(2023 Edition) Repressed for 2023, PT 2 of Onra's classic Chinoiseries series, which had him going off digging all over China and Vietnam on a quest for loops..'Same Same but Different', the familiar phrase heard throughout south east Asia, a perfect description to characterize Onra’s latest project, a follow up to his 2007 LP - Chinoiseries. So almost five years later, here we go back on the trail of another Asian beat journey with 32 Hip-Hop instrumentals inspired by Chinese and Vietnamese music. A lot has happened in between: The Big Payback with Byron the Aquarius, a beats LP “1.0.8” plus 2010’s acclaimed boogie tinged hip hop LP “Long Distance” while along the way he’s revisited South East Asia on a few occasions adding to his Asian record stack on each occasion. The exotic, mysterious pop and folk Chinese records of the 60s and 70s with their epic operatic and orchestral feel and sealed from the Western counter culture rumblings of the time, not to mention alive with vintage vinyl hiss and crackle, may not seem the easiest source material to work with but after hermetically sealing himself in his Parisian beat cave Onra has come with a more than worthy return for all the time and money spent in the vinyl basements and backrooms of the Far East. There's ample variation but a coherent whole, from the more electronic feel of "A New Dynasty" and "All Night", to the soundtrack vibe of "Mai's Theme" and "Fight Or Die" and the straight beat sound of "No Matter What" and "Remember The Name" and he's even found some breaks! Inspired by the idea of the LP as a sequence of film scenes this intense burst of beats and distinct vibes form an accomplished rounded full length.

A sparsely documented yet iconic era for Ted Milton's psycho-funk afro punk fake no-wave pogo jazz group Blurt has been brought to life with an expansive collection of restored versions of live performances. Captured on early camcorders during the frenzy of counter-cultural activity that characterised Europe around the fall of the Iron Curtain, these recordings of Blurt, recently posted by fans on YouTube, are a visceral reminder of a scene whose influence is writ large on today's alternative music culture.
Ted Milton's trio have produced an impressive string of albums, not to mention his numerous solo recordings. Featuring 15 tracks spanning their extensive discography from their 1980 debut single – also the title of this collection – “My Mother Was A Friend Of An Enemy Of The People” to 1999’s “Eat Up Your House”, this live collection of performances have been digitised by whatever means available. The original sound captured by the inbuilt microphones of these camcorders and the videos concerned are in many cases the only documentation of an iconic era whose zeitgeist was so masterfully epitomised for many by Blurt.
Refurbished / restored/ repurposed using new AI tools there is a spectral roughness to them but surfing on these reconstructed waveforms, the inimitable machinations of Blurt ride out once again, emerging from a pixilated oblivion to put into perspective the peculiar absurdity of our human condition.

Imagine if you could put together a dream line-up of MCs and producers from all four corners of the rap world?
That’s what artist and illustrator Gangster Doodles set out to do when he put together a stellar collection of tracks by the rappers and talent that inspire his work for the first Gangster Music comp back in 2018. Working on that he says “was one of the most satisfying & fun projects I've been able to be a part of and the idea of continuing the series was a no-brainer. If it ain't broke and all that – this second volume follows the first with an all-star line-up which features everyone from hotly-tipped emerging Producers and MCs like Ovrkast, Shungu, Woodie Smalls, Big Baby Scumbag next to underground perennials like Teebs, Ohbliv and Knxwlege all the way up to top flight producer Dam Funk and established vets like M.E.D, Black Milk, Lil B and Open Mike Eagle.

An exhausting compiling process via emails, DMs, texts and a myriad of other electronic form of badgering and prodding, the last few years have been busy for Marlon "Gangster Doodles" Sassy. In addition to this he released his acclaimed Gangster Doodles (The Book) alongside an ever-expanding array of prints, original works, apparel and exhibitions across the globe. On one of them was a black and white image of Toucan Sam chilling in a tree. In large colorful font, it said you could cut out the image and color it in to create your own version. That idea really resonated with me. Continuing the cartoon cat theme from Vol.1 I chose Felix the Cat to help encapsulate this idea and then flip it on its head. A black and white album cover that could be left as is or if the mood strikes- go and grab some markers, pens, crayons, paint, ink and create your own unique doodle versions”

That’s what artist and illustrator Gangster Doodles set out to do when he put together a stellar collection of tracks by the rappers and talent that inspire his work for the first Gangster Music comp back in 2018. Working on that he says “was one of the most satisfying & fun projects I've been able to be a part of and the idea of continuing the series was a no-brainer. Thankfully All City was interested in keeping the party going”

The flipside features two non LP tracks - the ghostly rave sound of In My Room with the New Jackson signature sound of dusty boogie synths and vocoder of Leave Me Making closing out the 12 inch.

