To celebrate its 30th anniversary, Plastikman's redefining acid techno masterpiece, Sheet One, has been mastered from the original tapes and reissued on vinyl via Mute and NovaMute.
Released in 1993 on Mute's subsidiary label NovaMute, this record was the debut for Richie Hawtin's alias Plastikman. 30 years on Sheet One is a landmark album in the field of electronic music, it changed the shape of what the genre could be and became.
Introducing one of techno's most recognisable logos, the album achieved a degree of notoriety for its acid blotter-style perforated artwork. Musically it focuses on laser-precise minimalist rhythms to drive a series of echo-box acid lines that gradually acquire power over the course of lengthy album tracks, with frequent use of the Roland TB-303, which gained prominence in the electronic music world as a staple of Chicago's acid house scene. Hawtin once described Sheet One perfectly in an interview with MusicRadar, saying "...It's music for the end of the party as you're melting into the floor, which is exactly what the name Plastikman was made to represent."
This seminal album helped to establish the template for minimal techno, and is a must listen for lovers of electronic music.
Available on double bio vinyl.

ABOUT
In celebration of its 30th anniversary, Plastikman, aka Richie Hawtin, has remastered his groundbreaking second album, Musik, from the original tapes for a new limited bio-vinyl edition.
The record was first released in November 1994 through NovaMute and Plus 8, following the debut Plastikman album, Sheet One (1993). A masterclass in minimal techno, Musik quickly propelled Hawtin to new levels of success. The release followed Plastikman's first-ever live performance in a black vinyl-encased room at a semi-derelict Packard Plant in Detroit, where Hawtin was central to the burgeoning underground scene.
Before the full album hit the shelves, the track 'Plastique' (which was later described by Q as "...the flipside to Hawtin's early singles, all ticking percussion, feline acid tweaks, and cushioned sub-bass") set the stage for a more dance floor-friendly album, albeit one with an unsettling and sinister side.
The album, described by The Guardian as "music as you've never heard it before" and by The Wire, who made it one of their Albums of the Year, as "... a masterpiece", defined a moment in techno that still echoes today.
Now, 30 years later, the album has been remastered from the original tapes, reminding us why Plastikman is a name that still resonates and that the album's intensity - on and off the dance floor - has lost none of its potency in the intervening years.
Available on limited edition double bio-vinyl from Mute and NovaMute.

Richie Hawtin's triumphant return to the stage as Plastikman in 2010 proved that his best-known alias is as innovative and as relevant as ever. Hawtin has taken Plastikman's most classic material, originally released between 1993 and 2003, and reworked it for a truly live performance accompanied by mind-bending, synchronized visuals-a sound and light show like no other, one that collapses the distance between present-day festivals and the uncompromisingly underground warehouse parties of the mid '90s. For many attendees, this is their first taste of Plastikman. Since 2003, Hawtin has been far better known simply as Richie Hawtin, the celebrated DJ and mastermind behind the Minus label. Some fans today were still infants when Plastikman's acid ripple first began streaming from Hawtin's basement studio in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. For long-time devotees and new fans alike, Hawtin now presents Plastikman's Arkives, a comprehensive release that pulls together 17 years of the Plastikman story so far, including remastered versions of all six previously released Plastikman albums and a trove of rarities, new remixes, unreleased sessions and new material. Arkives is a strictly limited, made-to-order edition, which means only as many copies will be manufactured as have been pre-ordered. Arkives Analog is the vinyl version on 6 pieces of 180 gram vinyl, featuring exclusive tracks taken from the Replikants remixes, plus a limited edition Plastikman poster. The set comes in a special deluxe custom box. Just as Hawtin and his crew used to cap admission to their underground parties, Arkives' edition will be strictly limited and it's a once in a lifetime chance to experience the full sweep of Plastikman's journey so far. 1. Plastikman - Gak (Gaiser's Oozing Through Windsor Tunnel Remix) 2. Plastikman - Akoustik (Francois K Electro Akoustik Remix) 3. Plastikman - Glob (Hobo's Acid Mix) 4. Plastikman - Mind In Rewind (Steve Bicknell Lost Remix) 5. Plastikman - Plasticity (Dubfire Remix) 6. Plastikman - Krakpot (Moby Remix) 7. Plastikman - Ping Pong (Ambivalent's Consumed by Pongs Remix) 8. Plastikman - Oedipus Komplex (Heartthob Rework) 9. Plastikman - Disconnect (Gaiser's Out Of Touch Remix) 10. Plastikman - Mind Rewind (Carl Craig Minus Meditation Movement Mix) 11. Plastikman - Mind Rewind (Ryan Crosson Remix) 12. Plastikman - Helikopter (Green Velvet Remix) 13. Plastikman - Plastique ( matthew johnson remix )

