M A N I K, - Makemake
Over the past twelve months, New York based M A N I K has been residing at the top of many peoples 'one to watch' lists off the back of his 'Park To The Slop' EP on Josh Wink's Ovum Recordings (which also led to releases on Four:Twenty and Fresh Meat.). The 24 year old is rapidly building a reputation with his work and it gives us immense pleasure to welcome him to Komplex De Deep. Both the title track and flip 'Space & Truth' take us on elegant and sensual, oldskool journeys. Sweeping strings, rasping keys and most importantly lashings of groove, make this a release to revel in. From a new and rising talent, we turn to a very much established and legendary producer for our remixes. Alain Ho has unlike many, been there from the very beginnings. A DJ since the age of 13, he was instrumental in the creation and success of the French House scene. From his early days in Hip-Hop, to the launch of the famous Yellow Productions label and through his very own productions under his DJ Yellow guise, Alain has always been at the forefront of electronic music.

MANIK returns to FRESH MEAT with an EP written with us in mind. After successfully completing his second full-length for OVUM, the NYC native has created music inspired by Chicago's gritty roots. The 4 tracks speak to the raw, dark, basement vibe that so many of us grew up with. 200 copies on red vinyl only- hand numbered and stamped.

manik - la dub
Tracklist:
A1. Recourse feat. Cari Golden B1. VHS B2. Los Angeles Dub
Info:
Fall into a dream state, leave your body, here we go...
Fresh from launching his 909 Til Infinity with Option 4 and storming BPM so hard he was identified by Pulse Radio as one of the key breakthrough acts of the Mexican festival, MANIK returns to Ovum with more visceral, physical slabs of straight-up tech funk.
'Recourse' is special. Teaming up with LA word-painter Cari Golden, his fluctuating, body-popping groove is peppered with barbed purring poetry that's part existential, part party, all unique: Cari matching MANIK's every bobbing bass texture, MANIK matching Cari's every observation, everything about 'Recourse' is distinctive, exciting and full of fresh energy.
Momentum maintained throughout; things take an unexpected dubby twist as the 'VHS' shimmers and ripples with synth insistency. Rolling hi-hats, hip-snapping clap attacks and a timeless vocal shot build around each other, occasionally revealing a fully-juiced bassline swinging and rolling with total consistency. 'Los Angeles Dub' is straight up jack, no chaser: a grainy, analogue moment of total unabashed machine-melting funk. Don't be fooled by the title's locale; we could be in any party city at any period of time in the last 30 years and this will cause the same frenzied moves.
MANIK's been delivering the goods for several years, but even by his standards this is another level. Something tells us BPM isn't the only thing he'll be breaking through this year...

manik - complexity
Tracklist 12":
A1. Thirsty Crow B1. Weights & Measures B2. Complexity
Info:
MANIK's star has been rising for the past few years, and this latest release on Poker Flat Recordings suggests the young New Yorker has a lot up his sleeve for 2016. Having already dropped dance-floor bombs on the likes of Hot Creations and Ovum, and spun everywhere from Panorama Bar to Womb in Tokyo, the Weights and Measures EP solidifies his emerging reputation as fresh voice on the scene.
The release kicks off with 'Thirsty Crow' -
a tightly wound groove that breaks down the barriers between house and techno effortlessly. The track builds around an infectious synth melody, and the interplay between various percussive elements - all designed for maximum damage on the dance-floor.
'Weights & Measures' is a deeply acidic affair that finds space for some luscious pads to break the tension, while 'Complexity' riffs off a classic house vibe but throws in some deeply leftfield sounds and rhythms for the heads.

Info:
M A N I K returns to Ovum with In Walks Bourbon!
A long-standing veteran of Josh Wink's Ovum imprint, the 'In Walks Bourbon' EP marks MANIK's fifth offering to the label and maintains the high quality we've come to expect from an artist who is comfortably at the top of his game right now. The EP consists of a trio of raw, chunky, house-influenced cuts which show M A N I K diving back in to the underground sounds of his New York roots with a taste of Chicago. The A side track "Wink KD" lures the listener in with its catchy groove and hypnotic vocal sample. The breakdown sees the track take a turn as Chris introduces and infectious acid bassline, perhaps an ode to label owner Josh Wink. On the B side we find the title track 'In Walks Bourbon" Chris smooths things out here, coming with a more head bobbing groove. Don't let that fool you as the track builds and builds with a rolling bass coming in that takes the track into overdrive. The EP closes on the jacking 'House Cut 2, Chris keeps the energy up with catchy synth stabs and various vocal samples. The snappy percussion keeps the track driving leading to a frenetic build.. An perfect finish to an extremely versatile EP; there's undoubtedly something for everyone in this package.

