Magic Wire present the second release on the label from co-founder Lone. Following up the huge debut release 'Pineapple Crush' comes 'Emerald Fantasy Tracks'.
Lone's recent "Pineapple Crush / Angel Brain" was an overwhelming success, marking a fantastic debut for his label Magic Wire and a coming of age for the young producer. "Emerald Fantasy Tracks" is the follow up mini-album released late November and is set to be just as fulfilling. As with the first release on the label, this one is a limited edition. Don't get caught napping again!
The opening track 'Cloud 909' sets the scene - a massive slab of piano stab-lead Detroit inspired Techno, which picks up exactly where 'Pineapple Crush' left off and is set to cause the same ammount of damage to the club as the former. Where-as the last release focused mainly on the rawness of early hardcore tunes, 'Emerald...' possibly goes even further back in time. From the primitive 808 / Black Dog inspired house of 'Moon Beam Harp' to the typical Lone styled sun bleached euphoria on Risottowe4' and 'Petrcane Beach Track' - this is Lone fascination in the roots of dance music taken to it's extreme.
Covering all areas, this is the most diverse Lone record to date. Set to blow up at the end of the year, expect 'Emerald Fantasy Tracks' to be cained by dj's across the board...

Lone - Triton
Lone returns to Greco-Roman with a two track 12” of some of his finest work to date. A’-side Waterfall Reverse’ is an ecstatic hardcore song that ascends into a utopian dream. Resident Advisor called it "A fresh reinterpretation of Lone's dayglo breakbeat hardcore.....one of Cutler’s best moments" AA-side Triton serves as a companion piece and keeps things leaner and focused on a 4/4 club sound. Both tracks are peak Lone; mind bendingly, breathtaking machine funk!

Lone - Echo Paths (Ebb and Flow)
Following widespread acclaim for his recent LP ‘Always Inside your Head’, on March 4th / April 8th Matt Cutler AKA Lone releases four re-works of tracks from the album, entitled ‘Natural Aerials’. On ‘Natural Aerials (Mouth of God Part Two)’, Lone utilises a similar sound palette as album track ‘Mouth Of God’, but rebuilds it into a brand new banger. Energetic, deep, trancey and driven by jungle-schooled breakbeats, with bassbin shuddering low-end, he delves deeper into the vortex. Whereas the album was made predominantly using software, Cutler has since been buying hardware – and this marks the first track made on these newly acquired synths. Based around a version from Lone’s recent sold-out live show at London’s Village Underground, on ‘Inlove2 (One Thirty Mix)’ he ups the original’s BPM count, with sights set firmly on the dancefloor. Taking cues from the ‘Ambivert Tools’ series, this is a high-grade, proggy, main room acid rush. On ‘Visited By Astronauts (SHERELLE Had A Groove Remix)’, the fast-rising star takes an ambient interlude from the album, and gives it what she calls “a space age, footwork jungle twist”. Her first released remix, Sherelle continues an impeccable purple patch, with a re-rub that’s both airy and light, but also heavily percussive, full of propulsive forward motion. She states, "it’s a pleasure and honour to remix for Lone, as being a long time fan, it's a beautiful thing to be able to collaborate. I really wanted my first remix to be special and also for someone who I hugely admire, so Matt asking me to be involved in this process wastruly magical!” ‘Echo Paths Ebb And Flow’ takes a downtempo album highlight, strips it back to just the synths, then unfurls them into a blissful ambient work that’s melodic, warm and fuzzy, swaddling the listener in candy floss clouds.

On 22nd October, the Nottingham-raised and highly-praised musician/DJ/producer Matt Cutler, AKA Lone, presents his 8th album – and first in 5 years – ‘Always Inside Your Head’. It marks two major changes, with both a new label and new approach – featuring vocalists for the first time. This deeply textural and ethereal artwork is situated high above the clouds, amidst the heavens, occupying a stratospheric state where swathes of synthesized vapour and azure rays sound like a literal breath of fresh air. A varied selection of music influenced the record, but two main influences were Cocteau Twins and My Bloody Valentine. “I wanted to approach a range of different styles, but attack them from their angle in a way, so for example on 'Inlove2' I tried to imagine what a Balearic / acid house tune might sound like if it were produced by Kevin Shields”, comments Lone. Another key example of Cutler’s strange but successful combination of elements is the halcyon bliss of ‘Echo Paths’, where his trademark fat drums and love for hip hop meet double-time pan pipes, dub effects and dream pop, mixed into a wonderfully lysergic concoction. In addition to the above, the LP exists somewhere between trip hop on Mo' Wax, 90s Warp, intelligent drum & bass and ambient house. There are heavier forays too, like ‘Mouth Of God’, where darker clouds emerge, but are pierced like acid lightning with fierce, tearing tech-step bass. Although still firmly rooted in club culture – here Lone shows a definite leaning towards a song-based sound, with several tracks edging towards the same crossover space as the nineties hits which also inspired him – particularly William Orbit’s production on Madonna's 'Frozen', and Olive's 'You're Not Alone'. This is especially evident on the bright, spacious brilliance of 'Hidden By Horizons', where vocals and synths swirl around one another, with crisp breakbeats and reggae rolls pushing purposefully through the ether. Despite initially seeming almost entirely sunny of disposition, upon deeper immersion there’s lot more beneath the album’s surface, both in its deep pools of immiscible layered elements, and also thematically. When recording Cutler kept in mind a loose narrative based on birth, death, and our existence in-between. He then extended this idea to reach what may happen after death, which is reflected in the sequencing: By penultimate track ‘Undaunted’ the life reflected in this longplayer has come to an end, which is then followed by 'Coming In To Being And Passing Away' – an afterlife epilogue, which evokes a transition from this world to the next.

