Includes the Timeless early Hit "Bolivia" and Classic "Roger" which was covered by MGMT.
In the beginning Laid Back studio was a 4 track studio. Many of the songs from the 1st album were recorded on 4 track, also Bolivia. However, in the process we upgraded to 8 track and re-recorded Bolivia, the version on the album. Listening back to the 4 track version, it has got the groove that we lost on the 8 track version. We were then going for the best sound. We have learned a lot. All our big hits are first takes. That's where the magic is. Much time and efforts spend, to restore the 4 track version, without changing or adding anything. Just editing and improvement of sound. Thanks to engineer Bjørn Winnem. Included as bonus track on the remastered album. Enjoy

“We feel like we are meant to make music. And when we play music, it feels like we’re flying,” says John Guldberg, reflecting on the album’s title and spirit.
Long known for their unhurried approach to releasing music, Laid Back now find themselves in unfamiliar territory. Guldberg describes a surge in creativity that has
turned their process on its head.
“It’s kind of funny — Laid Back has always taken its time making records. We’ve been behind schedule for most of our career. Now it’s the opposite:
I’m actually starting to worry about whether I’ll have time to release everything I’ve got in me,” he says.
Their current workflow reflects this momentum. Guldberg develops initial ideas,which he shares with Tim Stahl, who then brings them to life with vocals and instrumentation.
“When he sends me something and I start singing and playing on it, that’s when it really becomes Laid Back,” says Stahl.
The duo’s creative output has accelerated to such an extent that even ahead of the release of Born to Fly, they already have enough material prepared for more than a double album for their next project.
“It’s about making the most of the time you have left. I used to feel there was plenty of time and no need to rush. Now time feels much more valuable,” Guldberg adds
.
Alongside their creative resurgence, Laid Back are also seeing a shift in their audience demographics. Streaming data and live performances indicate a growing younger fanbase — a development that has taken the duo by surprise.
“I’m really looking forward to getting back out on stage. We still have the urge to perform, and we love making people happy. That’s what our music is for,” says Stahl.
Born to Fly is set for release across CD, vinyl, and digital formats. Laid Back will also perform in selected cities across Europe later this year 2026.

Earlier this year, Danish electronic pioneers Laid Back released 'Uptimistic Music Vol 1.', their first studio album since 2004. The duo's long-awaited comeback was followed by critical acclaim and a series of live performances.
While playing festivals in Ibiza, Georgia, Denmark and the Faroe Islands last summer, John Guldberg and Tim Stahl took the time to put the finishing touches on their upcoming release: 'Uptimistic Music,' a double album featuring Vol.1 and a second record of unreleased material.
'Brother', the first single out of the double album, was released on Monday 23 September. "The track originates from the mid-eighties and it talks about the brotherly feeling in us," explained Stahl. "Its lyrics are even more relevant today: 'Brother, time is running out.' We are well-aware of the fact that we are some old music industry geezers," said Guldberg jokingly. "Uptimistic Music is a combination of some old songs we had lying around - that are still alive and kicking! - and new songs we composed since our last album 'Happy Dreamer.' Anything less than a double album wouldn't have been enough! The positive and timeless message that pervades our music is deeply-rooted in the way we think and express ourselves. A song should be judged on its longevity rather than its novelty," agreed the two musicians, who have been friends for over 40 years.
'Uptimistic Music' will be released digitally on 14 October and physically in early November. A few days after the album release, the band will embark on an extensive Danish tour that will kick off in Viborg and will include dates in Copenhagen, Aarhus, Odense, Vejle and Randers. Earlier this year, Danish electronic pioneers Laid Back released 'Uptimistic Music Vol 1.', their first studio album since 2004. The duo's long-awaited comeback was followed by critical acclaim and a series of live performances. While playing festivals in Ibiza, Georgia, Denmark and the Faroe Islands last summer, John Guldberg and Tim Stahl took the time to put the finishing touches on their upcoming release: 'Uptimistic Music,' a double album featuring Vol.1 and a second record of unreleased material. 'Brother', the first single out of the double album, was released on Monday 23 September. "The track originates from the mid-eighties and it talks about the brotherly feeling in us," explained Stahl. "Its lyrics are even more relevant today: 'Brother, time is running out.' We are well-aware of the fact that we are some old music industry geezers," said Guldberg jokingly. "Uptimistic Music is a combination of some old songs we had lying around - that are still alive and kicking! - and new songs we composed since our last album 'Happy Dreamer.' Anything less than a double album wouldn't have been enough! The positive and timeless message that pervades our music is deeply-rooted in the way we think and express ourselves. A song should be judged on its longevity rather than its novelty," agreed the two musicians, who have been friends for over 40 years. 'Uptimistic Music' will be released physically in early November.

