In our corner of leftfield dance music, there are not many of our heroes that we haven’t had the pleasure of hosting on Circus Company. From the early days of Ark and Akufen to Robag Wruhme, Deetron and Franck Roger, we are privileged to have welcomed some genuine legends onto our label, and now we are honoured to add another all-time great to the list; SoulPhiction. Michel Baumann has long been a steadfast measure of everything 4/4 electronic music should be, both as SoulPhiction and Jackmate and as a curator of Philpot Records. Coming up from the same hip hop roots that inspired Circus Co. in the beginning, he channels a sample-fuelled, jazz-inflected sound that would buckle under the weight of the soul contained within were it not for the strength and presence of his rhythm section. With the pair of cuts he shares with us, all aspects of his lifetime’s service are represented in fine style. The Aside swinger “Glitz” comes rocking in on the kind of kinky groove that tickles our limbs just right, taking time for the beat to settle before unfurling a sumptuous funk lick and a bittersweet vocal hook that tugs at the hips and the heart strings.
Meanwhile on the flip “Jinx” provides a futuristic acid treatment, laying out a rigid drum machine mantra and bubbling 303 as a backbone. Meanwhile starlit techno synths dart around the mix with a highly-evolved purpose that eschews any concerns about throwback house music - this is strictly the sound of tomorrow, as techno was always meant to be.

With the release of Alberto Pascual´s "Modeler EP", CLR welcomes a new artist to the label roster while the Madrid based DJ/producer adds another record to his remarkable list of releases on respected Techno imprints, including the legendary Drumcode LTD and Plus 8. CLR076 contains four brand-new compositions of crystal clear, bass-heavy and enthralling Techno from one of Spain´s internationally renowned players. His tracks have been accurately described as "nebulous and aerial groove material dedicated to the suave, stretched and paced night-time" and his efficient production style abstains from any unnecessary element or gimmick. The four tracks focus on the essential roots of uncompromising, absorbing Techno and the individual track titles "Modeler", "Doer", "Modifier" and "Sculptor", which are all related to some kind of hand-made work, might as well be a reference to this original and honest production ethos. Alberto Pascual is one of those restless creators of raw, solid Techno who should be kept closely under watch and the present "Modeler EP" is another faultless and intriguing CLR release.

Uruguayan Guillermo Miranda is no stranger to Cynosure Recordings having released a number of EPs in the past as part of the defunct super duo Monoblock. Following a path to the dancefloor similar to his past collab releases with Martin Teysera Guillermo steps it up and delivers a bomb combination of Chunky house groove and futurist techno sound design with the DRAGONES Y OTRO COSAS EP. Guille doesn't waste time and bangs the box with style on "My Doin". Some very punchy drums served up with a tasty synth hook, makes a mean Techno House meal. The title track "Legal In Uruguay" is a slick, shuffled, bong influenced, techno burner. Some additional production from Mike Shannon shines in a few familiar areas while Guille comes with a massively catchy hook that drops at about 3 minutes in. Hands up! Hands up! The Deep and Headstrong B side called "Dragones y otro cosas" has a slinky groove that leads to a mind puzzle of a breakdown. Mind melting with some Modular synth madness for almost a minute and then dropping the listener back into some ultra deep territory. Magic.

Following his widely celebrated Macro Habitat EP of last year, Santos returns to Dissonant to deliver another three tracks, laying down detailed rhythms that shimmer with the infectious energy in which the man has made his twenty-year career on. "Garlic" is a roving thrill-ride that hangs on to the commanding groove as it whips through a dense landscape of sound, constantly moving forward with an energy that speaks to primal instincts. That leaves it to "Invisible" to get deep in the dub, letting masterfully handled delay and reverb pulse out a spiritually enriching techno mantra.
"Cable" takes a different approach, weaving some colour into the mix. The rolling beat flirts with playful swathes of synthesizer and samples for a wonderfully trippy end result that delights the mind, just as it moves the body.

Ladies and gentleman, we would like to introduce to you; Nachtbraker (Dutch for Night Hawk). This energetic dude from our hometown might not be a familiar name to you, but don't let that put you off. If you're into the darker shades of deephouse with a serious chunk of funk, have a listen to this. Gute Laune is the track that really captures Nachtbraker's style in all its facets. It starts of modest with basic percussion and a nice bended pad, but when the bassline comes in, every element in the track makes your head bop, ass shake en smile grow. The real kicker is the changeover where the long pads makes way for a set of filtered stabs that give the whole track the energetic vibe it deserves, without going overboard. The whole track just exudes the detailed way Nachtbraker produces his tracks, and we love him for it. Bluebottle is a wholly different animal. This track keeps a lower pace with a crunchy pad and mysterious synth setting the tone. With a lovely ever-changing bassline, a couple of changeovers in the percussion and a clever gate-effect on the pad, don't be surprised if you find yourself humming this tune several hours after the first listen. Last but not least, there's Xantippe. Xantippe is hard to classify because of it's two-faced character. What starts of as an atmospheric broken beat dreamy tune, jumps into a raw burner after the break with a haunting buzzy loop. Bassface-WTF-material for the after hours.
Nachtbraker delivers a quality EP that is definitely one for the heads, more than for those in search of peaktime bangers. We're excited to share this solid slice of deephouse that represents everything we started the label for: Great music, no matter where it's from or who made it.

