Helium Robots aka Ewan Willmott comes up with new exciting music for the first release of new label Unsure. On “Miniatures” the Robots offer deep rich House Music in the tradition of their releases for Running Back and Misfit Melodies, with huge bass lines (“Flam”) and synths that are as uplifting as melancholic (“Pure Lost”). But they also explore new horizons: “Sweetie” touches the glorious days of English IDM, its abstract slow motion beats and meandering percussive patterns are sparse and stripped down, yet there’s the lush harmonies that make Sweetie strangely sweet indeed. And “Rouse” is the most beautiful electronica: hypnotic grooves and shimmering melodies, tender and full of light.

Helium Robots is Ewan Wilmott. Up until now with only two (albeit brilliant!) Dissident releases under his belt - and an album on the horizon - he might have been under most people's radar. A pity! The Helium Robots make imaginative Factory-Records-electro-balearic-disco, errr, and robot music. Two tracks of that caliber are placed on the a-side. The flip has Theo Parrish laying his gifted hands on Jarza to two different outcomes. "Translation 1" is an up-to-date Parrish space cadet trip, while the second take emphases the dark and typical Theo magic in his roots house period. Limited beautiful Robot sleeve covers. Even a pandemic can have its upsides. Fiesta 2000 proves this debatable statement. Conceived by Raphael Schön during a Covid-19 lockdown and originally released in 2021 as part of I’ll Be The Energy on Freeride Millenium (*thanks, guys! Ed.), it is one of those godsend tracks that cannot be duplicated, recreated or planned. The prohibition of any kind of hedonism, the yearning for collective pleasure, post-teenage-angst and rave romanticism all make up this delicious cocktail. Now served again on the Running Back subsidiary Misfit Melodies and freshly remastered, it is a hard one to put down.

Especially, since it has been supplemented with the just as charming tearjerker Hitter Mane: melancholic, hopeful and motivating in equal parts. The original of Fiesta 2000 is also backed up by remixes from Matisa respectively Sally C (who directed Gerd Janson’s attention to the track in the first place). Both brilliant in their own right, Matisa shifts the track into turbo-mode that will please the ruff necks amongst you, while Sally C brings off the feat of uniting pumping house, breakbeats and balearic piano moments in one go. Fiesta forever and ever ever!

No business, like show business; The happy pill that was the Catz ‘N Dogz liaison with Gerd Janson gets a remix treatment. Dusky, Bella Boo and Ryan Elliott put their respective and requested stamps on Modern Romance.

Ladies first: Bella Boo takes the upbeat piano house of the original into a deeper sphere. A square bass, a catchy marimba hook and some vocal sprinkles make for the aural equivalent of salted caramel. Next up are everyone’s favourite peak time sweepers Dusky who open the gates to the rave. Heavily influenced by the ingredients of the proto UK bass scenery (breakbeats, ragga bass sounds, life-affirming vocals) they place Modern Romance somewhere between N-Joi and Shut Up and Dance. If that is too much for you to swallow, Ryan Elliott might have the remedy. Ostgut Ton’s „best dressed chicken in town“delivers a sleek translation that is neat as a pin and wears the influence of his hometown Detroit proudly on the sleeve. „Help me find out, what I like…“

Storken’s „Lille Vals“ is among those type of infectious and addictive instrumentals that feel like songs without words, pop without divas or perfectly synthesized disco. Being the debut of a young and promising man from Sweden as, it received candid praise by dancers and DJs alike.
Originally „Lille Vals“ appeared as the centerpiece of Running Back’s One-swallow-sampler series, it earned its second spring on a dedicated 12inch release. Although still as much fun as the first time around, Storken’s precious little diamond gets a threepart remix treatment to season the dish. His fellow Ajaks offers a stripped down ans mesmerizing take that should make minimalists allergic sufferers of melodies happy. Newcastle’s power house Patrick Topping pulls out one of his tricks to beam it into his own world and brings out all the big elements to make it even – yes – bigger. Finally, Gerd Janson does the opposite and dubs out the highs and lows of the original to meet Augustus Pablo and Daniele Baldelli somewhere uptown.
