3. SHORT INFO:
A long-time best-seller of the MEG-AIMP collection and long out of print, this album of sanza music recorded among the Gbaya people of the Central African Republic by ethnomusicologist Vincent Dehoux was originally released on CD in 1993. It is now being reissued on vinyl and CD to coincide with the exhibition Afrosonica - Soundscapes. It features a selection of 'songs for thought': an intimate repertoire conducive to introspection, accompanied by the repetitive, meditative sound of lamellaphones.

Info
About a hundred kilometers south-west of Bamako, on the left bank of the Niger River, the Malian village of Kela is known to be home to a large community of griot musicians (jeliw) mostly belonging to the Diabaté family. Their art is recognised throughout West Africa and many griots come from all over the world to stay there, sometimes for several years, in the hope of becoming immersed in it. The six pieces for voice accompanied by guitar or traditional koni lutes were recorded in 1978 (tracks 3 to 6) and in 2019 (tracks 1 to 3), in the same traditional dwelling, which still serves as a "studio". The accompanying booklet contains the testimonies of several important musicians who took part in the recording, and evoke key elements of their universe
Points of interests
- For the fans of the traditional repertoires of Mali's famous griot musicians.
- For music lovers who love the voices accompanied by the guitar and the traditional lutes of the griots.
- Recordings made 40 years apart in the same "studio": a dwelling located in the village of Kela (Mali), from where famous lineages of griots originate.
- The text of the booklet presents many testimonies of griots, the "masters of the speech" who evoke key elements of their universe.
- Original sound archive on magnetic tapes, digitised and restored in 2019.
- Fourteen colour photographs, taken in 1978 and 2019 at the same time as the sound recordings.

Info
Commissioned by the Ethnographic Museum of Geneva (MEG), Jean-Jacques Birgé composed a work based on the MEG's International Archives of Folk Music (IAFM). Perspectives for the 22nd Century includes 31 pieces recorded between 1930 and 1952 and compiled by Constantin Br?iloiu (1893-1958), founder of the IAFM and an authoritative reference in the field of traditional music.
Perspectives for the 22nd Century is written on the basis of an anticipation scenario where the survivors of the disaster of 2152 live on the ruins of the MEG and decide to rebuild themselves from the archives discovered on site. The composition mixes acoustic instruments, some of which belong to the MEG collections, virtual instruments and sound archives.
A disturbing echo of current events, Perspectives for the 22nd Century is a sound fiction following the journey of humans who must reinvent themselves. In these times of questioning about the future of the planet and of humanity, Jean-Jacques Birgé wanted to dedicate this work to C.F. Ramuz and Vercors.
This CD is the fifth title to appear in the series of recordings published by the MEG and devoted to contemporary creations composed on the basis of its sound archives.

Info
An important inter-cultural and commercial crossroads in the centre of the Ivory Coast, the town of Bouake prospered during the 20th century around one of the richest and most colourful markets of West Africa.
Working in this town in the mid 1970s, the biologist Bernard Mondet was fascinated by the Ivorian, Ghanaian, Malian, Guinean or Voltaic musical traditions he encountered there. Armed with his Nagra tape recorder and a pair of microphones, he collected a vast number of sound documents in which Senufo and Bobo balafons, lute harps kora of the Manding, Peul and Mossi flutes and Birifor musical bows are mingled skilfully.
Points of interests
- For fans of the traditional repertoires of African griots and their main instruments: the kora and the balafon.
- A glimpse of musical life in the 1970s in Bouake, the second most populated city in Ivory Coast.
- A collection of traditional music recorded with Peul, Bobo, Mandingue and Birifor musicians from various regions of Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso, Guinea and Mali.
- Original sound archives on magnetic tapes, digitized and restored in 2019.
- Twelve black and white and colour photographs, taken at the same time as the sound recordings
- The very first CD to be released in the "Archives" series on the new MEG-AIMP label, which continues the collection founded in 1984 by Laurent Aubert and directed by Madeleine Leclair since 2012.

