Global techno titan Josh Wink returns to his own Ovum Recordings for big new single 'Balls Back', which comes with a remix from Marco Faraone. Philly-born DJ, legendary producer and the man behind many of techno's most iconic cuts, Josh Wink remains as prominent now as he did a quarter of a century ago. That is because of the constant sense of innovation in all he does, as well as his rare understanding of dance floor dynamics and mastery of his studio. Says Josh of his latest track, “Every time I play this people rush over asking 'what is this track that says “get your balls back”?' Its reaction after playing has been amazing and reassuring that it hits hard, works on the floor, and sticks in people's heads.“ He's not wrong: the powerful 'Balls Back' is a spatial, acid-tinged techno stormer that builds and builds until it ultimately explodes in signature Josh Wink fashion. The 303s are saturated in deep processing along with heavy 909 percussion and a ‘slap-you-in-your-face’ vocal sample that will lead to dance floor devastation. The dub version is a raw, stripped down and faster-paced bass jacker that turns up the heat, and a Balls Tool is also included for dexterous DJ deployment. Italian Marco Faraone is a fellow techno heavyweight and one of the scene’s most versatile producers. He has brought his always impactful sounds to labels like Drumcode, Rekids and Etruria Beat. "When playing this new track for the family at home. My partner stopped what she was doing and started dancing. Afterwards she waxed her feelings from the song saying how strong she felt from it and commented about how it seemed based on my astrological sign of my ruling planet Mars being in my Aries, and how the track had strong, powerful, fiery and fierce fast paced animalistic passion. So… I said 'Wow. Okay.' I went into the studio the next day and added the vocal, switching the two as it had a better rhythmic flow."

Ovum are proud to present a very special remix release as Josh Wink's 2015 future-shocker 'Denial' enjoys not one but two versions from Luke Slater.
Splitting his complex multi personality across two sides, the UK techno lifer explores his innermost dual psyche to create two wholly different tracks. Both of which reflect the strengths of the original while taking it into vastly different directions.
First up: Planetary Assault Systems. One of Luke's oldest and boldest alter-egos, here he provides a nuclear powered bulldozer of a version. Fission hisses and mechanical rasps wrap around the undulating groove that charge relentlessly with a dark funk coded into the bass. Watch out for the additional percussion and brash snares midway for added atom-splitting momentum.
LB Dub Corporation follows. One of Luke's shyer personas, this is the first LB Dub Corp production since his Ostgut Ton album 'Unknown Origin' in 2013. A deeper, rolling analogue groove is at play here, suddenly dropping to reveal the loopy, automaton vocal loop from Josh's original to awesome hypnotic effect.

With such an impeccable track record for his original productions, any news of an impending Josh Wink release is usually met with a familiar mix of excitement and trepidation. When the bar is perpetually raised to such lofty heights, what can one man do to keep such momentum going? The answer, naturally, is to slam the listener with the kinetic intensity of a full on jackhammer acid assault, and that's exactly what 'I'm Talking To You' does. A swelling TB 303 motif contorts and swims around a vocal snippet, distorted and chopped to mind-bending effect in classic Wink style. Make no mistakes, the Philly godfather still reigns supreme; Wink is here, and he's talking to you. The release also features a (subjectively) more subdued 'Groove' mix, and a signature 'TalkApella' tool for DJ sets.

Commencing Ovum's 20th birthday celebrations, Josh Wink digs into the vaults for a very special piece of the label's history, presenting three perfect reinterpretations of Wink's hyperkinetic acid techno classic 'Are You There'.
Wink explains the history and concept behind the track: "The original version was composed in 1994 - just after 'Higher States', 'I am ready' and 'Don't laugh' - and released in 1996, I can't believe it has been 20 years since it was written! I had a friend, in Cleveland Ohio, who knew I never answered my home phone. So, when he called my house, he believed I was there screening and listening to the calls on my answering machine. Hence, "Are you there". Which was actually taken from my answering machine mini cassette, with his blessing. Ben Klock contacted us in regard to him using his own remix version for his fabric mix release. We gave him permission, as an exclusive to the mix, with the possibility for Ovum to release it at a later time. A while ago, we at Ovum were talking about releasing certain catalog legacy tracks for the 20 Years celebration, and 'Are You There' was one on the top of the list. We decided to release his remix on Ovum in 2014, which we're very happy about as we are big fans of Ben. There is also an ROD remix by Benny Rodrigues. Benny is a talented passionate producer who contacted me to ask to remix the original. It's nice to be able to release music close to 20 years old that people are still influenced by. We will be re-releasing both the original and remix versions as part of the 20 years of Ovum celebration." - Josh Wink
Ben Klock's remix retains the clattering amen breaks of the original, which sits over a cavernous sub-bass undertow. The ROD remix is dangerously stripped back, letting the vocal snippet take precedence against jacking handclaps and skittering hi-hats.