Lifelong studies in classical music as a cellist have sharpened his sensitivities for unique harmonies and a good ear for sounds. A few years back he got fascinated by the modern spirit of club music surrounding him in Bucharest and beyond. Besides working on his solo productions, he recently worked with Pedro Inspirescu for the TT Ensemble project released on Yojik-Concon. Furthermore he created Sideways Invisibility Theory together with Vlad Caia plus a new cooperational jam called Verico with Raresh and Vlad. We are certain Cristi Cons will continue to make waves in a muscial field which is fascinated by feelings, rhythm and the observation of nature.

Wink explains the history and concept behind the track: "The original version was composed in 1994 - just after 'Higher States', 'I am ready' and 'Don't laugh' - and released in 1996, I can't believe it has been 20 years since it was written! I had a friend, in Cleveland Ohio, who knew I never answered my home phone. So, when he called my house, he believed I was there screening and listening to the calls on my answering machine. Hence, "Are you there". Which was actually taken from my answering machine mini cassette, with his blessing. Ben Klock contacted us in regard to him using his own remix version for his fabric mix release. We gave him permission, as an exclusive to the mix, with the possibility for Ovum to release it at a later time. A while ago, we at Ovum were talking about releasing certain catalog legacy tracks for the 20 Years celebration, and 'Are You There' was one on the top of the list. We decided to release his remix on Ovum in 2014, which we're very happy about as we are big fans of Ben. There is also an ROD remix by Benny Rodrigues. Benny is a talented passionate producer who contacted me to ask to remix the original. It's nice to be able to release music close to 20 years old that people are still influenced by. We will be re-releasing both the original and remix versions as part of the 20 years of Ovum celebration." - Josh Wink

French producer David K is ready to announce his debut album, 'Out of Range,' an off-the-radar mixture of romantic melodies on drugs, rocking beats à la parisienne, and sounds to turn you on, released on Tiefschwarz's ever reliable imprint, Souvenir. David K represents something that's all too rare in electronic music today: an artist who makes music first and club music second. For him, emotion is paramount, melody is important, the pop format has its perks and original material is always better than a sample. Late at night and early in the morning, he can be found tapping away on his keyboards and throwing together arrangements on the fly (a pianist by training, he can't bear to make music slouched over a mouse). His only goal is to make something that will keep himself dancing. His roots are in Paris, where he lived his entire life until 2011. He started DJing in the late 80s on a makeshift set of gear, complete with a radio and tape deck, but once he hit his first rave in '91 he went straight for the Technics 1200s. He was making a living as a teacher and graphic designer, but like some invisible cosmic force, the life of the full-time artist kept drawing him in. Always involved in creating, composing, and mixing, he began his production career with the Boogabaloo EP on Sismic in 2002, a small Parisian house label. Not long after that he fell in with some key figures in the Paris' underground club scene, such as Dan Ghenacia, who brought him into the Freak n' Chic stable.
"This album has been 10 years in the making. Well, almost." he points out. "I started to hold on to some of the tracks I was writing over the past decade or so. I suppose you could say that this album is a bit like a bedside-table book which transcends all of my influences, my musical history, and my idea of modern music."
David has always worked conscientiously with the dance-floor in mind, though his sound has always dipped into the outer reaches of myriad genres; rock, funk and unashamedly straight-up pop, a confluence which draws on his honest inspirations. The range of influence can be heard right through the album Beyond drawing upon mere historical influence, he has also brought on board close friends including guest appearances which only help add to the album's rich makeup: dOP frontman Jaw appears on "How Beautiful You Are," frequent collaborator Opium (of La Boetie and Nouvelle Vague) sings on "Intro," whilst old friend and Italian producer, Francesco Farfa, shares writing credits on recent single, "Come Up From the Darkness," David's own voice comes through on on "Show Me The Deal." Like all of his records, the entire package is glazed in the quirky eccentricity, nonchalant percussion and irresistible hunk of sleazy and funk-fueled boogie that we've come to expect of his productions over the years.
In a world of increasingly short attention spans, 142-character, self-styled status updates, ubiquitous smartphones and Big Brother-esque governmental spying, David K shows that sometimes it's good to just take yourself 'Out of Range' for a while.