A1 - Saturday Night (DJ-Kicks)
B1 - Arc
B2 - Alpha Wheel 4 (Ambient Mix)
Following on from his intimate entry into the DJ-kicks mix series, Lone is putting out a vinyl only EP of all the unreleased tracks from it.
The horizontal mix tapped into all of Lone's influences, from hip-hop to house, IDM to techno. It also showcased some producers signed to his own Magic Wire label, and of course the back bone was built from some of the Nottingham man's freshest new productions. They come after celebrated releases on Werk Discs, R&S and Dekmantel, and include dance floor aligned EPs and more rounded full lengths designed for close listening. Here he sits in between the two across three thrilling cuts.
Opener 'Saturday Night' is a breezy bit of deep house with crisp boom-baps and swirling pads that lend it a dreamy, ethereal feel. Spoken word snippets are stitched into the groove and the whole thing is as frictionless and feel good as house comes.
Next up, 'Arc' is a little more direct, with scattered snares flapping over dry wooden kicks. It's a punchy bit of house latest DJ-kicks mix star Kerri Chandler would be proud, and comes overlaid with spring time flutes and luscious pads as a classically inclined bassline powers things along.
Last but not least is 'Alpha Wheel 4' (Ambient Mix), a kaleidoscopic passage of suspensory sound scuffed up glassy surfaces trapping you in rays of refracted light from start to finish.
All three tracks exhibit Lone's authentic, lived in and lo-fi aesthetic, and as a result slip perfectly into his ever more essential discography.

Following Lone AKA Matt Cutler’s stunning sixth album ‘Levitate’s hallucinogenic joyride through breakbeats, he returns to R&S with ‘Ambivert Tools’ the first in a series of EPs for the floor returning to hypnotic 4/4 excursions. Inspired in no small part by the rich seam of house that he’s been excavating with his fine Magicwire imprint, a refreshed Cutler delivers an EP stacked with sure-fire bullets, crafted for his intoxicating DJ sets.
First up is ‘Crush Mood’ - crunching drums, lush resampled chords and dulcet female vox combine into a heady, peak-time rush. ‘Chroma' comes off like a lost 90s anthem, with its shimmering vibes, airy chords and bumpy rhythm track. B-side closer ‘From A Past Life’ could well be the strongest track on the EP - hazy Emulator ii chords, spiral arpeggios, gooey bass and woozy african percussion that finds Lone digging deeper into some of his more esoteric House music influences. 'Ambivert Tools' finds Cutler a true master, at the top of his game - taking all he’s learned over his many years of beat exploration and condensing it down into rugged house stacked full of nagging melody / harmony that elegantly pays tribute to bygone years whilst simultaneously feeling fresh and vital to 21st century dance floors. Lone AKA Matt Cutler presents his 6th album 'Levitate' - which marks a point of departure from the inviting warmth of 'Reality Testing's blend of hip hop and house - the listener is taken on a rapid joy ride through breakbeats that at times will leave them gasping. Following previous album 'Reality Testing' (and it's all conquering single 'Airglow Fires'), Cutler was left at somewhat of a musical impasse - a 6 month dry period with no new inspiration that was showing no signs of abating. The 'epiphany' moment came in New York. Bed ridden and feverish for days Cutler started to hallucinate "It was prett y terrifying - I'd try to go to sleep and I'd be hearing mad rave tunes form in my head. When i recovered i was left with all these ideas for fast, feverish tunes. Following that we went to LA and hung out with friends, driving round all day in the baking sun playing jungle and hardcore edits - all the best bits from rare jungle tunes spliced together. There was something that really seemed to fit hearing these energetic tracks whilst speeding around LA under perfect blue skies, that was amazingly similar to music I'd been dreaming up whilst in New York. I couldn't wait to get home and start putting this together - I had a new theme." The result is an incredible 9 track LP, a breakneck psychedelic journey through hardcore, jungle, ambient, clocks in at a fat-free 34 minutes.

