The whole project is a continuation of a relationship that reaches back to 2010, when the celebrated Italian duo made up of Leo and Omar first collaborated with Marc Antona on The Owl EP. For this sample record, three powerful tracks have been selected that reveal what an exciting, highly detailed listening experience the full album will be. There is of course a club-friendly thrust to all the cuts, as you would expect from this pair of producers, but there are lots of other moods at work which reveal themselves through the course of the tracks. From the start “The mole” paints a vivid picture of crooked, rusted textures, using layers of
rough and metallic found-sounds to whisk the listener away into their dense, percussive headspace. “6AM” equally has a rich sound world to get lost in, using a bed of forest textures as a comfortable backdrop in contrast to the piercing impact of the lead synth. On the strength of these three tracks, the album holds much promise as a landmark release for both Re-UP and Dissonant. “Two in a Row” meanwhile takes its time in building up the tension, working

Following his widely celebrated Macro Habitat EP of last year, Santos returns to Dissonant to deliver another three tracks, laying down detailed rhythms that shimmer with the infectious energy in which the man has made his twenty-year career on. "Garlic" is a roving thrill-ride that hangs on to the commanding groove as it whips through a dense landscape of sound, constantly moving forward with an energy that speaks to primal instincts. That leaves it to "Invisible" to get deep in the dub, letting masterfully handled delay and reverb pulse out a spiritually enriching techno mantra.
"Cable" takes a different approach, weaving some colour into the mix. The rolling beat flirts with playful swathes of synthesizer and samples for a wonderfully trippy end result that delights the mind, just as it moves the body.

The title track "Outside The Box", featuring Zay De Mello, is the perfect club track, full of hypnotic percussion that pushes forwards with an unstoppable energy, while the well-selected vocal samples add an extra layer to the impeccably mixed dancefloor journey. "Doctor Who" takes a more subtle approach, using minimal rhythms and space to create an unpredictable feeling. As the track comes to life in a cycle of crisp drums, the natural and mechanical beats interlock seamlessly and channel the spirit of another mysterious speech into the funky, tribal workout. Placing groove and atmosphere above all else, AMO has made an excellent addition to Dissonant with a sound that was destined to be on the label.
