DJ Hell - Anything Anytime Extended Version
2
DJ Hell - Anything, Anytime - Solomun Remix
A1 Anything, Anytime (Extended Version)
B1 Anything, Anytime (Solomun Remix)
Left for top, right for bottom, colours for every piquant taste your deepest thoughts dare to divulge; your hankie tells tales, and orange tells the most. Anything, anytime, nothing is left off the table. An open invitation to explore and excite. Looking for a ride?
This is the story behind the third single and opening track from DJ Hell's critically-acclaimed fifth album Zukunfstmusik, 'Anything, Anytime' pays homage to the handkerchief code, a unique flagging practice most popular during the most critical creative explosion of club music.
Barbed, delicate, bittersweet and introspective, the 14-minute track's softness and gradual sense of piano-laced theatre carries certain shades of a love song. In many ways, it is…. There's love in a brute sense. Physical openness in its most honest and forthright form. But there's also a sense of romance for the most sensational outburst of hedonism and pleasure that dancefloor music ever experienced - the 70s gay movement wherein major metropolises throbbed awoke and boundaries and barriers were challenged and shattered every night.
These lightning strikes of illicit freedom, carnal energy and momentary abandonment are the deepest seeds of all forms of electronic music; sentiments that echo throughout Hell's unhurried, unrestrained salvo. Percussive connotations of leather, the cavernous reverb conjuring open industrial spaces such as you might find in New York City's meatpacking district at the time. The palpitating heartbeat, occasional flashes of sense-blurring giddy physical fizz… Up above, down below, choose your colour; while many love songs are babymakers, 'Anything, Anytime' is much more of a bed breaker.
While the original wears orange with pride, the remixes wear their own colours. The first of two remix packages, both Solomun and Argy come at Hell's original from contrasting sides. Solomun's is a light blue. The molten bass and slinky electro breakbeats creating a sensual, slippery experience that could lead to absolutely anything, it writhes and continually pleasures with every twist and turn. Argy's, meanwhile, is bold jet black. Dominant, intense and unrelenting. It's 'straight outta hell' by-line fulfilled with every sweaty arpeggiated peak and vivid flashing strobes, this is visceral, sweaty techno and there's no release without the safeword.
Two more remixes will follow imminently while the original comes complete with its own stark visual representation. In keeping with Hell's use of Tom Of Finland's cult visuals on the artwork of the album's first single 'I Want U', 'Anything, Anytime' continues to reference seminal cultural documents of the era. This time with its video; a stylised and provocative, black and white piece that riffs on the ground-breaking 1980 Al Pacino movie Cruising. An exploration of the iconography and stark fashion that visually represented progression, a celebration of overt sexuality but also a sense of restraint and composure… The calm before any storm your handkerchief may cause. Let's go cruising…

