In the previous episode: one Queen of Hearts (Catherine Ringer) and two Aces of Spades (Müller + Makaroff) played a game of tango with shades of rock : Plaza Francia. It's beena triumph of leather bound with red velvet. These two worlds have gotten to know each other pretty well.

It would have been easy to quickly put out a live album of the tour, and tempting to remix the studio album too. But to mix these two events into one, that's unheard of: it's an audacious venture to rework (and recompose) in a studio the songs recorded live. That's how seven pieces recorded in public on a multitrack were surgically dissected while retaining the live energy and handed over to expert remixers.

Chico Sonido and Centavrvs. Sonido comes from digital cumbia and revamped two tracks from the original repertoire with aerial dub, while the Centavrvs collective, who practice a more poppy brand of electro but were bred with regional music (locale) and psychedelic Peruvian music from the 60's, offered the Señora Ringer a comfortable roots and amber setting.

The German duo Wolfsburg Pupkulies & Rebecca were also called to service and gave the song 'La Mision' a Berlin shade, sombre and dancefloor till the break of dawn.

There are also two remixes signed by Roy Dubb, mystery remixer who is in fact no other than… Christoph Müller, one of the three from Plazia Francia, who has been remixing tracks for years, either in his pre-Gotan Project phase (when he was doing Boyz from Brazil) or with the Argentinean singer Melingo. Muller notably pumped a whole load of dancefloor power into the engine of the opening song from the original album (which closes this one), 'La Mano Encima', and 'Cada Vez', with electro-latino treatments.

To complete this Re-experience album, there are three new songs (new on record but well established on tour), 'Intro la Mano' which opens the live show, 'Dame Luz' which entered the repertoire mid-tour and 'I've Seen That Face Before', an adaptation of Astor Piazzolla's 'Libertango' that Jean-Paul Goude had tailor-made for Grace Jones in 1981, which Catherine Ringer interprets with gusto.

With his last solo album, Comedy of Menace, already five years behind us, his continuous evolution has led him to produce his most introspective album yet. With this 10-piece composition Fixmer is able to tell a story from start to finish, with powerful, deep, dark, pulsating tones that are essential to his musical approach. Depth Charged is a complete concept as Fixmer's track arrangement takes the audience through various emotions illustrating how there is more to darkness than the dance floor. Beginning with a slow but heavy bassline, "Ellipse" acts as a perfect introduction setting the attitude for the album. "Fleeting Beauty" brings us fluttering chords amidst a serpentine drone, while the rolling bass of "Unforeseen" sends you into a trancelike state. Christian Pahud and Guy Meldem spent this time carefully calibrating their songwriting to achieve what could be called the golden mean, i.e. the perfect balance between a radio friendly sound and club functionality. The result is a collection of songs that are instantly accessible, yet wholly unpredictable. They feel familiar because they were crafted by seasoned musicians who, over the years, have mastered the science of fundamental swing and melody.
The album is full of clever and tasteful references: Africa, the Middle East, the dusty Western 70s and "the white lines" 80s, all shine through at different points of this sonic journey. The production is chunky, juicy, warm and analog. The lyrics are witty and even sometimes downright funny. The song titles testify to this fact: Osama Obama, Love Love Banana, Broken Leg Theory, Les Bambous - come on! Without a doubt, Jura is a beautifully idiosyncratic world, complete and stand-alone.

POINT OF INTEREST First time on cd with 3 unreleased tracks. Simon Lovejoy is responsible for Dj Harvey’s edits on their own Black Cock label and produced Björk’s first electronic tunes. - Simon Lovejoy was resident at Soho’s Brain, an historically important club in the development of house / techno and the first club to encourage live PA’s like Ultramarine or Orbital. Frankie Valentine, dj since the late 70’s, is one of London underground house finest player, still working the crowd like frenzy. Old school really do know how to work it better.

Wouter De Moor debuts on Ovum! With previous EPs on heavyweight imprints such as Get Physical and Poker Flat, Dutch up-and-comer Wouter de Moor's latest release on Ovum Recordings maintains his strong upward trajectory towards the big leagues. Kicking things off is 'Fluf', a chrome-plated jacking banger. Its menacing organ line is punctuated by punishing snare volleys and vocal cuts. This leads into 'Fluffy', a more subdued reinterpretation of the same track. Whilst retaining many of the same musical elements and samples, it drops the tempo and energy somewhat, taking things into trippy, late-night dub techno territory. 'Data Dump' is a hazy cascade of synth stabs and modulated hi-hats, which undulate in and out of the fore, whilst a simple yet effective four-to-the-floor beat drives things forward. 'Brain Fog' is a refreshing left turn, with sun-dappled piano chords and peppy, almost UK-funky-esque snare rolls. The result is a totally unique sounding piece of dancefloor material, infused with soul and colour.