Four years since his last EP release and Josh Wink is back with Balls on Ovum.
Since his acclaimed album release in 2009 with 'When A Banana Was Just A Banana', Josh Wink has been heavily touring and working on building a new studio. Last year he produced his greatest creation to date, a beautiful baby son. After taking some time out to enjoy his newly found fatherhood, he finally got into his brand new studio towards the end of 2012. The outcome was 'Balls' - a ten-minute drive of pulsing intensity bating towards a huge breakdown, unlike any of Wink's work to date… "I am always surprised with what happens when I go into the studio after not being in there for a while. I feel heavily inspired to make music by all the great things I hear and from personal experiences that have occurred over the past year. I didn't expect to make a techno track. However, the grooves came quickly and naturally along with the hypnotic analog pulses. Originally I came up with the foundation of my grooves using a beta version of Ableton's Live 9. And after I constructed the fundamentals of the track- I hit record, tweaked and grooved the components live for 20 minutes, and then tightened up and edited the best parts into a sequence. Then I played out, got some new ideas from crowd interaction, and re-tweaked and made improvement. When describing the track to Matt (Ovum label manager) I was saying that I think that you really have to have balls to play this track, as it's a little different from most of the music out there right now. The track's time couldn't be edited down any further as the story and journey wouldn't be conveyed. So, the ten minutes is DJ friendly and I'm happy that I can express my tale. The track, usual of my work, is based on aural textures and tension. The breakdowns have changed through several attempts, and are now adjusted to drive the crowds, whether in clubs or festivals." - Josh Wink When you're as iconic a figure as Josh Wink, it's not so easy to sum up a career in a few words-but there are a couple of terms that might serve to get a handle on the seminal electronic-music producer's lifework. One of the most apt, certainly, would be longevity. Italian Lombardo has been crisscrossing the globe and headlining all its most tasteful clubs and festivals for many years. Her powerful, heartfelt grooves have come on the most influential labels of the day and her critically acclaimed debut album 'Life of Leaf' showed that she can do all sounds and styles from downtempo to pop with equal skills. Her mix of innovation and compelling grooves continues on this latest EP. The vocals on the opener 'Magic Moment' are a poem Francesca's friend Victoria sent to her. She kept them for four years before ?nding the special inspiration that encouraged her to use them in these writing sessions. They lend the tune an intimate feel and draw you in deep to the elegant house drums and warming synths. It's an uplifting and classy tune with a standout Moog bassline that will lock in the floor. This debut from longstanding East German maestro Mathias Kaden is no exception

A bucket-list EP for the Gera-based artist whose followed and collected from Winks label since inception, Nova is both a personal showcase and a homage to a label thats inspired his tension-heavy signature. Adding to a discography that boasts some of most respected techno labels possible (Vakant, Mule Musiq, Watergate, Desolat, Freude Am Tanzen), the Nova EP flexs Kadens darkest and deepest tendencies and includes certain signatures that many of the best Ovum releases share: acid, a direct and effective single word sample, versions and a DJ tool that will blow your dancefloors heads off.

The acid mix of Nova sets the scene. Introducing Amberoom: a brand new name from three old friends… Manuel Tur, Adrian Hoffmann and Ramin Nouyan.
Operating in a similar mindset to Manuel's Ribn project a few years ago, Amberoom is a celebration of the freestyle spirit. Three mates and a bunch of machines jamming the day away with no intention but creating beautiful moments, dynamics and tones.
The spirit is evident from the off on 'Rhit': The mid tempo funk in the percussion, the breath-taking organ blasts, the casually late piano line… The track has a life of its own that could only come about through jamming and open minds. At points heads-down and tribal, at others epic, this really is powerful stuff.
The power continues on 'Hover'. The staggered woodblock beat that ignites the track gives no hint at what's about to come… Suddenly a dense fog of synths heave into the mix, harmonically weaving with a yearning cosmic far-away feel that's just as much physical as it is emotional. Genuinely majestic.
We close with 'Machine' which sums up the beauty of the project; a homage to the hardware being pumped and massaged to create these fusions, it's an awe-striking 11 minute episode of brilliantly drawn out deep, dubby funk. The guitar twangs and synth ripples creating a strong Balearic feel, the whirling, grainy FX and textures have a trippy appeal while the crunchy kicks keep everything real… This really does take you away to special places.

