Following a strong 2020 in which the label released acclaimed EPs from Piers Kirwan, Cyclonix, Lay-Far and a collective of rising stars based in the Italian city of Bologna, we have decided to kick-start 2021 with a first label outing from Terry Tester.
This Danish producer, is no newcomer, having first come to the attention of distinguished listeners as part of production duo The Works at the tail end of the 2010s. Since then, he’s delivered a handful of admired EPs for Mixed Ape Music, Copenhagen Underground Posse and, most recently, Creak Inc.
Given his quietly impressive track record, it’s no surprise that he has delivered the goods on his Boogie Café debut. The EP’s four original tracks bristle with hazy melodiousness, combining dusty musical motifs and deliciously deep sounds, with tried-and-tested dancefloor grooves.
He sets the tone with ‘Dubby’, an ultra-deep and hypnotic late-night excursion in which echoing, soulful vocal snippets and rich riffs rise above a raw, analogue bassline and fizzing drums, before offering an even more atmospheric outing in the shape of the bass-heavy broken beat/deep house fusion of ‘Breeze Unlimited’, where jazzy piano solos and spacey chords catch the ear.
Terry's love of grimy old drum machines and weighty analogue basslines is explored further on ‘Nite Mood’, a locked-in number that remains deep and alluring thanks to some spell-binding chords and yearning musical flourishes, while the bustling and busy ‘Hangover Jam’ boasts some brilliant percussion programming, whistling synthesizer melodies and one of his most impactful basslines to date. To round off the EP, Boogie Café label partner Chezz delivers a sublime interpretation of ‘Hangover Jam’, successfully re-imagining the track as a deep, melodious, jazz-funk flavoured broken beat jam. As you listen, you feel like you could fall into it and never find your way out. In that way, these 54 minutes feel like a sequel to Jaar's first hit, Space is Only Noise, set 5,000 years in the future. He told us then. He's showing us now.

NICOLAS JAAR is a Chilean sound maker born in 1990. He is known in the club world for his various dance 12?? EPs and remixes he put out from 2008 to 2011. Since his first full length (SPACE IS ONLY NOISE, 2011), he has embarked in multiple divergent path.
For the last 7 years, he has released a large volume of recordings through his label OTHER PEOPLE (including music by LYDIA LUNCH, WILLIAM BASINSKI, PATRICK HIGGINS, DJ SLUGO, LUCRETIA DALT, PIERRE BASTIEN & TOMAGA, VTGNIKE and others).
In 2015, Nicolas scored DHEEPAN by director JACQUES AUDIARD (winner of the Palme d'Or at Cannes 2015).
In 2016, Jaar launched THE NETWORK, a web of 111 fictional radio stations done in collaboration with artists JENA MYUNG and MAZIYAR PAHLEVAN. A batch of these mixes was aired on NTS radio and is archived here: (https://bit.ly/35PwrHu). In 2017, THE NETWORK became a book, published by PRINTED MATTER In NY.
In the spring of 2019, Jaar was commissioned for a 9 hour improvisation in the OUDE KERK CHURCH in Amsterdam which he performed alongside two organists and a dozen surround speakers pointed at the ceiling of the church.
Nicola?s is currently curating a residency for sound artists in the West Bank that takes place in a 130 year-old converted food storage shack in Bethlehem (within the DAR YUSUF NASRI JACIR FOR ART AND RESEARCH)
Residents so far include composer SEBASTIAN JATZ RAWICZ and researcher and artist ROLANDO HERNANDEZ.
In the fall of 2019, he presented INCOMPREHENSIBLE SUN, a sound and light installation in a 200-meter-long ex-military shooting range in Zaandam (The Netherlands) and RETAINING THE ENERGY, BUT LOSING THE IMAGE alongside artist VINCENT DE BELLEVAL which consisted of 10 large rotating parabolic reflectors that capture and emit hyper-focalized surround sound.
For the first SHARJAH ARCHITECTURE TRIENNALE (curated by ADRIAN LAHOUD IN 2019) Nicola?s performed a piece for 16 buried speakers in the desert near the MLEIHA ARCHAEOLOGICAL CENTRE.
Nicola?s has collaborated with artist LYDIA OURAHMANE (MUSIC FOR TWO SEAS, Stromboli), FKA TWIGS (MAGDALENE), and PATRICK HIGGINS under the name AEAEA. He is also a current member of improvisational ensemble ¡MIE?RCOLES! alongside dancer and choreographer STEPHANIE JANAINA, founding member of research collective SHOCK FOREST GROUP, and half of the band DARKSIDE

Big grooves, irresistible basslines, horns for days, funk for-ever. This superb piece of music from the legendary Toho Records catalogue is a MUST HAVE for fans of Japanese gems.
It’s the original soundtrack of Shigeyuki Amane’s excellent TV movie Golden Dog (Ôgon No Inu). With a secret agent dog carrying secret documents. Last appearance by the one and only Reiko Ike!

Berlin based DJ Marie Lung is a regular performer at some of the best venues in the house and techno capital. After discovering Marie Lung’s set on HÖR and being blown away by her performances on the channel consistently, we contacted the artist to see if she had any demo tracks for us.? ? The resulting tracks were two timeless and evocative house records that we play constantly in the Dreaming Forever offices. A spaced out remix from the inimitable Vril and a super classy rework from Matthias Reiling, one half of Session Victim, makes up the release.? ? We are proud to release Marie’s inaugural record.
