The Harvey Averne Dozen & Louie Ramirez - You're No Good
2
The Harvey Averne Dozen & Louie Ramirez - Mueve La Cadera
For this new 45, "Matasuna Records" returns to the "ATCO" and "Atlantic" vaults, pairing two distinct cuts from the 1960s New York Latin music landscape. On the A-side, "The Harvey Averne Dozen's" "You’re No Good" blends warm "Latin Soul crossover" with a steady mid-tempo groove and vibraphone-led arrangement. The flip side features "Louie Ramirez & His Orchestra's" "Mueve la Cadera" – a percussion and brass-driven "Boogaloo" recording full of movement, tension and energy. Two contrasting yet complementary sides, now officially back on 45.

2
Adam's Apple - La Inflacion De Ofelia (Instrumental)
"Matasuna Records" takes another musical journey to "Miami", Florida, to spotlight the local band "Adam's Apple". Back in 1975, the independent label "Sound Triangle Records" issued a 7inch single featuring two of their songs: the ballad "Miami Para Mi" and the upbeat Latin/Salsa Funk cut "La Inflación De Ofelia". Now, this tune returns on 7inch vinyl for the first time, paired with an instrumental version that strips it down to its pure, funky essence. Written by Miami-based musician and songwriter "Eddie Elmer" - who also penned the Latin funk gem "Harina de Maiz" for "Los Sobrinos del Juez," reissued by Matasuna in 2019. This new release uncovers another hidden treasure from Miami's vibrant music scene. Don't miss out!

Porfi Jimenez - Miami (Original)

Porfi Jimenez - Miami (Retro Roland Riso Power Edit)
One of those rare, lesser-known Latin funk gems is undoubtedly "Miami" by Dominican-Venezuelan musician "Porfi Jiménez", originally released in 1971. Sought after by DJs and collectors for years, original copies are now almost impossible to find in decent condition. The track has been high on "Matasuna Records"' wish list for a long time - and after several years of work, it's finally getting an official reissue. The release also includes a great edit by Philadelphia-based DJ and producer "Retro Roland Riso", who has already left his mark on previous Matasuna releases. This heavy Latin funk joint from Venezuela is ready to bring the heat just in time for summer! ?? The original version of "Miami" impresses with its driving percussion, powerful horns and raw, unpolished sound, delivering pure energy. The fusion of funk grooves and Latin American rhythms creates an infectious vibe that is perfect for the dance floor. Retro Roland Riso's edit carefully enhances the track by adding extra beats and percussive elements, giving it more punch and making it even more club-friendly, while staying true to the original feel. It's a fresh favourite for any bag!

The Blaxound & John Vermont - No Es Por Ti
2
The Blaxound & John Vermont - Qué Más Te Da?
Berlin based label "Matasuna Records" kicks off the new year 2025 with a soulful 7inch featuring songs by Barcelona's "The Blaxound" and singer "John Vermont". Their common love for vintage soul from the 60s and 70s brought them together for this project to compose and record classic soul sung in Spanish. This 45 shows that the concept worked out wonderfully: Spanish Soul at its best, sounding authentic and contemporary at the same time! Matasuna Records, known for its reissues of musical treasures from the past, also has an eye for exciting new discoveries in contemporary music. With "The Blaxound & John Vermont" the label has once again found an interesting project for soulful & contemporary music that fits perfectly into the label's sound spectrum and will appeal to lovers of authentic soul music. The two songs "No Es Por Ti" and "Qué Más Te Da?" from their recently released album will be released for the first time as a 7-inch vinyl single on Matasuna Records. The instrumentation and the lovely harmonies are the ideal basis for John Vermont, who with his versatile voice, sometimes powerful, sometimes smooth - but always soulful - can fully develop his vocal spectrum and fill the songs with his presence. Instrumental and vocal arrangements are beautifully balanced and harmonious. Beatific!