With over 25 years in the game, André Galluzzi can respectfully be awarded the veteran badge of honour. A mark of experience and longevity for an artist who has, as they say, been there and done it all. Today howeversees the German take on a new adventure, with his debut release for Josh Winks Ovum Recordings. As a DJ, André has held residencies at three of Germany and the worlds most influential Clubs - Tresor, Ostgutand Berghain. Been the driving force behind his own We Play Vinyl party. Managed his own Taksi (along side Paul Brtschitsch) and Aras Record labels and featured his own music on such highly acclaimed imprints as Cocoon, Cadenza, Ostgut Ton and Highgrade. Back in 2001, having released his seminal mix compilation, 'Im Garten', André embarked on a new series of events that regularly saw him play intoxicating sets of up to 10-hours. The parties went by the name of Submerge and those infamous Dj sets have inspired his beautiful brace for Ovum today. The metronomic kick drum of the title track introduces us to its immersive groove, whilst bubbling and elasticated fx vie for our attention, adding a sublime swing to Submerge. On the flip, Bold, by name and nature, ups the swing ante with its fierce acidic melody, shimmering hats and rasping snare.

Anton Pieete is known for his classic, textured take on House & Techno. The Dutchman has spent recent years exploring the reaches of his analogue set up, releasing a string of hugely popular EPs for Joris Voorns Rejected imprint. Now he turns over his latest wares to Ovum, with another impressive offering in the shape of TheMenu.

While it may be our starter; first dish Peven is definitely more of a main course. Heady and intoxicating with itspercussive, funky drums and undulating keys, its carries us on its woozy wave of rich analogue bass.

Our appetite is further satisfied by the deeper sophisticated tones of Lite Green. Its malleable, swinging groove is governed by its pulsating bassline and dense kick-drum as lazer synths sweep and claps fire on thisclassy cosmic jam.

BN300s dramatic and ghostly strings are at odds with its frenetic bouncing bass melody and yet together theywork in complete harmony to create our final musical indulgence from The Menu.

Marco Faraone makes his debut on Josh Winks legendary Ovum Recordings with an original 4 track EP. EntitledRaw Jamsessions 001, the EP is the first of a new concept series intended for vinyl lovers and those whoappreciate the analogue sound.

The entire EP was produced live, with Marco connecting his hardware, preparing the patterns and recordinglive to Tape, unedited. The result is four high quality dance floor tools, with a raw, dusty, old-school analogueedge. Whilst each track is untitled, they each have their own distinct feel; the first is a rolling journey of echoingsynths and hefty drums, whilst the second is a long-player featuring a cascade of acid-tinged stabs. On the Bside003 makes for a laid-back yet gritty 6 minutes, whilst 004 closes off the EP with layers of percussion overa thudding bassline.

Raw Jamsessions 001 cements Marco Faraones status as a truly talented and diverse producer.

Gel's production career exploded with Ovum almost 10 years ago with the iconic aforementioned 'Underground Bullshit' EP. Since then he's established relationships with some of Ovum's most respected, progressive contemporaries - Defected, Mobilee, Get Physical, Be As One - but now the Israeli craftsman is back at his spiritual home with three of his biggest tracks in recent times. Get to know:
Lean, stark, iced-out; 'Raver' was tailored for Ovum. Every element plays a key role; from the oak-trunk kicks to the bellowing subs to the demonic downpitched spoken sermon by way of the life-support machine rhythmic texture... Everything comprised to create a subtle, restrained but wholly dark tech groove that refuses to quit.
With a refreshing sense of contrast, 'Optical' slaps hard from the off as a plucked riff springs from out of nowhere. A true drama-raiser that fluctuates back and forth, causing every other element from the kicks right the way up to the percussion to follow its tense pattern. Drop this and watch the panic unfold before your very eyes.
Finally we hit 'Akasa'. Tapping into the EP's heritage theme with its timeless, almost bouncy acid line, Gel establishes a tangible sensation of physical funk with increasing percussive elements and a synth lick that gets decidedly trippy and unpredictable. Ovum welcomes Leftbank Records co-boss Dudley Strangeways: a UK house and techno DJ rooted with serious residency stripes at the legendary Back To The Future Parties and appearances at the likes of Boiler Room. Hot off the back of releases on StarDub, Little Helpers and Made Of Concrete comes his Ovum debut; three tracks made constructed for one sole purpose… Melting minds in the darkest of rooms.
'Keep It Clean' is twistedly simple; a rump-busting roll in the drum department and paranormal pad leave space for a precision tuned tone that warps with the gravitas of a life support machine. Sinewy, cold and deliciously disconcerting, Dudley ensures funk and focus with delicately placed rhythmic elements and constant fluctuations.