Info
This CD, released on the occasion of "The Fairy Tale Factory" exhibition, contains the eight tales at the heart of the scenography imagined for the exhibition. These stories from traditional repertoires have been handed down orally over several generations and travelled across Europe, from the Mediterranean to Scandinavia and the Celtic countries to the Balkans.
Rewritten in a contemporary version by the writer Fabrice Melquiot, these stories, performed by eight men and women storytellers aged from ten to ninety-nine, are presented in a sound setting composed by Gabriel Scotti who drew his inspiration from recordings conserved in the MEG's Archives internationales de musique populaire. The tales in music are followed by the eight musical tracks of G. Scotti's compositions.
The booklet presents the texts of the tales accompanied by drawings, paintings and photographs of dioramas in paper cut-outs, done by Carll Cneut, Camille Garoche, Kalonji and Lorenzo Mattotti, the four illustrators invited to bring these tales to life for the exhibition.

4. SHORT INFO:
RWR's latest release comes straight from Berlin's underground Electronic Jazz scene. Simon Herody, originally from the South of France but living in the German capital since 2020, delivers an eight-track suite of ambient-informed Jazz.
The album grew out of solo gigs in hotel lobbies, low-key half improvised sets where Simon blended sequenced electronics with live sax, clarinet and flute. These in-between spaces, half-public and half-private, set the tone for Hard Lounge: an eight-track trip that's ambient enough to fade into the background, but rich enough to keep you engaged.
There's a clear love for 80s New Age and Electronic Jazz, but it's not just nostalgia - the album also channels leftfield Japanese Pop and Ambient. A big turning point was hearing Heisei No Oto (that killer compilation on Music From Memory) & Music For Dance & Theatre, Vol. 2, also released on MFM, which blew the doors wide open in terms of texture and mood.
While working shifts at Motif, a bar and record shop in Neukölln, Simon started deep-listening to these kinds of records, thinking about how sound can shape space and attention. Design and architecture trickled into the album's artwork, hinting at a broader idea: that music, like furniture or lighting, can be part of how a space feels - part of the design. That blend of curiosity and immersion became the blueprint for Hard Lounge, a record that plays with presence, atmosphere and memory.

7” with picture sleeve
A. Place Where I Go
B. Kapi Ngalyananni
Short info:
Luritja artist Keanu Nelson traces the afterglow of Wilurarrakutu with a two-track 7”, cut from the same home-studio haze with producer Yuta Matsumura. The pair continue their singular weave of community-rooted storytelling and elemental electronics, shaped with the gear at hand.
Hints of YouTube hip-hop and emotionally charged piano ripple through ‘Place Where I Go’, a dubbed-out reflection on the daily realities of life in Papunya, Nelson’s desert home. ‘Kapi Ngalyananni’ finds Nelson singing in language, a mesmeric water song bridging the personal and ancestral, with elevating chords, clapsticks, and Matsumura’s parched melodica lines.
These remote dispatches carry a vital new voice from the heart of the desert, where tradition and sonic experimentation delicately converge.

4. SHORT INFO:
“In May 2024, the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul, where I was born and have lived all my
life, faced the worst climate catastrophe in its history. After weeks of relentless, torrential rain, its
rivers overflowed, flooding much of the region. Entire cities were submerged. More than 170
people lost their lives, and hundreds of thousands of animals perished. Amid this dystopian and
desperate situation, flux was composed and recorded in about a week. Initially, the album was
created solely as an exercise to maintain my mental health. But when I finished it, I realized that it
had become a kind of “sound portrait” of this dark moment—days filled with pain and suffering. Yet
it was also a meditation on the ephemerality and fragility of life, and the struggle to survive.”