Phirpo y sus Caribes - Y Esa Pava Que?
2
Phirpo y sus Caribes - Pa' Los Rumbero
Exactly three years ago, "Matasuna Records" released a hot Latin 45 feat. two songs by the Venezuelan band "Phirpo y sus Caribes", led by musician, arranger and conductor "Porfi Jiménez". Now, fortunately, two more tracks from the band's only album, "Parrilla Caliente", are being reissued on vinyl by Matasuna - and for the first time, on a 7-inch! The original pressing of the 1972 album on "Philips" is a rare and valuable collector's item. Officially licensed by the family of the late musician. Don't miss this gem! "Y Esa Pava Que?" on the A-side of the single is an explosive Latin funk joint written by Porfi Jiménez. An irresistible groover, opulently and densely orchestrated with virtuoso musicians showing off their musicality. Heavy drums, powerful horns, funky & slightly psychedelic keys & guitars are the basic ingredients, enriched with solo parts and vocal interludes. A real treat! The B-side features "Pa' Los Rumbero", a cover version of the song by New York Latin maestro "Tito Puente". In 1972, Puente recorded a great new version of his original 1955 composition. Phirpo y sus Caribes used this new version as the basis for their cover, compressing the Puente song to about two and a half minutes. The result is an energetic and upbeat song that proves that Porfi Jiménez and his bandmates were among the continent's finest musicians. Vamos que la rumba ya va empezar!

3
Bidaide - Love Me & Give Up
"Matasuna Records", on a mission to unearth musical treasures of the past for the last 7 years, presents an exciting discovery of the present with the band "Bidaide" from Barcelona. This 7-inch vinyl single not only marks Bidaide's vinyl debut, but also unveils their captivating versatility and musicality with two previously unreleased tracks, "Batua" and "Love Me & Give Up".
Soul, funk, psychedelic rock, reggae-dub and library music merge seamlessly in Bidaide's recordings, forming a unique sound. Two great tracks that are now available on vinyl!
"Batua" on the A-side is the energetic prelude to this 45. A dynamic, unfiltered rhythm section provides the foundation, while two guitars engage in an agile conversation underscored by sharp keys and fantastic brass overdubs. Recorded in the band's studio on multiple tracks using analog methods and equipment, the song boasts an opulent, organic sound. Batua is a funky, psychedelic journey interspersed with soulful & harmonious interludes and stirring percussive breaks.
Flipping to the B-side, "Love Me & Give Up" offers a more soulful, relaxed contrast, showcasing the band's versatility. A laid-back beat sets the stage, with keys and guitars weaving a soulful sound tapestry. The chorus, delivered with restrained conviction and backed by a warm organ, evoke a Motown-esque charm.
Founded in 2019, Bidaide began as a duo with "Asier del Álamo" and "Juan Cruz Chiappara". With the arrival of "Sergio Caño" (keyboards), "Manuel Diaz" (drums), and "Nacho Llauradó" (Telecaster), the duo blossomed into a vibrant band. Through experimentation and maturation, they forged their own distinct sound, reflected in their 2021-2022 recordings titled "BATUA" (Basque for "unity"). These recordings embody the spiritual essence of a group that has found and solidified its own powerful sound, showcasing its talent for arrangements and harmonies.
Some members of Bidaide, who already knew Matasuna and their releases through their involvement in the "Gatzara Soundsystem", sent Matasuna their demo of the recordings in mid-2003. Their fresh, impressive sound immediatelyfound open ears. This connection paved the way for Bidaide's exciting vinyl debut, marking a new chapter in their musical journey.