People, listen to the signals: when the club life is reawakening, DJ Hell returns with the album House Music Box (Past, Present, No Future).
In contrast to its predecessor album Zukunftsmusik (2017), with his new work Hell looks back to the glorious early days of House and Techno in Chicago, Detroit and New York City.
Obvious references are the heroes that vibrated the dancefloor from the late 80s, i.e. luminaries like Ron Hardy, Frankie Knuckles and Lil’ Louis from the Chicago house scene, or the legendary radio shows of The Electrifying Mojo from Detroit. Not to be forgotten are, of course, the NYC House of Larry Levan or the Nu Groove records from the early 90s – all of them served as musical godfathers for Hell’s House Music Box.
Back to the roots. In line with this, Hell’s opus number six emerged as a classic album: House Music Box simply comprises eight gripping new bangers from the groove manufacturer that is the super gigolo Hell. The record is not only a concept album about the beginnings of electronic DJ and club music, but also a danceable history lesson. Exemplifying that is already the superb first single: ‘Out of Control’ is a mightily stomping dancefloor monster where a killer bassline and an infectious synth riff meet. A vocal sample rightly demands ‘Don’t stop!’, because the magic that Hell created with his controllers leaves one in pure ecstasy of happiness.
The songs ‘Freakshow’ and ‘House Music’ are a musical bow for the innovative originators of house in the windy city. On ‘Freakshow’, the vocoder vocals ‘Ron Hardy is the true creator of house music’ recall the prematurely deceased DJ who was best known for his eclectic sets and radical edits. Hardy used to deejay in what was the successor of the Warehouse, the legendary ‘Music Box’ club, eponymous for the new album. On ‘House Music’, nomen est omen naturally applies: over the flawless house from the quality brand of Hell, he loops various samples, fragments of sentences such as ‘Acid comes from house music’, ‘Techno comes from house’, ‘Foundation of house music is’, or ‘Chicago house music’. Through their persistent repetition plus grooving beats, a hypnotic effect soon arrives, so that the music – thanks to the magic production of Hell – starts to speak.
On ‘Electrifying Mojo’, on the other hand, Hell honours the visionary and enigmatic Charles Johnson a.k.a. The Electrifying Mojo, whose radio show (airing from 1977 until the mid 80s) had a substantial influence on the development of techno in Detroit. As he frequently played Kraftwerk, for instance, the publicly shy Electrifying Mojo emerged as a key facilitator of future electronic music in the spirit of the Detroit-Dusseldorf axis.
Almost self-evidently, Kraftwerk - the grey eminence of German electronic music – shaped the background of Hell’s new record too, via the usage of vocoder vocals as a rhythmic element or the bass frequencies as the carrying foundation for each track. Clearly recognizable is the influence of Kraftwerk’s 1986 work Electric Café (now: Techno Pop) on the groovy track ‘Tonstrom’. Fans of the ‘industrial folk music’ will hardly be surprised, as this was Kraftwerk’s working title for the record. Along with sound poetic vocals, Hell tickles a cool funk from the warm machine sounds over nimble bass lines, as on House Music Box he uses – not only for this track – the same analogue synths from the seventies as Kraftwerk once did.
The oeuvre of DJ Hell is famously characterised by his artistic desire to have a different approach to each album, while at the same time constants provide inner cohesiveness and cross references. One example would be the theme of automobiles, as an influence of Kraftwerk’s ‘Autobahn’: just think of songs like ‘Hellracer’ or ‘Car Car Car’. The car motive is again present on House Music Box, with the ambitious track ‘GPS’. Conceptually speaking it is a highlight of the record: over sparse Roland drum machine beats, we can hear the female computer voice of a navigation device devising the fastest route to ‘destination Berlin nightlife’. This almost has a double meaning, as once inside the club, the music will guide the dancers.
No DJ Hell album, without cover versions. Or, should we better call his idiosyncratic electronic editions of established hits new originals – referring to a term that Laibach coined. This definitely holds true for ‘The Revolution Will Not Be Televised’: his update of Gil Scott Heron’s soul classic turned into a veritable 4-on-the-floor version. The slogan, which originally came from the Black Power movement, carved out a remarkable career, not only thanks to several new versions, but equally alienated as an advertising slogan for bar chains. The fact that Hell takes up this track in the days of YouTube, Instagram and Facebook illustrates us today that the idea of a political revolution is long gone. For that reason, all he keeps from the wordy original is its headline while the impulsive beats prove all more, that at least the revolution of the dancefloor is nowhere near over.
Past, Present, No Future – even if Hell’s deep bow to the trailblazers and pioneers of electronic club music was already completed when the corona pandemic broke out, the subtitle of House Music Box proved apt even so in the light of the circumstance that especially the club scene is seriously affected from the coercive measures of the crisis. It was therefore quite prophetic that on ‘Jimi Hendrix’ you can hear pieces of the last interview that the guitarist gave shortly before his controversial death. „I can’t build anything right now, you know, because of the things that are happing right now. I just have to lay back and think about it all.” House Music Box is, in many ways, the right record at the right time. Because as DJ Hell speaks about his album: ‘House Music for me has always been a spiritual experience, a higher, different form of communication, so to speak’. So, let’s listen carefully what he reports about his musical excursions in the Past, Present and Future of House.