4. SHORT INFO:
"Wind, Again" is Sary Moussa’s fourth studio album and second album on Other People. Based
between France and Lebanon, Moussa returns with a riveting electro-acoustic album informed by his
ever-changing relationships to space, listening, and resonance as well as his growing interest in the
study of harmonics in electronic and electro-acoustic music.
Years in the making, “Wind, Again” approaches distinct musical worlds and languages by bringing
together improvisations by musicians performing on Western and West Asian instruments such as the
Hammond organ, clarinet, saz, and buzuk with electronic arrangements and textures. Rather than
force a rapprochement of these musical worlds through the instruments, and keenly aware of the
weighty sonic histories they carry, Moussa proposes another way through which they can exist
together in contemporary electronic composition.
Composed of six tracks, each of which demonstrate an array of recording and processing techniques,
the album generates moments of tension produced by the synthesis of textural, tonal, and harmonic
encounters that Moussa calls “shadows”, which outline an impressionistic musical language, existing
at the edge of familiarity. Such moments permeate tracks like “Everywhere at once” and “Violence”
that open with the Hammond organ and the saz respectively and slowly reveal an expansive field of
sounds that showcases each of the musicians’ characteristic performances and Moussa’s densely
layered textures. It is a latent yet unrelenting tension through which the composer invokes rather than
represents a collective experiential state, especially familiar to those who know his environment. In
“Wind, Again” these shadows are articulations of sounds steeped in traditions they are never quite
tethered to. Such articulations are implied and alluded to, they play within a musical reference without
the latter explicitly existing in the recording, always teetering, never completely here nor there.
Sonically and musically, the album is fueled by the cultural, social, and personal realities that Moussa
was brought up and lives in.
Both personal and musical ties with the musicians who feature on the album is central to Moussa’s
practice. In the title track “I will never write a song about you”, musician Julia Sabra opens with rolled
piano chords, followed by Paed Conca on clarinet and Abed Kobeissy on buzuk, before Moussa’s
electronic processing pieces together, lifts, and sustains the melodic direction of the track that
emerged from the musicians’ separate improvisations. For Moussa: “The initial connection between
the three performances was made on a track that no longer existed, the original recording was both
an obstacle and necessary step for the track we hear on the record. It’s as if we were all telling
different stories and I pulled on the thread that held them together”. The track, and more generally the
record, is tinged with a melancholy of things lost, though it never fully succumbs to it.
“Everything inside a circle”, Moussa’s most personal track and for which he provides the only vocals
on the record, harkens back to a childhood memory of listening to music with his mother in a car:
“There was a sound I was looking for — a memory of a sound and how I first heard it. This track is a
hybrid of that memory and what I wanted to make of it”. The track relies heavily on generativesystems and perhaps embodies most the ambiguous quality of the record’s music in its refusal to be
pinned down by one musical tradition or another.
“Wind, Again” is both familiar and alien, cold and warm; it pays homage to the mechanics, materials,
and tactility of the instruments and converges acoustic and synthetic spaces. What anchors the sound
of the album are the elements of a whole that cannot find its own idiosyncrasy and that is precisely
why Moussa’s album is a tour de force.

between France and Lebanon, Moussa returns with a riveting electro-acoustic album informed by his
ever-changing relationships to space, listening, and resonance as well as his growing interest in the
study of harmonics in electronic and electro-acoustic music.