The Smoke Clears is the abstract ambient project of producer John Daly (One Track/ Secret Sundaze). He debuted this alias with an eponymous LP in 2013 on Further Records and we're proud to present a part 2. Following up his 2013 LP of the same name, this record builds upon it's predecessor's ambient abstractions while adding another layer of nuanced melodic contemplation. Kicking off with "Fathoms" a deceptively calm track but with a paced sense of urgency which is evident throughout the LP, belying it's calm undertones. Continuing at this pace for the rest of the first side the LP takes a side turn with the lush "Slipstream" melting into the only vocal track of the LP - the dubbed out bliss of "Oh My Days" featuring Cian Finn. Showcasing a side that might not be familiar to those who come to the table with knowledge of the Galway producers house and techno releases on his own imprint One Track Records, Secret Sundaze, Running Back and more, this is lush downtempo machine music equally as at home cranked up one louder soundsystem style, or for late night home listening.

Having recently won a Grammy (1965) for "The Girl From Ipanema", by 1967 all the big name stars from up north were breaking down his door to work with the new "Gershwin of Brazil." In fact, Jobim had just finished working on an album with Frank Sinatra when he went into the studio to record this album. Recorded in 1967, Wave is actually one of the lesser known masterpieces of Brazilian music, and undoubtedly one of Jobim's greatest. Here Jobim and the great Claus Ogerman lead a top-flight cast on hidden classics like Batidinha, Triste and Wave. Includes bonus CD of the album.

FINALLY! The very first commercial release of two legendary remixes of Arthur Russell's "In The Light Of The Miracle". Both are widely regarded as transcendent masterpieces and very much befitting of the title “holy grails”.
These long-beloved mixes are the types you'd wish would last for eternity. With almost 30 minutes of music here, we very nearly get our desires granted. At last, these jaw-dropping mixes are widely available to every Arthur fan in the world. This is musical perfection.
The deep Loft classic "In The Light Of The Miracle" remained unreleased during Arthur's lifetime, finally discovered when Phillip Glass included the original version on Another Thought on Point Music in 1993. As Steve Knutson told us, when Another Thought was being put together, the plan was to release a companion album of remixes that was overseen by Steve D'Aquisto but the project only got as far as these two remixes of "In The Light Of The Miracle".
Some dodgy scans of some centre label designs suggest that Point Music might’ve been planning to release these on a 12" but it didn’t happen. The story goes that Gilles Peterson heard the remixes on a visit to the Point Music offices and wanted to release them on Talkin’ Loud. We’re not sure how many white label copies made it out into the wild, but again, these remixes didn’t make it to a proper release.
These remixes both extend and undeniably enhance the original, elevating it to new heights. The 13 minute remix on the A-side is by Danny Krivit & Tony Smith with editing duties performed by Tony Morgan. As ever with Arthur, the music is almost impossible to describe: is it Disco? Garage House? Avant Garde? None of these tags do full justice to its sheer majesty. You best just listen. Stretching out the original with some unbelievably great percussive elements, until we're in a deeply spiritual, otherworldly realm, it's just too beautiful for words. As many have claimed, it's the prototype for EVERYTHING.
The "Ponytail Club Mix (Part 1 & 2)", produced by Tony Morgan in the mid-90s, is in a more up-tempo style, with vocals higher in the mix, the BPM upped to 120 and the addition of a housey 4/4 kick drum. A 14 minute epic, you could say this is a more straight ahead "club-friendly" mix (but can things ever be that straightforward with Arthur?!) It also has some really interesting vocal parts not used in the other versions, including some vocals from guest poet Allen Ginsberg.
These remixes are part of the same original project that also produced the Another Thought album so it seems only right that they have a sleeve that matches. Thanks again to Janette Beckman for letting us use another of her photos of Arthur and the rest of the design follows what Margery Greenspan, Tina Lauffer and Michael Klotz did for Another Thought back in 1994.
Simon Francis remastered the original audio for both tracks and Cicely Balston's precise cut for Alchemy at AIR Studios ensures this 12" well and truly slaps. The immaculate Record Industry pressing will ensure this incredibly sought-after treasure finds a home in many more collections, this and every year.

