Seven years after the classic ‘Theater of a Confused Mind’ (as Population One), Detroit techno phenomenon Terrence Dixon is back on Rush Hour with a new album, this time under his own name.
It would be a massive understatement to say we’re proud of this one. After all our whole operation was named after one of Dixon’s early tracks (‘Rush Hour’ originally appeared on a double EP called ‘Hippnotic Culture’ on fellow Detroit legend Claude Young’s Utensil Records in 1995) and ‘Reporting from Detroit’ again finds the maestro in outstanding form.
‘Reporting from Detroit’ is another prime example of the distinctly unique sound language Dixon has developed over the last three decades - defiant, forward-thinking afrofuturist techno that could only have been made in the Motor City.
But this is not just mere Detroit techno - it’s a sound language that’s unique to Dixon. The bumping mood of Earth Station is one such moment, close enough to isolate the diving bass somewhere within, simultaneously from afar it becomes positively gravitational.
The first two records of the series are rightfully considered among the finest embodiments of contemporary minimalism, symbolic documents of afro-futurism. Re:Vision series restarts with Steve Poindexter’s timeless classic “Computer Madness”. We are very honored and excited to be able to re-release this beast of a track! It’s hard to imagine that this was really created over 2 decades ago. So the task at hand was to find the right contemporaries to revise this masterpiece, we didn’t have to look far to find the man for the job: Function is an old friend here at THEMA, and things got even better when he brought in Jerome Sydenham to co-produce the second treatment. It’s thus with great pride we announce our Re:Vision of Computer Madness, featuring two resolutely modern reinterpretations of Poindexter’s classic. The original by Poindexter dates all the way from 1989 and is a brief, headlong rush into drum machine-fueled raw acid and has long been a staple of the genre for many as well as the first release on the seminal Musique Records. We wanted to start off with a stomper, so for the whole A side, we have Function with occasional co-conspirator Sydenham with an unstoppable driving interpretation that straightens the busy drums of the original into a pounding techno pulse and takes repeated, changing portions of the original acid line as its central riff. Much of the action here occurs in the dirty, growling bass the pair add to the lower register; this is peak time damage for the most unrelenting floors. On the flip side we start off with Function’s deep, dubbed out reinterpretation, but it soon strides forward into the style of psychedelic but jacking techno familiar from his recent, more extroverted output. Even at almost double the length of the original, there’s still a palpable aura of reverence to the way he approaches the track; it should come as no surprise that he ranks it highly in his favorites list. Then of course we finish off with Poindexter’s original 1989 version, with all its original bang and glory. Still sounds fresh and as inspiring as it did the first time we heard this way back when...Functioning as a reunion for friends as well as a re-evaluation of past and present achievements, Re:Vision looks back to the rich past while still moving unstoppably into the future. Look out for the next 2 releases in the Re:Vision series that’s following up next! It’s been awhile since we at THEMA visited our Re:Vision series, where we pay homage to those that have influenced us and bring historical accomplishments into contemporary focus. It started with DJ Slip’s classic “Available Light” (THEMA017) featuring two incredibly well sought after remixes of the celebrated original by Franco Cinelli and Mikael Stavöstrand. Now revisiting the series with renewed dedication, we’ve carefully selected three classic underground tracks that reverberate in past and present for re-evaluation by a cadre of contemporary techno’s finest talent.

*Twelve years ago Tresor Records released Terrence Dixon's debut album 'From The Far Future' - a personal homage to the art and ancestry of techno, culminating in a discursive and dream-like course through the genre's many tomes, complete with subtle nods to key protagonists such as Kraftwerk, Derrick May and Juan Atkins. A luminescent and ethereal catalogue of tracks awash with shimmery synths and taught rhythmical programming - that still holds true today, 'From The Far Future' made for a stunning first full length that cemented Dixon's already proven credentials from his Population One work and Utensil Records foundations. *After a string of stylistically rich releases - including another album, 'Train Of Thought', this time for Cologne-based label Yore Records - the Detroit native returns to Tresor Records with 'From The Far Future Pt.2' - an ambitious, scopey and deeply personal sequel." 'From The Far Future' was special in many ways. It's over 12 years later and seems like yesterday to me, it really does," says Dixon. " 'From The Far Future Pt.2' is my real life drama playing out before your ears, it has everything on this album that has something to do with where I live. I wanted to make this album as huge as it could be. This is a statement album. production, he made his first contact with Techno by working for a local club

During his 20s, while living between Montreal, Canada and Marseille, France,
it was revealed to Benjamin he suffered from a heavy bipolar disorder. As a
reaction, he started losing himself in free parties and increasingly dangerous
habits.
Gradually learning to love himself despite his flaws, he kicked his risk-taking
after he realized the love of music prevailed over anything else.
Equipped with a strong desire to share his vision despite not being able to
perform as a DJ, Benjamin started a youtube channel and a collective named
Listening Blue.