Plastikman, - Slinky
VINYLEXCLUSIVE TRACK MONKEY!!!
As anticipation builds around Plastikman's forthcoming Arkives box set, Richie Hawtin sneaks up with something we weren't expecting: a new Plastikman single.
If you've heard Hawtin spin this summer, you're going to recognize Slinky as one of the highlights of his set: a blistering acid track that immediately stands out from today's standard-issue bassline techno hits. Ominous and insistent, it corkscrews deep into your brain, digging a wobbly 303 groove and hammering the point home with white-hot 909 snares. It's got all the hallmarks of classic Plastikman, from the octave-jumping acid lines to the white-knuckled, edge-of-your-seat suspense. In terms of intensity, it's right up there with "Glob" and "Spastik"-but, true to its name, it's slinkier and sexier, moving with a grinding, side-winding shuffle. It's quite a tricky business, rhythmically speaking, with unhinged triplet patterns slipping between the cracks of a stomping 4/4 beat. At several crucial points, the downbeat drops out, leaving you unmoored and bobbing dangerously out to sea. It's thrills, chills, and spills galore, and the same goes for the B-side, Monkee, a properly minimalist jungle-drum groove made of dizzily syncopated toms and clean, linear 808 patter. It's a trip into the darkest recesses of the rainforest, complete with the screeching of unknown beasts. And, like "Slinky," the groove works two different ways, with three-against-four pulses tugging your brain in two directions at once. In a word: dizzying. Beyond the obvious impact of both tracks, the single is particularly notable for being the first new Plastikman material since 2005's Nostalgik.2. Or… is it? In the run-up to Arkives, Hawtin has hinted at a trove of unreleased Plastikman material, tracks that have never seen the light of day. Are these tracks part of that bounty? Or are they new expressions of the classic Plastikman style? Hawtin isn't saying-all we know is that they're absolutely devastating.

ABOUT
In celebration of its 30th anniversary, Plastikman, aka Richie Hawtin, has remastered his groundbreaking second album, Musik, from the original tapes for a new limited bio-vinyl edition.

4. Song Of The Woods Nymphs
Charlotte de Witte continues to establish herself as a driving force on the contemporary techno scene with The Healer, her second EP on seminal British imprint NovaMute. The four-tracker comes after the Belgian has fully broken through with a dark, dense and driving sound that is proudly unrelenting. Her meteoric rise has come off the back of a series of huge productions, plus standout sets at key festivals and clubs all around the world.
Charlotte's fresh and innovative sound is immediately laid bare on opener 'The Healer', with eight minutes of spine-tingling, hypnotic techno. The sleek drums and icy hi-hats soon cast their spell, as well-crafted synths unfold up top to bring real emotion. 'Silence' is another slice of tunnel vision techno with perfectly designed drums rolling on and synths peeling off the groove. It is trance inducing and otherworldly, with eerie voices adding to the all-consuming atmosphere. Then comes 'Kuda', a track built on monstrous kicks that hit hard and drive forward with real force. Filtered vocals bring character, and sharp edged percussion grows ever louder to take the track, and the club, to the next level. Last of all, 'Song Of The Wood Nymphs' shows another side to the producer with three minutes of suspensory synths and expansive ambient sounds that are filled with drama and tension.

Nicolas Bougaïeff presents a new four track EP On The Grid. This is the final instalment in a series of EPs inspired by Greg Egan's sci-fi novel Permutation City (1994).
Tracklist:
Eden Configuration
Rip Tie Cut Toy Man
On The Grid
Skyscraper Model
Opening track 'Eden Configuration' combines a monolithic synth line with propulsive bass grooves. 'Rip Tie Cut Toy Man' introduces a furtive synth melody tucked beneath rhythmic rumbles. Bougaïeff's voice is featured for the first time on the stripped back title track 'On The Grid', a playful alternative to dark dystopia. The result is a fast and upbeat cut, reminiscent of 90s minimal yet delivered with punchy modern production. Closer 'Skyscraper Model' features a fluid acid line amidst reverberating warehouse beats, providing a sense of energetic resolution. First EP in the triptych, Dust, was released in 2018 on Max Cooper’s Mesh label and was followed by Permutation Djinn on NovaMute later that year.
Appeals to fans of Max Cooper, Lucy, Terence Fixmer, Regis, Marcel Dettmann, Recondite, Ben Klock, Chris Liebing, Planetary Assault Systems
300 copies 12” vinyl

