We are honored to announce the latest album from Michel Amato aka The Hacker, ‘Le Théâtre des Opérations’. Michel began making music in 1989 a the age of 17 in Grenoble, France. He grew up listening to New Wave bands like Duran Duran, The Cure and Depeche Mode as well as the darker side of electro Kraftwerk, Cabaret Voltaire and D.A.F. In 1990s he released a series of 12” singles and an album of cold, calculating and relentless techno. In 1997 he teamed up with Caroline Herve aka Miss Kittin and to release landmark singles and albums that effortlessly channeled the carefree spirit of 80s electro pop (of which we released an EP of lost demos back in 2015). Michel’s new live project sees the enigmatic artist go back to his roots, performing a 100% analogue set directly inspired by his first true loves of New Wave and dark, powerful techno. ‘Le Théâtre des Opérations’ features 8 new tracks spread evenly across 2x12”s cut at 45rpm for maximum sound quality and DJ utility. The title comes from a
metaphysical journal by French-born Canadian science fiction writer Maurice G Dantec. Passionate about avant-garde techno, The Hacker has taken his influences and crafted a potent homage to the power of the synthesizer. Songs veer from gritty, raw EBM to dark, subterranean electro, effortlessly channeling the strains of the Michel’s musical DNA: Front 242, Jeff Mills, Dopplereffekt, Drexciya. The only vocal track features an appearance by longtime friend and collaborator Miss Kittin, named “Time X” after the French science fiction television series Temps X. All songs have been mastered and lacquer cut by George Horn at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley. Cover artwork features a collage by London-based artist Anthony Gerace, and each copy includes a postcard featuring a photo of a young Michel from 1989.

Shockwave has the demonic stabs of T99 – Anasthasia and the energy of Human Resource – Dominator with the familiar energy flash call to the masses of `ecstacy, ecstacy`. The single contains a massive remix by man of the moment, Gesaffelstein who could possibly be the modern day Joey Beltram. His remix is already a favourite with 2 Many Djs and a clip of him playing it on board the Holy Ship Rave Cruise has already reached over 22,000 views on YouTube. Altern 8`s Mark Archer also provides an exclusive remix full of break beats and hooks from back in the day. Vicks, white gloves and boiler suits are optional. Exclusive new track Bass 4 wraps things up with its deep dark brooding electro techno. More

Correspondant can finally reveal the release of the remixes for Man Power’s debut LP, which was released last year on Correspondant. A year in the making, the remix package features artists and friends hand-picked by both Jennifer Cardini and Man Power himself. Disco Halal’s Moscoman remixes the baggy splendour of Beilsteiner, creating a rolling and belching extended opus more focused toward the peak time dance floor. Hivern Disc’s JMII takes Hunting Swan and turns it inside out, exploring space with a cerebral, schizophrenic quality. Alternatively, Pale Blue (Mike Simonetti) takes Boys Beware and re-imagines it as an aggressive drum workout. Completing the package, Suade, the artist who also mastered the original album, replaces TEN’s balearic leanings with an IDM sensibility, yet still retains the optimism of the original track. All 4 remixes manage to exist as distinct works in their own right, while paying homage to the "magpie" approach of the original long player. More

Vox low come in hard, slow and dark on a new 3 tracker for Correspondant. The Pyschedlic Parisian duo display various iterations of left field menace, ranging from Glam Rock on “The Hunt”, Electro Disco on “Some Words of Faith, and pitched down Acid on “I am a Strange Machine Sometimes”, but all with the signature analogue pulse which Correspondant is famed for presenting. Romanian born, and Berlin Based, Borusiade (aka Miruna Boruzescu) makes her Correspondant debut in dazzlingly bleak fashion. Over a four track EP the artist manages to channel a wealth of disparate sounds, referencing Giallo disco, New Wave longing and Pitched-down ghetto techno amongst other dark and otherworldly tropes. All of the music on offer here possesses a slow and dark drive that purposes it for the dance floor, but also contain such a wealth of loss despair, and a perverse pathos that elevates them from simple dance music and move them in to a more artistic realm.
