Engaged with a fantastic collection of analogue synths and drum machines, Moomin is always on a hunt of the most delicate samples. After his big first album "The Story About You" and a number of beautiful works on his own imprint "Closer", he was already back on Smallville's new little baby "Fuck Reality" to deliver a 12" for the 2015 summertime. Of course Moomin was also part of the Smallville 10 years Compilation "Smallville Ways" and delivered again for Smallville 46. Now he appears with another string of beauty- A Minor Thought. We are thrilled to present a bunch of of exciting newbies at the Smallville camp, 4 tracks that heat up the Smallpeople sets for quite a while now.
On the A1 it's Frantzvaag from Oslo, known for his trippy grooves on our sublabel Fuck Reality. He is a Move D's favourite and currently working on his debut album for Smallville. Nightseajourney on the A2 is a studio cooperation between Garrett David and Colin Johnson, two friends hailing from Chicago. Garrett is kind of our american vice-versa, working for the sweetest recordstore in town (Grammaphone), Resident at the best club (Smart bar) and smoking the best pot.
Margaux is a friend from Vietnam/ France, currently living in Berlin and known for her irresistible DJ-Sets at Woody's Heideglühen, Fusion Festival, Equation in Vietnam or Waking Life 2018 in Portugal. Even if this surprises you when listening to the majestic groove of Water On Mars- this is her first appearence on Vinyl and we are super happy this is happening on Smallville.
Qnete rounds up the compilation on the infamous B2-spot – and this track is like made for it- deep and twisted, yet steady forward beats and a rolling sub-bass for the groove – just as we like it. Make sure to listen loud!

It’s been seven years since Smallpeople’s debut album, ‘Salty Days’. In the time since, much has changed in our world of dance music, and, so we hear, even beyond. Yet our men in Hamburg have remained dedicated to their unapologetically reassuring vision of house music as-a-whole. As well as expanding their Smallville Records shop in Hamburg’s St. Pauli, they’ve continued to act on their direct-line to the beating heart of house music at some of the world’s finest clubs, including their monthly residency at Hamburg’s legendary Golden Pudel, inviting guests such as Lakuti, Session Victim and Pantha Du Prince into the warmest dance in the grimiest club. Of course, all these manoeuvres sit alongside their work running Smallville Records, home to the likes of Moomin, STL and Christopher Rau, and it’s sub-label, Fuck Reality.
Given Julius Steinhoff and Dionne’s stewardship in filtering the creme-de-la-creme of house music from the underground and into clubs across Europe and further afield, it would be particularly cliched on this occasion to stress that their second record is “eagerly awaited.” In their own way, they have already given us enough great records. But with ‘Afterglow’, we get another, and more importantly, one carved directly from the hearts and record collections of two individuals whose understanding of dance music appears to be some sort of blissful second-nature.
This sort of earned assuredness is immediately established on opening track ‘Magic Interference’, a rolling, deep and somewhat jazzy house number with tumbling keys and sky-walkin’ chords. This steady, blissful vibe sets the tone for the first half of the record, as the pair patiently unfold their touchstones; equal parts Chicago (‘Hearts at Whole’), Detroit (‘All States of Dawn’) and Hamburg, famed for it's transatlantic routes via groundbreaking clubs such as Front, it's a crystalline distillation of a sound that’s earnest, but never nostalgic.
Intuitive selectors as they are, Smallpeople pick the ideal moment to up the pace for the home-run, defined here by the spiky, disco bassline of ‘Beyond’, an unexpected ingredient that Steinhoff and Dionne nevertheless manage to diffuse into spacedust. It’s a brilliant wrong footing before the wide-eyed, warm-hearted anthem-in-waiting, ‘Sonic Winds’, a wonderfully cheeky glimpse of Smallpeople as peak time heroes, before the acid-flecked shuffle of Benevolent Reciever reveals their spiritual soundboy side.
In conclusion, title track ‘Afterglow’ surmises the generous spirit at the heart of Smallpeople’s operation; a sensitive and irresistible ode to record stores, parties, community and discovery. So, worth that seven year wait? Who cares about time, when your music’s this timeless?

