Never one to shy away from synth deep dives, or raw sample flip collaging, this collection of 21 works

Sound Of Vast welcomes the return of The Mole this November with his 'That Is Nice' EP, comprised of three typically twisted cuts from the Canadian-born Berliner.
Over the course of the past two decades Colin De La Plante, better know to most as The Mole, has unveiled numerous EP's, singles and albums via the likes of Perlon, Ostgut Ton, Slices Of Life and of course Sound Of Vast where he returns here following output in recent years from the likes of DJ Sodeyama as The People In Fog, Cinthie, Com Sin aka Cosmin TRG, Shinichiro Yokota and Akiko Kiyama from the Japanese imprint.
Opening the EP is 'Vetafit', laid out across seven a half minutes with bubbling metallic chimes, bumpy bass notes, crunchy drums and an amalgamation of intertwining plucked synth stabs. Title-track 'That Is Nice' follows, shifting focus to cut up funk licks, a walking bass line and tension building strings atop a dynamic, organic drum groove.
On the flip is '17 Day Parade' to conclude the EP, stripping things pack to punchy, modulating drums a wandering sub bass pulsations and warbling, intricately processed horns and stabs, once again we're treated to more weird and wonderful material from The Mole. More

Circus Company and The Mole have long been making eyes at each other across the same crowded dancefloor. Colin de la Plante?s primary project is synonymous with the off-kilter corner of house music we like to spend our time dancing in, and the labels he releases on are close cousins of the Circus troupe. From Wagon Repair to Philpot, Musique Risquee to Perlon, it?s a wonder that we haven?t worked together previously, but finally that?s been put right with Little Sunshine.Stripped back, understated disco grooves have always been the bread and butter of The Mole?s sound, while infectious, cyclical melodic patterns are equally important in making his unique version of house music. On the title track, those elements are presented with full force, but in between the driving rhythms linger the most gorgeous keys, bringing a mellow introspection to the track as a neat counterpoint to the energy of the drums and arpeggios. Compared to the clean lines and peppy tempo of ?Little Sunshine?, ?Discotheque Airplane? is an audacious swerve into low and slow territory, where dusty samples rule the day and the bass swells in and out of earshot with a truly mesmerizing effect. It?s a moody affair loaded with tension, mystery and funk in abundance. As if that wasn?t enough proof of the variety in The Mole?s repertoire, on his collaboration with Dutch hero Tom Trago for ?Down The Hallway? we find the pair exploring lean, focused techno, where the simplest of rhythms propel a haunting, distant vocal lick. It?s the drum sounds that make this a special cut, championing warm, natural percussion instead of the methodical drum machine hits found in most contemporary techno.
Rounding the EP off in a beautifully mysterious style is Aardvarck, whose remix of ?Down The Hallway? takes the subtle foundations of the original and builds delicate, lilting melodies on top. The snooze fest is over and we’re back in the saddle with the first output from Colin La Plante aka The Mole aka half owner of this imprint. He’s been touring up a storm and playing out a lot of new music we’re excited to share with you this year. Spicy noodles are something Colin thinks everyone can love…not one at a time…but by the bowl. This four tracker definitely shows off “new directions” for The Mole – nothing too outlandish mind you, but the path he chose with the title and crowd favourite “gelb grun blau” definitely has these tracks leaning towards the centre of a DJ sets vs. beginning or end…spiralling kick drums with a fine grind blend of digital synths, analog synths, drum machines and the occasional samples here. Vape-house anyone? The closer “back in the studio game” is a beatless one created just for the sunrises of your life.