After four technically and aesthetically impressive salvos of eclectic electronics, the 5-year anniversary compilation from Stroboscopic Artefacts reaches its terminus with this new release. Worrying about whether or not the series "goes out with a bang" seems unnecessary, since the series has always felt pleasingly unconventional, and thus not too concerned with the conventional act of providing listeners with a grand finale. Simply put, this high-quality 'retrospective' series has been more about challenging the S.A. constellation of artists to forge new paths than it has been about nostalgically revisiting the past, and so it's better to approach this last installment as a statement on the past informing the future. Donato Dozzy, Lucy, and the Sendai duo are the parties responsible for bringing us the final report of the series. Those already familiar with these artists' past works for S.A. will understand immediately that these artists are not all cut from the same cloth, and those who didn't know that will soon find out. As with the previous 'anniversary' records, the intent here is to synthesize significantly different sounds into a uniform or seamless listening experience, to the point where the record seems more like a genuine collaboration between the artists than a mere "sampler" record offering eclecticism for its own sake. Donato Dozzy's entry here is very much in keeping with the spirit of his S.A. release Terzo Giorno. It is as propulsive as any of the best techno music of past decades, exhibiting a marked indifference to the inessential and a knack for smashing together percussive atoms of a thick and bombastic quality. To do so without punishing speakers completely into submission or turning everything into a fatiguing mess is more difficult than it sounds, but Dozzy is certainly up to the task here. The sole synth sequence appearing in the mix behaves like another component of the drum kit, testifying to the enthusiasm for ambiguity that this artist, label, and series of releases share. Sendai's recent work - particularly their Monad XVII EP released for the same label - has set a very high standard for what could be called 'non-orthogonal' techno, i.e. a rhythmic electronic music that impresses upon the listener like an imaginary city built up from topological novelties and huge undulating structures. Their contribution here, though more insistent than the chimerical soundscapes to be found on the aforementioned outing, nevertheless keeps the duo's reputation for sonic precision intact - doing so with a highly energized low-end bounce, half-submerged brooding basslines, and cleverly twisted hybrid sounds. Lucy's track, clocking in at eleven and a half minutes, is suitably vast, and composed with the inquisitive skill of a seasoned documentarian. While some might see such an epic track as an attempt by the label boss to remind everyone just who 'runs the show' at the label, Lucy's piece manages to be highly engrossing without upstaging either Dozzy or Sendai. Guided along by an overwhelming metronomic thump and a slightly hesitant organ refrain, this tense track sends the listener hurtling deeper into inner space with the addition of each new sonic element. Panning bits of tunnel ambience, distorted snaking figures, and metallic ephemera all make bold entries into the total sonic scenario and - as if reluctant to leave - undergo a variety of tonal and timbral permuations before eventually receding again. Now, having noted that conclusive statement, the Stroboscopic Artefacts team knows well that finding the "ultimate" sound would mean the end of sound creation altogether. They are to be commended for not striving towards that end point, and for releasing a "final chapter" that has little to do with finality, instead suggesting more and better creations instigated by the changing circumstances in the artists' lives.

We kick off 2015 with Efde's debut EP for Soweso! After delivering a killer remix for Samuel Dan's "Shake It" release back in 2011, it's time for Efde to take the spotlight. Efde has been captivating us with his compelling dj sets and exquisite selection at places like Trouw and our Soweso label nights. With his "Move On EP" this all comes together in a a unique blend of jacking house fuelled with warm pads and techno rhythms. Four tracks that are drenched in Detroit nostalgia, but with a very contemporary vibe and an irresistible groove. The title track has been remixed by the amazing Trus'me. The Prime Numbers head honcho has been making waves in the international techno scene over the last decade with hits like "Somebody" and his recent album "Treat Me Right". The remix he did for Efde is no exception; the "Thrust Mix" is a dark and eerie banger that will leave its marks on the dance floors. Don't sleep on this one!

Christophe Chassol's brilliantly-dazzling third album, crowns his trilogy of ultrascores (a method he elaborated for harmonizing, symphonizing real life, the 'here and now'), which started out in Creole-speaking New Orleans (Nola Che?rie, 2011) before pursuing its route through India (Indiamore, 2013).
In March 2014, Christophe Chassol took off for Martinique, his family's birthplace; these West Indies that epitomize everything he dreamt of expressing, from the purely personal to the perfectly panoptic. Hand-in-hand with the production sound mixer Marie-France Barrier and the sound engineer Johann Levasseur, the trio filmed and recorded a myriad of extraordinary encounters, scenes of everyday life, the carnival... a highly-evocative documentary that was to become the matrix of Big Sun.
Back in France, he composed, edited, rehearsed and created the 27 tracks of a 70- minute West Indian space odyssey. Big Sun is a weaveworld of birds' songs and Pipo Gertrude's whistling, Joby Bernabe?s poetry and a te?te-a?-te?te with a lady mountain-dweller, Sissido and Samak's rap, Mario Masse's flute, the Fort de France carnival, conch shell echoes, the ocean's music and the hullabaloo of a game of dominos. And sumptuous pieces of music like La Route de la Trace or Reich & Darwin, which suddenly spring up at a bend in the road and take our breath away.

Inspired by the success of last summer's retrospective on Poker Flat, Steve Bug takes up his Traffic Signs moniker once more for a fabulous jam that more than merits the 10-year wait. The uncredited tunes that first came out under this name were classic jack tracks that devastated dancefloors - and "Cookie Jar" is a more than worthy successor. This is stripped-down house, Chicago-esque, direct and determined to make you move. Berlin legend Jake The Rapper adds downright dirty humour with a spoken vocal fit for an age of internet sextapes and celebrity photo hacking. "I like what you're cookin. Those cookies smell goooood," he rascalously declares. Three mixes sprinkle the musical equivalent of chocolate chips, pecans and Brazilian stardust over the original. Steve Bug makes fine adjustments for the club, bouncing around the kick drums and doubling the synth riff with strings, while Joyce Muniz's dark, strobing treatment adds a dirty bass line for sexy, sweat-drenched dancefloors everywhere. Stripping away the vocal on the dub, Muniz's production talents are all the more scintillating, irresistibly kinetic from beginning to end. The brilliant video for 'Cookie Jar' has been created by swiss-french duo Ben & Julia, who let us take part in their playful, colorful and surreal world that suits the song so well.