Release Info:
Terence Fixmer returns to NovaMute with a new EP, The Swarm out on vinyl on 24 May 2019.
Terence Fixmer’s career has spanned two decades with releases on many acclaimed labels, most recently releasing his sixth solo album Through The Cortex, on Ostgut Ton. His sound deftly avoids repetition by developing soundscapes which maintain musical depth and integrity and he above all preserves an original style, an increasingly experimental, simultaneously ruthless and instantly recognizable aesthetic.
“The title track ‘The Swarm’, I made with the full Roland System 100 [1970s’s vintage semi-modular analogue synth]. I had been collecting all the individual parts of the System 100 and was happy to finally find the sequencer System 100-104. This was the first full track I created with it.”

Nicolas Bougaïeff returns to NovaMute with ‘Permutation Djinn’ inspired by Greg Egan’s sci-fi novel ‘Permutation City’. A follow up EP will be released
later this year.
Following the success of recent NovaMute releases by Charlotte de Witte and ANNA, Nicolas has delivered a stellar techno EP. Bougaïeff’s interpretation on ‘Permutation Djinn’ attempts to translate the stages of
Egan’s novel into music while respecting the constraints of making club friendly tracks.
The opener ‘Woke Up As A Copy’ is an expansive track with Blade Runneresque metallic reverberations. ‘Panic Time Tryout’ is a peak time cut, fostering the futurist atmosphere with an unsettling melody. ‘Little Djinn’ is the most frenetic of the tracks whilst ‘No Escape’ takes it back to peak time with resounding drums and drills.

Tracklisting:

3. Escapism
Short Info:
NovaMute welcomes ANNA to it’s roster, the Brazilian producer has been a mainstay of the Beatport Techno chart over the last year. The first track on ANNA’s debut EP for NovaMute , Razor was born while playing with her Roland MKS-80, a synth from 1985 and one of ANNA’s favourites. You can hear the fat, juicy sound on the breakdown and ever evolving throughout. The track has already been getting a great reaction when played out in her sets. Escapism plays with trippy arpeggio’s that lay down the atmosphere for the whole track, it feels really dense and trippy but still powerful, making use of heavier drum sounds for the groove. The last track on the EP Dreamweaver, is a simple track that always works well on the dance floor. ANNA reworked this track many times before deciding to strip down the beat and focus on the final sequence, sometimes the simple ideas are the ones that work the best.

Nova Mute, a subsidiary of Mute (Depeche Mode, Goldfrapp, New Order, Liars, Erasure, Moby), began in 1992 as a response to the growing demand for techno releases in the UK. Originally presenting white labels and
imports, NovaMute went on to release records by Plastikman, Speedy J, Juan Atkins, Luke Slater and Joey Beltram to name a few,
this is Nova Mute’s first release since over ten years ago:
Tracklist:
A1 Cognitive Resonance
B1 Truthful Hyperbole
B2 Fake News
Nicolas Bougaïeff presents his new EP on seminal British imprint NovaMute. As a producer he harbours a diverse musical background, having studied in a conservatoire setting whilst foraying into anti-authoritarian rave culture. He is also a respected lecturer, regularly teaching masterclasses in composition and speaking at global events such as Mutek and Ableton Loop - the results of which come to life in the inquisitive spirit of his productions.
Cognitive Resonance explores elements of psytrance, gabber and techno through a compositional lens, drawing on the artist’s love for avant-garde forms and long-standing relationship with the electronic music community.
The title track lays out long, expansive phrases and warped crescendos to create a disorienting structure, whilst distant harmonies, distorted kick drums and shattering effects merge into a hypnotic form on 'Truthful Hyperbole’. Lastly, ‘Fake News’ mangles our sense of rhythmic familiarity, disrupting the 4/4 beat with a complex metre and sinister melody.
This is NovaMute’s first release since MOTOR (Bryan Black and Oly Grasset) over ten years ago. T as well as forging invaluable links with labels such as Tresor and Probe, which allowed them to license rare tracks for a wider audience.
Forthcoming releases on NovaMute will include EP’s from Terence Fixmer and Charlotte de Witte.

