Remastered by the Band from the Original 4 Track Audio Tapes.
Includes the Timeless early Hit "Bolivia" and Classic "Roger" which was covered by MGMT.
In the beginning Laid Back studio was a 4 track studio. Many of the songs from the 1st album were recorded on 4 track, also Bolivia. However, in the process we upgraded to 8 track and re-recorded Bolivia, the version on the album. Listening back to the 4 track version, it has got the groove that we lost on the 8 track version. We were then going for the best sound. We have learned a lot. All our big hits are first takes. That's where the magic is. Much time and efforts spend, to restore the 4 track version, without changing or adding anything. Just editing and improvement of sound. Thanks to engineer Bjørn Winnem. Included as bonus track on the remastered album. Enjoy

Earlier this year, Danish electronic pioneers Laid Back released 'Uptimistic Music Vol 1.', their first studio album since 2004. The duo's long-awaited comeback was followed by critical acclaim and a series of live performances.
While playing festivals in Ibiza, Georgia, Denmark and the Faroe Islands last summer, John Guldberg and Tim Stahl took the time to put the finishing touches on their upcoming release: 'Uptimistic Music,' a double album featuring Vol.1 and a second record of unreleased material.
'Brother', the first single out of the double album, was released on Monday 23 September. "The track originates from the mid-eighties and it talks about the brotherly feeling in us," explained Stahl. "Its lyrics are even more relevant today: 'Brother, time is running out.' We are well-aware of the fact that we are some old music industry geezers," said Guldberg jokingly. "Uptimistic Music is a combination of some old songs we had lying around - that are still alive and kicking! - and new songs we composed since our last album 'Happy Dreamer.' Anything less than a double album wouldn't have been enough! The positive and timeless message that pervades our music is deeply-rooted in the way we think and express ourselves. A song should be judged on its longevity rather than its novelty," agreed the two musicians, who have been friends for over 40 years.
'Uptimistic Music' will be released digitally on 14 October and physically in early November. A few days after the album release, the band will embark on an extensive Danish tour that will kick off in Viborg and will include dates in Copenhagen, Aarhus, Odense, Vejle and Randers. These tracks were recorded when the term chill-out music was coming into being. Our record company back then thought the music too different from our well-known style, but we found it perfect for relaxing and painting. Actually we had begun painting pictures as a part of making music. But also as an excuse to get away from a music business giving us a hard time. We found this music to be healing us and giving us pleasure. Even though we got quite a positive feedback when it was the soundtrack for our painting exhibition at Galleri Projekt, Copenhagen 2001, these tracks went back on the shelf. At the time, Laid Back was working on the album "Happy Dreamer", where "Slow Friday" and "Blue Lagoon" appears in different versions.
Recently we listened to the music again, and, like good wine, we believe it has only got better from being stored on a shelf for 14 years before being released. We hope that you will enjoy listening to it.

For a short period in 1981 and with brand-new equipment such as Roland 808, SH 101, GR 500, we made some 8-track "just for fun" jam tapes. Mainly just to experiment for our own pleasure. From those sessions, only "White Horse" made it to a final treatment. The rest of the material was left behind, as our record company at the time found it too "different". After "White Horse" being a track indeed defining our sound, we thought it would be interesting to dig out left-overs to fulfill a documentation of that period - crucial for us at the time. We were still innocent
newcomers, without actually knowing to be creating a new sound! Recently, that left-over material was transferred from analogue to digital and, to stay as true as possible to original intentions, we only added vocals, bass and drumbeats ahead of a final mix.

