Monocode seeks the root code of techno with the release of the EP Solitude by Kaiser.
Two original tracks hit the ground running to the beat of a mechanical war drum, aggressive and determined: today's Spartans charging into the night. The title track "Solitude" storms into a dark basement of flashing strobes and lasers. "Another Platform" is a cavalry charge at full gallop. The smooth roll of the beat maintains the pressure as you put miles onto your sneakers against the rave's concrete floor.
Two remixes continue the charge at their own pace. The first is a bouncier beat stripped of its heavy bass, punctuated by cymbals and classic hand claps to lighten the mood. The last track on the EP might at first seem like you could catch your breath, but it's only swinging around to flank the beat from a more angular direction. More

Caribbean-Belgian composer, producer and musician Nala Sinephro announces her debut album Space 1.8 with lead track “Space 3”. Space 1.8 will be released on 3rd September via Warp Records.

The instrumental “Space 3” is a short clip from a 3 hour improvised session with drummer Eddie Hick (Sons of Kemet) and producer/multi-instrumentalist Dwayne Kilvington on synths bass (Wonky Logic, Steam Down) culminating in a synth driven, particle-splitting, rapture. Speaking about the track, Sinephro explains: “We recorded it in the start of spring, it was a magical day. The day after recording I collaged the drums, added fifteen synths, produced and mixed it at home and it was all done.”

Sinephro’s music fuses meditative sounds, jazz sensibilities, folk and field recordings. Her musical practice is rooted in the study of frequency and geometry and guided by the premise that sound moves matter. Her debut album Space 1.8 takes shape as a metaphysical structure, where each curative space is a womb-like cocoon created by Sinephro in service of relief and affirmative, ecstatic freedom. Space 1.8 was composed, produced, performed, engineered, recorded, mixed by Sinephro at age 22. On the album, she plays modular synths and pedal harp alongside her friends James Mollison, Shirley Tetteh, Nubya Garcia, Eddie Hick, Dwayne Kilvington, Jake Long, Lyle Barton, Rudi Creswick and more.

Following electrifying live performances across the London scene, word of Nala Sinephro’s playing quickly spread throughout the UK jazz scene, consequently landing her performances as part of the celebrated jazz night Steam Down, alongside playing with and supporting the likes of Demae, Eun, Coby Sey, Rosie Turton, Robert Ames, London Contemporary Orchestra, Touching Bass, Spitfire Audio, Nadeem Din-Gabisi. She was touted as one of The Guardian’s artists to watch in 2020, has garnered support from the likes of Gilles Peterson; and is a resident DJ on NTS sharing monthly selections of celestial sounds. In 2021, she joined the innovative Warp Records roster where she continues to weave her unique sound world.

Thankfully, Richard D. James has decided to finally release at least some of the output that he's been banging on about since mid-2000s. In a number of interviews, the might Aphex Twin hinted that he has vast artilleries of tracks stacked up and unreleased, probably more on purpose than out of laziness...or maybe not. What we do know is that AFX is reborn after the string of acid 12"s released about 10 years ago on Rephlex, that saw the alias become one of the most popular of James' alter egos. Orphaned Deejay Selek is a collection of tunes that contain all of the Twin's magic and unpredictably, but that also cut straight to the point and head to the middle of the dance floor. This is banging brain dynamite coated in the man's iconic style and flair. Welcome back AFX, and many hats off to Warp for making it happen. More

Minimal don Kepler strikes a balance between dancefloor utility and introspection on his latest record, and debut for X-Kalay. Big house and techno incursions straight out of Yorkshire – Leeds, to be precise. It’s a strong testament to the region’s long standing reputation as a hotbed for late-night minimalism.

Subtle flourishes and details stand out across all four tracks. Uncovering relics from ancient futures, ‘Lowlife’ stimulates the pineal gland with a mescaline-strength take on classic ‘90s tech house. While it dials the trippier elements down just a tad, ‘Control’, like its predecessor, recalls golden era Wiggle or Asad Rizvi under his Silverlining moniker.

No half measures on the next one. Bringing heft in spades, ‘Stranded’ comes hurtling in with swinging, jacking 4 AM NRG. It’s some serious gear, which makes the EP closer such an unexpected left-turn. ‘Need’ offers proper heads-down introspection, complete with widescreen, nebulous chords that ripple out into the vastness of space. Armando Gallop, the legendary Chicago producer & DJ whose career was tragically cut short by his death in 1996 left behind a legendary reputation as one of the windy city's finest. Having released on seminal labels such as; Trax, Musique, Westbrook and his own Warehouse imprint, Armando brought his own rough hewn brand of machine Funk and acid to the table and the dance music world has been much better off for it since. "The New World Order Level 3" is a collection of Armando's tracks running through various styles and sounds; Acid, Disco infected bangers, crazy Chi-town jack tracks and much more. This collection is a great overview of some of Armando's lesser known tracks and has always been a tough one to track down, it also features the storming "Pleasuredome" that was recently comped on Nina Kraviz' stellar DJ Kicks mix among a clutch of other lesser known gems. An essential addition to any Chicago lovers record collection, essential original House music! Re-mastered, re-pressed and re-released in conjunction with the official license and rights holders for 2015.