Info
We Release Jazz is ecstatic (purrrr!) to announce the official reissue of Hiroshi Suzuki's glorious jazz-fusion-funk Holy Grail Cat (originally released in 1976), sourced from the original masters and available on limited edition 180 gram vinyl mastered at half speed for full audiophile sound, as well as on digipack CD. Both versions come with liner notes by Teruo Isono.
Cat was recorded in October 1975 at at Nippon Columbia Studio, while Hiroshi Suzuki was visiting his home country of Japan after moving to Las Vegas in 1971 to play with Buddy Rich and perfect his craft. Back on his old stomping grounds, the man known as Neko (Cat) immediately reunited with his dear friends for an epic two day session of groove magic. The chemistry was still intact. The skills and style had grown.
The result, Cat, is a smooth masterpiece, a deep and soulful affair where stunning trombone solos by Hiroshi Suzuki flirt with Takeru Muraoka's heavenly saxophone and the sensual rhythm section of Hiromasa Suzuki (keyboards), Kunimitsu Inaba (bass), and Akira Ishikawa (drums).
Celebrated in jazz collectors circles, in the lofi beat scene, and among music diggers around the world, Cat has become one of the most sought-after Japanese jazz albums of all time and, much like Ryo Fukui's Scenery, has fascinated old and young generations alike.
Points of interests
- For fans of jazz, fusion, funk, trombone, Japanese jazz, smooth rides, cats, allure.
- Official reissue of the glorious jazz-fusion album by Japanese trombonist extraordinaire Hiroshi "Neko" Suzuki.
- 10th release from We Release Jazz, following Ryo Fukui's Scenery, Mellow Dream, A Letter from Slowboat, and Ryo Fukui in New York, the soundtrack of Le Cercle Rouge by Eric Demarsan, Stuff Combe 5 + Percussion, Marc Moulin's Placebo Live 1971 and Boillat Thérace Quintet albums. We Release Jazz is the sister-label of Geneva-based WRWTFWW Records (Midori Takada's Through The Looking Glass and Lunar Cruise with Masahiko Sato, Pierre Barouh's Le Pollen, Jun Fuka-machi's Nicole, Grauzone's discography, …)

Info:
On her second album Ursgal Mongolian singer Enji creates a unique blend of Jazz and Folk with the thousand-year-old traditions of Mongolian music. Currently based in Munich, her lyrics tell personal stories about unbearable distances, the oddness of being on earth and the simple truths in life.
She's accompanied by Paul Brändle on guitar and Munguntovch Tsolmonbayar on double bass.
Born in Ulaanbaatar, Enji grew up in a yurt to a working-class family. Having always been drawn to music, dance and literature, she initially wanted to become a music teacher with little ambitions to compose or be on stage. A program by the local Goethe Institute sparked her passion for Jazz and eventually led her to become a performing artist. Inspired by the music of Carmen McRae, Ella Fitzgerald and Nancy Wilson, Enji started writing songs of her own, cherishing this newfound means of expression. Ursgal is the first record featuring her original compositions.

Juan Atkins and Moritz von Oswald – the two indispensable protagonists of the Electric Garden – plug back into the wilderness.
‘Transport’ – the full length effort brings together a set of studio-refined sequences aimed at colonizing some of the dark energy that
pulsates through those areas that are thoroughly electrified, even if not ‘on the grid’.
The Detroit-Berlin axis triangulated to a third point which, like the atomic particle that lives in two places at once, flickers between a
form of techno-charged ambience and a futuristic club-jazz which cannot be broken down into constitutive parts.
Borderland remains caught in a state of enraptured stillness, invisibly moving between every imagined future for electronic sound
making.
The result: a font from which springs serene and exhilarating musical ideas that vibrate with refined energy for sixty seconds in every
minute.

Re-issue alert! Whirlpool Productions "Fly Hi/Gimme" appeared first in 1993 on the one time and made up label 5th&Madison. The fascination that a young Justus Köhncke had for the then bubbling sounds, strictly rhythms and nu grooves of New York house music sparked the idea to join in the chant with a production of his own. Add his co-producer Fred Heimermann, the buzzing DJ and brilliant music journalist Hans Nieswandt and a visitor from San Francisco named Eric D. Clark, the singer Heather Sachs and samples by Mel Tormé to the flamboyant picture and you know why the records sounds like it does: swinging house music through the lenses of a colorful cast or how some German people thought New Jersey's Zanzibar would sound. Fly Hi embodies the sophisticated deep and soulful approach, while Gimme satisfies the more hysteric approach. Favoured and championed by DJs like Tony Humphries at the time, officially released by Snap's Logic Records and never vacated from Move D's record bag, it's re-issued in all its glory for the first time on Running Back. Additionally, Move D puts his fingerprint on it with a disco leaning and upbeat remix of "Gimme". Extensive liner notes by Hans Nieswandt upon request. Life is still in hi-fly!

