The St. David Jam trilogy is complete! Once again, the Italian producer plunges into the depths of his music mine, chisels out a few rough gems, and polishes them off until the glinting diamonds beneath are exposed. As advertised, this EP is disco through and through. “Sexy Funk '98” is a slinky shuffler that gets the engine running and “I Got the Music” is a schmaltzy twirler that settles the party squarely under the mirror ball. The reverse is both more feisty and laid back. It starts with “Where U Move,” a lighter number with a hint of tropical rhythms and beachy sunniness. With “The Connection,” the 12-inch comes to a joyous conclusion; the sampled crowd cheers and jeers sound like a dance floor begging for an encore at the end of a long night. More

Wrapping up the summer with a bit of a 90s throwback number by St. David, ?Fools Jam?. The EP opens with the the titual track, a crunchy, crisp deep house burner, and moves on, with “Night Lovers,” into speedier, smoother floor-filling fodder that’s all wiggling, weaving pads and synth leads. The B is a little gentler and more contemplative, but no less melodious; “Dream It (Emphasi Mix)” is a playful yet gauzy piano-led tune that serenades the listener, and “La Luna (Spiritual Dub)” is a tranquil ditty that serenely glides off into the distance. A calming, mellow conclusion to a particularly emotive 12-inch. More

Two lovely House mixes produced by Frankie Knuckles and Brett Wilcotts (Gherkin Jerks). From the mid 80s era when dance music was shaken up between disco, boogie, Italo and the emerging house sounds from Chicago. Claudio Simonetti was a titan of the Italian groove, but his monster jam as Kasso, "One More Round", reached the stratosphere when Windy City godfather Frankie Knuckles gave the track his Midas touch. The Knuckles mix is already worth the pressing, but the flip side contains the overlooked 80s remix by supremo Brett Wilcots. The Chicago master is known for his Gherkin Records and lays his hands on "Walkman" to turn it up to a boogie frenzy of the highest order. Must have! More

Legendary NYC label Nu Groove presents an unmissable vinyl package spotlighting two celebrated house selectors and their 2023 releases. First up on the A-side, Chicago native Ron Carroll presents two tracks from his ‘House Of Love EP’; ‘Mysteries’ aims to answer the question “Where does house come from?” as it namedrops fellow icons, while ‘Dreams’ is more forceful, asserting that “This is OUR house”.

Both feature Carroll’s distinctive vocals, their messages ringing clear and true over that classic, Chicago-club-ready sound.
