most reluctant groovers to the dancefloor. For those still holding out, Chris also drops a bass-heavy Dub version to give them an extra nudge.

The always trustworthy Sound Carrier label steps back into the limelight to hit us with another fix of quality techno from monsieur Chris Carrier. The Parisian producer never stops making music, and he presents three new extra terrestrial cuts here on this latest instalment from his excellent label. The story here is about two powerful intergalactic beings who discover that they have been lied to by their leaders - there are no magic mushrooms, just a forest of poisoned ones. They have laid down their arms to discuss this despicable turn of events… Track one is a rolling slice of analogue techno with acid licks and squelches bubbling away at its core. Named ‘Cat’s Eye Nebula’ it sucks us in to an interplanetary vortex, with cosmic FX transporting to the interior of a spaceship, while the beats give the feeling of a bumpy ride into the cosmos. This is followed by the more composed solemnity of ‘Galactus’. Shuffling beats slide over a funky bassline, the outer space theme continues with Carrier implementing a series of manipulated sounds which convey the feeling of futuristic machinery, blinking dashboards or robots communicating with one another.
Finally, we have ‘Dark Poison’, the inspiration behind the whole EP. More deep 303 vibes on this with a simmering analogue riff, percussion which increases in intensity alongside several layers of melodramatic effects, high-pitched twinkles and chimes which really add to the tension

The last Sound Carrier was based around the notion of intrepid intergalactic explorers trying to get to earth, this time we’re taken 10,000 leagues below the surface to trawl the deep sea. All the way down there, we experience increased pressure, sub-zero temperatures, darkness and previously undiscovered new worlds. Up first we have ‘Lactarius Indigo Mission’, which has a distinct urgency and ‘in-your-face’ bitch slap percussion. The bassline writhes under a variety of squelchy, bleepy effects, which add a layer of depth and the whole thing feels quite ‘electro’. After that ‘From The Space To The Sea’ continues the electro vibes with more punchy beats, a rugged b-line and heavyweight kicks. Carrier’s use of quirky details give this track a unique character and contagious energy.On the other side we’re treated to another strange Carrier creation, the laidback ‘Kepler 22b’. Named after the first known planet to orbit a sun within what’s known as a ‘habitable zone’, Kepler 22b could well support life. The track is serene and full of optimism, a fitting soundtrack for a distant Earth-like planet. Minimal workout ‘Diver Level 1000’ closes the EP with its unusual arrangement and simple yet deadly programming. Another addition to the impressive Sound Carrier catalogue and perhaps its most leftfield so far… More

Chris Carrier delivers a box of steaming fresh hot techno jams with the latest release from his trusty Adult Only sub-label, Sound Carrier. Over the last five years he has dropped five EPs on the label, with this marking Sound Carrier’s sixth outing. As usual, the sounds here are a little more entrenched in the techno sound ethic. ‘Cosmic Road’ is the first of four that take us on a journey out into space, the final frontier… As the name suggests, we’re propelled up into the stars, encouraged to let go of our Earth-bound outlook and travel far away beyond Saturn’s rings. Smooth pads form a cosmic choir with bright flecks of synth, dancing around a jaunty bassline. Amazing. ‘Space Nation’ then strips things back, coming through with that minimal vibe. The rhythm is steppy, chugging along with mysterious intent. On the other side we take ‘Refuge On Earth’ with a 303-led trip back to our home planet. Here we are comforted by the familiar sound of that Roland machine, while the percussion slaps and claps away like the firecracker sound of a machine gun. Last up, ‘Holidays On Mars’ drifts in with an bright, optimistic feeling permeating throughout. See you at Orion’s Belt for a boogie!...

The fact that all three tracks became mainstays for many over the past twelve months is testament, yet again, to the talent of Mr. Carrier. We never leave home without him. Magic Gallery sees Chris displaying yet more his own musical sorcery. Opening with the soulful tones of Fantasy Faces we’re soon thrust into the serious drum workout of Stories. The choppy beats and sliced samples of Warlock follow before the EP is closed, in the finest fashion, by the spellbinding title track itself. Launched in 2010, Sound Carrier is a sub-label of Chris Carrier’s highly-respected Adult Only label. Now on its fifth release, Sound Carrier has been set up as an outlet for techno-infused beats and ‘Disque Radioactif’ is a perfect representation of that sound ethos.With four original tracks from Chris Carrier, this new EP is based around the original Detroit vibe, with a hint of acid. The tracks all take their titles from famous nuclear devices, giving the music a foreboding overtone. RDS-1’ was the first weapon developed by the Russians during the arms race of the early 20th Century. The track is deep, driving and morose yet full of life. ‘Trinity’ was the codename of the very first nuclear test in 1945, this track is a shivering acid beast, minimal and absorbing. ‘BWR 3’ takes its name from one of the reactors at the doomed Fukushima plant; subtle elements of funk flow through this restrained number. Lastly comes ‘Chicago Pile 1’, the world’s first ever nuclear reactor, and a track that embodies the ominous possibilities of such an invention.

Having brought us his Ladies Night EP back in March alongside partner in crime Bas Roos; Dutchman Chris Stussy returns to the fold. This time flying solo on his Nightdriver EP. Steering away from the sample-stacked party peakers of his previous outing, Stussy delivers a more subtle and refined four track selection that opens with the shuffle and smooth chords of 'Nightdriver'. The warm bass and glistening keys of 'Crate Diggin'' takes up the beat baton, before 'One Way' ups the ante with its insistent and irresistible groove. Summer's round the corner and Javi Bora & IAAM are back on Robsoul with a sizzling new soundtrack for the weeks ahead. Somewhat of a label regular, Javi makes his fourth Robsoul return, backing up EP’s in 2012, ’13 & ’14. He teams up with fellow Spaniard and regular sparring partner IAAM, as they follow up recent releases on Music For Freaks and Bauhaus with ’Tonight,' a four track party-starter of an EP. The drum-laden ‘Perklap-Style’ opens the EP and its raw energy is quickly followed by the filtered disco flavour of ’Tonight’. On the flip the funky feels continue with ‘I Just Can Feel’ as its classic sample calls for some choreographed roof raising. Finally, closing up is ‘Rolling Up,' a bass-heavy beat tool that brings a perfect end to Tonight. More

D’Julz’s ‘Ze Box’ Ep, his 2014 debut for Robsoul, remains one the labels most popular to date. Now, as the Frenchman and renowned House luminary embarks on what is already a landmark year personally; he returns to the label to follow up last years Edits outing with a sultry new selection of tracks on the ‘Foxxy’ Ep. 2017 signals the twentieth anniversary of D’Julz’s seminal Bass Culture club night at Rex Club in Paris. A celebration of a party born from frustration with his City’s scene, it went on to become one of the longest standing and most respected nights of a generation. Sharing the booth with just one invited artist each night, each playing extended sets, gave the Parisian a perfect outlet for perfecting his craft. Skills honed at those Bass Culture nights not only helped craft an enviable DJ style, but also influenced his talent in both a&r’ing for his Bass Culture record label and the production of his own music. The Foxxy Ep finds D’Julz in a playful mood. ‘Ze Fox’ opens up with its stretched filters, funky guitar lick and merry vocal. The jittery hats of ‘Big Kid’ follows with its disco loops and sunshine vibe delivering smiles for miles, making you, yeah, feel like a big kid. ’Next’ is the cute little heartbreaker that brings this Foxxy Ep to a close. Its rough, juddering and yet grooving bassline is matched with synth washes, piercing snares and bird calls to create a perfect finale to a perfect EP.
