Incredible, stone cold classic house music from the mighty Wayne Gardiner, a truly underrated producer whose output has remained evergreen over the decades and is definite deep house royalty. 'Moments In House' is from 1990, unbelievable really when you hear how fresh it sounds today. The clue is in the title, this is a killer version of Art Of Noise's seminal 'Moments In Love', a landmark record in itself. Gardiner pays tribute to the Art with his stripped, funky and driving use of their infamous pads and tones, a nod to the NYC / NJ clubs where records such as 'Moments In Love' would have been deemed the classics of the day. 'Just A Touch' is on the flip, a beautifully deep and bassline driven cut that evokes the spirit of Larry Heard, but doesn't borrow too heavily from him while carving out it's own late night sonic niche. One for the dancers and the lovers of the deepness. It's hard to top records like this, from the dawn of house music's golden age, innocent and uncomplicated yet oozing with soul and depth. Groove Patrol aka the 95 North crew dropped these 2 sides of heavyweight NYC Garage pressure in 1993. One listen and it's obvious the influence records like this had on UK producers and scenes. Swinging, funked out and tough, all at the same time, 'Need your love' is here across 3 mixes. The original mix itself sounding the most UK-centric for sure. If soulful, underground US House is your bag you'll be needing this reissue for sure! Absolutely oozing class, classic material. 'Dancin to the music' is the B-side, 2 mixes feature, again and it's that 95 North sound - drenched in soul, yet street at the same time. Both versions are hard enough for the heads, but musical enough for the dancers who are deep in the speaker stack. Brilliant stuff for House lovers old and new. When Armand Van Helden pronounced 'Todd invented the game. The rest of us are just playing it' he articulated a feeling that had existed in the house music community ever since Todd Terry became the toast of the dancefloor with a brash, brand new sound that combined the rhythms of house with the attitude of hip hop. Those early productions, struck through with raw energy, low-fi production and heavily manipulated samples set the tone to come for New York house and in the process, propelled Todd to one of the first internationally known DJ/producers.
His arrival at Strictly Rhythm was a game changer. The fledgling label had already scored its first underground hit with Logic's The Warning, but Todd was the first really established name through the door and others were quick to follow his lead. Soon enough he produced his own club hit for Strictly, Can You Feel It by CLS, a record that went on to become a rave classic and a gold standard go-to track for sampling thanks to its iconic keyboard stab. For his return to Strictly, Todd revives the CLS moniker for a track that acts as a kind of essential guide to his unque production style; the same raw energy, bustling beats, warped vocal, stabs and manipulated sounds that once led ecstatic
fans to coin the phrase 'Todd is God'.

2022 Repress - solid white vinyl / 180 grams

Greyscale lures a mythical name to the label's roster list for it's first release of 2020.
Mike Schommer, co-founder of the fabled Deepchord label with Rod Modell, has recently made a return to producing after a more than decade long hiatus. With his second straight vocal-centric project here titled "Come Home EP", Mike is breaking molds in the dub techno genre that few others can succeed at. The multi-talented Milly James lends her distinct voice and positive lyrics in a way that supports the music in a fantastic way much like Tikiman did with Main Street Records and Rhythm & Sound many years ago. The pairing is natural and perfectly balanced throughout the EP with neither stepping on each other's bandwidth. The beats are particularly striking and the dubbed out washes are subliminal and very catchy.
The title track "Come Home" will have everyone looking for the dance floor while "Breathe" & "Cut You Down" are steeped in traditional dub sounds. This record has something for everyone. Deepchord's "Ocean remix" of "Breathe" by the amazing Rod Modell completes the 4 tracker with a return to the roots of the genre they so much helped define. Mike Schommer and Rod Modell together once again on the same release. "Come Home" truly has a unique and special meaning here. 2020 is kicking off in grand style for Greyscale with one of Mike Schommer's most personal releases yet!
It's awesome to have Mike back active and a pleasure to have him on Greyscale. Lovingly released on 180 gram white vinyl with beautiful photography by Kristina Petrosiene. A must have for aficionados of true dub sounds.

We're always glad to hear new material from undisputed dub techno don Steve O'Sullivan. This new one on his own Mosiac label finds him facing off with Paul Simmons on a pair of deliciously deep cuts. 'Inner Glow' is given the whole of the A-side to make its mark and it does - with a slightly more soulful sound than you might expect. Rather than pure heads down underwater deepness, it's got a heart warming vocals hook and brighter chord vamps over the signature drum smoothness. 'Stilll Burnin''is a quicker cut with more radiant chords and a soulful spirit, then a Bluespirit dub of the a-side zones things out nicely.