It has always been the great artist duos that really turned the wheels of cultural history: Ying and Yang, Laurel and Hardy, Siegfried and Roy. The latter's connection to Animal Trainer definitely can't be denied. While Siegfried and Roy might be taming white tigers though, Animal Trainer are specialising in vinyl and the dancing crowd. Both children of the illustrious nightlife of trend capital Zurich, Adrian Flavor and Samy Jackson have made a name for themselves with their Rakete parties, held mostly at their home base, the chic Hive club, as well as many other locations in and around Switzerland. As dedicated music lovers and passionate entertainers, it was a natural progression for the duo to channel their constant appetite for music and endless parties into their own sounds. Thus, their first baby steps were released on Stil vor Talent in the form of 'Talkshow' in 2008. Today, in February 2014, after numerous releases on renowned labels such as Katermukke, Dantze, Off Recordings or their own Hive Audio, the joyous duo is presenting the debut album 'Wide' on Stil vor Talent. Over the course of the thirteen tracks featured, Animal Trainer reveal their playful side as 'Wide' isn't just dominated by dance floor tracks. Thus, one encounters a healthy pop affinity, big melodies, refreshing deep house ballads, musical downtempo and a pinch of polka. The opener 'Come Along' offers itself as a wonderfully mellow starting point thanks to its dreamy textures of warming acoustic guitars, soft trumpet notes and Jimi Jules' unique voice. Next, the energy starts building gradually: while 'How Does it Feel' pairs the r'n'b vox of Natasha Waters with areal melodies and an accessible bass-line, 'Killed You' feels more upbeat due to its diva vocals and synth arpeggios. 'Gone 4 Ever' then turns out to be classic deep house through and through - the merry strings that sweeten the break are particularly convincing here. Animal Trainer show a completely new side to their productions on the excellent electronica track 'The Walk', on which dub chords pulsate through a broken beat structure and creaking synths. The fragile piano does, however, steal the show. After 'Shane' goes around dressed in a classicistic house outfit, 'Pollen' is directing us towards the peak time. Here, elements of neo-trance dance on top of a lush beat and driving percussion - a climax in any DJ set, no doubt. Jan Blomqvist subsequently lends his distinctive voice to the ballad 'Keep Control', supported by a beautifully fluid piano melody. On 'Krambambuli' and 'Crashed Tuesday' Animal Trainer then put the foot on the pedal once more, as fun is the priority. Hence, both tracks feel like they are made with the Hive club in mind, which can't be a coincidence. The title-track 'Wide' simultaneously manifests itself as a gloriously quirky trumpet-epos as well as the album's undisputable highlight. Big emotions for the head and heart! Lastly, the trance-disco-groover 'Everybody' and the humorous electro-polka 'My Town feat. Otoridia' bid us farewell. As the last accordion notes ring out, one thing is certain: wild animals aren't easy to tame, and in Animal Trainer's case that's great news.

It has always been the great artist duos that really turned the wheels of cultural history: Ying and Yang, Laurel and Hardy, Siegfried and Roy. The latter's connection to Animal Trainer definitely can't be denied. While Siegfried and Roy might be taming white tigers though, Animal Trainer are specialising in vinyl and the dancing crowd. Both children of the illustrious nightlife of trend capital Zurich, Adrian Flavor and Samy Jackson have made a name for themselves with their Rakete parties, held mostly at their home base, the chic Hive club, as well as many other locations in and around Switzerland. As dedicated music lovers and passionate entertainers, it was a natural progression for the duo to channel their constant appetite for music and endless parties into their own sounds. Thus, their first baby steps were released on Stil vor Talent in the form of 'Talkshow' in 2008. Today, in February 2014, after numerous releases on renowned labels such as Katermukke, Dantze, Off Recordings or their own Hive Audio, the joyous duo is presenting the debut album 'Wide' on Stil vor Talent. Over the course of the thirteen tracks featured, Animal Trainer reveal their playful side as 'Wide' isn't just dominated by dance floor tracks. Thus, one encounters a healthy pop affinity, big melodies, refreshing deep house ballads, musical downtempo and a pinch of polka. The opener 'Come Along' offers itself as a wonderfully mellow starting point thanks to its dreamy textures of warming acoustic guitars, soft trumpet notes and Jimi Jules' unique voice. Next, the energy starts building gradually: while 'How Does it Feel' pairs the r'n'b vox of Natasha Waters with areal melodies and an accessible bass-line, 'Killed You' feels more upbeat due to its diva vocals and synth arpeggios. 'Gone 4 Ever' then turns out to be classic deep house through and through - the merry strings that sweeten the break are particularly convincing here. Animal Trainer show a completely new side to their productions on the excellent electronica track 'The Walk', on which dub chords pulsate through a broken beat structure and creaking synths. The fragile piano does, however, steal the show. After 'Shane' goes around dressed in a classicistic house outfit, 'Pollen' is directing us towards the peak time. Here, elements of neo-trance dance on top of a lush beat and driving percussion - a climax in any DJ set, no doubt. Jan Blomqvist subsequently lends his distinctive voice to the ballad 'Keep Control', supported by a beautifully fluid piano melody. On 'Krambambuli' and 'Crashed Tuesday' Animal Trainer then put the foot on the pedal once more, as fun is the priority. Hence, both tracks feel like they are made with the Hive club in mind, which can't be a coincidence. The title-track 'Wide' simultaneously manifests itself as a gloriously quirky trumpet-epos as well as the album's undisputable highlight. Big emotions for the head and heart! Lastly, the trance-disco-groover 'Everybody' and the humorous electro-polka 'My Town feat. Otoridia' bid us farewell. As the last accordion notes ring out, one thing is certain: wild animals aren't easy to tame, and in Animal Trainer's case that's great news.