These tracks were recorded when the term chill-out music was coming into being. Our record company back then thought the music too different from our well-known style, but we found it perfect for relaxing and painting. Actually we had begun painting pictures as a part of making music. But also as an excuse to get away from a music business giving us a hard time. We found this music to be healing us and giving us pleasure. Even though we got quite a positive feedback when it was the soundtrack for our painting exhibition at Galleri Projekt, Copenhagen 2001, these tracks went back on the shelf. At the time, Laid Back was working on the album "Happy Dreamer", where "Slow Friday" and "Blue Lagoon" appears in different versions.

“It’s kind of funny — Laid Back has always taken its time making records. We’ve been behind schedule for most of our career. Now it’s the opposite:
I’m actually starting to worry about whether I’ll have time to release everything I’ve got in me,” he says.
Their current workflow reflects this momentum. Guldberg develops initial ideas,which he shares with Tim Stahl, who then brings them to life with vocals and instrumentation.
“When he sends me something and I start singing and playing on it, that’s when it really becomes Laid Back,” says Stahl.
The duo’s creative output has accelerated to such an extent that even ahead of the release of Born to Fly, they already have enough material prepared for more than a double album for their next project.
“It’s about making the most of the time you have left. I used to feel there was plenty of time and no need to rush. Now time feels much more valuable,” Guldberg adds
.
Alongside their creative resurgence, Laid Back are also seeing a shift in their audience demographics. Streaming data and live performances indicate a growing younger fanbase — a development that has taken the duo by surprise.
“I’m really looking forward to getting back out on stage. We still have the urge to perform, and we love making people happy. That’s what our music is for,” says Stahl.
Born to Fly is set for release across CD, vinyl, and digital formats. Laid Back will also perform in selected cities across Europe later this year 2026.
“We hope people can hear that we’ve grown — and that it still makes sense for us to make new music,” says Guldberg.

Earlier this year, Danish electronic pioneers Laid Back released 'Uptimistic Music Vol 1.', their first studio album since 2004. The duo's long-awaited comeback was followed by critical acclaim and a series of live performances.
While playing festivals in Ibiza, Georgia, Denmark and the Faroe Islands last summer, John Guldberg and Tim Stahl took the time to put the finishing touches on their upcoming release: 'Uptimistic Music,' a double album featuring Vol.1 and a second record of unreleased material.
'Brother', the first single out of the double album, was released on Monday 23 September. "The track originates from the mid-eighties and it talks about the brotherly feeling in us," explained Stahl. "Its lyrics are even more relevant today: 'Brother, time is running out.' We are well-aware of the fact that we are some old music industry geezers," said Guldberg jokingly. "Uptimistic Music is a combination of some old songs we had lying around - that are still alive and kicking! - and new songs we composed since our last album 'Happy Dreamer.' Anything less than a double album wouldn't have been enough! The positive and timeless message that pervades our music is deeply-rooted in the way we think and express ourselves. A song should be judged on its longevity rather than its novelty," agreed the two musicians, who have been friends for over 40 years.
'Uptimistic Music' will be released digitally on 14 October and physically in early November. A few days after the album release, the band will embark on an extensive Danish tour that will kick off in Viborg and will include dates in Copenhagen, Aarhus, Odense, Vejle and Randers. Earlier this year, Danish electronic pioneers Laid Back released 'Uptimistic Music Vol 1.', their first studio album since 2004. The duo's long-awaited comeback was followed by critical acclaim and a series of live performances. While playing festivals in Ibiza, Georgia, Denmark and the Faroe Islands last summer, John Guldberg and Tim Stahl took the time to put the finishing touches on their upcoming release: 'Uptimistic Music,' a double album featuring Vol.1 and a second record of unreleased material. 'Brother', the first single out of the double album, was released on Monday 23 September. "The track originates from the mid-eighties and it talks about the brotherly feeling in us," explained Stahl. "Its lyrics are even more relevant today: 'Brother, time is running out.' We are well-aware of the fact that we are some old music industry geezers," said Guldberg jokingly. "Uptimistic Music is a combination of some old songs we had lying around - that are still alive and kicking! - and new songs we composed since our last album 'Happy Dreamer.' Anything less than a double album wouldn't have been enough! The positive and timeless message that pervades our music is deeply-rooted in the way we think and express ourselves. A song should be judged on its longevity rather than its novelty," agreed the two musicians, who have been friends for over 40 years. 'Uptimistic Music' will be released physically in early November.