Jancen - Quintessence

Jancen - Elusive

Jancen - Diminished Dub
4
Jancen - Unattributed
12” vinyl with full cover print
TRACKLIST:
A1. Quintessence
A2. Elusive
B1. Diminished Dub
B2. Unattributed
INFO:
On Figure X45 we are presenting a new up and coming artist, Jancen. With only a handful releases under his belt, this promising young dutchman delivers immaculate productions that veer between the deep and the jacking, always powerful and driving but with a strong sense of groove pervading throughout.
His opener Quintessence leans on the hypnotic side, distilling the effect of a mesmerizingly simple loop reduced to the beauty of its essential elements. Racking up the momentum is tightly bouncing Elusive, riding a funky acid riff that transforms the track into one of those unexpected moments of raising the energy mid-set.
On the B-side, Jancen showcases his talent of building mind-expanding dub-techno excursions, as the echoes of Diminished Dub roll out while even packing some proper propulsive percussion on top! Final track Unattributed takes us way down the rabbit hole into atmospheric trippy territory as searing hats pave the path ever further into the belly of the beast.
For buyers of the digital package, Frostbite sits somewhere in between all of the above, combining sparse stabs of resonant synths with thumping kicks and a pumping rhythm to find that complex equilibrium of depth and charge…
Stay tuned for more tracks from Jancen to keep you warm later this winter, coming right here on Figure.

A1 : Phaideaux Corner (6:17)
A2 : Alleycat (14:15)
B1 : Splat (11:41)
B2 : You Can’t Be Sure (4:14)
B3 : Nosegay (4:51)
Release Notes:
Come for the leopard, stay for the stone cold jams. Yet another thrilling, funky-prog jazzy-rock fusion beauty from Ian Carr’s Nucleus. Originally released on Vertigo in 1975, Alleycat was never re-pressed so those original copies are now very tricky to score. Like all the Nucleus records, it’s aged ridiculously well and this Be With re-issue, re-mastered from the original analogue tapes, shows off just why this deserves to be back in press.
Genius trumpeter and visionary composer Ian Carr was one of the most respected British musicians of his era. He was a true pioneer and saw the potential in fusing the worlds of jazz with rock, just as Miles Davis and The Tony Williams Lifetime did in the US. In late 1969, following the demise of the Rendell-Carr quintet, and tiring of British jazz, Carr assembled the legendary Nucleus. Regarding music as a continuous process, Nucleus refused to “recognise rigid boundaries” and worked on delivering what they saw as a “total musical experience”. We can get behind that.
Under bandleader Carr, Nucleus existed as a fluid line-up of inventive, skilled musicians. This constant evolution and revolution was all part of the continuous musical exploration and discovery that took jazz to new levels. And the music has stayed relevant. To steal a line from a recent review of our re-issue of Roots, when it comes to anything Nucleus “it’s basically already hip-hop”.
Alleycat was the last Nucleus album recorded for the Vertigo label. Released in 1975, it was again meticulously produced by Jon Hiseman and is every bit as sinuous as anything else the group had recorded. As far as riff-laden accidental cop-funk goes, there’s so much energy coursing through the music that at times it sounds like a live recording. It’s pretty unbeatable.
Uptempo opener “Phaideaux Corner” is a funk-flavoured opus with a groove that simply swaggers. This trademark Roger Sutton piece benefits from Trevor Tomkins’s percussive expertise and some excellent sax and keyboard soloing. Check out Geoff Castle on squelchy, stabbing Moog duties. Ian Carr’s elegantly laidback title track is a lengthy suite of magisterial themes. Typically complex, it still gets you hooked and is just riddled with the funk. Carr builds up his initially “straight” trumpet solo with later use of echo to mesmeric effect. And there’s some excellent wah-wah guitar shredding by Ken Shaw too. Nice.
The second side opens with the killer “Splat” and finds Nucleus really ripping it up. A fat, funky bass guitar riff introduces us to the track and stays with us until the end. The often mangled bass groove is pushed along by rattling drums and percussion, dropping out for some restful moments of spacey calm, and along the way picking up some lengthy keyboard noodling by Castle. So so good.
The cool “You Can’t Be Sure” is a gentle jam with Shaw on 12-string acoustic guitar, together with Carr’s muted trumpet and some marvellous fretless work from Sutton for extra colour. The album closes with Bob Bertles’ galloping “Nosegay”, written perhaps as a response to some of the faster Mahavishnu Orchestra pieces. It’s an example of well crafted jazz-rock that doesn’t compromise any of its jazziness, yet it still very definitely rocks.
This Be With re-issue of Alleycat has been re-mastered from the original Vertigo master tapes, Simon Francis’ mastering working together with Pete Norman’s cut to weave their usual magic with these wonderful recordings. The cool AF cover - that leopard was just a cat before he heard Nucleus, you know - has been restored as the finishing touch to this long overdue re-issue.