Looking behind the obvious, forming an orchestra out of everyday surroundings.
Finding the essence in the trivial, clarity in the complex, poetry in simplicity. All of this is part of the goal, meaning and character of Oh No Noh, the project of Leipzig-based guitarist, robot programmer, magnetic tape crumpler and composer Markus Rom. All of this floats and shines through "As Late As Possible", the third Oh No Noh album, which will be released on April 4th, 2025.
The focus of this album, as the title "As Late As Possible" suggests, was patience. A creative lingering, the selfimposed principle of letting ideas mature, consciously leaving them lying and looking at them again in order to discover
and refine new things. Always looking for new ways of producing musical sounds, Markus Rom has been blurring the boundaries between LoFi, Indietronica, Postrock, Kraut and Pop with his solo project for several years. His main
instruments for this are electric guitar, MIDI robots, tapes and samples. For “As Late As Possible”, Rom expands his setup with a new sound sources (acoustic guitar, banjo, organ) and musical guests: Damian Dalla Torre (Squama) on bass clarinet and Andi Haberl (the Notwist, Sun) on drums.
“As Late As Possible” continues the signature of past releases and adds new facets. Rom's distinctive looping in and over each other is particularly evident in the tracks “Missing the Point”, “Orb” and “Almost Everywhere”. With "Loot", a straightforward and folk-pop piece finds its way onto the album and coexists with math-trained tracks like "Dog Years" or "Dot", which conjure up associations with Weilheim bands like COUCH. The tracks "Bliss of Disconnect" and "Fawn" were created in collaboration with the featured guests Liz Kosack and KMRU. The confidently unplanned is one of the principles around which Oh No Noh itself is also continuously evolving. Part of this development: the radio series "Oh No Noh Radioh", which has so far consisted of over 40 parts, for which Rom invites a guest in each episode to research music together along roughly defined concepts, ideas and inspirations. Together with technology composer Hainbach, free jazz artist Limpe Fuchs and sound artist Elsa M’Bala, for example, encounters were created whose patient search and find and whose controlled coincidences also characterize “As Late As Possible” – but here concentrated, concise, and with all the love of sound and experimentation always committed to the song. With this will to create a song-like narrative, to move, to develop, “As Late As Possible” remains suspended
and searching. Its concentration seems light-footed, its happy accidents well-placed, the melancholic beauty of outdated technologies, forgotten musical toys and broken noise sources always forward-looking. Music like the one
that comes about when someone programs an entire robot band, which then becomes just a friendly part of the whole.
The artwork for “As Late As Possible” was created by Leipzig comic artist Anna Haifisch. The album was mixed by Adam Lenox and mastered by Frida Claeson Johannsson. It will be released on April 4, 2025 by TELESKOP on vinyl
and digital.

On Midnite Spares, Australian music devotees András and Instant Peterson hold a candle to overlooked avant-pop and electronic works by antipodean artists and outsiders working through the 80s and 90s. Through co-presenting weekly radio show Strange Holiday, the duo slowly upturned their locale for inspiration - archives, country bookstores, private collections and convenience stores, searching for a place to anchor their own identities in the oceans of the island continent. The 10 tracks acknowledge a minor history, passed on via a network of friends, friends of friends, the libraries of radio station 3RRR and more often than not, the artists themselves.
Renowned mixed media artist Maria Kozic enters with the mysterious downbeat of Trust Me, her partner Philip Brophy responsible for digital and analogue sonic construction. A recurring character in András and Instant Peterson's investigations, Brophy reappears with a score piece from his divisive feature film Salt, Saliva, Sperm and Sweat, recorded as ??? (pronounced "Tch Tch Tch").
Other links are thread under the surface. Melbourne inner north experimentalist David Chesworth explores his Australiana songcraft leading Whadya Want?. The short lived project also featured Philip Jackson, whose duo The Couch is restored from Fast Forward's dance issue - a pioneering cassette fanzine published by early-80s 3RRR personality Bruce Milne.
The collection binds a certain musicianship that's indifferent to fame or chart success, although some artists unwittingly experienced this before and after. Poets of the Machine's Grace Jones techno-wave was a modest moment for Coral Island and Red Stripe, an English migrant who once celebrated a #1 UK Christmas single with an acapella cover of Yazoo, while the morbid coming of age electronics of Foot and Mouth is a lesser known prologue to Sean Greenway and Matty Whittle's rise as legendary teen punks heroes God. Quickly becoming a modern dancefloor hit, Mumbo Jumbo's sole release Wind It Up is only now basking in it's brilliance.
The remaining figures shape the diversity further. There's Sydney dub addicts The Igniters, Mix's groovy synth song about masturbation and the Cameron Allen/Graham Bidstrup soundtrack for petrol headed ozploitation film, Midnite Spares - the compilation's namesake.