These tracks were recorded when the term chill-out music was coming into being. Our record company back then thought the music too different from our well-known style, but we found it perfect for relaxing and painting. Actually we had begun painting pictures as a part of making music. But also as an excuse to get away from a music business giving us a hard time. We found this music to be healing us and giving us pleasure. Even though we got quite a positive feedback when it was the soundtrack for our painting exhibition at Galleri Projekt, Copenhagen 2001, these tracks went back on the shelf. At the time, Laid Back was working on the album "Happy Dreamer", where "Slow Friday" and "Blue Lagoon" appears in different versions.
Recently we listened to the music again, and, like good wine, we believe it has only got better from being stored on a shelf for 14 years before being released. We hope that you will enjoy listening to it.

For a short period in 1981 and with brand-new equipment such as Roland 808, SH 101, GR 500, we made some 8-track "just for fun" jam tapes. Mainly just to experiment for our own pleasure. From those sessions, only "White Horse" made it to a final treatment. The rest of the material was left behind, as our record company at the time found it too "different". After "White Horse" being a track indeed defining our sound, we thought it would be interesting to dig out left-overs to fulfill a documentation of that period - crucial for us at the time. We were still innocent

Finally we made a space mix, mainly for our own pleasure and for those who like to get out there and more into it. Danish duo Laid Back made a most surprising comeback to the clubs in 2010 with "Cocaine cool". Not that they had ever been really forgotten: Their electro pop classic "white horse" remained a sure shot in clubs for the thirty years after it's release 30 years back and a constant inspiration to boatload of diverse artists from techno to hip-hop. "cocaine cool" was recorded at the same session but the ironic vocals ridiculing label executives blowing up their frail ego with the chemical substance were deemed to risquee at that time, so the recording collected dust in some box until last year. Bostons "Soul Clap" another duo hailed as one of the hotest things in clubland known for their eclectic funk-rooted taste. They opt for a cool sparser arrangement leaving out the "white horse"-like chords. A loose, dry electro funk beat, hpynotic one-note synth, few dub effects and additional vocoder vocals do the trick bravorously. Besides an instrumental version there's also a harder jacking dub take sounding like early chicago house edits. And while the boys are add it they also re-edited another huge one from Laid Back: "baker man" that managed the unlikely balancing act of not only hitting it bigtime in the charts but also in the emerging balearic scene. this 12" is cool in every which way!

Few groups can match the continuity in career Laid Back can boast about, now more than 30 years after their debut.The new release is a controversial track recorded at the same session that yielded 'White Horse', but censored by their record company at the time. 'Cocaine Cool' has been resurrected A.D. 2010 and features a graphic animation video clip eminently produced by Laid Back themselves. "Way back in 1981, on the same night the 'White Horse' groove was born and jammed onto an 8-track tape recorder, we also did some other recordings. They were never completed and have stayed on the shelf ever since. Recently, in the process of transferring old analog master tapes to digital, we came across those vetust 8-track tapes, and when listening again, we found the unused material quite up-to-date. One of the unfinished grooves we consider musically being a brother to 'White Horse' has now been completed. The lyrics for this track, written by Arthur Stander, go back to the same period of time when during a trip to Los Angeles trying to shop some songs, the coolness of the A/R guys there gave us the inspiration!" Xerrox Vol. 1 is the third studio album by German electronic artist Alva Noto. It was released in 2007 as part of the ongoing Xerrox pentalogy, based on the concept of digital replication of source material.
Using the process of copying as a basis, the Xerrox series deals with the manipulation of data through endless reproduction. Due to the inherent fallacy of making copies from other copies, everyday sounds become so altered that they are hardly associated with their source material. As a result, entirely new sounds are created: copies of originals become originals themselves.
Together with Christoph Brünggel, Nicolai designed a "sample transformer" that takes audio fragments and manipulates them beyond recognition. In this process of taking something familiar and defamiliarizing it, samples from obvious sources-advertising jingles, airport tones, telephone hold music, and film soundtracks-were used and altered, resulting in sounds totally unlike their original source. The result is a series of haunting, intricately realised pieces that recontextualise Nicolai's "glitches and bass" sound into extended, cinematic, organic, and almost orchestral works.
Xerrox Vol. 1 was followed by Xerrox Vol. 2 (2009), Xerrox Vol. 3 (2015), Xerrox Vol. 4 (2020), Xerrox Vol. 5 (2024). This remastered version will be reissued on NOTON in 2026

