Obsession is a label headed by Matt Didemus aka DIVA and Primitive World. Its 4th release, a new project "N /Y / X" sees Didemus partnering up with fellow Canadian Iron Galaxy for the first 12" in series by the duo. Their first foray together, the inception of which were the results of a 10 day jam session in artist residency in Utrecht, sets a very high bar. Double A-side ‘Love Haze’ / ‘Kalamazoo’’ while perfect for a peak time devastation, reflects how their sculpted sonic textures tow the line between the abrasive and fluid. ‘Love Haze’’s polyrhythmic synth figure confounds and delights. Refractory chords cascade over an unrelenting rhythm track, while ‘Kalamazoo’ effortlessly conjures the sound of winter melancholy with its aquatic chord stabs, restrained bassline and weeping 101. The combination of Love Haze's surgically eq'd rhythmic assault and Kalamzoo's longing retro-futurism demonstrates great breadth and promise for the duo and for Obsession Recordings in 2015.
