More Bounce To The Ounce EP - DJ W!LD (inc. Arapu Remix) More

The much-celebrated Parisian DJ W!LD has been enjoying a fine time of it lately. Gig-wise, he threw it down recently at SXM alongside the likes of Ricardo Villalobos and Zip, while he even stopped by in Mixmag NYC LAB back in February also. From a release perspective, the ever-consistent producer has put out acclaimed works on the likes of Snork Enterprises, as well as fledgling French label, Emperical Magnetism for whom he returns to here with exactly the sort of panache we've come to expect.
The club-ready three tracker, entitled "Kindergarten (Part 2)", sees W!LD reprise the kindergarten theme of 2018, which came into effect on his debut for the French label. Part 2 kicks off with "Indigo Girl", a tough, tech-tinged workout that sees W!LD delve into his ever-expanding arsenal of killer samples. A track that's sure to light up any dancefloor, it's full of the sort of charm that the producer has built a career on over the years.
The other track on the A-side is "Jumatate de Viata". Spread over the course of almost 8 minutes, this adventurous sounding cut is full of drama and suspense, with its groove-heavy approach again indicative of the producer's knack for churning out blissful, peak-time suitable bombs. The B-side is comprised solely of one track, "Left Hander", but it's also one that's worth its weight in gold. A track that's very clearly indebted to W!LD's great appreciation for all things hip-hop, it's the sound of a producer taking a chance and being greatly rewarded for doing so.

Empirical Magnetism (EM) is glad to welcome Paris-based DJ and producer DJ W!LD on the occasion of the 3rd release of the label. With Kindergarten (Part 1), DJ W!LD shows his hand: Part 1 is only the beginning.
This first EP unveils three dancefloor-driven tracks, all in what W!LD's does best: a straightforward and uncompromising tech-house music - as can be heard on the A-side in "Genius" (A1) and "Control Us" (A2) - brought to life with soulful voice samplings.
On the B-side, "La Petite Porte" (B) reveals stronger and more commanding beats becoming milder around the end of the track thanks to W!LD's taste for harmonious samples.

The relentless work ethic of DJ W!LD shows no sign of slowing down with another amazing EP, this time through his own imprint The W Label, that unleashes four new tracks plus a dubbed out remix. In contrast to his recent output on other labels the five tracks sit firmly in the ‘DJ Tools’ category with stripped back arrangements, raw-to-the-bone underground house grooves and drums showcasing all that is good about the Parisian’s highly in-demand DJ sets. Head-nodding tribal infused percussion is the main theme with tracks ‘Blind’ and ‘Miami Bitch’ setting the scene with a brass breakdown in the latter that is sure to send shivers down spines. ‘Narco’ switches things up with its core element focused around a shoulder shaking bass organ straight out of the 90’s. ‘On Board’ gets and original and re-worked Dub outing with hypnotic congas and a vocal that loops inside the mind.

DJ W!LD is back, this time on Crosstown offshoot Rebellion with a stomping summer anthem featuring Cari Golden on vocals ‘Shape U’. The original fuses the solid punch of a club weapon with the laidback feel of poolside disco, while the Fur Coat Remake gives the track an entirely different sheen all chugging disco bass-line, dark synths and pitched down vocals. An aptly named WILDER remix and dub from the producer ties up an unmissable EP. The prolific DJ W!LD is one of France’s longest serving underground house heroes. As part of the Cocoon family and as a Circo Loco resident, DJ W!LD under various aliases has released on labels such as OFF Recordings, Robsoul, and his own imprints Catwash Records and W including debut album ‘Palace’ in 2011. Second album ‘D!RTY’ landed on Cabin Fever last year. Originally from Dijon, W!LD’s passion for graffiti, street culture, disco, funk and hip hop led him into DJing, taking his name from cult 1983 film Wild Style. Relocating to Paris in 1996, DJ W!LD was instrumental in the French house scene, pouring his energies into the city’s underground club community and later becoming a globally successful artist and fixture at the best international clubs and festivals. Fur Coat have been blazing a trail since their mighty debut album in 2012 on Crosstown Rebels ‘Mind Over Matter’ also featuring Cari Golden on vocals on the massive hit ‘You And I’. The fast-rising Venezuelan duo have been remixed by TEED and have a single forthcoming on Crosstown.

