Ricardo Tobar - Our Violence
2
Ricardo Tobar - La Femme Aux Masques (SYO Summer of Love Remix)
3
Ricardo Tobar - La Femme Aux Masques
4
Ricardo Tobar - Mineral
Genre: House / Techno
We commence with a warm and bouncy UK acid house vibe. We conclude with a beguiling 'Boards of Canada' style electronic bubble bath. We're treated to an array of flavors and an outstanding S.O.N.S remix in between. It can only be MUSAR and another compelling collection from Ricardo Tobar.
With a discography that started on Border Community and includes the likes of Co-coon and ESP Institute as well as MUSAR, Chilean Ricardo's credentials speak for themselves.
His music does, too. Constantly playing with themes of displacement, disorientation and delight in his fusions, 'Our Violence' was inspired by the ongoing discussions of cultural appropriation. At its heaviest, on tracks like the Isolee-esque 'Our Vio-lence' and S.O.N.S's SYO rolling breakbeat remix of 'La Femme Aux Masques', we're thrust deep into the most hypnotic of dances. At its most esoteric and experi-mental, tracks like 'Mineral' and 'La Femme Aux Masques', we're taken to places we didn't even know existed. Places that refuse to accept current formulas or standards and take us outside the box - where MUSAR always loves to be.
Tracklist 12":
A1. Our Violence (S.O.N.S Remix) / 07:24
A2. La Femme Aux Masques (SYO Summer of Love Remix) / 07:44
B1. La Femme Aux Masques / 04:56

Ricardo Tobar - The Structures Of Summer Are Within Us
Genre: House / Techno
Following celebrated releases from Annie Hall, J.Wiltshire, MANASYt and Mental
Overdrive, Amsterdam based label MUSAR returns to Ricardo Tobar for ‘Nadivi’, two
earthy electronic trips, accompanied by a bewitching remix from Legowelt.
On this exciting release, Chilean-born Tobar continues his knack of blending the live
tones of krautrock and electronica with a house and techno pulse, in a style not
dissimilar to Luke Abbot or James Holden (Tobar has previously released on the
latter’s imprint, Border Community.)
Title track ‘Navidi’ finds him at his offbeat best, a genuinely progressive and
psychedelic rolling house number that blossoms into something surprisingly epic
while utilising only weirdo textures, askew basslines and otherworldly samples.
Legowelt, meanwhile, flips the energy of the original into an acid bath, blending his
typical grit with a halcyon and dare we say, surprisingly funky bassline!
Retaining the weirdo spirit of its source material. Finally, on the memorably titled ‘The
Structures Of Summer Are Within Us’, Tobar rolls out a wistful, cathartic live jam that
blossoms into something curious and perhaps unexpected, reminiscent of Silver
Apples or Animal Collective.
Staking further claim as one of the most naturally innovative and feeling producers in
the electronic music landscape, ‘Navidi’ is that rare sort of dance release;
propulsive, intriguing and refreshingly lovely.

Ricardo Tobar - Parques
Genre: House / Techno
Releasing his first ever vinyl release ‘El Sunset’ on James Holden’s, Border Community back in
2007, Chilean producer Ricardo Tobar has since been held in high regard by the seminal UK
producer. Intricately constructing his way around the parameters of emotionally-lead, highly
atmospheric electronic music, Ricardo has brought his sound forward to grace the rosters of
Jennifer Cardini’s, Correspondant, ESP Institute and MUSAR Recordings. Continuing to
extend his already significant discography, he now returns to MUSAR Recordings for a third time
with the ‘After The Movie’ EP.
Ricardo’s ‘After The Movie’ EP forms a selection of cuts that have been held in his locker for quite
some time. Uncovered by MUSAR Recordings label head, Dweedo on a podcast from way back, it
seemed only natural that this unreleased music from Ricardo would find its home on the
Amsterdam-Tel-Aviv label.
“This EP is quite special to me because it reflects a long timeline in my work.
The ‘After The Movie’ track had been in the vault for ages until David from MUSAR found it
in an old podcast; it really takes me back to those first steps in recording music.”

