Guy Andrews, - Hands In Mine
Following last year's triumphant debut on Untold's imprint Hemlock, Brighton based producer Guy Andrews is back with his first 12"
for Hotflush Recordings. A superb followup to his 2011 auditory missive, The Wait / Hands in Mine merges percussive elements with
heavy basslines resulting in two dark dancefloor cuts.
Shuffling and persistent, Side A is bass-driven track filled with arpeggiated goodness, while on the flip, Andrews shows off his ability
to manipulate genres by using a bass kick and frenzied rhythmic percussion to dial up an atmospheric tune.
With recent acclaim from XLR8R, Resident Advisor and Truants along with DJ and radio support from the likes of Benji B, L-Vis 1990,

Fresh from live performances at Bonobo’s Outlier festival, The Quietus stage at The Great Escape, and supporting Max Cooper, London-based production virtuoso Guy Andrews revisits his acclaimed debut album ‘Our Spaces’. Informed by audience reactions at these shows, he takes two of the LP’s standout tracks and reconfigures them for the dancefloor, with devastating results. Meanwhile two like-minded artists tackle the album’s lead single ‘In Autumn Arms’. Max Cooper crafts a formidable collage of IDM textures, with staccato beats punctuating the lilting guitar riff, whilst DJ Mag’s former ‘Best Breakthrough Producer’ Ben Pearce takes the track into the main room, turning in an elemental 4/4 floor-burner.

guy andrews - Let Your Shadow Decide
London-based producer Guy Andrews is renowned for creating textural electronic music, combining influences from post-rock, techno, ambient and afrobeat. After releasing on Hemlock, Hotflush and Pennyroyal, scoring for photographer Nadav Kander, and remixing Massive Attack’s Robert Del Naja, he makes his Houndstooth debut with ‘In Autumn Arms’. On the title track, a simple guitar melody falls melancholically over a bed of synth loops and string ensemble, while snares and thundering drums meld with distortion to heighten the tension. ‘Let Your Shadow Decide’ is the A-side’s darker, downbeat counterpart, opening with tremolo strings and a weighty bass-line, while emphatic drums build toward the track’s climax. Although seemingly disparate, Guy’s use of wall-of-sound noise and softer strings is skilfully mixed, carried forward by the stark guitar lead. Cut and mastered by Matt Colton, the 7” single is pressed to dinked vinyl in autumnal orange, and limited to 300 copies worldwide.

Guy Andrews first appeared on Pennyroyal's parent label Hemlock with Shades / Textures in 2011, two cinematic and reflective UK techno tracks that earned him a loyal student fanbase. He returned to the wavering imprint in 2013 with the pounding tribal thumper 'Resistivity' and has since released an EP on Leeds based techno label Fina because his ex-manager thought it would be good to "Keep things moving." Since then Guy has been busy developing a unique 'career portfolio' including composing for film and television, launching a niche specialist winter sports fashion line and lifestyle channel 'Curl goth' and more recently founding a peer-to-peer lending co-operative and crypto-currency for exchanging controversial facts surrounding the National Trust. In-between these diverse activities Guy has channelled his inner spirit animal (Icelandic horse) to produce two monstrous yet boringly titled techno stormers: 'Ambient Track / Experiment 02' that are a natural fit for the Pennyroyal oeuvre/overdraft. His epic sound design and signature attention to detail remain intact; this time bolstered by reinforced metallic drums and clipped distortion. Mastered by Sam @ Precise Artwork by Richard Dunning