Last year whilst DJing with miche at Shapes festival in the snow-capped mountains of Switzerland, a breathtaking yet ominous Alpine sky suddenly became a picture postcard moment. The clouds parted and a double rainbow formed, as miche dropped Studio Rio's bossa nova remake of Bill Withers’ all-time classic 'Lovely Day'. From there, the dancefloor shifted gears and morphed into full-swing feel-good vibes, in a beautiful, spontaneous moment nobody could have planned for.
Mr Bongo now proudly presents a reissue of this brilliant, bossa-channelling Bill Withers reinterpretation from Studio Rio’s 2014 release ‘The Brazil Connection’. Masterminded by the German, Grammy award-winning Berman Brothers, the project was born out of their deep love of Brazilian music. “Our goal was to bring the Brazilian joie de vivre to iconic performances by well-known artists. What would these classic songs sound like had they been recorded in the studios of Rio de Janeiro in the first place, with the best Brazilian musicians and arrangers?” the brothers reflect.
Capturing the life force of Brazil, the beating heart that is its music, they set out to find the musicians who would fit best with their concept. Landing in Rio in 2013 a series of coincidences led to them being introduced to their idols Marcos Valle and Roberto Menescal, who both agreed to come on board. The Berman Brothers also wanted to find some of the musicians who recorded with one of Brazil’s most influential composers Tom Jobim. “Fifty years after Jobim made the music that really defines bossa nova, we found that many of his sidemen were still active, including Paulo Braga of Jobim’s famed rhythm section. It was magic; everything just fell into place.”
There's no question that the original of ‘Lovely Day’ is up there as one of the most feel-good, spirit-lifting anthems of all time. Here the brothers, with the help of a whole host of Brazil’s finest musicians, rework Bill’s soul-fuelled groove into a bossa nova slice of sunshine. With the blessing of Bill and Sony, they were given access to the original multitracks so they could incorporate Bill’s vocals perfectly into the new arrangement.
Joy-injected horns and bouncing double bass blend with the smile-inducing samba flavour of Pretinho da Serrinha’s cavaquinho playing. Tying it all together Torcuato Marinao who worked with the likes of Gal Costa, Gilberto Gil and Caetano Veloso, completes the line-up as arranger of the songs.
The perfect end-of-the-night track, mood lifter or soul warmer, remakes don’t get much better than this. More

Here, he leaves the needs of the dance floor behind in order to create a magical mystery tour de trance into his and our inner jungle.

New Age sounds meet new wave melodies, Grace Jones runs into the Dire Straits at Compass Point, while a Korg Mini Pops and a Roland CR78 make amends for Sly & Robbie's absence, Michael Mann pictures Joseph Conrad's 'Heart of Darkness', Robert Rauschenberg tries his luck at naturalism and an imagined Wally Badarou echoes through all of it.

To celebrate its 30th anniversary, Plastikman's redefining acid techno masterpiece, Sheet One, has been mastered from the original tapes and reissued on vinyl via Mute and NovaMute.
Released in 1993 on Mute's subsidiary label NovaMute, this record was the debut for Richie Hawtin's alias Plastikman. 30 years on Sheet One is a landmark album in the field of electronic music, it changed the shape of what the genre could be and became.
Introducing one of techno's most recognisable logos, the album achieved a degree of notoriety for its acid blotter-style perforated artwork. Musically it focuses on laser-precise minimalist rhythms to drive a series of echo-box acid lines that gradually acquire power over the course of lengthy album tracks, with frequent use of the Roland TB-303, which gained prominence in the electronic music world as a staple of Chicago's acid house scene. Hawtin once described Sheet One perfectly in an interview with MusicRadar, saying "...It's music for the end of the party as you're melting into the floor, which is exactly what the name Plastikman was made to represent."
This seminal album helped to establish the template for minimal techno, and is a must listen for lovers of electronic music.

(2023 Edition) Repressed for 2023, PT 2 of Onra's classic Chinoiseries series, which had him going off digging all over China and Vietnam on a quest for loops..'Same Same but Different', the familiar phrase heard throughout south east Asia, a perfect description to characterize Onra’s latest project, a follow up to his 2007 LP - Chinoiseries. So almost five years later, here we go back on the trail of another Asian beat journey with 32 Hip-Hop instrumentals inspired by Chinese and Vietnamese music. A lot has happened in between: The Big Payback with Byron the Aquarius, a beats LP “1.0.8” plus 2010’s acclaimed boogie tinged hip hop LP “Long Distance” while along the way he’s revisited South East Asia on a few occasions adding to his Asian record stack on each occasion. The exotic, mysterious pop and folk Chinese records of the 60s and 70s with their epic operatic and orchestral feel and sealed from the Western counter culture rumblings of the time, not to mention alive with vintage vinyl hiss and crackle, may not seem the easiest source material to work with but after hermetically sealing himself in his Parisian beat cave Onra has come with a more than worthy return for all the time and money spent in the vinyl basements and backrooms of the Far East. There's ample variation but a coherent whole, from the more electronic feel of "A New Dynasty" and "All Night", to the soundtrack vibe of "Mai's Theme" and "Fight Or Die" and the straight beat sound of "No Matter What" and "Remember The Name" and he's even found some breaks! Inspired by the idea of the LP as a sequence of film scenes this intense burst of beats and distinct vibes form an accomplished rounded full length.