Airglow Fires' is the first new Lone material to emerge since his masterful 'Galaxy Garden' album, his most complete body of work to date.
Departing from the themes of the rave/hardcore revival and cinematic interstellar travel, 'Airglow Fires' sees him exploring a more considered and intimate sound alongside a rediscovered love of classic hip-hop, as he explains "I love hip hop and house music when it's at it's rawest - to me 'Airglow Fires' has that kind of 90's basement vibe to it, where the lines between the two genres are kind blurred". On the flip 'Begin To Begin' explores similar territory to 'Airglow Fires' but wears its charms in a more subdued, but no less infectious manner - a repeating hypnotic chord stab, draped with burbling synth melodies and yet more tough drums combine for a sumptuous and mesmeric listen - as the song says "am I dreaming? am I awake" - with music like this to soundtrack your dreams, who would want to wake up? The colors are stunning. In a single view, I see looking out at the edge of the earth, all the colors of the prism. Red at the horizon, blends to orange and yellow, followed by a thin white line, then light blue, gradually turning to dark blue, then black as the vastness of space engulfs the surroundings. As I looked upon our home rock, I saw many natural features. I witnessed a large river meandering slowly along for miles, passing from one country to another without stopping or hesitation. I also saw huge forests, extending along & across several borders as if these divides didn’t exist. I watched the extent of one ocean touch the shores of separate continents; then suddenly, a profound thought came over me as I looked down on all this....

Passive priorities find you in the evening, late night and morning, in every moment of the day as the earth takes it course around the sun. Through such a faze, in the summer of '15, a collection of four tunes were jammed in homage to such moments with inspiration taken from the depths of adult contemporary and the moods and 'tudes of BeaubienOuest. These four tunes, delivered today as Priorities by Project Pablo soundtrack our spring days and follow a trip through the day-to-day while discovering balance in the mundane. Off the back of a critically acclaimed album early last year “I Want To Believe”, and crowned with 1080p’s inaugural vinyl release (album sampler) Project Pablo joins the Magicwire crew with his first solo material in over a year. Having spent the last few years on hiatus Magicwire is back with their sophomore release of their second life inspired by their love of VHS skate tapes, sun drenched days and colorful late nights.

The debut release from up-and-coming artist “Kommune1” on Lone’s Magic Wire label welcomes the merger of Warehouse-Techno vibes with the accessibility of House. These compositions take shape in both the tracks “MOTUS” and “Shadowkick”, each displaying the loyalist replications of everything that makes a head-nodding, foot-stomping, wall-shaking track. The A-side track “MOTUS” displays the ethics of both Berghain thumping4/4 rhythms, complete with big builds, subtle dynamic changes and a drop that would never cease to throw any listener into a frenzy of inexplicable groove and motion. A nod to the early days of Detroit Techno and Chicago House is also remnant in the track, with its heavy bass-loops, and restrained vocal phrases. After receiving support from Blawan, Ben UFO, NT89, Pariah, Dauwd, Happa et al, the track has been intensifying the dancefloor spaces of the last few months, receiving praise both in internet circles and DJ’s top 10 lists. An assured must have in any DJ’s vinyl bag for the remainder of 2012 and the coming year. B-side “Shadowkick” follows in a similar stylistic notion as the previous track. With the main aim being the destruction of the dancefloor still, “Shadowkick” is another big Techno-House track, emphasising on the power of the bassline and a hard rhythm. Subtle dub-like-chords, crisp percussion, and dynamic alterations all combine to act as a perfect DJ tool. The breakdown section of the track is enough to see a floor of “Hands in the air” before all hell seemingly breaks loose when the rhythms punches back into the main emphasis of the track.

Neon Jung, - Deliruim Tremens
Magic Wire label head Lone picks another smasher, aptly titled Delirium Tremens, from the elusive Neon Jung with a suitably precise re-edit from Nathan Fake on the b.side, fresh after his last remix for Radiohead Delirium Tremens takes on flavours of garage, soul and psychedelia and glues it all together with an armour plated, mutant electro backbone designed to make the dancefloor lose it for 4 minutes but still keeps the soul firmly intact. It’s another demonstration of Neon Jung’s ability to take influences from many genres and join the dots to create something fresh, but with all the right reference points to make this accessible to everyone from your backpacking beat head to the hardcore club frequenters. The bass in the first drop of this track is just berserk – there’s no other word for it. The B side sees Nathan Fake up the tempo but draw it out, making this perfect for the more patient crowd. It has Nathans signature beat all over it – it rotates, swings and soars gloriously until it finally ends in a warm afterglow, complementing the original perfectly in its ‘grower not a shower’ approach.

Magic Wire present the second release on the label from co-founder Lone. Following up the huge debut release 'Pineapple Crush' comes 'Emerald Fantasy Tracks' - an 8 track mini album spread across two 12's, housed in a full colour gatefold sleeve.