AMR's 27th release features a barnstormer of a track by the legendary John Heckle (of Mathematics Recordings, Tabernacle Records, and M>O>S Recordings) that is sure to light up clubs everywhere. Its big,fat, analog bassline combined with take-charge leads and rising melodies is a floor-filler. "Emerald 66" is six minutes of dancing bliss with its in-your-face snares, claps, and tambourines. It's now almost two years since German producer Sawlin made his debut on Ann Aimee, but now he is back for a third EP on the Delsin sister label. Entitled 'Niedertracht', it features four more tracks of searing techno in truly uncompromising Sawlin style. 'Kontraktion' goes first with heavy metallic hits, lots of industrial machinery found sounds and thumping kick drums. It's lumpy, mechanical and stiff stuff that is slow and purposeful. The surface of 'Padjam' is then covered in squirming, scratchy little effects as syncopated drums swing deep down below. Eventually the thing gets fleshed out with some malfunctioning melodies and slurred vocal stabs yet still it sounds like no other techno out there. 'Niedertracht' takes up the b1 with a spangled techno track that has gurgling synths and fizzing drills all encased in a ravey arrangement of horns and windy howls. The broken sounding 'Weibhaupt' is made up of metal loops, punctured drums and rasping synths that sou nd like factories in melt down. This is truly inventive electronic music that's laced with a very real and unmistakable sense of industrialism, and proves Sawlin is one of the day's most exciting producers

After successfully releasing the debut of EGYPTIAN NIPPLES (duo act formed by Massimiliano Pagliara and Jules Etienne) with the 5 track EP "BACK BUT HALF" Apersonal Music now reveals the remix pack for the mini-album, commissioning 4 experienced producers seeking to maintain the high quality and old school vibe of the original tracks. It was not easy to keep the high standard set by the beautiful tunes produced by Massi and Jules, but you can be sure that names such as Lauer, Jay Shepheard, Session Victim and Luvless did their homework in the best fashion possible. German producer Lauer (who is no new name in the playground with a bunch of great singles, a highly acclaimed album and lots of remixes on labels as Running Back and Permanent Vacation) selected BACK BUT HALF to remix. Maintaining the old school US vibe of the original track, house music is the name of the game here, and at its best! Jay Shepheard, usual producer on Apersonal, gave a clubby dancefloor twist to the electro gem of BOTTLE OF MINE. It will be hard not to stand up when they drop this one on the dancefloor. Session Victim (Retreat / Delusions Of Grandeur) wisely understood the coastal vibe of the original EP (and album cover) by remixing L.A. MELODY towards a Caribbean taste with a Berlin vibe. Last but not least, Luvless (Rose Records / Razor N Tape) took WEEKEND LOVER and transformed it into a dreamy sound blaster for that special moment in your DJ set. Someone said after party?

Avian’s first release in 2014 comes from the enigmatic Swedish duo SHXCXCHCXSH. Blank Code start 2014 off strong with their latest EP Rituals of Submission, produced by Luis Flores, with remixes by Black Asteroid and DJ Hyperactive. The opening track Discipline starts off with a nice creepy atmosphere supported by a solid kick and just the right amount of percussion to hook you into the tracks core rhythm, which stays consistent while the supporting percussion keeps the intensity of the track in constant motion. Black Asteroid's Discipline remix gives the track a whole new perspective, while staying true to the original's excellent use of classic elements. The straightforward kick and upbeats work perfect with this track's industrial bassline, while cleverly programmed analog synths carry the track with slow triplet rhythms, and quirky stabs that drift off to space. Luis Flores' second original composition, The Word, follows the same philosophy as Discipline, with many elements coming together to form one solid rhythm. This is a huge sounding track with intricate metal percussion and pitch modulated stabs that form a dark and inciting hook which is overtaken by filtered claps as the track progresses. DJ Hyperactive gets down to business with his remix of The Word and lets his Chicago roots shine through as hats on all fours and hard hitting claps are used to raise the energy sparked by the deep kick and well processed stab.