ricardo tobar - Recife (Bailemix)
2
ricardo tobar - Cuatro Meses De Verano
After a brief wander ‘round the garden, Chilean-born Ricardo Tobar returns to the ESP Institute bearing earthly delights. With 2017’s Liturgia, he introduced his creative point-of-view—instantly substantiating a sense of rhythm that was deliberately complex yet slightly rough around the edges, while touching upon his musical origins from the guitar-driven corners of psychedelia— however with his debut 2xLP Continuidad, he leaves us gobsmacked and seeking shelter as he leaps from dancefloor comforts and descends into absolute chaos (in more ways than one). Emotionally, the artist has crossed all previously self-imposed and subconscious thresholds, putting his true imagination on display and exposing an unwavering attraction to all things loud, orgasmic and transcendent. He’s not subtly hinting at a fetish, but opening his arms wide with conviction, abandoning genre taboos and personally inviting everyone to join his enchanted caravan. Sonically, his appetite for intensity is clear throughout—epic chord changes, ascending peaks in arrangement, accumulating layers of grit that build into impenetrable blankets of distortion and feedback—a kind of aural hedonism that translates visually into the potent video abstractions our Mario Hugo has summoned for the album’s packaging. This follow-up single surrounding the Continuidad album boasts the dirty little secret Bailemix of album track Recife—we wont go as far as uttering the “T” word, but this is unbridled merciless tops-off festival gear for the massive. The flipside is another exclusive non-album cut Cuatro Meses De Verano, a rhythmic build-up that breaks into a low-slung funky stomper, Tobar’s idea of a warm-up weapon.

This might all sound like a warning for Hurricane Ricardo, but fear not, listeners will still find some security in the album’s rhythmic underpinnings, and although this foray into primitive, ritualistic bang-the-drum percussion is significantly more dangerous than his previous programming, its the imperfection in his passionate studio performances that imbue Continuidad with something remarkably human.

The first single surrounding the Continuidad album is Birds (Continuacio´n), a glorious extension of the album track that conjures imagery of shaman-led rainforest exploration and illustrates the artist’s affinity for Latin-American percussion. The flipside is an exclusive non-album cut La Venida Del Mar, a bonafide big room thumper that carries all the rave seasonings we’ve come to crave from Tobar.

What attracts us to Chilean-born artist Ricardo Tobar is the notion of intersection, and although fusion is nothing new, as a concept it will always pull our heartstrings. Applying influence is amateur, we see this over and over again as we endure trend-driven appropriation of cultures the world over, but the epiphany when an artist finds true synergy between heritage and influence is a pivotal moment that the inspired will seek, even though it may take the length of one’s career to behold. As pretentious as that may sound, it is precisely the hybrid born from that place of intersection that excites us at the ESP Institute, the “A plus B that equals 3”. We hear this in Ricardo’s music — the Latin American instinct in his drums and percussion, sometimes tightly aligned with body movements and other times hauntingly mis-aligned and chaotic, intersects with his rock influence of ethereal (micro) melodies that slowly layer and layer until we’re climbing a glorious (macro) wall of sound — but most importantly we hear where these different parts of his life come together to further create one unique voice. On both sides of his ESP Institute debut Liturgia, Tobar couples one pulsing dance-driven track with another atmospheric and immersive track, requiring we educate ourselves in the polarity of this language he’s building, one that will expand to tell a broader story later this year with his debut album. We welcome Ricardo Tobar, another forward-thinking artist, to the ESP Institute, and are proud to support any direction his compass points from here, as we believe he’ll never follow but will always lead.

ricardo tobar - RICARDO TOBAR - RED LIGHT (LAWRENCE REMIX)
Tracklist: (
A1) Angora (Midnight Operator Remix) (B1) Redlight (Lawrence Remix)
Info:
After the first Ricardo Tobar remix edition (featuring remixes by John Tejada and Fairmont) on Cocoon Recordings we are proud to present the next chapter with remixes by Lawrence and Midnight Operator (Mathew and Nathan Jonson). 2016 seems to continue as we started it: With high quality music by great artists presenting us amazing techno in an unique and tasty style.
Midnight Operator, the joint project of the two Jonson brothers, picked Tobars "Angora" for their remix and the result appears very fresh and housey. Their bassline programming adds a nice italo-disco vibe to their version of "Angora". Together with their strings and melody-parts the Midnight Operator remix is turning into the perfect soundtrack for the upcoming spring nights: We hear flowers, birds, butterflies and feel the warm air ... not to mention that our feet start moving and dancing. Dial mastermind Lawrence contributes the fourth remix to Tobars album: His version of "Red Light" explores the emotional side of techno and house. We dive into deep spaces, spheric melodies and an atmosphere close to the vibe of the great works of Kraftwerk - this is impressive! Lawrence "Red Light" version presents the musical side of techno to us - a timeless piece of music with a chill-out flavoured beat and synth programming.