2
Joyce Muniz feat. DEMETR1US - Dreamz
Tracklisting:
A1 Toxic People
B1 Dreamz
Short Info:
Multi-talent Joyce Muniz is definitely one to look out for. Initially starting her career as a vocalist,
she now took over the global house music scene within no time as a deejay and producer as
well. Exhibiting her talent with previous releases, it's not surprising that she's on the roster of
prestigous labels such as Exploited Records and 20/20 Vision Recordings. Next year she will
release her single "Toxic People" on International Deejay Gigolo Records featuring the singer,
songwriter and producer Demetr1us. "Toxic People" is a vibrant and raw sounding electro house
cut featuring grimy synths and vocals, that lend the track a cold and distant atmosphere.
The artwork for "Toxic People" was created by Leipzig-based artist Silvia Trost, whose forth lies
in oil and acrylic paintings. She now frequently collaborates with glitch art artists and loves to mix
materials and techniques, both analogue and digital.
The B-side "Dreamz" is another great production by Joyce Muniz. The playful groove and eclectic
ambient makes it a cool package.

Thomas Meinecke & Move D - Work Me (Please Don_t Stop)
Tracklisting:
A1 Say My Name
A2 (Time To) Work The Box
B1 Work Me (Thats Fierce)
B2 Work Me (Please Don´t Stop)
Short Info:
International Gigolo Records are re-releasing Move D's & Thomas Meinecke's joint LP
"Work". For the first time it will be released on digital & vinyl.
WORK is a four-letter- word
Since the 1920's one could establish an etymological mix between the sphere of work and
love, as the so-called 'working girls' (young, employed women, mostly employees in bureaus,
who wore short skirts and even shorter hair and smoked in pubic), marked not only the first
broad noticeable swing with previously unknown women who had sovereignty over their
sexuality (not just in sociological sense), but also commonly working girl could also mean a
prostitute. In a subcultural jive the word 'work' built up increasingly to a word for
self-determined, often sexually dissident activities, until they become central term in the
overly queer, mostly Latin-American subculture (glorified by Judith Butler and Madonna) of
the vogue ballrooms, Spanish harlems. 'You better work' is the chorus of the super hit
"Supermodel" by the drag queen RuPaul and that was truly not meant as a call to the
working moral of the Anglo-Saxon protestant (WASP) society of the USA (the accompanying
video clip was turned in New York for its chiseled street walkers infamous meat-packing
district). The 'Underground house music' of New York, Chicago's Booty Bass or Detroit's
Ghetto tech uses the word until today in the context of almost loosely sexual metaphors
(work my body over), that here often are coded as very bipolar, don't serve the
(business)ubiquitous sexism, but (in the triangle of defamation 'race, class and gender') pose
a critical potential. David Moufang and Thomas Meinecke 'worked' their way through the
repertoire of this exciting music, producing a hypnotic mix of countless samples, paired with
statements by the involved
(dance veterans, drag queens, DJs) and their own voices and instruments. Other Rooms,
other voices.
Ever since 1998 the in 1996 Heidelberg-born musician, studio owner and dj David Moufang
alias Move D and the in 1955 Hamburg-born writer and musician Thomas Meinecke
collaboratively produce 'sonic fiction' for the radio drama and media art division of the
Bavarian Broadcasting. David Moufang founded his own imprint 'Source' in the 1990s, but
releases his own productions on numerous international labels. Since 1980 Thomas
Meinecke plays in the band F.S.K. that he cofounded (on 'Buback' since 2008), themes
and moderates the music program of the Bavarian Broadcast since 1985 and ever since 1986
publishes belletristic books on Suhrkamp press. The last joint production of Meinecke and
Moufang ('übersetzungen/translations') was awarded with the Karl Suzuka price for radio art
at the Donauenschingen music festival in 2008.

Description:
Guede Remixes is a remix compilation of DJ Hell taken from his 5th studio album Zukunftsmusik. The release features two remixes by Joyce Muniz and one by Paul Nazca. Guede's soundscape is acidic yet minimal, with its distorted vocals and raucous instrumentation lending the track an eerie and at times ethereal vibe. Each artist brings a uniquely different perspective on the sound of the original cut, whilst never completely abandoning the track's core identity. Paul Nazca infuses it with trance, Joyce Muniz keeps the acid and adds the deep.

Roman Fluegel presents his own eclectic and diverse interpretation in a playful and artistic vibe, while Phil Kieran´s Autobahn remix is a straight, deep and dark version of the original track, which is featured on the vinyl too.