Coming from a culturally diverse and deeply rooted music family, becoming a music producer of varied taste was an inevitable path. His father was a well known radio host in the city of Brasilia back in the 80's. It was there where Delaze discovered his love for music. Being surrounded by his dad's massive vinyl collection enabled Delaze to appreciate the classics. For his first EP, Sino selected three tracks. Bloody Samba as the title suggest is inspired by the heat of Brazilian carnaval. Ain't Hot is deep and funky oscillating between techno and house. Discoordination goes disco. More

Parallel is the bold debut album from rising star Dosem. The Catalan producer behind such hits as ‘Silent Drop’ and the sexy smash ‘Beach Kisses’ unveils his futuristic vision on a double album comprised of ‘Dosem’ and ‘Sendo’, that take listeners from Girona’s sultry shores to the throbbing heart of the world’s best dancefloors. Officially four years in the making, Parallel is the product of a fascination with sound that stretches back to Dosem’s childhood, when he tried to capture in music the images of his favourite sci-fi films. Though his methods have matured there is a boyish sense of wonder that echoes through the album. A sense of joy and discovery underpins the glistening melodies of Parallel, taking listeners on a trip through wondrous realms of time, space and emotion. Part one, ‘Dosem’, draws on past and present to project the listener into the future: a future where delicate yet propulsive techno tunes like ‘Tannhauser Gate’ and ‘Silent Drop’ sidle up and stir the dancefloor with a synth-plated swizzle stick. Like much of the finest electronic music of recent times, Parallel moves beyond the stereotype of machine music and boldly reclaims the heart and soul of techno. Standout track ‘True Elements’ is a textbook example, marrying a glorious female vocal to a sharp, clean almost stark skeleton of purist electronica. Elsewhere, Dosem delves into memory to recreate moments such as ‘Diagonal’ – a tuneful snapshot of a late-night walk along Barcelona’s famous Avinguda Diagonal with a girlfriend. ‘Sendo’ projects different elements of Dosem’s musical identity. It delivers here a cleverly produced fusion of tribal-esque grooves, Samba Jazz and Funk amalgamated onto its firm foundation of its dancefloor Techno roots. With the help of legendary guest artists such as 70's Brazilian Samba Rock Marku Ribas, Sao Paolo's Samba virtuoso Bocato and Techno hero Technasia, amongst others, Renato conveys a combination of sonic subtleties and frenetic nuances that takes the listener through a myriad of emotions. A first fresh album sure to build on you, it is both a gem to listen in a relaxed state of mind as well when engaged in lightning pace. It's in 2007, after more than 10 years of production and performances, that Renato felt he finally reached the maturity and level of eclecticism required to work on a bigger scale project. He spent the next two years working on the production of his first album, 16 Billion Drum Kicks. With the mainstream Techno style moving to a minimal, darker and melancholic sound, the album finds an alternative, conveying a global positive mood and dancefloor energy. It is an experiment that combines organic sounds with electronic music and features many Brazilian Jazz and Samba musicians, such as the 60 years-old Samba-Rock legend Marku Ribas on the track Cosmic Man, and the wellrespected trombone player Bocato, in an unexpected Samba-Jazz version of Pontapé. Techno producer and long-lasting friend Technasia also collaborated closely with Renato at the different stages of the production of the album, including mixing and mastering. It's with this project that the two fellas realised they could bring the collaboration to the next level, and came up with the idea of a Live/ DJ performances series entitled Sino Live!, a mix of mashups of their original tracks together with loop and re-edits of well-known Techno classics. The newly formed duo performed during summer 2008 at several festivals, including Monegros (Spain), Electromind (France) and Wire (Japan). More