THE MOLE is back on Slices Of Life with 3 new tracks and 3 different views on the house music of these days. Two years after "Hang In There Fry Guy" (SOL4) Colin de la Plante continues his collaboration with Slices Of Life. The Canadian producer and DJ is very well-known for his love for a wide range of music, which is reflected in his inspiring DJ and live sets. Though his favour for soulful music always shines through in all his productions, it is most evident in the edits of his "7 Inches of Love" series as well as in the trippy excursions on his own imprint "Maybe Tomorrow". Accordingly, the 3 new tracks for Slices Of Life offers an exciting insight into various musical worlds of Colin de la Plante. "Inhuman" surprises with a higher bpm rate than you might expect from The Mole, but the 8-minute track breathes a warm and humorous funk and at the same time twinkles mischievous from the dancefloor. Almost in contradiction to the A side, "Another One of Those Nights" offers a deep and almost melancholic view on the night and its various side effects. And finally, "Hot Tea Dog Man" links perfectly to "Now I Understand" from SOL4: A hypnotic beat that concentrates on the essentials and a few well set elements that carry the track wonderfully and endlessly. But experience the words of the master himself: "I did hear recently that there were 12 million pigs in Holland, compared to 17 million humans .. That's a lot of pigs... and pig meat is in everything... like some wines ... in the production of wine, gelatine can be used as a clarifying agent. The gelatine reacts with the tannins and bitter substances and absorbs cloudy elements that can then be separated from the drink... but pigs didn't really have much to do with this record... "

Canadian born, Berlin based Colin de la Plante aka The Mole remains low-key but loved by many. He thrives off long, late DJ sets and does his best to keep record stores in business with what he earns. The Mole's passion for music speaks through his own - a smoke hazed world without constraint or care for genre but cemented in a foundation built in house music. You can hear him thanks to recent releases for Perlon, Ostgut Ton, Slices Of Life, Haunt, New Kanada, Internasjonal and his long time home, Wagon Repair who released his track that still plays on, "Baby, Your The One". He's remixed many of the finest including Michael Mayer, Imugem Orihasam, Pole and Gui Boratto to name a few.ÊHe continues to record and on occasion perform live with his buddies Cobblestone Jazz that happens to feature Mathew Jonson. So late last year (over beer) with Kompakt's Jon Berry, they came up with Maybe Tomorrow. Inspired by a conversation aboutÊtheir favorite childhood (Canadian) hero "The Littlest Hobo" - a TV show about a German Shepard that had no home and roamed around Canada helping people out. ÊMakes sense right? And now The Mole is back – its been 4 years since we heard his Wagon Repair "High As The Sky" – though quite a long time for some…the beat played on through his many 12" releases between but now he's back with album #2. "Caregiver" was recorded in the now defunct Berlin Wagon Repair studio A(rkona) – a psychedelic caravan roaming a disco laced cosmos that seeks to go beyond any specific niche or sound. In his own words…."Caregiver is supposed to be listenable all the way through. So hopefully that unifying thread has something pleasing within it.".

Sound Of Vast welcomes the return of The Mole this November with his 'That Is Nice' EP, comprised of three typically twisted cuts from the Canadian-born Berliner.
Over the course of the past two decades Colin De La Plante, better know to most as The Mole, has unveiled numerous EP's, singles and albums via the likes of Perlon, Ostgut Ton, Slices Of Life and of course Sound Of Vast where he returns here following output in recent years from the likes of DJ Sodeyama as The People In Fog, Cinthie, Com Sin aka Cosmin TRG, Shinichiro Yokota and Akiko Kiyama from the Japanese imprint.
Opening the EP is 'Vetafit', laid out across seven a half minutes with bubbling metallic chimes, bumpy bass notes, crunchy drums and an amalgamation of intertwining plucked synth stabs. Title-track 'That Is Nice' follows, shifting focus to cut up funk licks, a walking bass line and tension building strings atop a dynamic, organic drum groove.
On the flip is '17 Day Parade' to conclude the EP, stripping things pack to punchy, modulating drums a wandering sub bass pulsations and warbling, intricately processed horns and stabs, once again we're treated to more weird and wonderful material from The Mole. More