Remastered by the Band from the Original 4 Track Audio Tapes.
Includes the Timeless early Hit "Bolivia" and Classic "Roger" which was covered by MGMT.
In the beginning Laid Back studio was a 4 track studio. Many of the songs from the 1st album were recorded on 4 track, also Bolivia. However, in the process we upgraded to 8 track and re-recorded Bolivia, the version on the album. Listening back to the 4 track version, it has got the groove that we lost on the 8 track version. We were then going for the best sound. We have learned a lot. All our big hits are first takes. That's where the magic is. Much time and efforts spend, to restore the 4 track version, without changing or adding anything. Just editing and improvement of sound. Thanks to engineer Bjørn Winnem. Included as bonus track on the remastered album. Enjoy

Remastered by the Band from the Original 4 Track Audio Tapes.
Includes the Timeless early Hit "Bolivia" and Classic "Roger" which was covered by MGMT.
In the beginning Laid Back studio was a 4 track studio. Many of the songs from the 1st album were recorded on 4 track, also Bolivia. However, in the process we upgraded to 8 track and re-recorded Bolivia, the version on the album. Listening back to the 4 track version, it has got the groove that we lost on the 8 track version. We were then going for the best sound. We have learned a lot. All our big hits are first takes. That's where the magic is. Much time and efforts spend, to restore the 4 track version, without changing or adding anything. Just editing and improvement of sound. Thanks to engineer Bjørn Winnem. Included as bonus track on the remastered album. Enjoy

Earlier this year, Danish electronic pioneers Laid Back released 'Uptimistic Music Vol 1.', their first studio album since 2004. The duo's long-awaited comeback was followed by critical acclaim and a series of live performances.
While playing festivals in Ibiza, Georgia, Denmark and the Faroe Islands last summer, John Guldberg and Tim Stahl took the time to put the finishing touches on their upcoming release: 'Uptimistic Music,' a double album featuring Vol.1 and a second record of unreleased material.
'Brother', the first single out of the double album, was released on Monday 23 September. "The track originates from the mid-eighties and it talks about the brotherly feeling in us," explained Stahl. "Its lyrics are even more relevant today: 'Brother, time is running out.' We are well-aware of the fact that we are some old music industry geezers," said Guldberg jokingly. "Uptimistic Music is a combination of some old songs we had lying around - that are still alive and kicking! - and new songs we composed since our last album 'Happy Dreamer.' Anything less than a double album wouldn't have been enough! The positive and timeless message that pervades our music is deeply-rooted in the way we think and express ourselves. A song should be judged on its longevity rather than its novelty," agreed the two musicians, who have been friends for over 40 years.
'Uptimistic Music' will be released digitally on 14 October and physically in early November. A few days after the album release, the band will embark on an extensive Danish tour that will kick off in Viborg and will include dates in Copenhagen, Aarhus, Odense, Vejle and Randers. These tracks were recorded when the term chill-out music was coming into being. Our record company back then thought the music too different from our well-known style, but we found it perfect for relaxing and painting. Actually we had begun painting pictures as a part of making music. But also as an excuse to get away from a music business giving us a hard time. We found this music to be healing us and giving us pleasure. Even though we got quite a positive feedback when it was the soundtrack for our painting exhibition at Galleri Projekt, Copenhagen 2001, these tracks went back on the shelf. At the time, Laid Back was working on the album "Happy Dreamer", where "Slow Friday" and "Blue Lagoon" appears in different versions.
Recently we listened to the music again, and, like good wine, we believe it has only got better from being stored on a shelf for 14 years before being released. We hope that you will enjoy listening to it.

For a short period in 1981 and with brand-new equipment such as Roland 808, SH 101, GR 500, we made some 8-track "just for fun" jam tapes. Mainly just to experiment for our own pleasure. From those sessions, only "White Horse" made it to a final treatment. The rest of the material was left behind, as our record company at the time found it too "different". After "White Horse" being a track indeed defining our sound, we thought it would be interesting to dig out left-overs to fulfill a documentation of that period - crucial for us at the time. We were still innocent
newcomers, without actually knowing to be creating a new sound! Recently, that left-over material was transferred from analogue to digital and, to stay as true as possible to original intentions, we only added vocals, bass and drumbeats ahead of a final mix.