Hot on the heels of his ‘ weet & picy EP’ on The W Label, DJ W!LD now unleashes Rainbow in my pocket EP. The four tracks see W!LD at his most underground and dirty; it’s 3am music for when the freaks come out. Lead cut ‘Rainbow In My Pocket’ has a title which belies the deep, dark and thumping nature of the track, perfectly at home on the darkest, sweatiest dancefloors. ‘Beats 2’ is a DJ’s dream tool - scattered percussion and a “jack me till I start to scream” vocal loop relentlessly. W!LD’s unique style of strippedto- the-bone crunching beats, probing basslines and almost impossibly long, captivating breakdowns have seen him grace labels including Cabin Fever/Rekids (who released his album ‘D!RTY’), One Records, Act Natural, Snork Enterprises, Robsoul and Catwash amongst many others in the past 12 months. The ‘Sweet & Spicy EP’ continues in the same vein – all carefully road-tested by W!LD, the focus is on the dancefloor with influences from funk to acid all underpinned by those strong relentless grooves. A stalwart of the tech and deep house scene, DJ W!LD’s career path began in the clubs of Paris in 1996. Working with Chris Carrier from 2005 under the name of Catwash (which also spawned the label) he became well known in the French house and techno scene. By 2009 he was touring the world, represented by the legendary Cocoon agency and playing their worldwide events, as well as landing a residency he retains for Circo Loco at DC-10 in Ibiza and becoming a regular feature on their international tours. Following the recent dip into the theo parrish archives that was the twin cities, Phil Weeks' Robsoul imprint looks to another one of Detroit's adopted sons in the form of Rick Wade. Like that recent Parrish reissue, Weeks re-releases another three tracks from wade's bulging discography. The upbeat disco loops of "Players Theme" was originally released on French label Funky Chocolate in 2002 and still sound fresher than anything being plied by the soundcloud dwellers today, while "Can't You See" from 2003 provides a more soulful take on house music. On the flip, the tracky funk and cascading string melodies of "I Feel Good" originally graced Wade's own Harmonie Park imprint in 1998, but sound no less vital today. Essential.... More

Having brought us his Ladies Night EP back in March alongside partner in crime Bas Roos; Dutchman Chris Stussy returns to the fold. This time flying solo on his Nightdriver EP. Steering away from the sample-stacked party peakers of his previous outing, Stussy delivers a more subtle and refined four track selection that opens with the shuffle and smooth chords of 'Nightdriver'. The warm bass and glistening keys of 'Crate Diggin'' takes up the beat baton, before 'One Way' ups the ante with its insistent and irresistible groove. Finally Chris caps this impressive outing with the disco infused, smooth flow of 'Lonely'.

Its been almost a year since our Robsoul brother Chris Carrier unveiled new music on the label. After recent remix and release forays on Hot Creations, Cuttin’ Headz and his own Adult Only imprint, Mr Consistent is back with a trio of hot new jams. With its familiar screams and bumping bassline, title track ‘Plastic Dance’ sets the trend as its tickled ivories and snatched snares create a dancefloor commotion. ‘Hoverbike,' with its future facing title, actually presents crisp classic sounds wrapped in a haze of floating filters. A track that will draw even the most reluctant groovers to the dancefloor. For those still holding out, Chris also drops a bass-heavy Dub version to give them an extra nudge.

Summer's round the corner and Javi Bora & IAAM are back on Robsoul with a sizzling new soundtrack for the weeks ahead. Somewhat of a label regular, Javi makes his fourth Robsoul return, backing up EP’s in 2012, ’13 & ’14. He teams up with fellow Spaniard and regular sparring partner IAAM, as they follow up recent releases on Music For Freaks and Bauhaus with ’Tonight,' a four track party-starter of an EP. The drum-laden ‘Perklap-Style’ opens the EP and its raw energy is quickly followed by the filtered disco flavour of ’Tonight’. On the flip the funky feels continue with ‘I Just Can Feel’ as its classic sample calls for some choreographed roof raising. Finally, closing up is ‘Rolling Up,' a bass-heavy beat tool that brings a perfect end to Tonight. More

D’Julz’s ‘Ze Box’ Ep, his 2014 debut for Robsoul, remains one the labels most popular to date. Now, as the Frenchman and renowned House luminary embarks on what is already a landmark year personally; he returns to the label to follow up last years Edits outing with a sultry new selection of tracks on the ‘Foxxy’ Ep. 2017 signals the twentieth anniversary of D’Julz’s seminal Bass Culture club night at Rex Club in Paris. A celebration of a party born from frustration with his City’s scene, it went on to become one of the longest standing and most respected nights of a generation. Sharing the booth with just one invited artist each night, each playing extended sets, gave the Parisian a perfect outlet for perfecting his craft. Skills honed at those Bass Culture nights not only helped craft an enviable DJ style, but also influenced his talent in both a&r’ing for his Bass Culture record label and the production of his own music. The Foxxy Ep finds D’Julz in a playful mood. ‘Ze Fox’ opens up with its stretched filters, funky guitar lick and merry vocal. The jittery hats of ‘Big Kid’ follows with its disco loops and sunshine vibe delivering smiles for miles, making you, yeah, feel like a big kid. ’Next’ is the cute little heartbreaker that brings this Foxxy Ep to a close. Its rough, juddering and yet grooving bassline is matched with synth washes, piercing snares and bird calls to create a perfect finale to a perfect EP.