A1) House Cut 1 B1) Nothing Better B2) Finch
M A N I K returns to Ovum with House Cut 1 EP. A long-standing veteran of Josh Wink's Ovum imprint, the 'House Cut 1' EP marks MANIK's fourth offering to the label and maintains the high quality we've come to expect from an artist who is comfortably at the top of his game right now. True to its name, the EP consists of a trio of raw, chunky, house-influenced cuts which vary in style and function. The title track itself lures the listener in with bubbling synths floating over a clipped 4x4 beat, before giving way to a hectic salvo of staccato clap rushes and ride cymbals. 'Nothing Better' rolls along with a propulsive, tech-house whomp, with shimmering chords building up to usher in what can only be described as a thunderous bassline. As the track progresses, hints of acid-flecked goodness converge with 808 cowbells and hi-hats to create a peak-time dancefloor monster. The EP closes on a more melodic tip with 'Finch', with a rumbling analogue bass cutting a swathe through hypnotic latticework of arpeggiated synths and orbiting claps. An atmospheric finish to an extremely versatile EP; there's undoubtedly something for everyone in this package.

M A N I K, - These Days
Returning to Culprit with his third EP of original material is one of the brightest American production talents, Chris Manik aka M A N I K with ‘Ten Times Ten’. For the third October running, M A N I K delivers an EP of assured musicality, profoundly original and accomplished.. Each of the four songs sets a mood and tone of its own, from the deep melodic nostalgia of ‘Breakfast Club’ to the subtle breakbeat of the electro-funk work-out that is ‘Heartbeat’ and the gritty strut of the synth squelch-driven ‘Wave Eclectic’ giving way to M A N I K’s ballsy but completely justified and immaculately pulled off dip into pure Urban Soul territory with ‘These Days’ that showcases the producer’s new favourite original weapon – his own voice. All unified by a shimmering quality of production fast becoming typical of Chris’ music, equal parts retro and forward-thinking, edgy, urbane yet retaining its disarming openness and, even, sweetness. M A N I K’s ‘Ten Times Ten’ shows a talented producer and maturing label in full flight, defining each other’s sensibilities, pushing one another in new and exciting directions while staying true to their credo. ‘Ten Times Ten’ makes M A N I K the LA- based label’s most frequent competitor and the one who will continue to define its sound.

Its strange to think that it was only 2010 that saw the first records from Christopher Manik, aka M A N I K. Since exploding onto the scene with his debut Ovum release he has gone on to develop and strengthen his own sounds & styles. Never pigeonholed, the young New Yorker has confidently and creatively placed his music on a variety of the hottest labels of today, whilst always managing to maintain his own unique identity.
Today he returns to Ovum with an ode to his beloved former studio, 'Im Nice Like That', and presents a trio of new cuts, two of which were the very last productions to come out of his musical bunker. "The title track "I Got Us" is sort of a love song trapped inside a sleazier beat," says Chris, as he also owns up to having provided the vocals on the track.
"Amber Knife" comes heavy with its FM bass and 303 action before "Weekend Is 4 Lovers" rounds out the ep. "That was actually the last ever track that i wrote in the studio. I wrote the lyrics and sang on this again too. Its a song about falling for a girl whilst on a weekend away..." A fitting final hurrah for the studio and yet another impressive release from both M A N I K and Ovum recordings.

Scoring the soundtrack of a new electronic frontier, the young New Yorker named artist to watch of 2011 by Mixmag and DJ Mag, M A N I K delivers a prototype debut album ‘Armies of The Night’ for Josh Wink’s Ovum Recordings. *As the trend for stateside dance music continues to take hold, NYC born and bred M A N I K propels it further forward with a sublimely original album. Stitched together by Ovum creator, Josh Wink, ‘Armies...’ is a continuous ebb of energy that continues to surprise as it gains momentum. *Inspired by his surroundings in New York City as well as the 1979 cult classic film, ‘The Warriors’ M A N I K portrays the raw urban grittiness of the city and mimics the picture’s rendering of the underground gang world. Track titles such as ‘We’re From Coney’, ‘City Kids’ and ‘Don’t Stop Don’t Run’ as well as frequent samples hint at this arcane theme. *Touching on a slow and seductive take on house music that fellow Americans Soul Clap, Nicolas Jaar and Wolf + Lamb have brought to the forefront of consciousness, but elevating it to new plains fusing jacking beats, acid funk basslines, and creative hip-hop sampling techniques, M A N I K carves his own niche sound through ‘Armies Of The Night’.* A diverse collection that ripples across generations, ‘Armies Of The Night’ reaches into the glamorous world of disco in ‘Nightfall’, taps into classic jacking house for ‘Ruckus 8OH8’, plays with urban flavours for ‘Haterville’ (made specifically for the Haters) and ‘Another Day’ and dives in to the eerie futuristic plains of techno in ‘Don’t Stop Don’t Run’, all the while maintaining an intoxicating nocturnal spirit.*Interspersed with playful interludes featuring M A N I K’s peers and influences, this musical voyage continually involves the listener in an interactive story of how it came to be. The result is an album that matures with each listen, apt for every situation and a true reflection of M A N I K’s pure and honest musical philosophy.

