Juan Mendez aka Silent Servant is a figure in techno history that needs little introduction. As a member of the Sandwell District collective and the label’s art director he collaborated on works that were responsible for a global focal shift in the genre as their label adapted and challenged the paradigm of minimal techno, taking influence from other sources such as dub, post-punk, and even classical minimalism.

But Mendez’s relationship with music goes back much further than these seminal releases. With In Memoriam, Silent Servant’s latest release on Tresor Records, Mendez writes a deeply personal memoir of a 30-plus year career spent exploring and absorbing the shadowy side of music; a carefully crafted elegy to people, places, and times past and the lasting effect they have on the present.

Across the four tracks, Mendez pays tribute to the earliest Detroit techno and electro, the Belgian EBM movement and the wave music that followed, the monumental dub techno sound from Berlin, and the harder, abrasive sound of the UK at the turn of the last millennium; exploring and referencing the genres that informed his later work. Each track name gives a hint to the timeframe he is revisiting and re-contextualising as the E.P. repurposes the styles that exerted an influence on him.

This E.P. represents a pure distillation of Mendez’s memories whilst also cementing his place in the current and future sound of 21st century techno; aware of where we came from but focused on where we are heading.

Tohu Bohu (released in 2012) has become Rone's most cult album, with tracks like Bye Bye Macadam or Parade. InFiné decided to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the album with an anniversary edition in recycled vinyl (random colour), recycled sleeve and 2 sticker sheets with the artworks of each track of the album.
It has been a decade since electronic producer and musician Erwan Castex, known by the pseudonym Rone, released his groundbreaking and breakout second album Tohu Bohu in 2012. Created in a three-month period soon after moving from Paris to Berlin, Tohu Bohu is more a contemplative, reflective record than it is an observation of his newfound present environment. The result is a truly transcendent, transportive album that has for ten years occupied a space in the electronic music landscape that is wholly its own.

Tohu Bohu was met with a steady landslide of critical acclaim, and hailed by The Creator’s Project as "a beautiful musical artifact from an increasingly powerful musical archaeologist", “grand in scale, yet delicately intimate" by Interview Magazine, and more in Rolling Stone, Vice, XLR8R, The Fader, Tiny Mixtapes, Resident Advisor, and The Atlantic. The tenth anniversary of the album will be celebrated with a special edition vinyl reissue on InFiné, made with fully recycled materials.

In the words of Death + Taxes Magazine in 2012, "Rone is one of the shining lights of electronic music in a decade of micro-genres and artists that burst brilliantly then fade into internet obscurity", and the decade following the release of Tohu Bohu is conclusive proof of that.

Stepping into Rone's music is like sleepwalking through a vividly colorful dream, eventually stumbling across a strange, scintillating Megapolis of saturated light and colors: Mirapolis. It's twelve tracks/districts, each with their own specific planning, pulsate as though animated by their musical mastermind. We snorkel through Mirapolis' musical depths. A city that generates constant wonderment, a desire for emancipation, a gathering of citizens connected to the collective's vital energy. The project was an opportunity for Rone to get reacquainted with long-time stage and studio partners John Stanier, Gaspar Claus and the Vacarme band, and Bryce Dessner (guitarist for The National,) while bringing in new collaborators (and thus, new interpretation of Rone's dreams). We find American slam-poet Saul Williams, who happened to be in Paris for a moment and contributes a searing anti-Trump screed; Baxter Dury, who brings an irresistible East London touch to Switches, a kind of fan fic that reimagines the Beatles' Sgt Pepper lounging pensive in a club chair; Israeli electronic music muse Noga Erez, who inspired Waves, which, despite being recorded remotely, betrays a euphoric partnership; and finally, Kazu Makino, Blonde Redhead's bewitching singer and multi-instrumentalist, who contributes to the album's closer, the gauzy Down for the Cause.

Mihai Popoviciu returns to the label with an incredible new EP. Legendary Romanian producer Mihal Popoviciu broke into the scene way back in 2001, over 20 years later his back catalogue, including releases for Pokerflat, Berg Audio and Hedzup Records, showcases just why he’s considered one of eastern Europe’s most innovative artists. Given his gifted talents in the studio, it wasn’t long before he was travelling across the globe DJing at clubs and festivals as far flung as Thailand, Canada and everywhere inbetween.
