Last year’s ‘The Age Of Compassion’ by Chicago underground house don Tevo Howard was one of the standout tracks for Buzzin’ Fly in 2011with widespread DJ and media support. It joined his burgeoning body of work on other acclaimed labels such as Rush Hour and his own Beautiful Granville. Now Tevo returns with his follow-up for Buzzin’ Fly. If ‘The Age Of Compassion’ was a simple and elegant dancefloor bump wrapped in warm analogue melancholia, then the ‘Monument EP’ is its nemesis - a stark future-retro reinterpretation of the origins of house music build from the bare components of machines: raw drums, sub bass, sine waves, square waves and oscillators. And yet there is still a burnished beauty to this EP. All three tracks seems to find echoes of each other in their arrangements and brittle harmony. Machine music for the modern age edged with passion and feeling, and another fresh step for its producer.

KiNK & Neville Watson return with their fourth release to date. 'A Saturday In September' is their first vocal track, featuring Kim Ann Foxman (of Hercules And Love Affair). KiNK & Neville Watson keep delivering dance floor candy. Their future-retro Chicago house output made quite an impact on the scene over the past few years. With 'A Saturday In November' they keep their signature retro sound, but shift their tribute focus slightly on late 80's New York and it's 'freestyle' days. On vocal duties is Kim Ann Foxman of Hercules and Love Affair fame. Together they have created a sexy and classy groove, which brings back fond memories of the golden days of NY house. After the emotive release of Rick Howard, its time for HHYR to step it up a notch again with fellow Chicagoian Ricardo Miranda, who already gave us 'Black Acid' last year and also was featured on Rick Wilhite's 'Vibes' compilation. 'Floorwax' urges us to do the damn thing, assuming that he leaves us no choice but to slam dance to this hypnotic acid work out, which reminds us slighly of earlier DJ Funk material. 'Redline' further explores the boundaries of acid house originale. It starts out with just drums and a pulsating acid line, but halfway through a utopian string line eases in and shows us the way to the promised land. Keep your heads up and dance to the music.