As we've revelled in the abstract jazzy tones of label chief Master-H on KDD ..... Its time to take things from the smokey cellar floor to sweaty warehouse spaces, as we welcome Aubrey back to Komplex De Deep. Allen Saei aka Aubrey has over 23 years hands on experience of the scene. His DJ career took him from his first residency in Portsmouth's 'Central Park', to playing London's biggest raves and parties in the 1990's, sharing the decks with the likes of Carl Cox, Groove Rider and Mr C. Launching his own Solid Groove Records in 1990, Aubrey's career went from strength to strength. Releases and remixes followed for labels including Sublime, The End, Ferox, Mosaic, Reel, Intec and Leftfield's label, Offshoot. His material was licensed by Derrick May, Terry Francis, Pete Tong and Carl Cox, and his track 'Early Riser' co-written with Max Brennan, featured on the very first Fabric 01 compilation, mixed by Craig Richards. 2010 saw him release 'Dark' on Belgian label Mowar, and he followed that with his Komplex De Deep debut, the 'High Pass Highway' EP . Today we are proud to be bringing you his first release of 2011, the "Harlequin Opal" Ep. A four track selection that sees Aubrey move seamlessly from the atmospheric synth-laden joy of the title track to sparse, metallic and acidy sounds of Octavius. On the flip "Power Of The Drums" is an expansive, cinematic and industrial tinged cut, whilst "Radiatus 40" spins us headily in into the ether with is waves of spacey synths. Perfect! Adam Carter

Born in Japan, and raised in Brazil, Ifume has always been exposed to a variety of musical influence. Whilst his musical aptitude was apparent at early age, learning piano and guitar, Ifume never really exhibited a desire to pursue a career in music. Upon graduating from high-school, Ifume, through his friends, discovered the local club scene, and it was here that his passion was ignited. Today, Ifume is set to join the new wave of young, exciting house producers. Whilst his sound is far from obvious, it does mirror his love for the New York, Detroit and Chicago scenes. He may well have been too young to experience at first hand, the early sounds coming out of those cities. But his love of the gritty, unpolished and brutally honest sounds of the 80's and early 90's, can be heard in his own intricate productions. Showcasing quite frighteningly mature production skills, Ifume presents four stunning deep house cuts. Exclusively analog, each one exudes that delectable warmth of sound throughout. This really is a debut release to savour ladies and gents. Listen, download and support Ifume and Komplex de Deep...

Master-H's Komplex De Deep may only be 10 releases old but, due to its consistent quality, and unrelenting mission of releasing unique pieces of music, unbound by genre, it has quite rightly built a strong following who eagerly await each and every release, to see just what the French label chief will bring us next. After wowing us with his very own 'Stabs Call' last month, H has turned to his favourite Irishman to usher in the end of the year. A regular on the label, Chymera has already lent his remix skills on KD004, and released the excellent 'The Rumours Of My Demise', back in December of last year. Today he brings us two of his very finest in stunningly beautiful, piano laden 'For The Lonely', and the superbly emotive, crowd-pleaser that is 'Ceril'. On the remix of 'For The Lonely', the Irish are in full force, as Fish Go Deep back their countryman with an excellent and thorough reworking. The EP is rounded out in style with a Master-H 'Detroit Vision' take on 'Ceril'.

Allen Saei aka Aubrey has over 22 years hands on experience of the scene. His DJ career took him from his first residency in Portsmouth's 'Central Park', to playing London's biggest raves and parties in the 90's. Launching his own Solid Groove Records in 1990, Aubrey's career went from strength to strength. Releases and remixes followed for labels including Sublime, The End, Ferox, Mosaic, Reel, Intec and Leftfield's label, Offshoot. His material was licensed by Derrick May, Terry Francis, Pete Tong and Carl Cox. Today he steps up with 'High Pass Highway' EP. A selection of sounds, all with that oldskool touch and feel.