Short Info:
We are pleased to announce DJ Hell´s 5th album „Zukunftsmusik“, to be released on International Deejay Gigolo Records.
The techno revolution 30 years ago, where boundaries, walls and our own guarded natures came crumbling down? The archaic establishment-challenging attitude and forthright energy of the punks? The long-awaited eruption of gay culture that had burned and yearned since the dawn of mankind? Dare you travel even further back? Rewind two hundred years to the romantic revolution where men like the blitzed Berloiz helped us transcend our physical limitations for suspended moments of fantastique disbelief… All of these moments have shaped us, our music and our culture. Each movement comprising artists who – like us right now – are trying to make sense of the uncertain world, the chaotic present and the fearful future. Artists like Hell. Welcome to the future…Reflecting over his participation and contribution to myriad cultural movements since the late 70s, his passion of ever-evolving musical form and our current socialpolitical landscape, Hell taps into our collective rich histories, our combined fears and our mutual desires to create his most personal, ambitious and thought provoking body of work to date:
Zukunftsmusik.
His fifth studio album Zukunftsmusik fuses some of Hell’s strong signature motifs (his passion for subversion, his great kosmiche canvases, sudden throbbing bursts of dancefloor dynamism, subtle songcraft) yet it sounds unlike anything Hell has ever created before. There are very few big club singles. A delicate balance of classical dramatic orchestral tension and evocative futuristic synthesis runs throughout. Dark and light, hope and fear, fast and slow, day and night… Over the course of one hour Helmut Josef Geier invites you on a musical trip of a lifetime; his lifetime, your
lifetime, music’s lifetime.
Vital Sales Points:
- DJ Hell’s fifth studio album. His first album in eight years
- 2LP comes with poster
- Limited colored edition available
- Global promotional activities by International Deejay Gigolo Records
- The video of the first single “I Want U” has reached more than 750k views on YouTube
- More videos and EPs with around 50 (!) remixes to come over the next weeks and months

It's the culmination of what has been a roller coaster debut year: the eponymous debut album by the phenomenal Vienna duo HVOB is a lesson in how versatile, intelligent and creative electronic music can be. It's been just twelve months since the first snippets appeared on Soundcloud, during which time the young electronic duo HVOB (short for Her Voice over Boys) have been causing a real stir throughout Europe: "… this is what deep house sound should sound like. Pure love …" (hmwl.org, Sweden), "… sure to be spoken about …" (delicieuse-musique.com, France), "More please, and soon!" (thegap.at, Austria), "… sleek and beautifully crafted beats …" (electronicbeats.net, Germany). HVOB have been a hit with the most influential music blogs and with the public: acclaimed appearances at the likes of Germany's MELT! Festival, number 4 in the Beatport Deep House charts with their debut EP "Dogs", number 10 in the Top Live Acts of the Year and number 11 in the Best Singles of 2012 in DE:BUG's readers' poll. At the end of 2012, leading Lebanese fashion designer Elie Saab used HVOB's music for the soundtrack of his collection video. Vienna-born Anna Müller (composition, production, vocals) and Paul Wallner (composition and final production) are kicking off the second year of their collaborative project with another release, only this time with more than just tantalising snippets: their eagerly anticipated debut LP, "HVOB", released March 8, contains twelve tracks that showcase the duo's distinctive sound - intelligent and sophisticated, emotive and melodic. The opening track "Hold Your Horses" could be a signature tune for HVOB: organic beats, soft piano sounds and Anna Müller's stunning voice give way to compelling deep house. Further highlights of the album: scheduled for release in February, the single "Jack" with its emotive beats, the complex electronic ballad "Fog Machine", and "Always Like This", HVOB's interpretation of the track by British indie rock band Bombay Bicycle Club. HVOB, who on stage perform live and with a drummer, are planning a European tour after the album's release. Venues will include: Paris (as part of Paris Fashion Week), Berlin, Zurich; further information: www.hvob-music.com