Tapping into the strong current of quality electronic music coming out of Sweden, the latest Bass Culture shines a light on two talents working out of the Stockholm underground who have created their own imprint on the European house and techno scene. The Pajala Sunrise E.P marks the first release that Mr Tophat and Art Alfie have issued away from their shared base camps of Junk Yard Connections and Karlovak, two labels that showcase the pair’s commitment to pushing 4/4 dance music forwards wherever they can. Energy lies at the heart of the sound that Oscar and Rudolf (to give them their real names) conjure up, both in the urgent pulse of their full-bodied drum arrangements and the spiritual lilt of their melodic content. Take “Pajala Sunrise”, the A-side on this latest offering, which surges forth on an immersive kick and hat combo coloured with a deceptively funky bass lick. While this rugged exterior provides the momentum to the track, the esoteric keys and pads that come drifting in deliver the soul. With a peak populated with wayward sirens and sunkissed piano stabs, it’s a club ready workout that speaks directly to both body and mind.Where the A-side is all joyous celebration, “Ressle Restroom” heads into moodier territory where percussion dominates the frequency range. It’s a slow-burner, holding back on all the elements for as long as possible to truly draw the mind into a sparse soundscape populated by abstract vocal snippets and pumping locomotives of drums, inspired by the choppy funk of micro house but welded to a more weighty rhythmic framework. The deeper into the track you go, the more the sound world builds up around you, from crowd ambience to momentary diva croons, the track never peaking or troughing as much as constantly burrowing into your subconscious. For their first adventure away from their own highly-regarded labels, Mr Tophat and Art Alfie have demonstrated the skills that have brought them so much success on their own terms. Bass Culture is only too happy to help spread that talent even further afield.

Deeplay / Opilec Music offers up three new versions of a classic and previously unreleased (on 12" at least) disco-fried Giorgio Moroder track in the form of 'Utopia - Me Giorgio'. The remixer is Opilec Music boss, I-Robots, who has reworked classic Moroder material before and who is a huge fan of the disco and electronic music pioneer Einzelgänger. The concept of this release was simply to create longer versions of the track that was originally included in the From Here To Eternity partially mixed album - incredibly no one else has officially done this since the original release date in 1977. Importantly, though, because the track is so seminal, the remixes are all hugely sympathetic affairs that don't change the atmosphere or intentions of the original artist. Up first is the 'I-Robots 1977 Reconstruction', which has just seen the original extended from 3:23 minutes to almost 7 minutes (all these reconstructions are long). The result is a fantastic thing that is now perfectly suited to club play with fulsome modern production, a revisited version that is a perfect reinterpretation maintaining the spirit of the '77 original. For the 'I-Robots 2014 Tape Reconstruction', the remixer had a dream that he found an old original Moroder tape in a flea market and used it to beef up this track. The addition of analog tape background noise gives the mix a dirty and dusty vintage sound and as such it now has a strong and powerful impact with infectious drums, frazzled synth lines and plenty of meaty disco dazzle. Finally, The 'I-Robots 2014 Reconstruction' is the clean version of the Tape Reconstruction with a powerful tech-house beat underpinning it, making it the version most suited to heavy dance floor usage. The vinyl release includes only the 1977 and the 2014 Tape Reconstructions and is handled exclusively by Opilec Music.

Three years after his last full-length album on Delsin, tireless techno producer Mike Dehnert is back. The 104th release on Delsin, entitled Lichtbedingt, counts 12 tracks and is yet another subtle evolution away from the chord driven, functional sound he has championed before now. Since his last album, Dehnert has continued to steer his Fachwerk label through the techno undergrowth and it has now amassed more than 25 releases in all. At the heart of the label's output has been Dehnert's own increasingly experimental techno and this new album is testament to the producer's continued exploration of the form. Where Framework was, in the words of Mike himself, ''focussed on the heavy techno form'', this album explores broken bass, swinging house and beatless electronic experimentalism amongst other things. ''I love to release music. I still enjoy the album writing process very much,'' says Mike, before adding, ''I have noticed that sometimes the success of a track depends on the light at club, which is why the album is called Lichtbedingt, meaning 'depends on light!''' The album starts off with a suitably sombre intro that features cold, slowly shifting synths. They set an uneasy and moody tone before 'Construction' settles into a fat, swaggering. From there you get lost in broken, ruptured, malfunctioning bits of hardware that spit out random hi hats, bleeps and gurgles and then eventually get spat out the other side into a cantering bit of dubwise techno with paranoid vocal snippets. Moving along, the album throws plenty of diverse influences into the mix: 'Movement' is freaky and dynamic, skipping and pumping, ducking and diving through all sorts of occult synth sounds and shadowy vocal loops then 'Single Action' is like a sledge hammer groove run through with harmonic elements that glint and glisten like diamonds in the rough. Classic sounding Dehnert tracks like 'ReRe' remind us where this producer has come from, whil st the breezy house swagger of 'Emlo' show us where he might be headed. Key to this album and Dehnert's output as a whole is, besides the killer grooves, the production: crisp and clean, full blooded and always outstanding, it makes his tracks leap out of the speakers and into minds, bodies and souls without relying on the usual tropes or same old cheap tricks.