2
ricardo tobar - RICARDO TOBAR - INVIERNO (JOHN TEJADA REMIX)
Tracklist: (A1) Angora (Fairmont Remix) (B1) Invierno (John Tejada Remix)
Info:
Welcome 2016 and welcome back everybody to the second Cocoon Recordings roll out. We wonder what this year will bring if the kick-off is already on such a high level?
Ricardo Tobar's first remix 12" comes with two stunning re-arrangements by Fairmont and Tech-House grandmaster John Tejada. The canadian minimal techno hero Fairmont remixed Tobars "Angora" and gave it such a strong Border Community vibe. Dark but at the same time pushing and hedonistic. Fairmont starts off with a subtle percussion-beat-acid-combination and turns his remix into a proper and mad electronic masterpiece the longer it runs. Epic!
Californian tech-house pioneer John Tejada is on remix-duty for "Invierno" and he blasts us away with the result. Deeper than deep and kick-ass house with a pushing detroit and KMS vibe. This one almost appears like a lost & found alltime techno and house classic and it will hit the Zeitgeist in Berlin, London, New York and Tokyo like no other release on Cocoon Recordings lately. This is ingenious clubfood for all the innercity hipsters and musiclovers and it simply makes us wanna dance! This! Is! Tech-House! Baby!

1. Pasaje 2. Brittle 3. Invierno 4. Angora 5. Inside Castle 6. There Is Pop 7. Blue Mint 8. Red Light 9. Crystal Sun 10. Strange Wave
Electronic music approximately 35 years after bands like Kraftwerk opened the magic box. A lot happened since then and it seems all is said, done and invented. However it is almost surprising that new things still pop up here and there when it comes to electronic music production. The reason for this can probably be found in the almost unlimited possibilities that electronics and computers offer to the artists and of course in the unwritten law that there are no boundaries that can't be crossed. So, even after all this time, it is great to see that the creative development keeps on going and going no matter if it is house, deep house, techno and most of it all: Listening electronics. "Synthetic electronic sounds, Industrial rhythms all around".
Let's focus on Ricardo Tobar: Born in Chile and now residing in France, Tobar picked the "creative border crossing" as the common thread for his album "Collection". Musical experimentation and crossing musical borders - Tobar refers here directly to the style and sound of the great new-wave-bands of the 80s and 90s. With the help and influence of their new electronic instruments (that often met classic rock guitars) the post-punk-electronic-movement turned almost everything upside down. No matter if the result was moody and mysterious or romantic and hedonistic, all sounded new and different back then and paved the musical path for a whole generation - the reverberations of that episode are noticeable until today.
Tobar plays with the musical approach of the post-punk-era, he mixes, merges and experiments fearless with styles and moods. He creates a wide range of "own styles" and even dives into abstract sound fields - listening electronic in best form! Ricardo Tobar breathes the air of his own musical universe and is not refering to the typical styles of this genre - you won't find any Detroit, Berlin or Sheffield reference here. Although produced in France, Tobar's album doesn't have anything of the sweet and lovely french listening touch. It also won't beam you into the north of England and the grey and cold Sheffield winter like so many other electronic albums try to do.
"Collection" contains full compositions, sound collages, experimental sounds and even proper beat based tunes. Tobar rather creates than produces and is presenting a bigger picture with his collection. Many electronic music artists are trying to do this however Tobar delivers a collection with an impressive range and it seems he did all this in an almost nonchalant way. He plays and combines his instruments and sounds at the same time very sensitive and harmonic but also brave and dissonant without risking to be inaudible at any point. He creates atmospheres by using electronic sounds and layers. Listening to the sound of "collection" almost appears like reading an acoustic book. This album is full of interesting sounds and ideas and is far from being boring or even too demanding.
Besides the mystic and experimental side "Collection" also contains energetic and trippy sounds. The expressive "Angora" is full of energy and captures the listeners imagination. In contrast to that "Crystal Sun" appears almost like a big after-hour anthem. With "There Is Pop" Tobar presents even a strong and ripped tune - banging and challenging. You see, there is place for everything here in "Collection". There is an introduction, the main part and an ending - as mentioned before: An album like a book, like an exciting book on top of that! "Collection" comes with musical chapters rich in variety and with quite some surprises.
Looking back at 35 years of electronic music it isn't easy to claim that we never heard something like "Collection" before, however we hardly can think of anybody else who compiled an album with such an amount of taste and entertainment like Ricardo Tobar did it here. This is for sure not just another musical assembly-line-product and we salute Tobar for the result that cannot be categorized the easy way. Tobar worked hard for this album and this is noticeable from start to end. He used his machines, synths and computers in full effect and presents a "Collection" that exactly functions like it is. Not a single tune on this album can be left out. This album is Ricardo Tobars musical portrayal and with holding so much energy, it will shine on for a very long time.