Tokyo’s DJ Sodeyama returns as The People In Fog this June, delivering his new album under the alias, ‘1977’, first time in eight years via Sound Of Vast.
Yoshifumi Sodeyama better known to most as DJ Sodeyama has been a driving force in the Japanese underground electronic music scene for many years now, over the past decade and a half he’s been releasing his techno material via the likes of Nina Kraviz's ????, Dynamic Reflection, his own Arpa Records and more. Here though Sodeyama shifts focus to his The People In Fog guise with his new album, the alias was started in 2013 and is a project based on house grooves and unique beats. After the debut album ‘A Ray of Light’ was released eight years ago, he delivered three EPs for Sound Of Vast established in Amsterdam, among which, the ‘Higher’ EP turned out to be a big hit.
Across the ‘1977’ LP, named after the year Chicago’s highly influential Warehouse was born, Sodeyama presents a range of styles in the field of House, from percussive-led, hypnotic offerings like opener ‘South Jefferson’ and ‘Less Is More’, the jazz-tinged aesthetic of ‘No Boundaries’ and more groove driven compositions like ‘Come To Me feat. Monkey Timers’ and ‘Mr. Dub’ which lay focus on swinging drums, snaking bass grooves and chanting vocals.
The final three tracks from the project also shine a light on some acid house influences with a recurring theme of squelchy 303 lines amidst ethereal pad textures, dynamic drums and infectious vocal hooks.
‘1977’ presents the accumulative knowledge and experience of a DJ career which reaches beyond 30 years and further showcases Sodeyama’s passion towards music, all compiled into one long player. More

Series 01’, penciled for release in May sees Cosmin TRG return under his Com Sin guise with ‘Glass Harps’, a fluidly unfolding five and half minutes of pulsating subs, glitching percussion and sparkling harp tones before DJ Sodeyama aka The People In Fog’s ‘Chapter Zero’ takes on a modulating hypnotic feel via psychedelic swells, tension building textures and a bumpy, robust rhythm. UK duo Yard One join the roster with ‘Dream Travel’ on the flip-side, employing a more ethereal aesthetic with floating pads, winding chords and a heavily swung drum groove. This project also sees a new design concept for the imprint from London’s David Surman’s painting installation project ‘Paintings For The Cat Dimension’ which ‘’explores the motif of the cat as emblematic of internet aesthetics, a place where all painting styles and modes now exist non-hierarchically as pure information.’’

Vid has grown to become a driving force in the contemporary minimal house scene in recent years both on his hometurf, Romania one of them most important regions for this sound, and across the globe. Racking up releases on the likes of Pleasure Zone, Andromeda, Brouqade and of course Sound Of Vast where he returns here for his fourth EP on the imprint.
Title-track ‘Life Of Dreams’ leads, laid out over thirteen minutes with murky atmospheric textures, warbling sub bass tones and eerie voices ebbing and flowing amongst a dynamic arrangement of organic percussion. 'Povestea Ei’ follows, rhythmically shifting things in broken territory via jazz-tinged off-kilter drums while poetic spoken word vocals, modulating synths and stuttering bass tones further fuel the mind-altering feel. ‘Povestea Mea’ then rounds out the release, this time round embracing a cinematic feel and employing emotive strings, bubbling synths and minimalaistic pops, clicks and whirrs at its core.

For their second release, Sound Of Vast enroll revered Italian producer Niro who, delivers some of his finest work to date. Remix by Japanese superb producer Gonno (Beats In Space / International Feel). Amsterdam/London based label The Sound Of Vast was founded in 2014 by Japanese DJs Knock and Red Pig Flower. After it made great success of the first EP as an official imprint, the highly praised “The Shades” by Egal 3, For its second issue, VAST enrolls Italian revered producer Niro (unclear, DB Artists Musique and Memento) who, with these 3 tracks, comes up with one of his finest selection of works to date. Taking inspiration from the analogue sounds that permeate his musical landscape - and his studio - Niro just went with the flow here and put no boundaries to what was coming out of the speakers, a journey between land - with the classic Roland synthesizers to set the tone - and space - experimenting on a tripper and more colourful vibe. “La Cochonne Intergactique” is wobbling bass and flanger percussions introduce spacey pads and deep dreamy atmospheres, until a freaky melody breaks out and leads to a soft and slightly dark closing. Its remix brings the percussive elements and drums to the fore, giving a more muscular feeling and a bumpy groove, remix by one of the most respected Japanese producer Gonno (Beats In Space / International Feel). “Krissy Moon” is robotic bleeps and stabs play along twisted beats and computerized rhythms, like the soundtrack to some crazy German late-70s alternative SCI-FI movie, while “Tender As Asphalt”’s sweeps and filters frenzy opens up to bouncy chords and acid ambiences. Also to add more vast flavour into this release, Red Pig Flower's remix had complicated drum tricks and more emotional vibe, as lunatic as “Krissy Moon” indeed.