EMOTIONAL RESPONSE UNEARTH A SELECTION OF LOST REMIXES TAKEN FROM THE BRAIN MACHINE SELF-TITLED ALBUM, WITH INTERPRETATIONS BY STEVE MOORE, MAJEURE, SPECTRAL EMPIRE AND UNIT 4. When released on the THISISNOTANEXIT label in 2008 to little fanfair, the Brain Machine by Brain Machine was 2 unknown producers delivering a unique take on the electronic, experimental climbs of the Krautrock sound. Now known to be Rome based Guido Zen and London's Jon Tye - aka one half of the Seahawks - the album soon spread through word of mouth and was backed with live dates from Scotland to Scandinavia. Handing the album to a selection of producers they admired resulted in remixes from Dusseldorf's Unit 4 and Musiccargo, London's Spectral Empire - aka George Thompson (Black Merlin) and Kyle Martin (Land of Light) - and from the USA, Jonas Reinhardt and both Steve Moore and A.E Paterra of space rock pioneers, Zombi. With the demise of TINAE in 2010, the remixes never saw the light of day. The Lost Machine EP collects 4 of those remixes on to one 12", while the rest will be available as digital only. A collection of percussive interpretations take the album's electronic kraut expanses towards a darker club sound that wouldn't go amiss on the more experimental offerings from LIES or Creme Organisation. All-in-all a welcome archival excavation from Emotional Response.

We at Fifty Fathoms Deep are proud to release the stunning debut long player from Frederick aka Peter Oakden. After 20 years of experience, Gary Martin couldn’t resist a 12” that is also the 50th release for Teknotika: a label from Detroit that didn’t exactly stick with the game when it switched to the mp3 format. “Basking In Blackness” is a composition of textured broken beat then classic four on the floor old school soul.“Synthotika” is what would happen if a synthasizer could take over an orchestra. A track inspired by Detroit peers no doubt. “Every Bit As Beautiful” goes sensative deep house piano, a lil Latin percussion and soaring Eno-esque synths to top it off. The title is a bit sarcastic, let’s face it, there is no life after techno!

Claptone was one of the first names on the list of people we wanted to remix Romanthony. Amazingly, right at the beginning of the whole project he agreed. But for some reason or another, it just didn't work out. Each time we put together a new remix package, we would check and see if he was available and each time something meant it couldn't happen. Either the track didn't work for him or he was too busy. It looked for a while like we weren't going to get our man. Finally, late last year, we sent him the Floorpiece acappella and that was it. Something clicked and he delivered this MONSTER of a remix. Like Schatrax's "Mispent Years" or Inner City's "Ahnonghay", this is underground house music at its very best. Heavy garage beats, a dark'n'moody bassline and some killer keys underpin Romanthony's unmistakable story about his Dj-ing experience. Get ready Miami, Ibiza and beyond, this is a future anthem for sure. Next up is Dogmatik main man Alex Arnout. Fresh from his killer "One Nation" track with Tyree Cooper on One Records, the Circo Loco resident delivers a super deep bass-heavy mix filled with dubbed-out vocals and spacey arps. One for the afterhours… Kevin McKay follows up his heavily-supported single on OFF Recordings with another peak-time stomper. In keeping with his previous remix on Romanthony's "Trust", McKay takes Romanthony's vocal on a heavy-duty ride. This time the acid is replaced with cascading synths and heart-melting strings and the overall effect is like a Dixon mix on 4 Es. Serious stuff. Finally, from the Glasgow Underground vaults, there is an unreleased mix from 1999 where Roman strips his original mix down to is essential components. Killer RAW house music.

Making their first appearance on the label, Venezuelan deep house masters Sergio Munoz and Israel Sunshine aka Fur Coat are the next to release on the mighty Hot Creations. Title track 'There's No Time' sees the darker side of the talented duo for an epic experience on the dance floor with deep growling basslines complemented with powerful electronic keys and dramatic builds. On the B-side Hot Creations favourite wAFF delivers a stellar and storming 'Warehouse Remix' picking up the pace with added vocals and percussion, packed with all the sonic energy we have come to expect from the young producer. Last up the Fur Coat duo deliver another golden original. 'Together' takes it deeper once again with a rumbling bassline and hypnotic synths and keys flowing through the layers to stimulate the senses. Fur Coat previously remixed Russ Yallop's 'The Crossroads' followed by their debut EP 'Space Ballad', featuring an unforgettable edit by TEED. However it would be their release 'You and I' featuring vocals from Cari Golden that would put the name Fur Coat on the map. At the end of 2012 they released their huge debut album 'Mind Over Matter' on Crosstown Rebels, with further ventures on labels such as Bpitch, Rebellion, Southern Fried Records, Noir, Get Physical and My Favorite Robot. wAFF has rapidly gone strength to strength in the past few years after being taken under the wing of Jamie Jones, Lee Foss and Richy Ahmed. First coming to everyone's attention with the huge 'Jo Johnson' EP, wAFF has gone on to acquire a heavy touring schedule and his more recent 'Puke It Up' EP released on the label only cemented his career in the industry further. Marco Bernardi has enjoyed a long an illustrious career, but it's probably in these last couple of years that the Glaswegian producer has found his sound. Previous releases on Frustrated Funk, Clone, Royal Oak, Crème Organisation, Futureboogie and Rawax have built a solid reputation, and key releases last year on Carl Craig's Planet E and MOS/Delsin have sealed his rep as a unique player in the industry. So it's with welcome arms that Hypercolour release the 'Music For Short Attentions' EP, choc full of energizing sounds. Lead cut 'No One Seems To Care' could just be a bona-fide cross over for our man (not that it is the intention), but the surging Resse-esque bassline, blazing synth stabs and rock solid beats provide a real 'call to the dancefloor' moment, the discordant vocal adding to the mood. ‘Meteor' has Bernardi playing his toys to maximum effect, dark and raw Motor City vibes, shades of early Claude Young and Anthony Shakir abound here. 'In Between Fire' is a groovy as hell house cut, all deft organ riffs and twisted modulation whilst vinyl closer 'The Final Triangle' sounds old skool to the max, but a sound and atmosphere that one will never tire of; melancholic riffs and hypnotizing drum machines, all the trademarks of this classic sound we know as techno (in all its forms and tempos). Great stuff from Marco, and an artist we hope to hear much more of in 2014.

