Where does the memory of a melody reside? Lucid phrases and half-remembered intonations buried somewhere, folded into times and places. 9 Airs took shape during an unconscious reconnection with music long since forgotten; an instinctive recall for melodies played out on guitar, low whistle and voice. Recordings of these revived melodies became the starting point for new pieces, the audio manipulated, processed and folded back into the fabric.

Livity Sound's final transmission of 2019 comes from the esteemed Freerotation resident and UntilMyHeartStops co-founder, Leif.
Quietly earning himself a well-deserved reputation for his outer-worldly production stance and forward-thinking approach to Dj-ing, Leif has spent the last decade refining his musical palette with a slew of releases including highly acclaimed LPs for Whities and UntilMyHeartStops. In 2017 he launched the TIO-Series label as a vehicle to showcase the more off-kilter rhythmical side of his own productions releasing contemporary anthems such as July V and Bluebird.
This new EP for Livity Sound continues in the exploratory TIO-series vein finding Leif in percussion mode, combining nimble rhythms, deep bass and hazy synths in his idiosyncratic style to dazzling effect.
This 12" vinyl release comes with brand new art direction from Tess Redburn in a full colour artwork reverse board sleeve.
Livity Sound is a label set up by Peverelist in 2011 as a vehicle for a raw and exploratory strain of UK techno, rooted in the heritage of UK dance music and sound system culture. It has since become one of the UK's foremost protagonists for cutting edge underground music.

After the widespread acclaim for "Shoulders Back" and "July V", Leif fires up his 10" TIO Series with another pair of dazzling, future-minded cuts for the more inquisitive dancefloor. Increasingly he's been moving away from house and techno conventions towards intriguing broken beat variations, and that's apparent in abundance on this new release. "Bluebird" rides on a set of tough but dynamic drum ripples, but the stand-out element is the gorgeous twinkling arpeggio that pirouettes over the top of the beat. "Number 13" meanwhile takes a moodier, dubbier approach without losing that deft programming, harmonic warmth and crafty rhythmic interplay that has become Leif's calling card in recent times.

On the back of an acclaimed LP on his own UMHS label, Freerotation resident Leif takes his woozy grooves and lush atmospherics for a trackier spin on Galdoors. Macro Beat's broken latin groove propels the A1 through layers of bubbling dub synths and twinkling atmospherics. Moment Beat shares the first track's club focus, but this time chimes unfurl over a low-slung groove that leaves things perfectly poised for a change in direction. On the B, Tumbler picks up the pace once more with highs and arpeggios that pulse and slide around each other restlessly, before Untitled wraps up with a beatless and beautiful flourish.

Hot on the heels of Ornate Music's last release featuring the bumping house business of Digs, the imprint set their sights on Welsh producer Leif, who has been turning heads with his masterful deep house for labels like Fear Of Flying and Fina since 2003. Kicking off with "Circumstance 4", whose smooth organ refrain drifts over a lightly rolling groove, the vibe switches up with "Every Cloud", whose gentle jazz-inspired piano and abstract, dubbed out soundscape is strongly reminiscent of Floating Points more freeform productions. However, it's "Each Day Made New" that provides the EP's most surprising moment, an Andres style hip-hop track with a cut-up, sunshine drenched quality calling Recloose to mind.

Leif has been good enough to grace us with a bumper four track E.P. featuring a tingling special guest vocal from Welsh songstress Donna Lea, whose voice resonates through your chest on title track, 'So Long'. Sticking with the land of daffodils & dragons, a chance meeting at Freerotation festival spawned an instant remix request. German groovecat Move D on hearing 'So Long' immediately saw an opportunity to put his stamp on the record. The result is a low-slung roller whose heart remains firmly rooted to the floor. Joining it on the A is murmuring bass heavy 'Tell You Something', while on the flip, 'Bide the Time' pays testament to the early shuffling NYC garage sound. More

Fear of Flying return after a lengthy hiatus to celebrate their 10 year anniversary 6 months after it happened. So, tracks from label mainstay BLM butt up against newer artists from across the EU, combining together to make a flavoursome sonic stew.

Having provided a remix for the label back in 2010 Ethyl & Flori now release their first full ep for the label, ‘The Last Ninja’ kicks things off with an unmistakable old school tech-house feel which to us at FOF recalled the classic ‘Architecture’ dj mix by Terry Francis with it’s punchy kick, sharp percussion and imbued uplifting warmth. ‘Fornjot’ by Flori on the flip is a different proposition, although still deeply entrenched in a throwback to yesterdays production stylings, this is a much more techno orientated groove with the tracks repeated metallic bass riff anchoring the track in a gloriously hypnotic yet fresh way.

Ivano Tetelepta returns to duty on FOF after his well received 'True Colours' LP with a veritable potpourri of tracks in collaboration with various cohorts. First up Ivano's collaboration with Steve Siwalette twists and turns with a steppas' beat whilst melodic licks build the track up to it's anthemic break. 'Give Me Something So I Can Dance' w/Alex Jansen roughs things up with a low-slung dirty groove whist Ben Buiendijk injects an acidic flavour into his collaboration before Ivano & Bas Amro delve deeper with the sweetly melancholic tones of 'Manolia'.

