Even a pandemic can have its upsides. Fiesta 2000 proves this debatable statement. Conceived by Raphael Schön during a Covid-19 lockdown and originally released in 2021 as part of I’ll Be The Energy on Freeride Millenium (*thanks, guys! Ed.), it is one of those godsend tracks that cannot be duplicated, recreated or planned. The prohibition of any kind of hedonism, the yearning for collective pleasure, post-teenage-angst and rave romanticism all make up this delicious cocktail. Now served again on the Running Back subsidiary Misfit Melodies and freshly remastered, it is a hard one to put down.

Especially, since it has been supplemented with the just as charming tearjerker Hitter Mane: melancholic, hopeful and motivating in equal parts. The original of Fiesta 2000 is also backed up by remixes from Matisa respectively Sally C (who directed Gerd Janson’s attention to the track in the first place). Both brilliant in their own right, Matisa shifts the track into turbo-mode that will please the ruff necks amongst you, while Sally C brings off the feat of uniting pumping house, breakbeats and balearic piano moments in one go. Fiesta forever and ever ever!

No business, like show business; The happy pill that was the Catz ‘N Dogz liaison with Gerd Janson gets a remix treatment. Dusky, Bella Boo and Ryan Elliott put their respective and requested stamps on Modern Romance.

Ladies first: Bella Boo takes the upbeat piano house of the original into a deeper sphere. A square bass, a catchy marimba hook and some vocal sprinkles make for the aural equivalent of salted caramel. Next up are everyone’s favourite peak time sweepers Dusky who open the gates to the rave. Heavily influenced by the ingredients of the proto UK bass scenery (breakbeats, ragga bass sounds, life-affirming vocals) they place Modern Romance somewhere between N-Joi and Shut Up and Dance. If that is too much for you to swallow, Ryan Elliott might have the remedy. Storken’s „Lille Vals“ is among those type of infectious and addictive instrumentals that feel like songs without words, pop without divas or perfectly synthesized disco. Being the debut of a young and promising man from Sweden as, it received candid praise by dancers and DJs alike.
Originally „Lille Vals“ appeared as the centerpiece of Running Back’s One-swallow-sampler series, it earned its second spring on a dedicated 12inch release. Although still as much fun as the first time around, Storken’s precious little diamond gets a threepart remix treatment to season the dish. His fellow Ajaks offers a stripped down ans mesmerizing take that should make minimalists allergic sufferers of melodies happy. Newcastle’s power house Patrick Topping pulls out one of his tricks to beam it into his own world and brings out all the big elements to make it even – yes – bigger. Finally, Gerd Janson does the opposite and dubs out the highs and lows of the original to meet Augustus Pablo and Daniele Baldelli somewhere uptown.

The idea behind it: bring artists together that have never worked together due to time, place or opportunity. The Catz ‘n Dogz liaison with Gerd Janson is just that obvious - as is the result. „Modern Romance“ translates to upbeat dance music that neither shies away from vocals nor pianos and is practically the antidote to any foul mood. Or as Gerd likes to put it: „The whole thing was already laid out by the dance music masters that are Catz ’n Dogz. All I had to do was to ask Mark Barrott to help out with some piano work and finish an arrangement. When you love a record too damn much, you will soon discover whether you "got what it takes” to make it yours. Such is the case with Turbo label head Tiga, who has played 11Schnull & Newinfluenzer’s 2023 underground hit “Ich und meine Ubahn” in each and every one of his DJ sets since its non-Turbo release. But unbridled track-passion is not always enough, and sometimes one must take a step back and recognize that the music business is also a business. So our in-house Corporate Development team, which has of late been entirely focused* on figuring out how best to monetize Tintin entering the public domain, set to work, successfully licensing the original while also creating the fun and potentially life-saving opportunity to visualize just how amicable the licensing process was.

All of which brings us to the remix pack at hand. The essentially perfect electro programming and vocal performance of the 2023 original leaves virtually no angle for improvement, save for the fact that the 4:20 runtime not enough for the median touring DJ to satisfy their chatbot mistress before they must begin the exacting work of selecting and mixing the next track. As such, we enlisted producers who could interpret the song from different planes of existence, namely Chilean-German wizard Matias Aguayo, French hardstyle prodigy Krarmpf, German aesthetes Extrawelt, Hamburg electro master DJ MELL G, and Asturian highbrow god Architectural. For reference, the planes conjured by these remixes are as follows: blacked out on Ivermectin; finally beat a pay-to-win mindfulness game; voted the Greatest Living Teen Artist by the readers of US Weekly; transformed into an expressionless little muscleman as if by magic; going viral; and curing jet lag in our lifetime. It is not for us to say which remix corresponds to which realm of human experience, but we do know that it is limited to those options.

Finally, please do not invite a chatbot lover into your marriage. Your spouse cannot hope to compete. And know that this advice comes from our best understanding of current world affairs, and does not represent what a repressed British man would calling “taking the pee.” At their very best, jokes are funny, and the fate of the human bedroom is no laughing matter at all.
