Livity Sound's final transmission of 2019 comes from the esteemed Freerotation resident and UntilMyHeartStops co-founder, Leif.
Quietly earning himself a well-deserved reputation for his outer-worldly production stance and forward-thinking approach to Dj-ing, Leif has spent the last decade refining his musical palette with a slew of releases including highly acclaimed LPs for Whities and UntilMyHeartStops. In 2017 he launched the TIO-Series label as a vehicle to showcase the more off-kilter rhythmical side of his own productions releasing contemporary anthems such as July V and Bluebird.
This new EP for Livity Sound continues in the exploratory TIO-series vein finding Leif in percussion mode, combining nimble rhythms, deep bass and hazy synths in his idiosyncratic style to dazzling effect.
This 12" vinyl release comes with brand new art direction from Tess Redburn in a full colour artwork reverse board sleeve.
Livity Sound is a label set up by Peverelist in 2011 as a vehicle for a raw and exploratory strain of UK techno, rooted in the heritage of UK dance music and sound system culture. It has since become one of the UK's foremost protagonists for cutting edge underground music.

After the widespread acclaim for "Shoulders Back" and "July V", Leif fires up his 10" TIO Series with another pair of dazzling, future-minded cuts for the more inquisitive dancefloor. Increasingly he's been moving away from house and techno conventions towards intriguing broken beat variations, and that's apparent in abundance on this new release. "Bluebird" rides on a set of tough but dynamic drum ripples, but the stand-out element is the gorgeous twinkling arpeggio that pirouettes over the top of the beat. "Number 13" meanwhile takes a moodier, dubbier approach without losing that deft programming, harmonic warmth and crafty rhythmic interplay that has become Leif's calling card in recent times.

Hot on the heels of Ornate Music's last release featuring the bumping house business of Digs, the imprint set their sights on Welsh producer Leif, who has been turning heads with his masterful deep house for labels like Fear Of Flying and Fina since 2003. Leif has been good enough to grace us with a bumper four track E.P. featuring a tingling special guest vocal from Welsh songstress Donna Lea, whose voice resonates through your chest on title track, 'So Long'. Sticking with the land of daffodils & dragons, a chance meeting at Freerotation festival spawned an instant remix request. German groovecat Move D on hearing 'So Long' immediately saw an opportunity to put his stamp on the record. The result is a low-slung roller whose heart remains firmly rooted to the floor. Joining it on the A is murmuring bass heavy 'Tell You Something', while on the flip, 'Bide the Time' pays testament to the early shuffling NYC garage sound.

An opening of the portal, Friend is the culmination of a decade of K’s work; the gates of which gleam like a slow drip of melodic infusion, at once a remedy and an inquiry. Friend encapsulates a lifelong praxis of intuitive music making, delivering a more precise and controlled sound, with versions of songs shifting into focus like recovered memories. Feeling her way through textures, a return to an intimacy and clarity of voice with a melding of refined technique, these soundscapes lay down a framework over time that traces the history of her practice.

james K has been a cosmic point of the aesthetic underground across the world, as a vocalist, producer, artist and collaborator. Her breathy, lilting vocals have floated across some of the past year’s best music. Expanding and ethereal, they make you feel like the call is coming from inside the house. You can trace touch points across her lengthy catalogue, spanning from the foundational urgency of 2013’s debut Rum EP, to the prismatic elasticity of PET (She Rocks!/Dial), to the strange-faced, visceral and, at times, sepulchral intoxication of Random Girl (Incienso), to the universal ecstasy of trip-hop lullaby ‘Scorpio’ (AD 93). To this day, her ??transmutative career has led K to amass a bouquet of collaborations with artists like Heith, Moin, Fergus Jones + Huerco S., Priori, Yves Tumor, Drew McDowall, LEYA, and others.

Friend is K’s return to the core; each song anchored by the past, present and future: all inherently connected, yet each compressing its own raw emotion, transmuting across a spectrum of fully realized manifestations. K holds a prism to the personal and reflects it outwards, illuminating her blues with a vibrant acceptance of love. Based in New York where she was born and has lived most of her life, there is a constant evolution of the city which she embodies sonically, like the growth, decay and push, pull of relationships and spaces. At the crux of these crossroads is the homespun and ever-evolving DIY rave culture which continues to embody and cycle through lives of its own. This ecology spans across geographical lines and remains the touchstone and core of the james K vocation: the backbone and infrastructure from which her distinctive command of interwoven guitar and electronic arrangements ultimately coalesces. Grafting fragments of the real and the surreal is the provenance she draws from in her thoughtful and emotive international performances including Dekmantel, Sustain Release, Mutek, iii Points, and more. Her international recognition has guided her to the stages of both her contemporaries and pioneers: some of these including James Ferraro, Robert Aiki Aubrey Lowe, Morton Subotnick, Nick Leon, Arushi Jain, Malibu, and Priori, among others.

Friend was written and produced in studios between New York and Montreal; featuring collaborations with contemporaries and friends, Special Guest DJ, Francis Latrielle, Ben Bondy, Patrick Holland, Hank Jackson, and Adam Feingold. The new record is anchored by K’s penchant for melody at the forefront, which feature her ‘heavenly vocals. Drummer, percussionist and composer Valentina Magaletti (Moin, Holy Tongue, Vanishing Twin) has

"Kind Regards" is the second duo release from guitarist Oren Ambarchi and drummer Eric Thielemans, out via AD 93. The record captures an expansive performance in Poitiers, France in November 2023. First working together in an unpredictable trio with minimalist legend and eccentric extraordinaire Charlemagne Palestine, Ambarchi and Thielemans quickly established a remarkable musical chemistry that led to an ongoing series of duo concerts, including the performance documented on their LP Double Consciousness (Matière Mémorie, 2023). 12th Isle founding member Stewart Brown and London-based percussionist Pike present six tracks born out of preparations for live shows at Cafe Oto and The Three Wheel Drive festival, the culmination of collaborating on ‘No Direction’ from the first Material Things album (with DJ support from Donato Dozzy, Orpheu The Wizard, Not Waving, I-Sha, Donna Leake, Optimo and Huntley & Palmers).

Inspired by various traditions of experimentalism, the pair touch upon reference points such as Eliane Radigue and Nurse With Wound’s “Soliloquy for Lilith” (on “Coastal Town”), as well as the wider canon of motorik, dub and drone practitioners over the past 60 years. Palmkids is a creative duo/studio with its own production line based in Pontevedra (Galicia). Among other projects such as PALMCO RADIO, this EP is the result of the union and friendship between Palmkids and the Galician label Must Be On Wax. On this EP, Bruss presents his vision of 90s Brazilian Baile Funk, fusing the pulsating rhythms of Baile Funk and deep grooves of Miami Bass, including remixes by Juait and Street Choice.