Ryo Fukui's 1976 highly sought-after jazz masterpiece SCENERY in a Deluxe Limited Edition 2018 Reissue digipack CD
We Release Jazz (WRWTFWW Records' new sister-label) is proud to present its first release, the official reissue of Ryo Fukui's highly sought-after masterpiece Scenery (1976), sourced from the original masters and available on digipack CD.
Unquestionably one of the most important Japanese jazz albums ever recorded, Scenery reveals Ryo Fukui as a miraculously brilliant self-taught pianist fusing modal, bop, and cool jazz influences for a very personal, dexterous and game-changing take on classic standards made famous by Bing Crosby and John Coltrane among others. From "It Could Happen To You" and its serene and calm intro which magically flows into a jubilant and upbeat piece, to the out-of-this-world piano solo of "Early Summer", or the incredible teamwork of "Autumn Leaves" where Fukui leads Satoshi Denpo (bass) and Yoshinori Fukui (drums) into groove heaven, every single note on the album oozes precision, confidence and flair and every single section slides seamlessly into one another, creating a supreme and elegant blend of jazz. Often compared to McCoy Tyner or Bill Evans, Ryo Fukui was a genius in his own right, a true master of his craft whose perfectionism gave birth to some of the greatest music ever recorded. Scenery is his magnum opus and an absolute must-have.
The Hokkaido wizard-pianist followed Scenery with the soulful gem Mellow Dream (also available on We Release Jazz) in 1977. He then focused on improving his live skills, often performing at Sapporo's Slowboat Jazz Club (which he co-founded with his wife Yasuko Fukui) and releasing 2 live albums. Ryo Fukui sadly passed away in March 2016, leaving behind a legacy of works that is sure to captivate jazz lovers for generations to come.

Info
We Release Jazz is so happy to announce the official reissue of Ryo Fukui’s New York sessions with Lisle Atkinson and Leroy Williams, the aptly titled album Ryo Fukui in New York, sourced from the original masters and available on limited edition 180 gram vinyl mastered at half speed for full audiophile sound, as well as on digipack CD.
Recorded in February 1999 at Avatar Recording Studios in New York and inspired by Ryo Fukui’s idol and mentor Barry Harris, the fourth album from the famed Sapporo pianist captures memorable ses-sions with seasoned American jazz musicians (and frequent Barry Harris collaborators) Lisle Arthur Atkinson on bass and Leroy Williams on drums.
Ryo Fukui in New York is pure bop heaven, glowing with poetic takes on classics by Charlie Parker, George Gershwin, Duke Ellington, Jerome Kern, Cole Porter, and Bud Powell, plus a supreme remake of Fukui’s very own "Mellow Dream". It’s expressive, soulful, and vibrating with a bouncing swing feel all the way through; every note falls exactly where it should, undeniable brilliance. Much like the other albums by the genius from Hokkaido, it’s got that "special something", hard to grasp, hard to describe, but 100% felt. Skills and heart, the Ryo Fukui way.
Following his New York adventures, Ryo Fukui headed back to Sapporo, and more precisely to his jazz club Slowboat, where his newly acquired experience inspired numerous jam sessions and a full dedication to perfecting his craft. He sadly passed away in 2016, leaving behind a legacy of works that is sure to captivate jazz lovers for generations to come, and Slowboat, where the magic still hap-pens to this day.
This is reissued in conjunction with Ryo Fukui’s A Letter from Slowboat (2016), also available via We Release Jazz.

Info:
We Release Jazz is delighted to announce the official reissue of Ryo Fukui’s final album, the very personal contemporary jazz offering, A Letter from Slowboat, sourced from the original masters and available on limited edition 180 gram vinyl mastered at half speed for full audiophile sound, as well as on digipack CD.
Known for his miraculous albums Scenery (1976) and Mellow Dream (1977), legendary Hokkaido pianist Ryo Fukui, with the help of his wife Yasuko, opened his very own jazz club in Sapporo in 1995, Slowboat. This is where Ryo Fukui spent the latter half of his career, playing again and again, welcoming peers for unforgettable sessions, and perfecting the craft he lived for: jazz.
A Letter from Slowboat is a poetic, soulful, and honest love letter to Hokkaido, to Fukui’s jazz club, and to endless hours of practicing artistry in a place called home. Backed by longtime collaborators Takumi Awaya on bass, and Ittetsu Takemura on drums, Ryo Fukui flows through classics and originals with natural class, fluidity and absolute precision, expressing a smooth balance between skills and heart. Slowboat, full of breathtaking solos and exquisite moments of clarity, is another crucial piece in the career of one of the most fascinating jazzmen to ever grace the piano. It was released in 2016, sadly the year Ryo Fukui passed away, leaving behind a legacy of works that is sure to captivate jazz lovers for generations to come, and Slowboat, where the magic still happens to this day.
This is reissued in conjunction with Ryo Fukui’s Ryo Fukui in New York (1999), also available via We Release Jazz.
Points of interests
- For fans of jazz, soul jazz, modal, hard bop, piano, Japanese jazz, boats, Sapporo, Scenery, jazz clubs and very personal letters.