Guy Andrews has been a prominent name on the underground circuit as of late, racking up a reputable back catalogue with releases and remixes for the likes of Hotflush, Hemlock and The Vinyl Factory. Andrews has seen heavy support on the aforementioned singles from the likes of Lorca, The Black Dog and A1 Bassline, testament to his classy, understated take on house and techno. Here Guy joins the FINA Records roster, following a release from DFRNT, a striking indication of the attentive A&R approach of the label so far this year. The release opens with ‘Divide’, a brooding house cut employing punchy organic drums, smooth ethereal synthesizers and dubbed out chord progressions as its driving force. Andrews throws in a modern drawn-out bass hook to add a contemporary touch to the otherwise classic format, resulting in a classy, understated opener for the EP. Up next we have, ‘7AM’, embracing a similarly natural percussive edge, with rolling toms, heavily reverberated claps, and shakers taking the reins, while emotive melodies and bulbous low-end tones drive the musicality. First up on the B-Side is ‘Fixture’, taking on a more direct 4/4 approach with raw distorted drums, gritty electronic synth hooks and a blossoming atmospherics. The record builds in this state for several minutes, before Andrews reverts back to the punchy drum groove and hypnotic pads to tail things out. Lastly to close the EP Guy offers up ‘Tapes’, tipping the focus towards an off-kilter, deep aesthetic, with broken kicks, claps and shuffling hats, while swirling synths, vocal snippets and heavily delayed Rhodes build a profound depth around them.

Two tracks of brilliantly unpredictable, percussive wizardry with more twists than a season of the Killing 'Shades' combines of precision drum edits, killer 808 booms and woodblock percussion that will bring a tear of nostalgia to the eye of the Blue Note & Metalheadz vets and a smile to the face of the most discerning new dancefloors. 'Textures' on the flip kills it with an arrangement that just keeps you guessing. Perfectly poised between light & dark, delicate & heavy, and taking you seamlessly from locked 4/4 to dubbed out techno via all-out percussive funk and back before you

Set for release next month, Chris Spero (otherwise known as UK house and techno producer Glimpse) and Hypercolour co-founder and producer, Alex Jones, return once again as Dense & Pika to the Hotflush fold with ‘Move Your Body Back.’ Having crept out of the shadows back in 2011 with a collection of white labels released through their own eponymous imprint, Dense & Pika went on to bolster their rising profile with the release of their Hotflush debut (‘Crispy Duck') which landed late last year as well as with their memorable live set at Hotflush's recent Boiler Room Takeover.
There is nothing chin-strokingly complicated or needlessly over-worked about their productions. They make interesting techno aimed at the dance floor and ‘Move Your Body Back,’ continues with this central aesthetic. The three track EP plunders percussive depths by way of stern machine rhythms, swollen low-end grit and the echoing, anthemic elements of warehouse rave techno. The title track of the EP may already be familiar to many having appeared on their Resident Advisor podcast in March and is already being played out by Maya Jane Coles, Boddika and Adam Beyer, amongst others. Jack Dixon follows a string of critically acclaimed releases for Apollo (R&S), Take and Losing Suki (Hypercolour) with his debut outing for Hotflush. Influenced by the sparse atmospherics of Wolfgang Voigt, the playful intricacy of Autechre beats and the off-kilter grooves of UK garage, the Berlin-based producer is unconstrained by genre or place, pioneering a modern, progressive sound that?s already garnered him a glowing reputation. In turns colourful, ambient, melodic and driving, his new EP feels right at home on Scuba?s label. Beginning with a deceptively clean
and minimal rhythm, ?E? slowly gives way to lush glacial drones, skittering beats and huge euphoric drops to form a bold production that sits somewhere between the early morning techno dancefloors of Berlin and the murky sweatbox raves of late-night South London. On the flip, he delivers the soulfully taut ?Find Shelter?. Warped vocals weave in and out of an insistent, jazzy house groove, backed by a tapestry of glitches, vinyl crackle and live drum flourishes. It all leads to one of the most delirious and ecstatic drops you?ll hear this year.

The “Rooted” EP draws you in with the title track, bouncing along to an acid baseline, then moves onto “Drowning”, a moody techno track that was included on Scuba’s DJ-Kicks mix compilation, filled with drum and ambient samples taken from field recordings. Lastly, “Change”, a production that smartly melds classic house grooves with industrial techno, demonstrates Locked Groove's rhythmic finesse and long-term promise as an artist.

Both maintaining an influential discography on labels such as Planet E, Intimacy, Tresor, and Bedrock, they've come together to produce "Stolen", a nine-minute techno excursion. Utilising relentless, throbbing percussion that sizzles over growling, acidic synthesis and carefully placed samples, it's presented in three distinct versions, introducing filter-swept chords in the Dub Mix, and an even deeper submersion in the second Dub Mix that perfectly eclipses the raw temperament of the original.