Short info:
Efficient Space charts Ghost Riders’ North American roadmap, crashing into 1973 New York to ignite the unfiltered teen dreams of Dennis Harte.
In the late ’60s, 11-year-old prodigy Dennis Harte was handed a Sears-bought Silvertone 1448, its in-case amplifier primed for street-level incantations. Recruiting two neighbourhood friends, the trio hammered out raw rhythms, drawing in Brooklyn’s wandering bohemians, keen to glimpse a prepubescent Alex Chilton in the making.
Also jamming with his older brothers, Bart and John, a family friend introduced the siblings to budding music exec Carl Edelson, who had spent the better part of two decades hustling through a string of local labels. A father figure of sorts, Edelson backed them immediately, facilitating sessions at the famed A-1 Sound Studios and Sanders Recording Studio and pressing four 7”s on his newly minted Roundtable Records. To maximise his chances of courting major labels, he strategically assigned each release a different artist name - Dennis Harte, Pure Madness, Harte Brothers and the wryly titled Harte Attack.
Dennis’ emotional maturity and sheer talent bleed into the defining ‘Summer’s Over’, penned by Edelson and once recorded by mid-'60s New Jersey garage vocal group The Wouldsmen. Morphing into an unfathomably teenage, blue-eyed soul/psych lament, it aches for a season slipping away forever. Its Harte Attack edition counterpart - the candied ballad ‘Running Thru My Mind’ - delivers unison harmonies and kinetic guitar interplay with a streetwise punch, channeling the spirit of NYC-area icons The Rascals, The Lovin’ Spoonful, and The Youngbloods.
Roaring like the Spencer Davis Group, Pure Madness’ organ-driven bruiser ‘Freedom Rides’ screams of biker gangs, yet its true subject - ’60s civil rights activists the Freedom Riders - looms as another towering theme for an adolescent perspective. Meanwhile, the loose, bluesy ruckus ‘Treat Me Like a Man’ digs back into Edelson’s catalogue, covering the Beatles-inflected Levittown group The Shandels.
Though Dennis later found success touring with Wilson Pickett and now doubles as a piano tuner to the stars, these four snapshots frame ambition on its outer edge - a heartfelt homage to an unbreakable brotherhood.

Info
We Release Jazz is ecstatic (purrrr!) to announce the official reissue of Hiroshi Suzuki's glorious jazz-fusion-funk Holy Grail Cat (originally released in 1976), sourced from the original masters and available on limited edition 180 gram vinyl mastered at half speed for full audiophile sound, as well as on digipack CD. Both versions come with liner notes by Teruo Isono.
Cat was recorded in October 1975 at at Nippon Columbia Studio, while Hiroshi Suzuki was visiting his home country of Japan after moving to Las Vegas in 1971 to play with Buddy Rich and perfect his craft. Back on his old stomping grounds, the man known as Neko (Cat) immediately reunited with his dear friends for an epic two day session of groove magic. The chemistry was still intact. The skills and style had grown.
The result, Cat, is a smooth masterpiece, a deep and soulful affair where stunning trombone solos by Hiroshi Suzuki flirt with Takeru Muraoka's heavenly saxophone and the sensual rhythm section of Hiromasa Suzuki (keyboards), Kunimitsu Inaba (bass), and Akira Ishikawa (drums).
Celebrated in jazz collectors circles, in the lofi beat scene, and among music diggers around the world, Cat has become one of the most sought-after Japanese jazz albums of all time and, much like Ryo Fukui's Scenery, has fascinated old and young generations alike.

TRACKLIST:
When She Follows (Original 18 Minute Version) Rectify Dirty Little Bonus Beats When She (Reprise)
PRIVATE LISTEN LINK: https://moodymann.bandcamp.com/album/black-mahogani-ii
OVERVIEW:
Released in limited numbers in tandem with Black Mahogani back in 2004 and never repressed. Black Mahogani II was a departure from Kenny Dixon Jr's usual house based music and featured cuts from Kenny Dixon Jr's late night jazz band sessions The centrepiece is the eighteen minute 'When She Follows', a deep jazz session skittering live drum rolls into an electric Fender Rhodes, loping acoustic bass and distant saxophone all wrapped up in an amorphous vocal that drifts ever onwards like some epic detroit techno cut replayed by Gil Scott Heron's band in 1970. Incredible music. 'Rectify' follows in a similar mode, jazz in a detroit techno framework, while the final two tracks 'Dirty Little Bonus Beats' and 'When She (Reprise)' are revisions of the main cut, the former altering the bassline, adding vocal sighs and more rhythmic drums, while the latter shifts up the tempo with a wigged out techno synth element. Stone, cold.
