R&S welcomes Acid Mondays for a 12" of lysergic house music that reaches far into the outer cosmos. Formed "somewhere in the 5th dimension” Acid Mondays is the cosmic coalition of fellow psychonauts Negghead (Dan Ward) and Lex Wolf (Alex Wolfenden). Repeated transformative visits to Ibiza culminated in landing regular slots at Circoloco where they have been testing this tune in the dance all Summer long. ‘Universal Rhythm’, their latest interstellar dispatch and debut on R&S is their finest work to date. An anthemic paean to the cosmos that features an impassioned spoken word missive from shamanistic MC Shovell, impressively recorded in a single take, making the case for the universality of experience and oneness of all beings. Latin rhythms fuse with a driving Fender Rhodes lick (provided by JD73) and percolating cow bells to hypnotic effect. This calls to mind a combination of classic Carl Craig and Villalobos at his most playful. R&S new signing The Maghreban supplies a killer dubbed out take on the original that strips away the heavy kicks and pumps up the percussion, hurtling the synth pads to the fore that comes on like John Carpenter peaking on MDMA. La Vie En Rose commences its 2016 campaign with a tight little package from the delirious Ibiza dwelling duo, Acid Mondays. The British lads are well known for their ability to concoct deadly dance floor weaponary for labels such as Rumors, Illusion, One Records and 2020Vision among others and now they’re back on the French label with two hot new tracks plus a remix from Greek grafter John Dimas. Lead track ‘Garaldo’ is a heady stepper with warped, galactic vocal snippets, glowing FX and a killer bassline. Coming in at just over 10 minutes, it’s a trip into the deepest recesses of Acid Mondays cosmic craniums. Lola ED family member John Dimas weighs in with his reinterpretation of ‘Garaldo’, putting the original on a diet and cultivating a slimline, though equally effective version of the track. His delicate use of twinkling melodies, barely there vocals and skippy percussion gives us a whole new piece of music, which is wonderfully restrained.On the flip, ‘Machette’ lives up to its name, with the percussion slicing and dicing its way through a gnarly bassline and bubbling toms. Underground mainstay Guy Gerber is back on his own Rumors label with new EP Leave It On. Across three tracks he showcases his famously emotive and melodic house sounds. Gerber has been a core part of the underground for years, headlining the world's most revered clubs and festivals, collaborating with P. Diddy, bringing all new party concepts to Ibiza, and serving up serene and synth heavy soundscapes that move people physically and emotionally on labels like Cocoon, Italians Do It Better and Rumors. Returning to his Rumors imprint Guy Gerber delivers his latest missive, ‘Pyramid of the Moon’. Offering up a four -track EP, the enigmatic DJ/producer drops four delicately crafted house tracks featuring Gerber’s own guitar playing and Albertina on vocals. Guy Gerber’s Rumors recruits Öona Dahl and Amber Cox aka Slumber for a dose of psychedelic house on the ‘Twin Moon EP’ this May. Slumber’s previous outings for the likes of Nervous, Viva Recordings and Desert Hearts have seen them push an otherworldly, dreamlike sound and this debut for Gerber’s imprint sees the pair turn in the most accomplished expression of their heady aesthetic to date. Across the release, the duo displays their talent for crafting hypnotic and engaging tracks. From the wistful, muted vocals on ‘Envoke’ through to twinkling closer ‘Twin Moon’, understated atmospherics, soft tones and well-considered production take the forefront, leading the listener through their delicate sound. Set to be Miss Kittin's debut appearance on the label and also marking the eighth RUMORS release, 'Rumors On The Dancefloor' is a powerful embodiment of Guy's innovative imprint. Divided into two parts, the release is built around a symbolic whisper and deep bass guitar riffs that follow a galactic-inspired house and techno framework - with part two a harder offering awash with Guy's signature blend of melodic soundscapes and stylish beats. Over on the white isle, RUMORS is also encompassing a hugely successful event series held at Playa d'en Bossa’s beautiful Beachouse. Haunting, ethereal, emotive, propulsive Guy Gerber and Puff Daddy's long-awaited collaborative album project 11 11 will at last be revealed. At once a meeting of two worlds, and yet also a dismissal of those signifiers, 11 11 inverts the recent dialogue between the worlds of hip-hop and electronic music, eschewing simple radio friendly factory fare, for darker, richer, deeper soundscapes. 11 11 is not a project aimed at main-stages and masses, but outliers and after-hours. Guy and Puff Daddy's collaboration was not born out of opportunism, indeed it's disruptive of the current main-stage malaise, and was germinated before the current electronic explosion; it's collaborative and combative, an expression of two outsized creative personalities unfettered, unfiltered, fearless, raw, and after four years of work, almost unrealized. Despite their obvious differences, the duo behind these 11 tracks have crafted an album that feels organic and truthful. Puff Daddy's delicate and understated vocals, Gerber's emotive layering of synths, drums and melodies, 11 11 feels like a nuanced and diverse exploration of whatever powerful force drew these disparate talents together. On paper it's a crazy collaboration, on the ears it's magical. How an underground Israeli techno producer was cherry picked by Puff Daddy as his partner on this project, says a lot about Guy Gerber, and in turn, about Puff Daddy. One of electronic music's most vibrant and contrarian characters, Gerber possesses one of its most singular contemporary voices, his music is both simultaneously haunting and uplifting, its music that inspires you to dance yet is evidently colored by melancholy. Sean 'Diddy' Combs is one of hip-hops biggest and most successful stars, but he is no stranger to the electronic music, indeed he was one of the first hip-hop artists to embrace dance music, and has been making annual pilgrimages to Ibiza's DC10 and Miami's WMC for over 10 years. He has recorded electronic records with dance icons like Felix da Housecat, DJ Hell and Erick Morillo and released the much venerated album, 'Last Train To Paris'. '11 11' is the realization of his long-standing desire to create a soundtrack to, as he puts it, 'rooms I don't belong in.' More