2
United 8 & Tony Alvon & The Belairs - Sexy Coffee Pot
Matasuna Records is thrilled tofinally release them as an officially licensed reissue with new mastering as a 7-inch vinyl single. This release is an absolute must-have for all funk enthusiasts, DJs and collectors."Getting Uptown (To Get Down)" by "United 8" is a funk classic released on Atlantic Records in 1972. The musicians of United 8 created an infectious sound with a combination of horns, guitars, drums and bass. The drums drive the beat and give the track its distinctive rhythm, while the bass provides a powerful, pulsating foundation. The horns add a jazzy note, while the guitar adds a funky touch. The result is an energetic, danceable sound that still sounds fresh and exciting today. The song is timeless and has lost none of its appeal. It's no wonder that it has been featured on many funk compilations since the 2000s. "Sexy Coffee Pot" by "Tony Alvon & The Belairs" is an explosive and energetic funk jointfrom 1969that immediately captivates the listener. The rhythm section lays down a steady, infectious groove, while the guitar and horns provide a funky, dynamic sound that complements each other perfectly. It's no surprise that "Sexy CoffeePot" has been sampled and covered by so many hip-hop artists over the years, such as "Eric B. & Rakim", "Cypress Hill" or "DJ Shadow", to name a few. B-boys and B-girls also appreciate the upbeat vibe of this song, which has become a staple on battles.

Colorado - Para Ti
"Matasuna Records" returns to Mexico for a third time to dig for rare treasures. They got their hands on a special gem - two obscure Latin/Jazzfunk tunes by a band called "Colorado" from "Mexico City". The songs were released in 1976 on the Mexican label Peerless and the super rare original 7inch is virtually unavailable. Fortunately, the release is finally available for the first time as an official reissue in a remastered edition. An unjustly under-the-radar Latin jazzfunk highlight!

Freeway - Abahambi
2
Freeway - Umlazi
"Matasuna Records" journey goes to "South Africa" for the first time to reissue two superb Afro-/Jazzfunk songs by the band "Freeway". Released in 1975 on the South African label "Flame", the album "Abahambi – Balomhlaba" was rediscovered and re-released by the good folks of "Black Pearl Records" from Berlin in 2013. The LP immediately landed on Matasuna Records' album best list and was at the top of the reissue wish list. Now that goal has come true to officially release two songs on 45, making them available as 7inch vinyl singles for the first time. Transferred from the original master tapes and remastered to sound as good as never before. An essential release! The title track of the album "Abahambi" composed by "Sipho Gumede" and also the album opener is also the A-side of the Matasuna release. The song immediately builds up an incredible groove with the first bar and offers an atmospherically dense, 5-minute funk firework. The musicians master their instruments to perfection: be it in the collective playing as well as in the polished solo passages, where they can fully demonstrate their skills. One of the tunes that could run endlessly without ever getting boring. On the flip side, the song "Umlazi" composed by "Enoch Mthalane" is another testament to the sophistication of their arrangements & musicality. Although this song is much slower in tempo, it is in no way inferior to the A-side in intensity. Especially the piano generates a hypnotic groove, which is skillfully continued by the guitar. Another musical treat!

Black Heat - Wanaoh
2
Black Heat - Chip's Funk
"Matasuna Records" has dug into the archives of "Atlantic Records" and unearthed two funky treats from the band "Black Heat". The funk & soul band was active in the 1970s and remained under the radar despite their talent. Both songs from their 1972 debut album are available for the first time as an official reissue on 7inch - the song "Wanaoh" even premieres on a vinyl single. "Wanaoh" on the A-side is a monster funk joint written by the band's guitarist "Bradley Ownes". The song features a top notch mix with all kinds of delicious ingredients: a killer bassline, funky guitar riffs, crunchy drums, deep organ, tasty horns and a super funky flute. Absolutely astonishing that this song didn't go down in the annals of funk. "Chip's Funk" on the B-side penned by bassist "Naamon Jones" also continues in the same vein and is an absolutely great tune which succinctly showcases "Raymond Green's" harmonica. The band's name couldn't apply better to this song either: Black Heat is exactly what the musicians deliver here.

