The inimitable Dr San Proper returns with his second album Ferotones following up his debut 2012 long play smasher Animal (on Rush Hour). It’s been a tumultuous and colorful journey since, and although the sound might have changed, San still delivers a collection of songs off the cuff and straight from the heart.

The eight tracks collected here are odes to lost love, as San tries to win back the heart of that very special someone. Penned deep in the pit of emotion, San recorded the songs in only a handful of sessions. With the assistance of Amsterdam stalwart and Safe Trip regular Darling, San could lean more towards the wavey guitar sounds and danceable disco workouts he had in mind.

“The songs just came out this way,” he says. Raw and honest, while at the same time lying through his teeth. “If you check the lyrics, I’m promising my girl the world, even though I never deliver.” And that’s the conundrum at the core of this record - challenged but aware of it, San celebrates the faults just as much as the blessings, before embarking on the long, healing journey back to love.

San Proper is the real deal. Somewhat of a street legend even.. Ask anyone crossed paths with him and you will hear the wildest stories. This might be his debut album, but make no mistake, Proper is a hardcore DJ veteran, starting his career DJ'ing small-time gigs in the shadiest bars, six nights a week. True love for music and his unbreakable optimism kept him in the groove. His enthusiasm caught on and slowly but surely he garnered a devoted following. In 2007 he released his first releases for Rush Hour, but his big break came in 2009 when he dropped his now classic single 'Keep It Raw' for Perlon and shot to #1 in Germany's Groove Magazine Top 50. More singles followed and his profile of a must see DJ and pure bred entertainer rose, touring and creating cult followings everywhere from the Japan to South America. Dr. Proper has never been in a hurry, but in the fall of 2011 the time felt right for San to start working on his debut album. Months of rampaging studio sessions followed, writing tracks all over the globe during his frantic touring schedule or in his Amsterdam studio and Paris apartment. The journey finished in Berlin, where he ended up in the studio of Proper believer Ricardo Villalobos who eventually mixed the album, ensuring audiophile bliss. The result is the trippiest of trips. Leading deep house connoisseurs and creators of Hold Youth Records Seuil and Le Loup, gear up to unveil their labels debut EP ‘Classics’ – an excursion into blue-eyed soul and hip-hop infused grooves. Retaining an element of mystery and authenticity, Hold Youth will be a vinyl only label, keeping it strictly underground. An outlet for Seuil and Le Loup’s own productions, the label will feed on their musical inspirations, and nurture homegrown talent while exploring a range of sounds and styles, from hip-hop and soul through to house and techno. Hold Youth is also the name of the DJ duo and their residency at Social Club in Paris. ‘Classics 001’ is a split EP with two offerings from Hold Youth on the A-side. The first track ‘Nautil Us’ is a rework, which modernises the 1974 ‘Nautilus’ by Bob James while ‘Paname’ focuses on the solid underground house style with that all-important French touch and a sprinkling of NYC. On the B-Side, Seuil delves into funkadelic, hip-hop influenced waters with ‘Khemestry’, which pays homage to Trankilou and J. Dilla’s deep side. Le Loup rounds off the EP with a track rooted in Cuban Salsa, but with brawny beats and a modern hip-hop twist.

"Every week end Im going to Concrete to listen the artists who are playing there. I'm talking about music with them , and do the same with people sharing the dancefloor with me. I collect all these inputs and ideas, all this energy, to define what CONCRETE MUSIC DNA is. Because of this variety of people, tastes, and point of views, the label can't be reduced to one and only genre. To make the music more easy to apprehend, we are splitting the label in 3 parts, 3 differents moods, or more precisely, 3 times of the day... CONCRETE MUSIC 7AM contains the kind of music you could easily listen in our club at dawn, when the light is blue and the sun starts to filter through the mi-closed shutters. Minimalistic, freaky or mellow, but always DEEP. CONCRETE 3PM is definetly turned to HOUSE MUSIC. 3Pm is the time when smiles are on every face, when the same vibe, the same energy, is going through every stomach in the room, and the crowd becomes one same entity. CONCRETE MUSIC 4AM aims for the more Techno and black side of the music we love. At 4AM, fists are pumping the air, or heads are down and eyes closed. It's not about how hard or fast the kickdrum beats, but how thick the atmosphere is.

Equally known for dark electro-pop as DK7, muscular club tracks with Tiga or powerful high-profile remixes, Jesper Dahlbäck has dutifully served techno in all its forms over the last two decades and turned into one of the pillars of the scene. As with most electronic heavyweights, the Swedish producer's catalogue holds plenty of more or less hidden sub-projects that experimented with techno or house in the past, and remained pivotal to many. One of them, the Persuader, was among the few names that built cult label Svek, an underground brand of refinement that spawned dozens of forward-thinking and neatly cut house/dub 12 inches between 1996 and 2003. That's this very facet of his music personality that Jesper offered to reincarnate for the 5th installment of the Concrete Music label. More than ever in the Dahlbäck canon, Autumn Leaves veers towards the abstract, as opener "A Hymn To Him" suggests. Under a line of sizzling metallic hi-hats, some sparse piano keys respond to erratic moody chords, suspended amidst an almost beat-less landscape, conjuring both a feeling of space and solitude that one Murcof wouldn't deny. One has to wait until the second track, "Sun Position", to hear a proper techno pulse, though transposed in a dark, puzzling setting made of ominous synthetic slabs that resonate with claustrophobia and gloom. The B face smoothes round the angles and shifts us to more familiar grounds with the softer and friendlier forms of "Jaco's Ladder", a relaxed moment of classic-house warmth caressed by loungey chords. Concrete nights resident and Perlon regular Cabanne then softens the vibe of "Sun Position" and gives it a more comfortable but insidious minimal house background, as a closing to this captivating and contrasted set.
