Mexico's Lokier gears up for her first release with Lenske, "Back To Life EP".

Based in Berlin by way of her hometown Mexico, Lokier has firmly cemented her spot within the European underground scene with appearances at Berghain and Tresor, as well as renowned international venues and festivals Reaktor, Contact, Dimensions, CTM, Nuits Sonores & more. "Back To Life EP" marks Lokier's debut on Lenske, showcasing her ability to fuse the worlds of industrial, rave, techno and trance with an electrifying 3 tracker.

Opening the record is "Back To Life", a minimal techno highlight with deep, foreboding pads and wavering synths. Understated hi-hats and a determined kick drum match with galloping elements, making this opener a solid peak-time pursuit. Dynamic and energetic without being overstated, Lokier produces a seamless track that starts as a meek series of chords and ends in a ferocious triumph.

Far heavier and darker than the opener is "Dimension". This raucous cut bridges the gap between techno and electro, with acid dripped notes and keys that twinkle and echo menacingly. A heaving kick drum and baseline are determined to bring an ominous energy to the forefront while maintaining the fierceness of the initial elements. Without any respite, the track determinedly drives on and commands you to move right up until the final kick.

"Call Me" is the final journey on this record, utilising razor sharp synths and ridged hi-hats. A techno charger from the jump, it's the perfect mid set dynamo, bursting with energy and raw, unbridled power. A pummeling kick drum sets the pace with a moody baseline and crashing cymbals bringing a more rounded texture. Ethereal synth notes duet the deep, grungy synths that expertly balances the mood while alarm bells ring overhead. More

Her first full EP for the label, following the appearance of “Headless” on the limited edition Various Squirrels Volume Two, contains four tracks of enthrallingly unkempt body music & neo-goth techno depravity. The Artist & DJ currently based in Berlin is half of She Made Monster with Morgan Hammer, & her remix work appears on Throne of Blood, Ivan Smagghe’s Les Disques de la Mort & elsewhere. “Last One” is first, a gritty workout in horror rave, all overdriven drums, intricately programed to build alongside arpeggiated synth bass and slasher flick strings, at once classic and contemporary. “Not Always Works” is sleazier yet, featuring LOKIER’s distinctive dead-pan distorted vocals, heard recently on Krikor’s LP for L.I.E.S., put to great effect here atop an ear-worm synth riff and again expertly programed drums, never afraid to bleed into the red. Atonal, yet bizarrely melodic strings and pads drift confidently above. “Tmrrw” makes use of vocal samples over a pummeling industrial techno explosion… like a Nitzer Ebb cassette that’s been duplicated too many times, turned up way too loud, with an angry goth banshee queen telling it like it is through a broken fuzzbox. “What Is Truth” rounds things off in the murky dub/electro bog of your most lucid nightmares, the drums and synths awash in tape echo and reverb. LOKIER’s music sits perfectly within SQUIRRELS ON FILM's left of center techno punk aesthetic, albeit with clear intentions on the feral dystopian dance party happening near you. Hopping between genres whilst remaining resolutely coherent, the twelve-track double LP is a showcase of the Rat Life boss' many influences. From the driving, mesmeric techno of Music Is A Spiritual Thing to the sci-fi electro on Bouncing Bell and Love Warrior's downtempo, half-time shuffle, the collection of tracks is broad and varied yet simultaneously unified by belonging to the club. Whether it's warm-up material, peaktime rollers or afterhours sludge for tired legs and scrambled heads, there's something for every scenario on Midnightlife Crisis. And with recurring themes of melancholy and anxiety throughout, the album perhaps reflects that all too familiar period for every club enthusiast when the years are ticking by and the lights are coming on. "I just hope there's hope", sings the voice on the album's lead single, before reminding us that the dancefloor's sweet release is often the best remedy to these negative thoughts - "I see you shaking on the floor, that gives me hope, gives me hope." New York techno luminary Adam X debuts on Pinkman with 4 tabs of extra-strength acid specially designed for peak-time club sets. Opening in typically thunderous fashion, the overdriven kick of A1's aptly-named Laying It On Thick sets a tone that doesn't relent for the duration of the record. No-nonsense and straight to the action, Adam X's distinct approach to crafting dancefloor hits shines throughout as multiple 303 refrains weave through stripped back drum patterns for unforgettably hypnotic results. While A2's Trailing Effect drops the tempo a couple of notches, its head-scrambling acid psychedelia would take any bustling dancefloor on a trip long into the early hours. The three remaining tracks give no let-up, fostering a frenetic energy that just can't be contained. Bertram debuts on Dutch cult label Pinkman Records. Fueled by nostalgia, 'Lights Out' aims to execute industrial old school dancehall and dub within a raw electronics framework. It combines old drum machines, vintage synths, acid bass lines, Sherman-laced vocals by Bertram and the people in his life, and clever approaches to the creative process and production. The EP kicks off with Geen Syndroom where jaded, murky melodies go in tandem with sexy bass lines and an obliterating broken drum beat. Thereafter, Nog Steeds High Van De Lak progressively evokes feelings of desolation and melancholia, while carrying an aggressive punch and irresistible groove. Do the flip to find two more ferocious productions in Ver Verwijderd Van Vermoeid and Haar Glans Altijd Strak. The former grips you firmly with bubbling acid and machine gun snares on the backdrop of violent kicks. This 12" is where crunchy drums and heavy bass are laced with aggressively seductive vocals by Sophie Du Palais. While the theme of the songs, compared with their previous record, goes in a rather kinky direction, the raw ferocity that never fails to grip a dance floor remains. More

Pinkman welcomes Pablo Bozzi to the label with a debut mini-LP "Street Reign". A well-crafted 6-tracker, in which the artist subtly weaves his 80s Italo fascination with early 90s Goa influences and weighty body music. The combination oscillates between sweaty dance-floor alertness & shimmering synth euphoria, allowing one to drift in and out of a reverie. We might live in dark times, but this sure gives hope. Nearly a decade after, Berlin's techno front-runner tweaked his machines into a moody electro escapade for his debut on Pinkman. Bearing the torch of a new generation West Coast artists, The Hague based Pasiphae comes through with a haunting four-tracker on Pinkman. Weaving the accents of horror with the ambience of hope, 'Possessed Realms' offers a trip through desolate terrains of restless minds. The haven of the night congregates the wrecked ones and hope tainted with misery turns the grimness into light. The idea of finding comfort and rejuvenation in the dark is liberated, opening broad horizons for creation. While our future might be uncertain, the present is ripe for Pasiphae. More

Italian dark electronics aficionados Alessandro Adriani and Cosimo Damiano come together for a debut collaborative EP on Pinkman. Belonging to different generations but both deeply influenced on one side by "the Sound of Rome", with pioneers like Gabriele Rizzo, Leo Anibaldi and Lory D, and on the other side by the raw electro Dutch legacy of Bunker Records, the two strike a golden middle of their styles with a clanging, raw and packed to the brim with coarseness electro-techno hybrid. Inspired by the cyber dystopia narratives, 'Neurodreamers' reflect on the hi-tech surveillance and the promise of AI which unfolds itself into the prospect of dehumanization. Taking the listener through turmoil and anger, the brutish 4-tracker weave the elements of grubby baselines, coarse synths and erratic percussions with the brain-melting hints of acid and Alessandro Adriani's own recorded vocals.