Tracklist
A. Stages - Prins Thomas Edit 08:34
B1. I Wanna Be Myself - Gerd Janson Edit 07:20
B2. Stages Of Love - Original 05:55
Info:
Some tracks don’t need fixing. They just need a bit more room. South African composer and keyboard wizard Don Laka has been quietly sitting in DJ bags for years, especially with people who like their synth music warm, slightly
mysterious, and impossible to date properly. Somewhere between jazz funk, township pulse and studio electronics, but really just its own thing.
Stages was an obvious candidate for extension. Prins Thomas what he does best here: opens the arrangement, lets the synth lines breathe, stretches the groove until it starts floating a little higher off the ground. Nothing forced, nothing added for
the sake of it. Just more of a very good thing. I Wanna Be Myself gets a gentle nudge from Gerd Janson. The idea was simple: keep the personality, and give DJs a version that lands naturally in a modern set without losing the original charm. It’s still the same track, just standing a bit straighter.
And because the source matters, the original version of “Stages” is here as well. Always good to remember where the magic started. Three versions, no drama. Just strong music that already knew what it was doing.

Tendts - Ghost Boys (Boys' Shorts Remix)
Thessaloniki is a hotbed of electronic talent. Tendts are testament to this. The triumvirate of brothers Christos and Fotis Papadakis, joined by guitarist Elias Smilios, have carved out a truly unique sound. Blending disdainful punk with synth-pop sheen, the group arrive at the Bordello with Ghost Boys. Cymbals crash in the title piece, a lone key circling percussive precipitation before rich guitar strings bring balance and ballast. The song, an emotion-stripped story of missed opportunities and narrowing prospects, is sensitive and sharp; an emblazoned anthem to the lost and forgotten. Distilled down to a powerful essence, the radio version focuses on the throaty message, meandering synth melody, and smoky strings.
Lauer steps in for remix duties, dipping the original into a blue acid-electro syrup before it re-emerges as a fresh-faced reimagining, its chorus lanced with vocoders while a minimal melody simmers beneath Chicago-style knob twists. Taking another direction, Boys’ Shorts melt broken-beat revelry into their countrymen’s original. Smilios’ guitar riff becomes a central column around which samples spin and house warmth emanates. Sheer quality from needle drop.

Horatio Luna - SLEEPY BYES (INTERLUDE)
Six years on from his La Sape debut, Horatio Luna is back. Recorded across two Melbourne studios between 2022 and 2025, Nick Herrera's in Coburg, Drew Parsons' in South Melbourne, it catalogues experiences in composition and in living. Voicemail messages from these years surface throughout, fragments of a scene mid-pulse. Warmer and more luminous than Horatio's back catalogue, Action Reaction trades the darker textures of Yes Doctor for crystalline synths and funk-driven compositions. Horns feature more prominently than ever before and several pieces revisit earlier material, seen in new light — a thread Horatio intends to keep pulling across his career.

The Littlemen Feat. Hector Moralez - Tell Me (The Littlemen original 2004 mix)
A year or two back, original Nottingham deep house don Gavin Belton (famed for being part of Smokescreen and Drop Music-adjacent duo The Littlemen) returned to the UK after living in New Zealand. One thing led to another and soon he was back in the studio alongside former creative partner Steve Lee for the first time in 15 years. Featuring heady spoken word vocals from Hector Moralez, the result is 'House For Change', a lightly electrofunk-fired slab of classic East Midlands deep house. Raising funds for homeless charity Help The Framework, this surprise EP also includes 2004 classic 'Tell Me' (a free party deep house classic) and two fresh reworks: a TB-303-bass-driven revision of 'House For Change' by their old pals Inland Knights, and a squelchy, spacey take on 'Tell Me' by Lee under his solo alias, Positive Divide.