Trentemoller - 05/B1. In The Gloaming

Danish composer, musician and producer Trentemøller announces his new studio album 'Memoria' which is set for release in early 2022 on his own label In My Room alongside the first single 'In The Gloaming' which is released September 10th 2021. Anders Trentemøller's sixth studio album, Memoria, seems to exist at the
confluence of inspiration, coincidence, and maybe even a little bit of the supernatural.
A recent, unanticipated drop of four songs, in the form of two singles (No One Quite Like You, and Golden Sun), might leave one surprised to find that a full album's worth of material was also waiting in the wings.
As with most Trentemøller releases, it's a body of songs that are thematically linked by many melodic threads.
The first single from the upcoming album, 'In The Gloaming', which is released in September 2021, implies the arc of the album might have actually begun late in the day, giving the sensation of waking in the evening. Nocturne's dawning. Stars emerge in the form of percussive arpeggios.
2019's Trentemøller album 'Obverse' was an exercise in what could be done if the prospect of performing the songs onstage wasn't a factor. It opened up some doors, and signaled a new chapter. Memoria, even considering its resplendence, almost feels like it demands to be presented live as well.

03 / DX Earth - Edit (Digital Bonus) 05:08
Astral travel with Cybotron into the meta-narrative of the Parallel Shift, a new sonic fiction that raises many questions about military science of the near-future and the possibility of other worlds.
Descending backward through the rhythms of time, the Skynet module retracts from the hyper-structural society of 2100, edging toward the mid-century modern age teetering on the brink of what was then the frontier of “the future”. The system boots the Infiniti process, morphing into a cosmotechnic vessel coursing the superhighway of burgeoning general intelligence, seeking data from just before “the overshoot and collapse.”
R&D methods, rhythmanalytically applied, dissect the aftermath of an industrial society that burst through the ecological capacity of Spaceship Earth. Fractal visions of war and innovation spike and recede from and into the surfaces of reality being bent and guiding the eyes, ears, touch towards a laboratory in the year 1961. A nuclear expert, Don Lewis, receives orders to decrypt the mysterious black dodecagonal disc known as Fortec and the extraterrestrial biology unearthed in Roswell. He joins a team disassembling Fortec and studying the recurrent dodecahedral patterns linked to the human nervous system.
Through dismantling and probing, the team cycles through a saecular search devoid of finite conclusions, limited by Earth’s intellectual and technological prowess. One 1960s night, Lewis, while meddling with Fortec’s cyborganic innards, accidentally electrifies himself. His cyclotron and missile experience guides him to circuit-bend Fortec, stirring the entity from a mechanical slumber. Lewis and Fortec communicate in resonances, until it drifts back into a tranquil stasis.
The US Defense and contractors, unbeknownst to them, observe this breakthrough. They later permit Lewis to exit military service as the Air Force forms the Foreign Technology Division. Concurrently, MJ12 evolves into CY12, delving into second-order cybernetics. Lewis clandestinely keeps working on Fortec fragments, transitioning from military engineer to musician, pioneering the LEO module, a fusion of Fortec’s essence and audio engineering.
He shares his insights with Roland founder Ikutaro Kakehashi, aiding the creation of the iconic TR-808. Meanwhile, Fortec branches out, coining “Cyberspace” – a collective illusion of liberty unshackled by physical, political, or spiritual bounds, anchored in the equitable distribution of The Golden Ratio across realities. Yet “Cyberspace” morphs into a chaotic truth reservoir, spilling over into deception.
The Parallel Shift manifests in the perpetual “Now,” a collapsed event horizon where past and future are ensnared in a relentless present, unfurling along a dissolving timeline, overseen by a monolithic simulation under ceaseless watch…
— The Rhythmanalyst aka DeForrest Brown, Jr.