Next we find ourselves breaking into an early 90s warehouse as 'Transition' whisks us on an acid trip with flurries of jack and a lean lead line that slithers through the ever-mutating drums and occasional FX hailstorms. Devilishly futuristic and tailored for those deep long blends, the stripped back extensive nature of this guarantees mixing bliss.

Nacho Marco's 'Warm Trax Vol. 1' was an Ovum highlight in 2015 and a much welcomed return to the label for the Spanish producer. Vol. 1 with its rich analogue textures and acidic flair, picked up a wealth of support. Today Nacho returns with Vol. 2 and a new trio of Trax for our trip.

One of the most acclaimed DJ's and producers from Spain, Nacho Marco's rich musical history is evident in all of his productions. As comfortable creating a peak time acid number as he is rolling the depths of house, Nacho is clearly influenced by the early sounds of Chicago and acid house and always delivers a modern twist on what is a timeless sound. It's one thing to take influence from the past, but its quite another to ensure that you keep on pushing forward.

Hypnotic and sparse, Afterlife opens the Ep with its bubbling acid line and stripped, raw beats that bring you back to the Warehouse.

Let's Play continues with the acid theme as it ripples away under a drowsy bassline, broken by tight snare and shining hats that build to peak time bliss.

Finally we're treated to the smooth balearic vibes of Tell Me Something, with its hooky piano riff and smooth synth chords. Sunset/rise anyone?

The precision-tuned tech machine that is Rob Hes continues to scale up the gears with his highly anticipated debut on Josh Wink's Ovum.
A key weapon in Rob's full-shade arsenal, 'Main Sounds' follows a solid stream of steam-powered grooves on the likes of Tronic, SCI+TEC, Elevate, KD Music and, just this month, Gregor Tresher's Breaking New Soil. It's already become the subject of ardent 'ID' theorists and demanding fan queries thanks to his recent Asia tour video... Now he's finally able to unleash it, along with two other equally dynamic grooves.
'Main Sounds' is the type of track that catches you unaware. A stately 4/4 suddenly goes into overdrive as a cathedral-shaking arpeggio penetrates to the forefront. Creepy, consistent and chilling, it will have your floor hypnotised from start to finish.
'On The Move' ups the physical sensation factor with its steam-powered drum arrangement. Each percussive element perfectly positioned to heighten the drama, the rhythm is complemented every step of the way as an icy hook entwines itself amid the lolloping energy.
Finally we hit "Perfect Illusion" where dense layers of atmospheres shroud the spectrum and chunkier brick-like kicks plough through the mists driving a shimmering hook and its acidic tendrils to the centre with restrained suspense. Fresh from launching his 909 Til Infinity with Option 4 and storming BPM so hard he was identified by Pulse Radio as one of the key breakthrough acts of the Mexican festival, MANIK returns to Ovum with more visceral, physical slabs of straight-up tech funk.
'Recourse' is special. Teaming up with LA word-painter Cari Golden, his fluctuating, body-popping groove is peppered with barbed purring poetry that's part existential, part party, all unique: Cari matching MANIK's every bobbing bass texture, MANIK matching Cari's every observation, everything about 'Recourse' is distinctive, exciting and full of fresh energy.
Momentum maintained throughout; things take an unexpected dubby twist as the 'VHS' shimmers and ripples with synth insistency. Rolling hi-hats, hip-snapping clap attacks and a timeless vocal shot build around each other, occasionally revealing a fully-juiced bassline swinging and rolling with total consistency. 'Los Angeles Dub' is straight up jack, no chaser: a grainy, analogue moment of total unabashed machine-melting funk.