Xerrox Vol. 1 is the third studio album by German electronic artist Alva Noto. It was released in 2007 as part of the ongoing Xerrox pentalogy, based on the concept of digital replication of source material.
Using the process of copying as a basis, the Xerrox series deals with the manipulation of data through endless reproduction. Due to the inherent fallacy of making copies from other copies, everyday sounds become so altered that they are hardly associated with their source material. As a result, entirely new sounds are created: copies of originals become originals themselves.
Together with Christoph Brünggel, Nicolai designed a "sample transformer" that takes audio fragments and manipulates them beyond recognition. In this process of taking something familiar and defamiliarizing it, samples from obvious sources-advertising jingles, airport tones, telephone hold music, and film soundtracks-were used and altered, resulting in sounds totally unlike their original source. The result is a series of haunting, intricately realised pieces that recontextualise Nicolai's "glitches and bass" sound into extended, cinematic, organic, and almost orchestral works.
Xerrox Vol. 1 was followed by Xerrox Vol. 2 (2009), Xerrox Vol. 3 (2015), Xerrox Vol. 4 (2020), Xerrox Vol. 5 (2024). This remastered version will be reissued on NOTON in 2026

DJ Quik is a giant of West Coast hip-hop. With 1995’s Safe + Sound, he scaled new levels of musical magnificence with his signature new age P-Funk/laconic G-Funk. A quintessential, sun-scorched LA album, this is pretty much essential. Typical for mid-90s albums the original vinyl copies are now rare so here’s the Be With re-issue, complete with “Tanqueray”, the hidden track from the original CD release.
A preternaturally gifted producer/rapper, DJ Quik has produced scores of LA gangsta rap classics. He’s released platinum and gold records of his own, as well as helped craft them for the likes of Tupac, Snoop Dogg, and Dr Dre. Quik has always been quirkier and more interesting than his gangsta rap peers, both musically and lyrically. An old-school funk producer at heart, he’s also incredibly nice on the mic. His raps often deal in boasts, jokes and good times but also cover his beefs, his trials and his trauma. Partying and pain, all mixed up. DJing and producing hype beat tapes from age 14, Quik’s tracks blended the languid funk and rubbery synths of Zapp and George Clinton with a gangsta aesthetic, creating a more danceable foil to Compton’s more typical nihilistic hedonism. Ultimately, his records sound custom engineered to drift out over sun-soaked barbecues.
By the time of his third album DJ Quik was a household name on the West Coast - California’s premier rapper/producer not named Andre Young. Released on Profile in 1995, Safe + Sound was certified gold. Less reliant on samples and more focused on live instruments, it elevated him from producer to fully-fledged composer. This sound — the quick, winding basslines, tinny high hats, smooth instrumental solos, soulful pipes, and Roger Troutman’s talkbox — defined him. This is an album of full-blown masterpieces. Rich soundscapes and masterfully arranged orchestrations with dense layers of sounds, intricate rhythms, and well-balanced songwriting.
The first track proper, “Get At Me” samples Cameo whilst Quik takes aim at the Judases in his life, the horn-laced chorus providing a triumphant feel. On the horizontal “Diggin’ U Out”, the soulful electric piano of Warryn Campbell lays a relaxed groove for Quik to talk over about one of his favourite topics: sex. Title track “Safe + Sound” chronicles Quik’s formative years over a slick instrumental. The moody bass locks a laidback infectious groove, the hook is catchy and Quik’s delivery is in fine form. On the uber-chilled “Somethin’ 4 Tha Mood”, Quik cooks up a breezy, feel good track of sparkly keyboards, syncopated claps, shuffling hi-hats, woozy synths and a floating two-minute flute solo courtesy of Robert “Fonksta” Bacon. Analysing the highs and lows of an average day in the hood, it echoes Cube’s “It Was a Good Day”.