It has been voted one of the 100 best records by highly influential UK magazine The Wire. A pioneer in experimental electronic music, Becker continued to break new ground in electronic media.‘Monotonprodukt 07’ has been reissued on vinyl by desire (and is still available as a double picture-discs limited to 500 copies. It’s the first time ever that tracks from the album are remixed and desire is proud to had such great artists/producers as US Prositutes, Svengalighost with fellow partner and L.I.E.S. boss and Hospital Productions artist Ron Morelli. The last remix is the work of great Mancunian duo Rainer Veil (Modern Love). An incredible remix package that do justice to this classic album ! Mastered by Matt Colton at Alchemy.

monoton - Scanner Overview
Monoton ‘Monotonprodukt 02’, also known as MP02, is the debut album of Austrian electronic maverick Konrad Becker. Out in 1980 it was a precursor of the minimal techno dub sound that was starting to be popular more than 15 years after. The album has been reissued by desire a couple of years ago and a new pressing is in the work. Anyway it’s time to launch a remix EP with new (and not so new) producers giving crédit to the work of the Austrian master. On the A side we find 3 new artists paying their dues : Sergie Rezza, whose debut album out on desire was critically acclaimed, Abdulla Rashim (Abdulla Rashim Records / Northern Electronics / Semantica) and also Opal Tapes’ boss Stephen Bishop own Basic House. The B-side is a great megamix of the album tracks by the one and only ambient/electronica veteran Scanner !

Going further into techno territory, Orphan Swords come back with a three tracks EP called "License To Desire" on Paris-Based Desire Records. Following the "Risk In The New Age" EP (2014), this new hypnotic release is probably their most powerful so far, concentrating EBM, minimal techno gristle and industrial electronics. This EP clearly relates to previous efforts such as "Caim" that has been described by XLR8R as "The grinding sounds and whirling blasts of white noise position the track directly in the realm of acts like Sandwell District and Richie Hawtin's digressive and hypnotizing Plastikman moniker." Make sure to check out the massive epic of 'Asmoday' and the textural sophistication of 'Hooker'. ORPHAN SWORDS is a Brussels-based duo previously described as "Oppressive industrial techno/drone pressure", “industrial-slanted techno” or “new school industrial” by Boomkat, XLR8R and The Quietus, They have played supports for Vatican Shadow, The Body, Black Rain, Kyoka etc.and more. After --- releases on Idiosyncratics, an EP called "Risk in a New Age" was released on Desire Records in june 2014, it features a collaboration with NYC cult band Ike Yard. "Stunners, the lot of them!" said JUNO about that release. Following this, upon request of Desire, they made an official rework of Ike Yard's NCR/Cherrish8.

This music encompasses two worlds, lives in between territories - between techno and noise, the far end of a darkened club and a dreaming mind’s afterthoughts. Very earthly and deeply rooted, it sometimes appears fragmented, full of sonic embroideries, full of sonic dirt, even. Like two universes colliding, imploding one on the other, giving birth to a new space, without boundaries or restraints. Something to dance to, on a spaceship. Sergie Rezza is the musical meeting of Romain Poncet and DJ Deep. In DJ Deep’s words there has been a “magical click” between him and Romain, when (after releasing the “Opening Moment EP” on Deeply Rooted) they both decided to meet in Romain’s studio. “I think there is something that matches between Romain’s unique energy, enthusiasm and ability to focus and develop his craft of making music and the passion I have for music in it’s various forms and concepts. What we do together is very different from the Romain Poncet records or from what I would personally produce by myself. In the process of working together we experimented on sound quite a lot and playing with atmospheres and beats. It feels like we found our own path in using sounds in a very specific way and playing with textures and feelings”.

The release was a follow up of sorts to my remix of Ricardo Tobar’s « If I love you ». Having spoke to Jerome Mestre of Desire a few times since the remix, he and I decided that it would be great to follow it up with a dance focused release.