Nail provides the lead track for FOF's latest vinyl only excursion - originally produced in the same time period as the classic tracks on the 'Ode Rammel' reissue ep earlier in the year, 'Glazed' lay dormant on one of Nail's DAT for many years before being rediscovered and given it's first airing now on FOF. Chunky roughed up house beats are the order of the day here, a real peak time groove. New talent 'Harry McCanna', resident at London's infamous 'Undersound' nights, debuts with 'Act 1', a beautifully subtle bassline driven groove that rises above the pack with it's super warm pad lending the track a warm and fuzzy hypnotic edge. Romanian talent 'Zece' kicks off the flipside with the most contemporary offering; a breakbeat laden groove with a fx laden vocal snatch underpinned by that all important b-line. 'Sonodab' rounds things off with a beautifully deep and melodic slice of electro on 'Brown Study', the percussive elements giving rise to a hazy melodic pattern for those early hour excursions. More

Roundtree could be the alias of a very well known (perhaps legendary) producer who might want to remain anonymous. We're not saying, or perhaps we just did, I'm not sure. Anyhow, two rather crisp housers on offer here, 'G-String Diva' with it's sharp as nails percussion and female spoken vocal which lends the track a nicely sleazy edge and 'No Need For the V' with it's prominent baseline driven grove. Roger Gerressen switches to the main FOF label for his next release, 'Liberal' taking up the entirety of the A side with a killa' groove resplendent with knife edged percussion and tripped out synth stabs. Flipsides 'Mint' goes subaquatic with a serious slice of heads down bizinizz - a male spoken vocal refrain repeats throughout to give a hypnotic edge. Lastly, Roger teams up with his buddy Smokin' G on 'Drunk Game', super rounded, housed up beats and an undulating synth / string line permeate the groove lending the ep a sense of levity.

The first of two remix discs of Ivano's excellent LP. Up first are Bristol residents 'Outboxx' who bring a slick electro vibe to '113'; Chilled and melodic with a classic sounding b-line, this is one of the best remixes to feature on the label to date. Flip for two remixes by Roger Gerressen, a member of the ESHU collective along with Mr Tetelepta. His '117' remix is a slick house affair again with the b-line very much in the fore. His take on '119' is a much deeper affair, dubbed in it's outlook with the melancholic piano stabs of the original a main feature.

Fear of Flying delve into 2013 with a look back to the past with this solid 4 tracker of tracks from Nottingham's Nail. Originally released on the UK's revered DIY Discs imprint all the tracks on this ep have proven hard to get hold of over the preceding years with nary a copy available on Discogs for anything less than a King's Ransom. 'Clear My Mind' was recently featured on Dyed Soundorom's DJ Mag covermount mix whilst 'Try' was included on Andrew Weatherall's early 'Essential' mixes and 'Til The Feelings Gone' was a standout on the recent Fabric compilation by Zip. With a pedigree like that its an easy choice to make, especially with the bonus cut 'Optimus' which proves to be the tougher of the 4 tracks giving a nice rounded edge to the ep.

For the next instalment on their vinyl only imprint, Fear of Flying look to producers old & new for the second volume of their various artist ep. Two distinct flavours are packed on the vinyl with the A side being the housier of the two; Schatrax provides 'Just For Fun' - following on perfectly from his crossover hit 'Get it Right' with the same deeply phunked up sample based vibe. Ivano Tetelepta continues his hot streak on the label with 'Lot', very classic sounding in it's approach with a real blissed out & sunkissed groove for the forthcoming hot summer months. Techno is the main staple of the flip side; The Analogue Cops offer up 'Introduction' under their OCP guise. As you'd expect from these analogue warriors the groove is raw, the samples peaking and the beats intense. New artist Ste Roberts rounds things off with 'Booze' which takes its cue from Studio 1 records of old but ups the ante with tripped out noises and a tougher edge.

Ah, Romanians. Doncha' just love 'em. Well, it appears that, yes, we very much do here at FOF as over the years we seem to have nurtured our fair share of talent haling from those shores and here we are yet again with another bright young thing in the shape of Nu Zau. 'Pason' is a dark and trippy early morning ride, haunting pads and vocal snatches really bringing home the heady vibe over the course of its 10 minute running length. 'De Ja Vu' on the flip acts as a nice counterpoint with its more optimistic outlook - a frisky tech house groover reminiscent of productions from the early days of London's Tech House scene, still with an underlying sense of trippiness but one more associated with hot shimmering days spent outdoors than Pason's sweatier dark room feel.

So, here he is again with 'Mists' a track previously unreleased but unmistakably Schatrax. Submerged beats, a skippy groove and a simple effective riff are the essence of the track while 'Keep On Loving' injects a glorious uplifting feel with a bouncing b-line and classic piano riff. Flipsides 'The Almighty' keeps things deep whilst 'Aliena's Groove' is one of Schatrax's signature tracks with it's haunting melancholic riff keeping the emotions high. More

Next up on Fear of Flying's vinyl offshoot label regular Cally joins up with good pal Andi to provide a 3 tracker of stripped down tools. 'Smelt' kicks things off with it's cavernous bass stabs and solid beats whilst 'Druma' on the flip offers up similar stripped back vibes but injects more of a groove. 'Etajul 13' is the more dancefloor friendly track on the ep with tougher beats and a driving b-line