“It’z Your Fantasy” is a silky smooth soundtrack to Quik’s detailed retelling of a sexcapade with a young lady and whilst “Tha Ho In You” is musically perfect for that midsummer family BBQ, its lyrical content is unsurprisingly decidedly less family-friendly. A real highlight, the infamous “Dollaz + Sense” is one of the most ruthless diss tracks of all time. The brutal lyrics ride a laidback West Coast beat, flipping a sample from Young & Company’s “I Like (What You’re Doing To Me)” as Quik fires lyrical shots at his arch Compton nemesis, MC Eiht. On the loping, hazy “Let You Havit”, Quik is again in gangsta mode, with more bars of barbs aimed at Eiht, rhyming over sun-kissed synthy-rollerskate funk.
Some of the finest tracks on Safe + Sound are those designed to de-stress. The evocative “Summer Breeze” is a classic warm-weather jam, anchored by a twangy funk guitar, breezy string arrangement, and a soulful hook delivered by Dionne Knighton. Quik’s nostalgic lyrics are not far from DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince’s “Summertime”, reminiscing over barbecues at the park, young love, and the brevity of halcyon youth. The relaxed and jazzy “Quik’s Groove III” is another highlight, as bass, guitar, piano and flute combine to create a smooth, soulful instrumental.
The swaggering “Shack Up”-sampling “Sucka Free” features a cameo from Playa Hamm, all funky braggadocio and over much too quikly (pun thoroughly intended). The jazz-flavoured “Keep Tha ‘P’ In It”, again featuring Playa Hamm but this time extending the cameo invitations to Hi-C, 2nd II None and Kam, is pure laidback P-Funk. The deep bass and industrial drums make sure the groove hits hard.

Unusual for the time, Safe + Sound was originally pressed as a double, so all that was missing was the CD’s hidden bonus track “Tanqueray”, so we’ve fixed that. The original vinyl release never got a picture sleeve, so we’ve recreated the original’s promo-style silver-sticker and plain black jacket. A subtle cover for a wonderfully unsubtle record.

WRWTFWW Records is extremely happy to present the official reissue of Safari's self-titled album from 1984. The Japanese jazz-fusion super gem is available now as a limited-edition transparent vinyl LP housed in a heavyweight sleeve with obi.
Originally released on fabled label VAP, Safari is a one-of-a-kind city pop-adjacent summer blend of AOR, smooth jazz, and sun-drenched boogie. The sole album from the all-star outfit was the brainchild of keyboardist Toshiyuki Daitoku and Japan-based Californian jazz-funk-latin-fusion bassist Gregg Lee. Together with a large team of experienced musicians, they created a lush, immaculately-arranged 8-track cruise filled with poolside grooves, breezy rhythms, and feel-good vocal harmonies.
Safari features the well-known title track which acted as the theme song for an 80s sports program on Fuji Television, the night-swim chill music tune "All Right in The Night", and the fan-favorite buoyant vacation hit "The Morning After".
The official reissue is fully licensed and sourced from the original masters, with an audiophile cut by Sidney Meyer at Emil Berliner Studios, ensuring the warm, pristine sound this lost treasure deserves.
Safari is the second release from WRWTFWW's City Pop Series, following Momoko Kikuchi's beach classic Ocean Side, also available on transparent vinyl LP. The series, complete with a visual identity designed by Lopetz/Büro Destruct, also comes with a limited merch capsule, and more sun-soaked gems lined up for the future.