Fluxion continues to carve his own musical path, taking us all together to a personal journey in his inner world, moods and moments, showcasing the importance of being influenced by none other than real life moments, people, expectations, joy, dreams and disappointments. Expressing what comes from the inside, instead of the outside, creating a more intimate work, is at the main focus of the artist since his previous album Perspectives that came out on May 2020.
Artistic development happens from within, not from repeating formulas of the past, but embracing and mixing life events, alongside different styles of music culture, and creating personal stories, outside of trends, that's what keeps the music interesting.
On Parallel Moves Fluxion flows through various emotional states, and through blending of styles and expanding the borders, he manages to create variety listening to the album which is essential on an LP. But even with the variety the music bears the Fluxion sound aesthetic making it it an enjoyable listening experience, that requires more listens.

RELEASES INFO
Tresor Records is fortunate enough to be sitting on a catalogue of past releases that no other label in electronic
music would turn down. Three of the nest in this collection were contributed by Surgeon: “Basictonalvocabulary”,
“Balance” and “Force + Form” all originally came out on the Berlin institution between 1997 and 1999.
Surgeon’s inimitable combination of Detroit techno and post-industrial sounds emanating from his British
homeland found its fullest expression in these masterful trio of releases on Tresor. Tresor Records have decided
that its high time to give these seminal albums another airing, and will present each in a staggered series of 2LP
represses throughout the year.
“Force + Form” is the last chapter of this re-issue series, centered around Surgeon and represents a turning point
both in the artist’s career as well as for the history of techno music. Tresor117 was remastered in 2015 by Matt
Colton at Alchemy Mastering, London.

OUT OF PLACE ARTEFACTS, the collaboration alchemizing the sounds of german producers Rødhåd and .VRIL, embarks on a new sonic exploration with “II” on Rødhåd’s label WSNWG.
This second longplayer ventures significantly deeper into the spheres of electronic music - exploring a wide range of abysmal drums and breaks as well as focusing on flickering sound sketches and elusive noises whose origin will have to remain a mystery for the listener. It aims to leave them in inexplicable realms between the dance floor and deep listening, unfolding its magnetism beyond genre definitions.
Throughout the listening experience, one is exposed to bewildering surprises such as traces of lightheartedness and stronger use of samples, vocals and strings. “Universian” invites a softer tone, revealing a more seductive, gloomier and poppier facette of the duo.
The closing track “Triskaideka” concludes the journey by featuring classical musicians Angelina Delgado (Violin) and Alexandra Ivanova (Viola).
OUT OF PLACE ARTEFACTS considerably developed the rapport between both artists' contributions for this LP- merging them into a more harmonious, yet very distinct expression. Each of the 13 tracks showcases layered, intricate arrangements so that they become their own microcosms, forming a radiant universe as a whole album.