Py - Swimming Slow Following the beautiful 'Polyethers' released in Autumn 2013, Py returns with a stunning new single 'Swimming Slow', via Champion Records on the 10th March. Referencing the stripped-down, utilitarian aesthetic of Brutalist architecture (a detail of Preston bus station features on the cover), the 5 tracks here mine looped, blocky source material gradually embellished with more complex percussive and atmospheric layers that are at once robust and introspective. From the opening woodblock/rave dismantling "UK WIll Not Survive" to the heady Hardcore of "Three Day Jag", the EP evokes a distinctly Northern British Weltanschauung, a joyous revelling in melancholy that goes as far back as the earliest dances documented in Mark Leckey's 'Fiorucci Made Me Hardcore' - somehow unique to British nightlife. The EP closes with the industrial clang of "Run Out', the cacophony slowly converging into an alignment of percussion and space, trigerring that feeling of re-emerging into daylight at the end of a long night. Blinded by all the light... by all the possibilities.

Squarehead, a Sheffield-based up-and-coming talent, is the lucky producer to nab LPH's 25th release, a landmark to say the least. (As such, the label is printed with touches of silver inks.) Hot off a thrilling 12" for Manucci's Mistress and a nasty one for Shabby Doll, Squarehead's LPH contribution is, as one should now expect, all lean muscle and no fat. "Dead Reyt" gets the record going at a feverish pace; a propulsive and peppy bass gets you moving straight away, with well-placed synth washes, vocal drops, and an arpeggiated, loopy melody making it playfully suspenseful and engaging. When it sputters out after seven minutes, you either hit repeat or eagerly move on the next cut, "Got2Know," an equally forceful and headfirst piano house boogie. The B-side begins with "Vishen," an elastic, whimsical jam that's laced with a bouncy synth hook and sporadic bits of extra fills, claps, and supplemental bass licks. The 12" closes with "Someday," a rigid, square house tune built around a sprightly steel drum part and swinging hats that coalesce into a euphoric conclusion to this already lighthearted yet masterfully arranged and executed collection of originals.

When Luke Solomon got in touch and said he wanted to work with Local Talk we felt both honoured and happy, especially since we've been fans for a long time and Mats actually booked him to his Raw Fusion club in the late 90s. He's been around long enough to be considered a legend within the scene. We couldn't agree more. Lost Channels, a 130 bpm piano driven and punk-dubby New York inspired house track comes in two versions.

Purple Horizon marks the debut vinyl release for South Coast producer Sam Smith, an artist who has been immersed in the UK house and techno scene for more than ten years. As a founding member of the Delete events collective he has played alongside the likes of Akufen, Mike Shannon, Portable and Move D in London, Bristol, Brighton and Bournemouth, while continually working in the studio alongside his DJ activities. This first release for his own Nothing Odd Recordings showcases the sound Smith has been honing for years, with a focus on experimental textures and disorientating samples set amongst crisp, rock-solid rhythms operating on the axis between house and techno. With this stylistic approach in mind Baby Ford made for a logical choice of remixer, particularly considering the veteran producer's later forays into dark, hypnotic minimal house and techno as seen on his releases for Perlon, amongst others.