Tony Lavrutz & Scruscru Feat. Dwaal - Zulu Jam (feat Dwaal)
The gold standard edit masters at Scruniversal have decided to refocus somewhere away from their usual Brazilian sound for this latest 7". It finds the crew heading to Africa and digging deep for new grooves, with Tony Lavrutz, Scruscru & Dwaal coming correct. 'Afrika Bambaataa' kicks the record off with a laid back Afro-tinged broken beats with a sunny disposition and plenty of bright melodies that wouldn't sound out of place in a Nightmares on Wax set. On the flip side joint, 'Zulu Jam" the drums cut more deep with organic percussion scattered up top next to expressive flutes. Perfect summer vibes.

Sun Atlas - Transcendental Interplay
2
Sun Atlas - Astral Affairs
Sun Atlas is back with two killer tunes, 45 exclusive. The L.A. collective made waves in the outernational and psych jazz scene with their debut album and a string of mystic live performances in Los Angeles, at SXSW and in Hamburg. With a new album in the works and a full US tour on the horizon, the mysterious band delivers two bangers to shorten the waiting time for their next big move. „Transcendental Interplay“ sits somewhere between ethio jazz, funked up spagehtti western scores, surfy psychelic and boom bap attitude. „Astral Affairs“ blends sci-fi and outernational jazz with heavy funky drums. Small run, no repress, a must have sure shot!

YEISON LANDERO - Santa Lucia
2
YEISON LANDERO - Cumbia Sin Fronteras
Cumbia Sabanera is one of many foundational music traditions that have been born in the tucked away Montes de Maria region of Colombia’s Caribbean enclave. At the front of this particular sabanera style sits el acordeón, a magical squeezebox of seductive melodies that, combined with the quintessential elements of the cumbia rhythm section, has begat a worldwide phenomenon several times over. Each generation seems to bring forth another cumbia craze that echoes from the savanna out into the Caribbean Sea, oscillating beyond into the international landscape. One of the true maestros, at the very heart of this original movement, is the bonafide and widely recognized El Rey de la Cumbia, Andrés Landero. Put simply, Andrés Landero is a legendary practitioner of the esteemed instrument, with a school of followers and admirers who played and studied with him from the 1950s until his passing in 2000. His performances, discography and compositions are beyond reproach, and accordionists the world over have taken up this same enchanting Hohner instrument to carry on Landero’s craft through his well-formed cumbia sub-culture. As the wider cumbia movement has shapeshifted throughout its time in different countries, across decades with the aid of modern innovations, there remains a devoted tradition to the roots of the accordion-based sound and cumbia sabanera in its most sincere and organic form. Even at the height of international popularity, with talent emerging from all corners of the world’s musical meridians, there is no heir more appropriate to carry on the legacy of Andrés Landero than his very own grandson. These two selections encapsulate the movement of the current cumbia nexus, from an ode to the Colombian countryside traditions in “Santa Lucia” to the international ascent of cumbia’s modern path in “Cumbia Sin Fronteras” (Cumbia Without Borders). Sonically, these two tracks reach for a harmonious balance between raw, traditional, and truly unique, and their finished form on the preferred 7-inch format means they’re destined to reach the hands of selectors and sonideros worldwide, just as the elder Landero’s records did across decades and generations. El heredero de la cumbia (the heir to cumbia) is in a good place, Landero vive!

Fred P - BTA10711 (4AM mix)
Fresh from a run of must-check EPs on Syncrophone Recordings, Black Jazz Consortium man Fred Peterkin inaugurates a new label, Base. The New York-based producer appears to be the man at the helm, since his next scheduled release also appears on the freshly minited imprint. He begins with 'There & Back (Long Player)', a languid, mid-tempo chunk of string-laden deep house classiness, before opting for a breezier, dreamier and sunnier sound on the impeccable 'Something For The Road'. Peterkin's ability to fuse looseness, heaviness and subtly soul-flecked instrumentation comes to the fore on EP highlight 'Rhythm & Movement', while 'BTA10711 (4am Mix)' tiptoes the fine line between dubby deep house and spacey, far-sighted futurism.