The mid-2000s underground stir surrounding Studio, the project of Swedish musicians Dan Lissvik and Rasmus Hägg, feels nearly lost to time. West Coast, their seminal 2006 debut, captured a faraway romanticism of Balearic brushed up against Krautrock, disco, dub, and afro-beat, with pop lyricism lifted from new wave, all made modern by two art school grads in Gothenburg. First pressed in a small vinyl-only run via their own Information label, the album has been notably absent from most streaming services, and the internet’s record of its initial impact is all but fossilized from a bygone blog era, while its sound is simply untraceable to any one moment in music.
Presented with a minimalist black circle LP design, the set possessed an uncanny escapist sensibility, underscored by track titles like “Life’s A Beach!” but otherwise entirely on the suggestion of that sound, imagined, displaced, and subconsciously amalgamated. Some called it “the missing link between The Cure and Lindstrøm,” Pitchfork heard Durutti Column and Can, as the duo’s story became swept up in a loosely developing scene — adjacent first to the label Service (Jens Lekman, The Whitest Boy Alive) and later Sincerely Yours (The Tough Alliance, jj) — and a precursor to the 2010s boom at the axis of electronic and psychedelic music guided by indie greats like Caribou, Four Tet, and Darkside. Featuring six free-flowed tracks that glide between hypnotic instrumental terrain and anthemic pop architecture, West Coast succeeded in its premise, a trance-inducing, deja vu-like destination instantly identifiable and endlessly replayable. By late 2007, following its expanded CD repackaging as Yearbook 1, the songs were staples of year-end lists, including best album write-ups by Pitchfork, FACT Magazine, and Rough Trade. While Lissvik and Hägg kept busy, Studio’s proper follow-up never came, thus adding to West Coast’s strange allure and legacy. In 2025, the record sees renewed appreciation, remastered and reissued by Ghostly International.
West Coast took shape throughout much of Studio's existence. The earliest recordings trace back to sessions held at Lissvik’s art school and Hägg’s rehearsal space between 2001 and 2004. During this period, Lissvik co-founded the Service label, creating a platform to release music, produce T-shirts, and host events. Service organized large parties, and the art school served as both a club venue and office, in a style reminiscent of Factory Records and Haçienda. Aside from their three initial 7-inch releases on Service, they kept most of their music to themselves for several years. Hägg remembers, "All these recordings were just piled up and we dusted them off and started to deconstruct and assemble them in a more drawn-out fashion." In 2005, they left Service, flirted with breaking up, and then revisited material and wrote two new songs at Hägg's Ferry Terminal Studio and Lissvik's N.47 studio, which he jokingly dubbed the "Beach Ball of Death sessions" due to the slow processing strain put on his Power Mac G4. Hägg continues, "I had started a disco club night with a friend and we went deep down the rabbit holes of Balearics, space rock, and strange leftfield dancefloor stuff. This probably seeped into Studio's output. Around the same time, with Dan slowing drums down to half tempo, finishing ‘No Comply’ and creating ‘Radio Edit’, the B-side of Studio's first 12", a West Coast blueprint was born.”
Soon songs were finalized and sequenced from countless sketches and layers, and the titles clicked into place after being kicked around for a while. The title for the pulsing, guitar-driven “Self Service” was inspired by Lissvik’s visit to the office of the Paris fashion magazine and chosen to mark their newfound independence. Thematically, a larger vision emerged. “Somehow, I knew I wanted to make a conceptual record that, although only imaginary at that point, could represent or define how our city sounded,” says Lissvik. “I was totally immersed in a word bubble and was really struggling with lyrics for one of our potential instrumentals. While walking back to the studio one day after a lunch break, ‘West Coast’ appeared in my mind. I ran back to the studio, wrote down the lyrics for ‘West Side,’ and suddenly ‘Life’s A Beach!,’ ‘Indo’ and the rest of the potential instrumentals all made sense.”
Sonically, the set represented years of developing taste as well. In the same breadth, they cite DJ Screw, J Dilla, and Joy Division, along with early ‘80s European live DJ sets from the likes of Beppe Loda, DJ Mozart, and Baldelli as reference points. “The anything-goes mentality was very encouraging and was a big cornerstone to the Studio sound,” says Hägg. “But there’s so much more to the picture, we were not that young then and had lots of musical baggage in our suitcases, the new thing was that we finally let it all come through, not bound by any borders that was often the case with music identity in Sweden during the ‘90s.”
West Coast is defined by its swing, an ability to lock into loops and beat-grids while still prioritizing looseness and genuine surprises across long passages with layers constantly appearing and fading from the mix. Songs can momentarily fall out of step or change course, like 10 minutes into the hazy opener “Out There” when the bass line suddenly dips back beat for 4 bars and then returns on the beat, giving way for a dubbed-out breakdown and ascendent finish. Or take the 13-minute “Life’s A Beach!” which eases into a soft, tide-changing crescendo just before the 9-minute mark, returning anew on an optimistic bass line as the guitar gets moody above the shimmering wash. Hägg says, “It always transcended very well live, like an implosion. It’s a very tricky song to play, due to strange rounds so it’s such a relief when one gets there, probably what you hear is a big sigh.”
In the afterglow of the record’s 2007 reception, as their oft-mentioned un-Google-able name and Myspace page made rounds and West Coast was cemented as “one of the finest pieces of electronic music you ´ll hear this year,” per The Guardian, Studio receded from view, clouded behind a mountain of remix requests (including belter for Kylie Minogue and Stockholm’s Shout Out Louds) and label bureaucracy. But both artists, now well into respective careers beyond Studio, have come to peace with West Coast as their most enduring effort together. Lissvik adds, “It serves as a good reminder for me to keep to that decision and promise and to continue exploring and growing.”