Also included is an ultra minimalistic version, mainly made on Ipad. Danish electronic musician and DJ Kasper Bjørke has done a really cool remix. Finally we made a space mix, mainly for our own pleasure and for those who like to get out there and more into it. Danish duo Laid Back made a most surprising comeback to the clubs in 2010 with "Cocaine cool". Not that they had ever been really forgotten: Their electro pop classic "white horse" remained a sure shot in clubs for the thirty years after it's release 30 years back and a constant inspiration to boatload of diverse artists from techno to hip-hop. "cocaine cool" was recorded at the same session but the ironic vocals ridiculing label executives blowing up their frail ego with the chemical substance were deemed to risquee at that time, so the recording collected dust in some box until last year. Bostons "Soul Clap" another duo hailed as one of the hotest things in clubland known for their eclectic funk-rooted taste. They opt for a cool sparser arrangement leaving out the "white horse"-like chords. A loose, dry electro funk beat, hpynotic one-note synth, few dub effects and additional vocoder vocals do the trick bravorously. Besides an instrumental version there's also a harder jacking dub take sounding like early chicago house edits. And while the boys are add it they also re-edited another huge one from Laid Back: "baker man" that managed the unlikely balancing act of not only hitting it bigtime in the charts but also in the emerging balearic scene. this 12" is cool in every which way!

The Sensational Comeback and follow up to "White Horse". Recorded in the Same Session, Remastered by the Band to full glory and released Worldwide Exclusively in a Cooperation by Laid Back and Yours Truly, Wordandsound. Few groups can match the continuity in career Laid Back can boast about, now more than 30 years after their debut.The new release is a controversial track recorded at the same session that yielded 'White Horse', but censored by their record company at the time. 'Cocaine Cool' has been resurrected A.D. 2010 and features a graphic animation video clip eminently produced by Laid Back themselves. "Way back in 1981, on the same night the 'White Horse' groove was born and jammed onto an 8-track tape recorder, we also did some other recordings. They were never completed and have stayed on the shelf ever since. Recently, in the process of transferring old analog master tapes to digital, we came across those vetust 8-track tapes, and when listening again, we found the unused material quite up-to-date. One of the unfinished grooves we consider musically being a brother to 'White Horse' has now been completed. The lyrics for this track, written by Arthur Stander, go back to the same period of time when during a trip to Los Angeles trying to shop some songs, the coolness of the A/R guys there gave us the inspiration!" Over the past decade, Chaos In The CBD, the brotherly production duo of Louis and Ben Helliker-Hales, have captivated global audiences with their spectral, jazz-inflected deep house sound. To celebrate the announcement, Chaos In The CBD have shared the atmospheric lead single ‘Love Language’, featuring fellow New Zealander Nathan Haines on Saxophone. It’s an undeniable standout moment on the album—moody, ethereal, and naturally soothing. Speaking on the track, Chaos In The CBD explains: “‘Love Language’ is a track that suits almost any setting, evoking the laid-back, easygoing rhythm of life in New Zealand. Perfect for a road trip to the beach or those magical moments at an after party when the sun reappears. Love Language feels like a reflection of the journey that brought it to life and we hope you enjoy it as much as we do.”
The 14 track LP marks a significant evolution in Chaos In The CBD’s artistic journey. Known for their signature sound epitomised by their breakout EP Midnight In Peckham on Rhythm Section, the duo’s debut album unites live instrumentation and vocal collaborations for the first time, fusing together key musical influences such as Ambient, Soulful house, R&B, Jazz & Balearic into a melting pot of an epic journey that will surely become a future classic. If Midnight In Peckham was the duo’s coming of age; then their debut album is Chaos In The CBD coming full circle. It features contributions from legendary figures such as Josh Milan of Blaze, Lee Pearson Jr., Stephanie Cooke and UK grime MC Novelist, among others.
Though they’ve been based in London for over a decade, Louis and Ben (aka Beans) have never stopped feeling at one with their homeland. A Deeper Life is nostalgic for their nature-filled youth, exploring the magical coastline and lush rainforest of New Zealand. “The title refers to our childhood, which was idyllic,” says Ben. “It was just the sun, the sand, the sea, waterfalls, birds and fish...” The result is an international dance sound that feels unmistakably like Chaos and ebbs and flows from the beach party to the club to the afterhours. “It’s laid-back but still driving at the same time; it’s club ready, but still deep,” Ben explains. It’s also distinctly Balearic: The brothers found a particular affinity with 90s Ibiza chillout music, being from such a “chill place” themselves. “In its own way, New Zealand is incredibly Balearic, but without the party side” says Ben.
The brothers hope that their debut evidences their deep appreciation of 90s house music, from David Morales’s Red Zone mixes and Kerri Chandler to DJ Sprinkles, Larry Heard and beyond. “We didn’t go to the school of hard knocks, we went to the school of Carl Cox,” they wrote in one of their typically hilarious posts on Instagram. But while they’ve built a meme-driven online personality for their social media accounts, their album shows a deeper side to them too. “We joke around but we want this album to be taken seriously,” says Louis. “It’s music from all around the globe, and there’s a deep meaning to how it flows and sticks together”.

