Fatback Band are a disco/funk group that were at the peak of their success in the ’70s, and they were one of Spring Records’ most iconic artists. This is the second release in the series featuring the band’s classic work.
‘Night Fever’ is an electro-disco track released in 1976. Keeping the soulful vocal and strings from the original, house legend Kenny Dope beefs up a looped section of the percussion that forms the backbone of his version. He lifts the tempo and creates a DJ friendly version, while keeping the improvised feel of the original. This rough and ready remix has the kind of bumping groove that’s infectious on a dance floor. If you were part of a clubbing tribe in 1994 - any clubbing tribe - you will have danced to this astounding track. A track on a mysterious 12-inch that no-one could quite work out if it was a 12-inch single of a cheaply packaged album (it was in effect a 12 inch EP), but in the end it didn’t matter. It provided any DJ with a guaranteed dance-floor winner. A sly mix of beats and samples, it is nothing short of an anthem, and with the full co-operation of the group, it is now available for the first time as a 7-inch single. When Acid Jazz was in its mid-1990s pomp, it released a lot of great records. Sometimes they flew past at such a pace, we had moved on to something else before we realised how good they truly were. ‘Lovesick’ by the Night Trains is one such record.
A phenomenal mixture of a distinctive sample turned into a un-ignorable groove, an unforgettable melody (and the soulful vocal from Marcia Johnson), weaved around a Miles-like trumpet. It should have been a hit. But it wasn’t. Instead, it is a cult classic, which we are being fully indulgent in releasing on a 7-inch single.
Night Trains were the brain child of Hugh Brooker, and they released the first ever acid jazz single in 'Open Channel D’, appearing on early groundbreaking Acid Jazz compilations. It resurfaced on the label in 1993 with the ‘Sleazeball’ album, from which Lovesick was the lead single. Hugh has in many forms kept the group going until the present day. A testament to persistence and good taste, in the face of industry indifference. Hugh is one of the originals and we are proud to still work with him to this day.
This is the first time that ‘Lovesick’ has appeared on a 7", and it is flipped with the previously-unreleased on vinyl ‘Only Know About Love' on the B-side.

Twisted Tongue follow up their acclaimed debut album with the first single from their follow-up LP, ‘A Return to Space’, available on 12” vinyl from Acid Jazz Records on January 17th, 2010. Eschewing the p-funk stylings of their self-titled debut, Twisted Tongue (Dave Jay & Mark Dalton) provide an essential revival of the mid-tempo soul stepper, featuring guest vocalist Johanna Lee sweetly leading a tough, incessant groove that recalls the classic likes of Nick Martinelli and the Mizell Brothers. Twisting the track even further are the remixes provided by DJ Ray Mang (DFA, Mangled), one of the founders of London’s nu-disco scene, who has long taken inspiration from New York’s golden era of The Loft and Paradise Garage. Twisted Tongue writer/producer Dave Jay joined forces with Ray for his ‘Mang vs. Mondo’ EP on Mangled earlier this year, and here Mang returns the favour by dubbing out and extending ‘A Return to Space’ to mind-bending effect.

Pure Motorised Instinct drives over to Dark Entries with At Last I'm Leaving the Earth, an LP of industrial-tinged ambient and new age. When legendary industrial outfit Nagamatzu went dormant in 1991, band member Stephen Jarvis moved forward with Pure Motorised Instinct, a name he pulled from a line in George Romero's Dawn of the Dead. Throughout two cassette albums - 1991's Between Intimacy and Elsewhere, and 1993's Everything Is True - Jarvis pushed the Nagamatzu spirit in new directions. At Last I'm Leaving the Earth collects 9 tracks from this era, which are appearing on vinyl for the first time, along with 3 additional tracks on a bonus CD. The material here sits between the brooding and the optimistic, the claustrophobic and the soporific. Jarvis's digital synths are pushed so far into tape-scuffed terrain that they talk and squawk analog-like, scurrying with vibrant curiosity. The late-night vibes peak on pieces like "Vincent V," with its reverb-drenched digital drum machines, or "Geek," which taps into a wide-eyed proto-vaporwave zone. At Last I'm Leaving the Earth is Black Lodge ambient for the empty set.

Cinna Peyghamy unveils new album fusing Persian tombak and modular synthesis
Five years in the making, "Music For Tombak & Synth" bridges heritage, technology, and personal
identity. The project, initiated in 2019 during Peyghamy's master's thesis research on contact
microphones, was conceived as a means to reconnect with his Persian roots while exploringexperimental sound design. In the album, Peyghamy seamlessly blends the traditional Persian
tombak with modular synthesis and digital signal processing, creating a distinctive musical landscape
that bridges live improvisation and studio production. The album’s genesis traces back to Peyghamy’s
exploration of improvised electronic music and his desire to craft a performance-ready setup. Over
several years, the project evolved from capturing the energy of his live shows into a fully composed
studio work.
"Music For Tombak & Synth" stands as the first record where Peyghamy unites his dual identities as a
live performer and producer, resulting in a body of work that reflects his deep connection to family,
memory, and cultural heritage. The album features personal elements such as his father’s voice
reciting the poetry of Ahmad Shamlo on the track Dar Shab ,?? ??collaborations with long-time friend
Quelque Bourdon on clarinet, and the evocative sounds of the Persian setar, all anchored by the
physicality and rhythms of the tombak. A sentiment further reflected in the album cover; a photograph
taken by his father, Khosrow ‘Payram’ Peyghamy, picturing both his parents and grandparents.
With this release, Peyghamy moves beyond conventional boundaries of "traditional versus
contemporary" or "acoustic versus electronic," instead offering a nuanced exploration of identity
