[HARMONY020]— One year from Ayu’s debut on Harmony—Neon Affair, four artists closely connected to the release were invited to remix their favorite track from the record. The result is a new remix EP featuring a dancefloor-driven A-side, crafted for peak-time energy, and a B-side dedicated to closing sets and trippy storytelling.

Side A opens with Maara’s remix of “Space to Come”- a progressive, sexy spacey journey with muttered vocals and a blissed-out groove, blended with her iconic sound. Keeping up with the dance-floor energy, Spray delivers a dreamy yet bubbly take on “Point Nemo.” Spray’s take showcases his distinctive musical patterns and fuzzy textures.

Alfred's visit to Viktor's hometown of Utrecht resulted in the creation of a new EP in which rhythm and color meet. The entire piece is infused with the 90s mood, including the timeless elements of that era projected through the distinctive approach of both artists. Trevor Linde (@trvlnd), a member of the Polygon crew responsible for some of the most vibrant events in Prague from 2013 to 2016, has honed his sound design skills and perfected heart-stopping live performances ranging from cinematic ambient to techno. His latest EP, "Whispering Thru The Mask," showcases three indisputable techno compositions with characteristic rigidity and tripping percussions that will make your head spin.

gyrofield debuts on XL Recordings as part of the iconic house bag series with ‘These Heavens’. The EP is an exploration into the universe and the beauty of nature via a series of shapeshifting sonics that are just as well-suited for personal introspection as they are for sweaty underground dancefloors. On the release, gyrofield says “I see a lot of value in creating danceable music that also touches base on atmospheric and spaced-out sounds. I’m a big fan of a lot of Drum and Bass that has come out but the influences for this record stem just as much from electro and techno like I Hate Models, Djrum to synth ambient, post-rock, and experimental pop a la Bjork.”

gyrofield is fast becoming electronic music’s most exciting new Drum & Bass talent. Their arrival on the scene was an anomaly. Aged 9, they discovered electronic music via the internet, stumbling across the sounds of Skrillex (Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites) and Noisia (Split The Atom) on YouTube. The otherworldly sounds intrigued gyrofield and so began their self-made journey in music. It was only after visiting Bristol at 17 that gyrofield stepped foot into a club for the first time at Unchained Recordings’ takeover of The Love Inn. This experience was transformative and ignited a new ambition in her. In four short years since then, gyrofield has gone from DIY DJ/producer to a NTS resident with releases ranging from Drum & Bass to Jungle to Ambient Techno to Dubstep via Metalheadz, Critical, Deadbeats, and Noisia’s VISION, to name a few. They have amassed a growing committed fanbase that includes Tim Reaper, DJ Flight, Doc Scott, IMANU and Joy Orbison.

“It’s just too easy to make a standard dance track,” Aphex Twin said of his mindset back in 1992. “You’ve got to put a bit of thought into it to get something a bit different.” ‘Didgeridoo’ was released on the Belgian R&S Records label in 1992, and originally peaked at #55 in the UK singles chart in May of that year. Over the last 32 years the track has become one of the essential Aphex Twin tracks in a gargantuan catalogue that continues to amaze and inspire. “I wanted to have some tracks to play to finish the raves I used to play in Cornwall, to really kill everybody off so they couldn’t dance,” Richard D James, AKA Aphex, told Select magazine back in the 90s. “Digeridoo came out of that.” Released as a 4 track EP that also included early Aphex productions (now classics) including the industrial, acidic clang of ‘Flap Head’ and hyperbolic futurism of ‘Isopropanol’, the release cemented a relationship with the R&S label that went on to release the ‘Xylem Tube’ EP and the pivotal album ‘Selected Ambient Works 85-92’ in the same year. The label’s owner & A&R Renaat Vandepapeliere reflected “When I first heard Aphex Twin’s music I said, ‘This is it!’, and everybody else said, ‘You’re crazy!’ …a lot of the hardcore R&S fans dropped us. To them it wasn’t music.” ‘Didgeridoo’ (Expanded Edition) is the first time the EP has been re-issued with extra material. Whilst digging in his DAT archive (allegedly stored in an airtight military ammo box), Richard James revisited the recordings, encoding them through a Nakamichi CR7e cassette deck, using the customised deck with vari-speed to encode at speeds “felt right at the time”. Alongside these CR7e versions, the original mixes have been remastered by Beau Thomas at Ten Eight Seven Mastering, offering a dilated insight into one of electronic music’s most endearing releases.