WRWTFWW Records is extremely happy to present the official reissue of Safari's self-titled album from 1984. The Japanese jazz-fusion super gem is available now as a limited-edition transparent vinyl LP housed in a heavyweight sleeve with obi.
Originally released on fabled label VAP, Safari is a one-of-a-kind city pop-adjacent summer blend of AOR, smooth jazz, and sun-drenched boogie. The sole album from the all-star outfit was the brainchild of keyboardist Toshiyuki Daitoku and Japan-based Californian jazz-funk-latin-fusion bassist Gregg Lee. Together with a large team of experienced musicians, they created a lush, immaculately-arranged 8-track cruise filled with poolside grooves, breezy rhythms, and feel-good vocal harmonies.
Safari features the well-known title track which acted as the theme song for an 80s sports program on Fuji Television, the night-swim chill music tune "All Right in The Night", and the fan-favorite buoyant vacation hit "The Morning After".
The official reissue is fully licensed and sourced from the original masters, with an audiophile cut by Sidney Meyer at Emil Berliner Studios, ensuring the warm, pristine sound this lost treasure deserves.
Safari is the second release from WRWTFWW's City Pop Series, following Momoko Kikuchi's beach classic Ocean Side, also available on transparent vinyl LP. The series, complete with a visual identity designed by Lopetz/Büro Destruct, also comes with a limited merch capsule, and more sun-soaked gems lined up for the future.

In the late 70s/early 80s, songwriter Wim van der Stelt composed an instrumental track that he later
recorded during leftover studio time after a long recording session as a studio musician. A special and
strange piece of music that is difficult to name precisely in terms of style. You could think of it as a
piece of soundtrack or library music, but it's not quite that either. It's just a beautifully written tune
that hooks you as a listener. The melody sticks with – and grows on – you. He eventually sold the
song for a flat fee and lost track of what had happened with it. In 1982 it was released as a 7” single
on the Dutch record label "Friends Records". For the A-side, the instrumental version was
supplemented with English/French vocals and this version was entitled ‘Qui, Mon Amour’. Van der
Stelt knew nothing about it until recently, and he has no idea who the singer is, who produced the
vocal version or why the name Anoux was used. His original first recorded instrumental ended up on
the B-side of this single and was titled 'The Unknown Song'. After the record was released, it failed to
chart and was quickly forgotten. Until now! Regrooved is re-releasing the 7” with the original
instrumental version as the a-side and the vocal on the back. Hopefully this great song with its
melancholy melody now reaches the audience it deserves.

Munich's machine enthusiasts 9ms return to Squama with their third album 'Lunch'.
More heterogenic than its predecessors, the album incorporates Dub-infused IDM, cinematic slow jams and off-kilter drum workouts giving the daring DJ plenty of material to treat dancefloors and listening rooms alike.
On their previous albums Pleats (2021) and II (2023) Florian König and Simon Popp mapped out the musical symbiosis between man and machine, using motion sensors to translate their bodies' movement while playing drums into sound. On Lunch the conceptual centerpiece is the pendulum. Neither man, nor machine, its steady movement is converted into analog voltage with what's called a gyroscope, allowing it to trigger and control any parameter in the duo's setup.
The album was conceived over the course of a year in weekly morning sessions that had to be wrapped up by lunch due to family obligations. The temporal limits, as paradoxically is often the case, turned out to be quite liberating and resulted in a more playful and fearless process.
"We worked pretty efficiently, but since there was no deadline for the album to be finished, the whole process felt very light". The duo also freed themselves from the limitations of having a recording setup that's reproducible for touring.
"We didn't think about the live aspect at all this time." So for every session they would choose from a wide array of instruments and machines, an abundance that has inspired the record's artwork, overflowing with words from the list of gear used on the record.
Sonically, 9ms keep on forging their own niche with thick, compressed drums set against wide stereo-processed soundscapes and a genuine curiosity that's pleasantly contagious.