Over the past decade, Chaos In The CBD, the brotherly production duo of Louis and Ben Helliker-Hales, have captivated global audiences with their spectral, jazz-inflected deep house sound. With over 100 million streams worldwide, the New Zealand-born, London-based artists are set to release their highly anticipated debut album, A Deeper Life on May 9, 2025 via the label head’s very own In Dust We Trust imprint.
To celebrate the announcement, Chaos In The CBD have shared the atmospheric lead single ‘Love Language’, featuring fellow New Zealander Nathan Haines on Saxophone. It’s an undeniable standout moment on the album—moody, ethereal, and naturally soothing. Speaking on the track, Chaos In The CBD explains: “‘Love Language’ is a track that suits almost any setting, evoking the laid-back, easygoing rhythm of life in New Zealand. Perfect for a road trip to the beach or those magical moments at an after party when the sun reappears. Love Language feels like a reflection of the journey that brought it to life and we hope you enjoy it as much as we do.”
The 14 track LP marks a significant evolution in Chaos In The CBD’s artistic journey. Known for their signature sound epitomised by their breakout EP Midnight In Peckham on Rhythm Section, the duo’s debut album unites live instrumentation and vocal collaborations for the first time, fusing together key musical influences such as Ambient, Soulful house, R&B, Jazz & Balearic into a melting pot of an epic journey that will surely become a future classic. If Midnight In Peckham was the duo’s coming of age; then their debut album is Chaos In The CBD coming full circle. It features contributions from legendary figures such as Josh Milan of Blaze, Lee Pearson Jr., Stephanie Cooke and UK grime MC Novelist, among others.
Though they’ve been based in London for over a decade, Louis and Ben (aka Beans) have never stopped feeling at one with their homeland. A Deeper Life is nostalgic for their nature-filled youth, exploring the magical coastline and lush rainforest of New Zealand. “The title refers to our childhood, which was idyllic,” says Ben. “It was just the sun, the sand, the sea, waterfalls, birds and fish...” The result is an international dance sound that feels unmistakably like Chaos and ebbs and flows from the beach party to the club to the afterhours. “It’s laid-back but still driving at the same time; it’s club ready, but still deep,” Ben explains. It’s also distinctly Balearic: The brothers found a particular affinity with 90s Ibiza chillout music, being from such a “chill place” themselves. “In its own way, New Zealand is incredibly Balearic, but without the party side” says Ben.

First up, Vagabundo Club Social takes 'Beso Loco' featuring Tomjake Sax and turns up the controls to maximum fun, the Colombians throwing in tons of groove and Afro -influenced percussion, before Monsieur Van Pratt and Guatemalan singer Teff Brolo. This all-original track is leaded by the powerful soulful vocals, accompanied by a groove-infused piano which keeps the beats nicely anchored, followed by the ever dependable Reece Johnson who closes off this side. Flip it over for Bernardo Mota & Boogietraxx and the euphoric 'Keep On Doing Your Thing' before Sartorial takes proceedings into slightly jazzier territory on B2 and B3.

Gerber has been a core part of the underground for years, headlining the world's most revered clubs and festivals, collaborating with P. Diddy, bringing all new party concepts to Ibiza, and serving up serene and synth heavy soundscapes that move people physically and emotionally on labels like Cocoon, Italians Do It Better and Rumors. This one kicks off with the lush deep house elegance of 'Leave It On' with its languid bass and live sounding drums. Swirling pads and atmospheric vocals bring a romantic feel to this late-night jam.