Oslo disco-dance champ, DJ and producer Todd Terje finally releases his debut long-player 'It's Album Time' via his own Olsen Records. Terje presents 12 of his works known and unknown. Ever since Todd dropped 'Eurodans' back in 2005 he's had many a beady disco eye trained in his direction. His grooves are effortless and his melodies infectious! Here he puts all his experience and nordic sense of fun into twelve tracks of straight up home listening pleasure. It comes packing the huge 'Strandbar' and 'Inspector Norse' tracks, it's got a guest spot from Bryan Ferry on a version of Robert Palmer's 'Johnny and Mary' and in between all that, it jumps for joy around his own lit-up Balearic world. With killer artwork from illustrator Bendik Kaltenborn this is one solid debut and one that's sure to feature throughout 2014. Training to become a pianist Terje Olsen (as he was originally called) enrolled at a local music school, but to his disappointment there wasn’t much jazz being taught there. Gradually leaving the musical career path, he later moved on to study physics at the University of Oslo. Growing up in the rural village of Mjøndalen, dance music influences were scarce. However, during the early/mid nineties dance culture sneaked it way into even the most remote parts of Norway, thanks to The Prodigy and national radio stations filling prime time slots with underground jocks Olle Abstract and Pål “Strangefruit” Nyhus from Mungolian Jetset. Inspired by an older generation of UK disco heads, Terje soon began to make his own re-edits of old disco records and moved on to his own productions... Alex Barck preps the Reunion Remixes 12' the first taste of remixes from last years debut album Reunion. 'Reunion', the debut album by Alex Barck created quite a stir last year. Now two 12inch releases make sure that this stir is not fading away by any time soon. Two 12inches that include remixes by the current creme de la creme of electronic dance music production. After Osunlade delivered already last year an outstanding rendition of the album track 'Oh Africa' it's now up to Amsterdam based producer and DJ Full Crate to get his hands on this declaration of love to a whole continent. Masterfully he accomplishes this endeavour while weaving Christine Salem's voice along a twisted shuffle beat and drives the track to the next level by adding stabbing synth chords. Full contact! On the flipside the enigmatic British production duo Mao take us by surprise with their reinterpretation of 'Doubter'. All of a sudden Jonatan Bäckelie finds himself in a dripstone cave. Splashes of vocoder enhanced speech make this track trip out even more and Roberto uses each element perfectly to allow the track to pulse and flow. Lei rounds things off on a decidedly dubby/jazzy note. Broken and trippy beats give way to delicate percussion and deep sub bass, giving this track a fantastic groove. Roberto shows his grasp of melody perfectly and fluttering, jazzy keys spring to life offering a more contemplative mood. One of his great talents is being able to make tracks that slot nicely into the realms of pre and post clubbing and this fits that description to a tee. With his debut album en route, Roberto gives us a quick glance into his vast musical talent creating unique moods from deep emotive music.

What Chopstick & Johnjon have created in "Pining Moon" is arguably their most intently focused pop song to date. Recorded in collaboration with Chris James, whose projects include the band Stateless, the song features deeply emotional arrangements driven by a punchy kick drum and cleverly interwoven with enticing, dreamy acoustic guitar and cello cameos. It’s all topped by vocals from James that redefine the concept of nocturnal romance. This is one of the most poignant and striking songs on Chopstick & Johnjon’s “TWELVE” (release 04.04.2014), making it a perfect choice for the album's first single. Jay Shepheard delivers two different interpretations of the song. The first is airier, with a synth pattern that turns the song's vocal harmony on its head and shines the spotlight on falsetto. The second is the absolute synthesis of dance floor groove and melancholic, sighing guitar. The Death on the Balcony Remix takes a similar approach, where the gentle arrangements of the original are capped with a pulsating bass groove, which takes the song decisively in the direction of the dance floor.

Tip! Thee AfterDark, a 6 piece ensemble that hails from Los Angeles, presents their self titled debut EP. Four cuts of pure dancefloor bliss. Carefully arranged, recorded, and mastered for optimal results. The EP features the group's Rendition of Gil Scott-Heron's The Bottle and a reconstruction by Japan's Kyoto Jazz Massive of Thee AfterDarks original cut No I Can't. The Ep opens with KJM's reconstruction; with beat programing reminiscent of LCD sound systems, KJM laces the track and gives it his signature feel. Following the Reconstruction is the No I Can't original mix. Lush chords and skipping synth melodies take us back to when boogie tracks ruled the dancefloor. On the flip is Gil Scott Heron's The Bottle. The group's refreshing interpretation of the 1974 classic is complete with a string arrangement and flute-fills, complements of Quetzal Guerrero of Yoruba Records fame, as well as James King, saxophonist for Fitz and the Tantrums. B2 is a commentary on the sign of the times. What Time It Is, includes trumpets by Serafin "El Toro" Auguilar from the Maynard Ferguson Big Band as well as the vocal work of Jacob Garcia. Clark has been hard at work continuously progressing his sound since 2012's Iradelphic, which featured vocals, field recordings and live instrumentation for the first time. With this new 12" single Superscope, the Warp stalwart continues to push boundaries, fusing with a sound he's been associated with in the past - one that belongs on a dimly lit dance floor. Debuting an all new live show in London after recent tour in the US with Jon Hopkins, Clark has incorporated live visuals along the lines of oscilloscope cover image, which he calls Phosphor, that is classic acid at it's core. Hard biting white noise and cutting synths unite over a sputtering female vocal that would work themselves into an Underground Resistance set as easily as contemporary producers like Jacques Greene and the Night Slugs camp.