After remixes for Telfort and Lerosa recently, a 12“ together with moomin on his Closer label and some Smallpeople material last year plus a surprising non-electronic album with his band-project Tonight Will Be Fine (together with Abdeslam Hammouda) on Japanese label Mule Musiq, Julius is now back on his own imprint, delivering 3 deep cuts for the dancefloor.
Next to running the Smallville record-store and -label, Julius started his own club-night and accompanied stamp-label Down By The Lake (catalogue number 03 is out now) in Freiburg, plus hosting the Smallville & Friends thursday at legendary Golden Pudel Club in Hamburg every month as a Smallpeople residency together with Just von Ahlefeld. They also put out record no. 5 on Smallville-offshoot Fuck Reality recently. Watch out for more good things to come this summer.. Smallville Records celebrate their 10th anniversary with the 3rd and 4th part of the „Ways“ Series. It started in 2011 with Twentyfour Ways (Smallville 24)- one 12“, four tracks, four artists and with timeless music only. It continued in 2013 with Smallville 35 (Thirtyfive Ways)– same concept, but different artists. And now it’s finally time for Smallville 44 and 45 (Fortyfour and Fortyfive Ways)- wonderful new tracks of Smallville’s favourite producers and family members.
STL contributes with one of his dubs and it could have lasted forever. After building up a unique state of the art sound since ages- including records on labels such as Bine, Source, Modern Love, Uzuri, Warp and many others- Move D and Benjamin Brunn come along with a Single on Smallville to tease their forthcoming album "Songs from the Beehive". The Honey EP takes a short trip into the world of two ultraspecial producers. Benjamin Brunn and Move D cut these three pieces from their ultradeep live jams and the result is magical. The deeply kicking "Honey" is already proved by Smallville's Lawrence: "How crazy can the panorama bar get!". His flatmate Efdemin prefers the "Melons": "Thats the deep shit for life!!". And Golden Pudel Chief Ralf Köster is amazed about his new ambient number one "After the rain". Besides a wide range of references - deep detroit house, dub, classical minimal music and even jazz and disco- "Songs From The Beehive" is just the essence of the world of Benjamin Brunn and Move D themselves. Their unconventional way of production might be the main ingredient of pieces like this. Working out a track could start with a loop of Brunn's Nord Modular or a Moog bassline from David Moufang. Based on a sweet scape or just a clear sample the trip starts slowley and gets you into unexpected directions. It is the warmth, deepness, the fluffy grooves and the sounds that make you diving into a sea of ambience and rythm.
Nobody could be better to do the artwork to such an incredible colorful album than Stefan Marx. He is not just the artist who gives covers from Playhouse, Mule and Smallville a face- he loves the music inside coming from Isolée, Sten and now he is a big fan of Move D and Benjamin Brunn, creating the most lightning cover ever. Like the musicians Stefan Marx never follows to what people expect.

Welcome to Smallville, Rhythm of Paradise.
We are big fans of Michele Lamacchia's music since he released “Paradise” on his debut
12” as Rhythm of Paradise on Cosmic Rhythm. This track breathens out everything we
love about house music- deepest rhythms and dope production, timeless sounds - and
the mighty loon. Whenever we played this track since it came to light, this was a
highlight of the night. We approached Michele to send some love for his music and he
send over this EP- 3 tracks plus a shimmering remix from his buddy Nicola Loporchio aka
Cosmic Garden, who is running the Cosmic Rhythm label.
We are delighted to present these as Smallville 53, comes with a full cover art by the one

Due to thyphoon Dujuan, Move D and his friends Benoit Bouquin aka Initials B.B. & Marco Wollenberg were trapped in the studio for a few days, when David visited Taipei in 2015 to play Corner Club. All the flights to and from the island were cancelled during the storm, so the three had some extended studio- and red-wine sessions. Looking back from now- these were all worth it and the best thing that could happen- 3 hazy and timeless cuts from the eye of Dujuan.
As always it comes with a stunning full-cover artwork from Stefan Marx.

MASK’s ZentaSkai & Laura Merino Allue announce vinyl-only underground house and techno series as
Cuddling Monsters.
Cuddling Monsters serve up the first vinyl-only volume of a new self-titled series on Berlin-based Mask Records. All
four cuts explore deep and classy techno, dub and house soundscapes with the aim of rediscovering the soul of
electronic music and forming new bonds between human creativity and technological innovations.
Cuddling Monsters is the coming together of creative partners ZentaSkai and Laura Merino Allue. ZentaSkai is the
MASK founder recognised for his immersive, hypnotic groove, and Allue is a fashion and graphic designer. They are
newly assembled under this alias but have a long-time love of vinyl and analogue machines, which shows in their sounds.
"Crafting music with analogue instruments holds profound importance in the contemporary musical landscape. Despite
the omnipresence of digital technology, analogue instruments maintain a pivotal role, offering distinctive sonic qualities,

The superbly deep and atmospheric 'Lucky Star' is a dubby minimal cut with a deft rhythm and warm pads that are
perfect for cosy back rooms. The absorbing 'Crystal Growing' is another stripped-back techno roller with rubbery drums
and pensive chords that lock you into a state of meditation. Up next is the powerful 'Floating Tank' which pairs gorgeous
ambient synths with driving drums. It's a great coming together of the physical and the emotional that will take dance
floors to the next level. 'Analog Dreams' shuts down with more perfectly smoky pads and grainy lo-fi atmospheres as
slick but driving drums power onwards.

As While My Sequencer Gently Bleeps Schwander strips down his equipment even further and refines his longstanding idea of creating reduced minimalistic tracks radiating warmth, digging deep and delivering the groove.

The five tracks on "OK" all follow one basic flow: big basslines, elegant chords and transparent arrangements, rhythms as compelling as unobtrusive. Schwanders love for dub shimmers through the tracks, just as his pop-trained flair for seductive harmonies.