French by way of Berlin DJ/producer La Fraicheur finally delivers with a first 9-track
album, Self-Fulfilling Prophecy, her first release on the InFiné label.
This remarkably dense, dancefloor-oriented album oscillates between techno,
ambient and electronic music, a mesmeric yet pounding effort that gets the body and
the mind moving. Gone and The Movements, the most vindictive and propulsive
tracks are veritable ecstatic missiles that are sure to create aftershocks on
dancefloors for months to come.
While this album was primarily produced in Berlin, where La Fraicheur has been
living for the past six years, it also owes a debt to Detroit. Over the summer of 2017,
the young woman was privy to a six-week residence at Underground Resistance
mythical studios. There, she alternated between immersive work sessions,
surrounded by the machine that birthed some of techno culture’s most iconic tracks,
and long bike ride among the city’s deserted highways and luxuriating abandoned
gardens. She also met Mike Banks, the label’s mythical figure: «one of the most
important meetings in my life.» She ventured into the adjacent General Motors
Fisher Plant to record takes, which make up the raw material for the track «Plant
21».
The musician has been making strides in the electronic sphere for over ten years
now, at first solely as a DJ, and then as a producer. Having been initiated to the art of
mixing since her teenage years, she absorbed a number of music styles before
focusing on house and techno, which her older sister introduced her to by taking her
to clubs such as Le Pulp. At the beginning of the 2000s, she played regular set in
Paris and elsewhere, while experimenting with a number of jobs in the music
industry. While living in Montréal she rubbed shoulders with the indie rock milieu
(even picking up a guitar for some time), before setting out to Berlin.
«I thought I would stop mixing when I moved to Berlin. Once there, I quickly realized
that I hadn’t seen anything yet in terms of electronic music in general and clubs in
particular... In Berlin, I was totally invigorated: I have found the urge to mix and I felt
for the first time the urge to compose.» In Berlin, in those clubs where the nights
stretch endlessly, she started dancing and developing a much more organic
relationship with music. In 2015, she decided to put aside all of her moonlighting and
concentrate exclusively and intensively on her music, alternating between DJ sets
and composition sessions in her home studio.
She became a resident at Salon zur Wilde Renate, one of the city’s leading clubs,
where she threw the Quer nights — a reference to the German word quer (which
means «across» or «sideways») and the word queer — for over two years. A
member of the Female:Pressure network, La Fraicheur is also a committed
feminist activist, and an active member of the fervent queer scene. She is a guest of
the scene’s hottest parties of the moment Gegen, Pornceptual or even House of
Red Doors.
Present on several fronts at the same time, she maintains a close relationship with
the Mensch Meier, of which she speaks as her home. A creation of the legendary
Fusion Festival team, the highly alternative club (which is more than a club) is
renowned for its very eclectic music programming, as well as political commitment.
Overseeing the techno part of the club, La Fraicheur also shares in the political
values that the club seeks to defend, which are both part and parcel of the
establishment’s identity.
«I want to use moments of dancing to stimulate a bit of political awakening,» she
says, and, speaking of her album in particular, (on which are scattered various
samples of politically explicit content (for example, excerpts from an interview with
Angela Davis). While Self Fulfilling Prophecy clearly aspires to raise awareness, it
does so subtly, without ever relegating music to the second class. This is neither
«ready-to-think» or «ready-to-dance», but an assembly of sophisticated rhythms,
sounds and words that it are up to each listener to interpret in their own way. La
Fraicheur does not seek to deliver a message, or impose a discourse, but to distill
an idea and suggest a relationship to the world – a report to the world based on the
affirmation of self and acceptance of others in all their differences.