Munich's machine enthusiasts 9ms return to Squama with their third album 'Lunch'.
More heterogenic than its predecessors, the album incorporates Dub-infused IDM, cinematic slow jams and off-kilter drum workouts giving the daring DJ plenty of material to treat dancefloors and listening rooms alike.
On their previous albums Pleats (2021) and II (2023) Florian König and Simon Popp mapped out the musical symbiosis between man and machine, using motion sensors to translate their bodies' movement while playing drums into sound. On Lunch the conceptual centerpiece is the pendulum. Neither man, nor machine, its steady movement is converted into analog voltage with what's called a gyroscope, allowing it to trigger and control any parameter in the duo's setup.
The album was conceived over the course of a year in weekly morning sessions that had to be wrapped up by lunch due to family obligations. The temporal limits, as paradoxically is often the case, turned out to be quite liberating and resulted in a more playful and fearless process.
"We worked pretty efficiently, but since there was no deadline for the album to be finished, the whole process felt very light". The duo also freed themselves from the limitations of having a recording setup that's reproducible for touring.
"We didn't think about the live aspect at all this time." So for every session they would choose from a wide array of instruments and machines, an abundance that has inspired the record's artwork, overflowing with words from the list of gear used on the record.
Sonically, 9ms keep on forging their own niche with thick, compressed drums set against wide stereo-processed soundscapes and a genuine curiosity that's pleasantly contagious.

We Release Jazz (WRWTFWW Records' new sister-label) is proud to present its first release, the official reissue of Ryo Fukui's highly sought-after masterpiece Scenery (1976), sourced from the original masters and available on limited edition 180g vinyl mastered at half speed for audiophile sound and on digipack CD.
Unquestionably one of the most important Japanese jazz albums ever recorded, Scenery reveals Ryo Fukui as a miraculously brilliant self-taught pianist fusing modal, bop, and cool jazz influences for a very personal, dexterous and game-changing take on classic standards made famous by Bing Crosby and John Coltrane among others. From "It Could Happen To You" and its serene and calm intro which magically flows into a jubilant and upbeat piece, to the out-of-this-world piano solo of "Early Summer", or the incredible teamwork of "Autumn Leaves" where Fukui leads Satoshi Denpo (bass) and Yoshinori Fukui (drums) into groove heaven, every single note on the album oozes precision, confidence and flair and every single section slides seamlessly into one another, creating a supreme and elegant blend of jazz. Often compared to McCoy Tyner or Bill Evans, Ryo Fukui was a genius in his own right, a true master of his craft whose perfectionism gave birth to some of the greatest music ever recorded. Scenery is his magnum opus and an absolute must-have.
The Hokkaido wizard-pianist followed Scenery with the soulful gem Mellow Dream (also available on We Release Jazz) in 1977. He then focused on improving his live skills, often performing at Sapporo's Slowboat Jazz Club (which he co-founded with his wife Yasuko Fukui) and releasing 2 live albums. Ryo Fukui sadly passed away in March 2016, leaving behind a legacy of works that is sure to captivate jazz lovers for generations to come.

Metronomy release their third album, 'The English Riviera' on April 11th through Because Music. The follow up to 2008's critically acclaimed 'Nights Out', 'The English Riviera' is a sonic progression of epic proportions and affirms Metronomy front man and producer, Joseph Mount, as a rare British talent.
Since 'Nights Out', the band have swollen to a four piece with new members Anna Prior on drums, Gbenga Adelekan on bass, original member Oscar Cash on keys/sax, and Joe himself on vocals, keys and guitar. This expansion of personnel is reflective of a new record that is mapped by vast soundscapes, incredible depth and warmth, and big pop hooks
Part love letter to the area of Devon coast Mount grew up in and part concept album about his own semi-fictionalised vision of "The English Riviera", the tone for the album is set by the opening sounds of seagulls, distant waves and a Music Hall string quartet. However, any notion of whimsy is swiftly dispelled, as the seismic bass line of 'We Broke Free' shudders and ushers in waves of layered guitars and synths.
Having produced and remixed everyone from Roots Manuva to Kate Nash and the forthcoming album from Nicola Roberts, this is the first Metronomy album that Mount has taken out of his bedroom and recorded in a proper studio. The results are telling.
Characterised throughout with a sense of warmth and richness, 'The English Riviera' is in parts reminiscent of seminal 1970s West Coast studio albums from the likes of Fleetwood Mac and The Eagles, but due to Mount's studio wizardry, the record sounds vibrant and entirely of its time.
Few other albums released this year will so successfully transcend such a plethora of influences and ideas and form such a coherent body of work.
