New York, early 90's, the haydays of the New York and Jersey clubhouse! With labels such as NuGroove, Nervous, Freeze, Strictly Rhythm, Henry Street Music taking all the spot light, there is Jovonn working on a small but sensational catalogue of music that somehow gets overshadowed by the popular releases on the mentioned labels. The honest productions, jazzy melodies and playful vocals (rooted in gospel) were taking things into a more musical, more spiritual way, lacking gimmicks or dispensable samples. For the real diggers, the true lovers of House music Jovonn always was a name to watch, a producer of some of their favorite NY house tracks, tracks that have a raw edge combined with a sincere human touch and pure underground house vibes. People such as Rex resident Dj Deep was a huge fan, and also collaborated on couple later productions with Jovonn. Slowly he started getting recognition from europe which resulted in a handfull of records on European labels such as Distanc e, Coco Soul and Estereo. Now after almost 25 years since his first release the man's small discography on his own Goldtone label and Emotive records stand out with his unique musical personality. More then 20 years after their original release dates these tunes are still very relevant and stand for many things we love about house music! We are happy to offer this selection of his hard to find early works remastered by Alden Tyrell and pressed on fresh clean high quality vinyl.

Pioneering NYC house label Nu Groove Records is proud to unveil a four-track EP of originals from fellow NYC house legend Jovonn.

After nearly three decades without a release, the cult house label relaunched in 2021 spearheaded by none other than Jovonn with ‘Random / Get Over It’. Following his ‘Funn Houze EP’ released earlier in 2023, the Brooklyn native is back with his ‘Blaque Katt EP’, a masterful display of innate musicality combined with an affinity for roaring '90s-inspired club music.

For the lead, ‘The Piano Fix’, Jovonn creates a dichotomy between the delicate nature instrument and the heavy, sweaty feel of the dancefloor. This is followed by a harder pianistic technique in both ‘The Piano Fix Returns’ and ‘Let Me Tell You Somethin’, showcasing the producer’s flair for harmony and melody.

Closing the immersive collection is ‘Drop That Traxx’, a playful track featuring addictive, syncopated hooks over a pounding four-on-the-floor beat. Throughout the EP, Jovonn displays his talent for gritty, hard music made with tender care. More

After an astounding year for Apollonia storming all corners of the earth, the three welcomed further success with a momentous fiesta at BPM to commence 2014. Working the label in tandem, the list of pioneers featured thus far – POINT G, Callisto and Kerri Chandler – is mighty impressive. Jovonn is a name that sits naturally alongside them, the difference being that the forthcoming EP on Apollonia is not a repress but juicy new productions. A highly respected international DJ and producer hailing from Brooklyn, Jovonn made his mark within the underground House scene with classics such as “I Can’t Make Up My Mind”, “Garage Shelter”, and the standout collaboration with DJ Deep “Back In the Dark”. An intrinsic inspiration to the Apollonia trio, a personal relationship first formed at WMC Miami last year. Enjoying a production comeback following music on Dogmatik and La Vie En Rose in 2013, talk of working with Apollonia has fruitfully resulted in “The EP”. Roy Davis Jr. was part of Phuture and then moved on to New York to record for Strictly Rhythm and DJ Duke's Power Music label. He was one of the main players in the 1990s House Music biz and is still very active until today.

Power Music issued his first long player „The Secret Mission“ and a number of Maxis. Some of his classics got reissued in 1996, sometimes remixed, re-edited and/or a bit faster than the original versions.

This remastered edition contains four of his biggest jams, carefully remastered by Thomas P. Heckmann (TPH). „2B Or Not 2B“ and „Heart Attack“ exist in two different versions, all included as a „digital only“ bonus.

Expect the best Chicago House, „Wild Pitch“ and the New York House sound can offer: Rolling drums, heavy snares, wild filter sweeps and slammin' vocals! More

Mysterious Call Edan project on the slightly less mysterious Sounds Better Records label (at least we can say it's from Bristol) . 'Frome' that we got here, as you could hear if you pressed 'play' already is a take on Liz Torres' masterpiece that lived a great life in the 90s and got the resurrection after D'Julz re-released it on his Bass Culture Records. This one, it seems, balances between the original groove and all those 'Deep' and 'Get Down' editions perfectly. Not overloaded with stuff, it squeezes everything from its 126 BPM - almost impossible to listen to the end without moving. I tried. Both A and B-side openers here are slightly similar and could be described as the step on Cosmic Rhythm territory. Both of them got more or less the same pipey vibe, but 'La Riviera' has much more energetic beat structure inside (built around kick) while 'Protos' keeps pumping us with hats. The last one here - 'Gum' , with the most annoying moment on the preview cut (cuts just before the drop), probably will get even more people screaming and shouting, than any other track on this EP. Drop is working perfectly, be sure. More
