We're told that the Hot Pot label has been specially resurrected to put out these jams from the one and only former Slum Village DJ, Mahogany Music artist, hip-hop head and house don that is Dez Andres. They are some of the edits and reworks he has been playing out on the circuit in his Detroit hometown and they get pressed up nice and loud here on fresh wax. Adres almost doesn't need an introduction. But we're gonna give him one anyway. Mentioned in the same reverential tones as such illustrious names as Hanna (aka Warren Harris), Marcellus Pittman, Rick Wilhite, Theo Parrish and, of course, Kenny Dixon Jr. (aka Moodymann), all collaborators, colleagues and compadres over many years, the long-serving Detroit producer has rocked up on the likes of Mahogani Music, Moods & Grooves, NDATL Muzik and his own imprint La Vida. Many more besides too when you take into account his hip-hop alter ego DJ Dez. Just in time for summer, Andrés aka DJ Dez hits back with three perfect house cuts. The Andrés formula is fairly simple, grab a sample, flip it, add warm basslines and drums. Thing is, nobody does it quite like Dez. The title track here is a soulful rave-up spinning on an indelible vocal chop and vamping pianos. "Chevy Status" is true to its name, a chugging mid-tempo hip-hop/house tune perfect for rolling down Woodward Avenue, or if you like, a street in your town. "Pluck Away," meanwhile, takes some jangling, Tropicalia guitars and lets them ride into the sunset, closing out a near perfect record which only builds anticipation for the Detroit man's fourth full-length, Andres IV.

New Andres 12" debut on his own label La Vida. Andres is one that really needs no introduction, but for those unfamiliar here it is: Andres, aka DJ Dez, is one of Detroit's unsung heros of underground music. Since the late 90's Andres has built up an extremely respectable catalog of that blurs the boundaries between genres, most notably his records on KDJ and Mahogani Music. Not to forget, DJ Dez is also Slum Village's DJ, has recorded many hip hop instrumental on Hipnotech Records, and his hand is on countless other Detroit records. Definitely one of the most consistent producers we've got here whose music can be summed up in one word: Quality!

Tal Fussman’s first EP for Rekids, ‘Definition’, kicks off with ‘Freedom Defines House’ - a contemporary reimagining of the classic NY house cut. Big, drummy and complete with a House-focused spoken vocal, the track channels classic Tenaglia and Vasquez sounds, just with added mix-down punch and flair.

On ’The Royal’, Survival Tactics label-boss Fussman runs with the expansive sound design and power percussion that feature across the whole ‘Definition’ EP but delves into Techno-influences with a soaring set of staccato strings and stabs. ‘Pace’ builds on ’The Royal’s Techno references but contrasts the captivating leads with a tunnelling, heads-down vibe created by rhythmic filtered hits. The closing track, ‘Even Rome Wasn’t Built in a Day’, wraps up the Definition’ EP neatly with a light but driving tone punctuated with yet more anthemic string sections.

Having released on Laurent Garnier’s COD3QR, Innvervisions, Drumpoet, and Dyinamic, Tal Fussman has already established himself as an artist to watch, but this memorable love letter to Detroit and debut for Radio Slave’s evergreen Rekids label sees him take things to the next level.

Demuir marks an inaugural release on Hot Creations with High. Alive. And Dirty., a diverse four track EP made up of all original records. The EP opens with Santa and The Elf. A penetrating bassline ratchets up and down, as horn like synths whir occasionally in the background, alongside tassel-like hi-hats. Up next, the title track High. Alive. And Dirty. provides stunning contrast. A happy, funk-fuelled number, the track incorporates disco elements with "positive and soulful vibes", before Rawness - Beat 3 features a "raw native structure", bongo sounding drums and tropical vocals to from a well- rounded, feel-good record. Eerbawdy Wants to Deeezsko rounds off the EP in fine form, with more disco elements and chiming, emotional keys. Canadian-based Demuir is a distinctive talent in the electronic music sphere. A prolific producer, Demuir has already made a home on labels including I'm A House Gangster as well as Cassy's Kwench Records, whilst he is soon set to release on Loco Dice's iconic Desolat imprint.

Dark Entries and Honey Soundsystem have teamed up to release the gay porn soundtrack work of San Francisco-based musician and producer, Patrick Cowley. Perhaps one of the most revolutionary and influential people in the cannon of disco music, Cowley created his own brand of Hi-NRG dance music coined "The San Francisco Sound." Born in Buffalo, NY on October 19, 1950, Patrick moved to San Francisco at the age of 21. He studied at the City College of San Francisco where he founded the Electronic Music Lab. During this time Patrick would create radio jingles and electronic pieces using the school's equipment, first a Putney, then an E-MU System and finally a Serge synthesizer. He would make experimental instrumental songs by blending various types of music and adapting them to the synthesizer.

By the mid-70's, Patrick's synthesizer skills landed him a job composing and producing songs for disco superstar Sylvester such as “You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)”, “Dance Disco Heat” and "Stars." This helped Patrick obtain more work as a remixer and producer. Of particular note was his 18-minute long remix of Donna Summer’s “I Feel Love” and production work with edgy New Wave band Indoor Life. By 1981 Patrick released a string of dance 12" singles, like “Menergy” and “Megatron Man”, creating the soundtrack for a generation. Also that year, he founded Megatone Records and released his debut album. Around this time Patrick was hospitalized and diagnosed with a then-unknown illness: that would later be called AIDS. Prior to his passing on November 12, 1982, he recorded two more Hi-NRG hits, “Do You Wanna Funk” for Sylvester and "Right On Target" for Paul Parker.

In 1981 Patrick was contacted by John Coletti, owner of famed gay porn company Fox Studio in Los Angeles. John had heard about Patrick's music from the legendary Sylvester and proposed he write music for his films. Patrick jumped on this offer and sent reels of his college compositions from the 70s to John in LA. Coletti then used a variable speed oscillator to adjust the pitch and speed of Patrick's songs in-sync with the film scene. "School Daze" is a collection of Cowley's instrumental songs recorded between 1973 and 1981 found in the Fox Studio vaults. Influenced by Tomita, Wendy Carlos and Giorgio Moroder, Patrick forged an electronic sound from his collection of synthesizers, modified guitars and self-constructed equipment. The listener enters a world of dark forbidden vices, introspective and reflective of Patrick's time spent in the bathhouses of San Francisco. The songs on "School Daze" range from sparse proto-techno to high octane funk to somber post-punk to musique concrete, revealing the depth of Cowley's unique talent.

Featuring over 80 minutes of music, this compilation contains soundtrack music from two Fox Studio films, "Muscle Up" and "School Daze", never before released on vinyl. The tapes were restored and transferred using the same speed and pitch settings, then remastered for vinyl by George Horn at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley, CA. The vinyl comes housed in a glossy dual pocket gatefold featuring classic gay porn imagery from the Fox Studio vaults plus an essay from Indoor Life vocalist, Jorge Soccarras. For Patrick's 63rd birthday, Dark Entries and Honey Soundsystem present a glimpse into the instrumental world of a young genius. These recordings shine a new light on the experimental side of a disco legend who was taken too soon. All proceeds from "School Daze" will be donated to Project Open Hand and the AIDS Housing Alliance.
